As per usual in this series, it had an engaging premise, two stories wrapped in one book. Brunelle is back in his element after the previous entry had him out of the country, just in time for his latest case of a man arrested for the brutal murder of his ex-girlfriend. Certain revelations are revealed that seem to suggest that the case is a slam-dunk, but alas, the law is a slippery thing and Brunelle has his work cut out for him. What doesn't help is that a case from Brunelle's past has come back to haunt him too to make things even MORE complicated.
Great pace and flow, which is another usual feature of these books. I liked the little surprises in the story, whether it's within the case or the plot, things that legit made me gasp. I love when I don't see a thing coming. Characters are my favorite features of these books. I am a solid Brunelle fan; he's fun to read and I enjoy his interactions with side and supporting characters. I'm also ridiculously fond of his relationship with Casey and am glad to see that it's (seemingly) going the distance so far. Could Brunelle be maturing at last in the romance department? I suppose time will tell, but I'm still very much a fan.
What bugged me in this story, though, were Brunelle's bizarre ignorance to his own predicaments. No spoilers, but...he displayed some serious dunce moments in this story. How could someone who is THIS aware of a dangerous situation still be THIS uncareful about his comings and goings? It got kind of annoying that he could be so oblivious about very obvious things. I also didn't care for this story's very abrupt ending. Something big happens that I thought for sure might lead to the next book, but Penner instead opts to have it resolved in an overly neat manner. Might as well plop a little bow on it. Talk about a missed opportunity to really stretch out the thrill level.
At any rate, I enjoyed the hell out of this thing and am ready to dive into the next book.
Premeditated Intent is the thirteenth instalment in the David Brunelle Legal Thriller Series. And so the book binge began ... this series turned out to be a gripping and masterfully crafted collection of legal dramas set against the backdrop of Seattle’s criminal justice system. The series follows David Brunelle, a dedicated and sharp prosecutor, as he navigates the complexities of law, morality, and justice. What makes this series stand out is the balance between intense courtroom drama with deeply human stories. David Brunelle is an intriguing character - intelligent, principled, and yet flawed in ways that make him even more relatable. Mr. Penner’s writing easily brings the legal world to life with authenticity, offering a fascinating glimpse into the challenges prosecutors face, from gathering evidence to battling wily defense attorneys. Each book in the series presents a unique and thought-provoking case, often delving into some morally ambiguous territory. The plots are tightly woven, with twists that are both surprising and satisfying. Mr. Penner’s ability to build the tension and suspense is noteworthy, as is his knack for creating vivid, multidimensional characters – both the heroes and villains. So, whether you’re a fan of legal thrillers, crime fiction, or simply enjoy a well-told story, then the David Brunelle series delivers on all fronts. Happy Reading…
a man killed a woman in her apt with her children and the neighbors children inside.
the cops went to his house, she had a restraining order on him. they arrested him and said he confessed at his house
but the cops lied about where they were, on the porch vs inside his house with no warrant and they took the bloody knife they said they could see from the porch. the younger cop recanted to the lawyer and said the older cop grabbed him when he opened the door and dragged him to the porch. which they both lied about on the stand
he made some legal maneuvers and got the cop to be allowed to say the guy confessed
meanwhile a man he had put in prison got out and was out to get him. he framed him by shooting the other lawyer with his gun and putting his dna on a note to her to meet him there. he was arrested but got out. he trapped the guy into saying he did it and the cops were listening. they arrested the bad guy

another great read in this series, recommend to other readers
I appreciate an author work when the series continues with the same characters. It makes it feel real. It’s like you reading about people you know in your city or community. The same characters make the series familiar and me as a reader doesn’t have to remember all the different characters and what their role in the story. And even though the storyline gets predictable, the little twists and turns keep it interesting. And the storyline are very enjoyable because of the characters personalities or persona. Please let Jessica win 1 for the team🤷🏽♀️. Author is a great writer, simple and entertaining
Sorry I cannot review the book of one of my favorite authors. But whomever is suppos
. Tupsetupset that as I finished about 2\3 of the book the rest was lost to me. Uselesso check bass 3\4 of the book cut off at less than1\2 a page and toast