Tainted. Unclean. Hybrid. Not worthy to be the son of the Alpha of the Wolfsbane pack. I’ve heard it all my life. I’m contaminated by magic. Instead of gaining my wolf at age twelve, I gain magic. Blue flames cursed me to a life in the shadows. They all whisper about my dark origins. I’m part of a secret prophecy that I don’t find out about until my twenty-first birthday. Now, I’m being chased by my estranged mother, who seeks to siphon off my magic to take over the world. Then she appears. Allegra. My mate. Will she save me? Or will she betray me? I’m forbidden. The son of a wolf shifter and a high witch priestess. Which side will prevail?
James is the son of the Alpha of the Wolfsbane pack but hes also a hybrid and a loner with the pack too. I literally felt bad for him with how he was treated by everyone including his mother & father. Only to find out that he is part of secret that can help not only shifters, witches and warlocks a like. Which in turn brings Allegra (Allie) into his life. James & Allegra have a tentative relationship. They both have had a checkered background so it makes them unsure about trust and each other. Which in a way was kinda sweet in the way they were together. A good read which i liked reading and im looking forward to the rest of the series now
This was an interesting read. James is a hybrid shifter. Part warlock and part wolf he is not accepted by his pack. He meets his mate Allegra and his life gets turned upside down. Many secrets get revealed and he must band to6with his family to stop an evil threat.
I am on a kick where I like urban fantasy with witches and warlocks. I do love other ones, but this is a favorite. I dived in and was drawn into the story. James and Allegra are a sweet couple, and their romance is fast and tender. Add in the interesting characters like James’ evil mother, distant father, and warm aunt, you have an interesting paranormal romance with a little suspense, too, and I would be interested in reading more in this universe. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Forbidden Warlock is a paranormal romance novel by Jenn D. Young. This book focuses on a group of characters that a prophecy swirls around. James is the main focus of the story as he is both a shifter and a warlock. From a young age, he was rejected not just by his mother, but essentially his entire family. It’s only when he’s older that the truth is revealed and the pieces of his life begin to fall into place as they were meant to be. Forbidden Warlock is an interesting story with a rather quickly moving storyline. When I say “quickly moving” I mean that things move pretty fast. I like that we get background concerning James and the things that he has been through in his life. The author gives readers a glimpse into the his past where he was bullied by the pack for being late to shift, and then the rejection by his mother. I struggled briefly to fully understand the rejection by his father, but as the story comes together it all makes sense. I appreciate that there isn’t the usual heavy-handed animosity between James and his father concerning how things were between them. There isn’t insta-forgiveness, but things are on the right path between them regardless. This book has a lot of interesting moments and the story is very easy to read and follow along. My only dislike about this story is how quickly things move. I would have liked it if things were a bit more drawn out and the storyline allowed to develop and grow at its own pace. It just feels like things are rushed since this book is a stand-alone. I just think that it would have fared better if it was a series. I’m sure that there will be another book focusing on Edward, James’ father, and Oliver, James’ brother, so I will keep an eye out for those books because it would be nice to know how things work out for them. I’m rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off half a star because as I said I felt that things were a bit rushed with this book. Since this is also a fated mates novel, things move quickly, but with Allegra reacting “negatively” in certain moments (stiffening more than a couple of times) it seems that things should have been allowed to take a slower pace to give the characters time to acclimate to each other. It’d be different if a mating bond was necessary for them to succeed, but since it wasn’t I’d have liked more. If you enjoy books by this author then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this book as well.
James is an outcast in his pack, though he's the Alpha's son he has never been accepted because he's different. His mother abandoned him and his father can't even look at him, it is left up to James to fend for himself and nurture both his warlock side as well as his shifter side. Suddenly, things take a serious turn when his aunt shows up and he learns that he is a major player in a world-changing prophecy.
Allegra is a very powerful witch, and heir apparent to her coven. She is put through her paces and works harder than ever to prove that she is worthy- though her mentor makes her feel anything but. In a chance encounter, she meets James and instantly she knows all is not what it seems and she has never been told the whole truth. These two come together and work towards one common goal to overthrow a vicious ruler and forge a new future together.
I was very excited to read a new author and this book had such a fantastic premise that I was instantly hooked. The writing is very smooth and easy to read. The story did put a lot of foundation work in for future books-- we get a bit of a backstory recap to get us all on the same page really quick and easy. There weren't any unnecessary plot holes, I mean it is the first in a series so there are a few left for the next book but that's to be expected. Everything does happen quite quickly so you aren't left stagnant at any point. The twists and turns are excellently executed and there are some really amazing characters at the heart of this book. There is plenty of wit and banter in here to take off the doom and gloom feel- as well as some shocking revelations!
This is a great book for fans of shifters as well as magic. The characters are really strong and promising, you can see how adaptable they are yet firm in their beliefs which will make for a great future in the series. I really look forward to book 2!
"I would be more powerful than they could even imagine. A hybrid freak I may be, but I had the blood of the Alpha running through my veins."
James was an outcast and a late bloomer in his pack. He not only did he have magic powers, but was also a wolf shifter. Out of the blue, his maternal aunt came to him with a Prophacy.
Allegra, a witch and successor to her evil stepmother, was the literally the Cinderella of this story. She wanted nothing with her stepmother's any evil doings.
Both Allegra and James and a few other players must come together to defeat this evil.
This was sooo good. Also had very likable characters. You have Shifters, witches, a different type of rejected mates, fated mates, fantastic world building. This was an exciting and easy read. My only issue was that it was a really, really quick read. This is a standalone with an HEA. I really hope to see more of this world in the future.
I received an ARC and voluntarily gave my honest opinion and review
Well I’m hooked! From the very start this grabbed me and I did not want it to end. The world building is incredible and Its a world filled with witches, warlocks and wolves. James our male mc is an outcast from his pack and even his own mother and faces a world full of betrayal, abuse and pain, then he meets his mate Allegra, will she be his downfall or his salvation? It’s an addictive story with intriguing characters so if urban fantasy is your jam then you will love this!
This was such a great book, with fab character development and an intense plot set in a well detailed world. James and Allegra were a fab couple and I enjoyed watching their romance unfold. Really, this was a page turner that caught my attention right from page one.
I really enjoyed this book. It was super awesome. It was a great start to an awesome series. It was packed with tons of action. There was a lot of great world building and an awesome heroine. I highly recommend this series. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
Book one follows the adventure of James and Allie and what happened in their pasts to lead to them finding each other. This book felt like a filler for future books as we learned about evil and all of the side characters. Overall I quick read with a cute leading couple! I’ll be picking up the second book.
I loved this book. So much so that I may have stayed up way past my bedtime to finish reading it last night. This is an interesting wolf series in that you don't come across many hybrids. If you like fated mates, this has that too. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Wow what a read hybrid twins who didn't know about each other horrible mother trying to ruin lives total rollercoaster of a read james is a true inspiration after everything he as been through and allie is my kind of girl love there realionship can't wait to read more of there story
James is a hybrid half wolf half warlock. He has grown up in a Wolfpack with his father the Alpha. He is different and has been treated as an outcast most of his life. That is until his 21st birthday when everything changes. He finds out that his past is much more complicated than he thought. He also learns more about his mother who abandoned him and meets Allegra a strong female witch that is somehow connected to him. So many mysteries are solved in this book! Definitely kept my interest!
Very engaging story! I loved the character development and world creation. James and Allegra were a sweet couple, I enjoyed seeing how they arrived at their happiness. One of my favorite parts was the first time they met, definitely an interesting meet-cute. Another thing I enjoyed was second chances for romantic and family relationships. Everything was wrapped up in this book, but I would love to see more of these characters. I highly recommend this book, you will not want to put it down. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Such an amazing story..it had so many twists and turns i was constantly on the edge of my seat. So many things i didnt see coming. The story was amazing and progressed so well i can wait to see what happens next
I’m speechless and don’t know where to begin, I just know that I need more of this book. Great plot and awesome characters that just draw you in and leave you oblivious to the world around you.
I boluntatily reviewed a copy of "FORBIDDEN WARLOCK" WOW!!! Such an addicting interesting, entertaining, suspense filked drama, intrigue, angst, prophecys, twists that make for a very interesting unique story. James is a hybrid half wolf/warlock his father Alpha of Wolfsbane Pack he's an outcast his mother a witch ran off leaving him behind didn't want him. James Aunt very kind & warm shows up telling James she needs his help the prophecy Say's he will change the world he finds out something he never knew a part of him was missing he always felt it. James meets Allegra shes like him & also his mate his mother who's pure evil has been training her. Will allegra be his savior or destroy him you have to get this book to follow their journey see if they get their HEA I definitely recommend I can't wait for next book in this exciting series.
Always an outsider within his pack, even as the son of the alpha. Having been abandoned by his mother and scorned by his pack mates...James feels as though something is missing. This new series has so much to hold your interest. Its a world filled with witches, warlocks and wolves....and like in real life, the prejudices of hybrids within this magical world. However when faced with contempt, betrayal, abuse and pain....it can also forge people with spines of steel and huge hearts. There's tons of intrigue, adventure, mind trips, HUGE reveals, and a possible Romance or two along the way 😉. I can't wait to see where this series takes us, and I plan on cheering our main characters on every step of the way.
Absolutely amazing start to new series by the amazing Jenn D Young. I was so excited to read this book. James is a witch/wolf hybrid and is deemed unfit to rule the pack. His entire life he's heard he isn't good enough because he is a hybrid. Suddenly Allegra appears out of nowhere. Allegra is a witch, water her strong point, and she finds James. They are fated mates but life isn't going to be easy as James' mother wants to take over the world and needs his magic and she'll do what is in her power to make him. This book reels you in and takes you to a different world. I haven't read many non RH books but I love Jenn her books so I had to. The story is well written and the world Jenn creates is amazing. I'll be dreaming of this for sure.
This was really good! I haven't read a book before with a wolf shifter/warlock hybrid but I love original and unique books so this was right up my street! Told from dual point of view but mostly the male was different as writers normally focus more heavily on the female point of view but as the story focused more on James, his past and current situation it made more sense to focus on the male POV anyway. I really enjoyed the storyline, I could never have guessed what was going to happen next and there were a few surprises! It ended on a happy for now note so although it could be left there,I would really love a continuation so we get to see a certain someone get what is coming to them!
James is a hybrid Warlock/Wolf shifter. He does not fit in with the pack. He has never fit in. Rejected by his witch mother and raised by his Alpha Wolf father he’s just looking for his place in the world. He has felt all his life like something is missing, like he has only gotten half the story. Finally when his Aunt Elena comes for a visit he learns a shocking truth. It changes his life forever. This was a very unique twist on a Witch/Shifter novel. I really enjoyed it and hope to read more. James is quite a strong and well developed character and it will be interesting to see where it leads. And for all of you who hate cliffhangers. This book is for you!
I am just going to say this is the first review I have done on here and this is why. I absolutely loved this book I was hook from the start. There is not a lot of books out there where the guy is the main character and telling the story it is alway the girl or so I have read so far. I love how James and Oliver meet there Mates. I kind of wish this book was a little bit longer and I want to see more of Oliver and Angelica perspective and see if James and Oliver mother does come to her demise like the want. Hoping for a second book I would love to read until next time!
It almost felt like I blinked, and this book was over. There were so many fascinating little revelations throughout the story that I was glued to the pages. Flipping maniacally, desperate to find out what was going to happen next. Both James and Allegra have been kept in the dark about many things going on around them. What will happen when they learn the truth? Will the balance be set to rights or will Evil triumph in the end? It’s a bit of a cliff hanger, so I’m desperate to see what we’ll learn in the next book. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
What a very interesting and entertaining read especially since I don't read much books on wolf hybrids. Plenty of intrigue, action, and suspense to keep you hooked from beginning to end making it a helluva read. Also this book felt like a filler for future books in this world about evil that reside there and hopefully we'll get more books from the side characters as well. Overall a great read. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Allegra, a witch with an affinity for water, suddenly appears before James, a witch/wolf hybrid, and tension arises. As the story progresses secrets are revealed, a connection is discovered, and overcoming past transgression could be the only way forward. Jenn D. Young has left me wanting to read more about the characters and the world Forbidden Warlock is set in. This book will easily entertain the reader for a few hours and take them to an alternate reality to escape any worries they may have.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
I don't usually read many books where the main character is male, but Jenn D. Young did a fantastic job bringing in these characters and creating a fantastic world of witches, warlocks and wolves. Readers are introduced to James in Forbidden Warlock! Considered an outcast due to his hybrid lineage, James has always felt alone in his pack, even when he is the son of the Alpha. In time, he discovers his true mate Allegra, which was an interesting dynamic. I am very intrigued by the start of this series and I can't wait to continue the series!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
This is a fantastic start to a new series! We meet James a hybrid who is the focus of a prophecy. He meets Allegra, a witch with a water affinity, when she suddenly appears in front of him. The story pretty much takes off from there with plenty of secrets and surprises that will keep you hooked as it all plays out. Makes for a fascinating read that will leave you wanting more. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
This paranormal romance can be freely read as a standalone, providing a complete story arc with only several openings left to write another book in the series. James as a wolf hybrid and warlock with strong and unusual magical abilities is not the type of hero you come across in too many books. Allegra, sweet yet powerful, is a great fit to him and the chemistry between them sparks all the time. There is also a very unique use of the rejected mate trope, tied to some surprising revelations and plot twists in the book. It was a very fast read, full of twists, action, and fast-burn romance.
James and Allegra what a story. They have both brought up thinking they were broken and not what they should be, treated like they were worthless. They may not be perfect but maybe they are perfect for each other. Was it fate that brought them together when they needed each other the most or was it for more. Was it a foretold prophecy? This is a story of children who never had the lives they should and we're never loved the way they deserved. Can they save each other?
A story with a villainous mother/step mother, a witch in training being abused, twin hybrid wolf/witch brothers, this story has lots of plot to discover and look forward to more development in the books to come. James and Allegra find each other in a way different from most books which is also very interesting. Plots, ploys, powerful supes and family secrets make this a story worth the read. I will definitely being reading the next book in the series.
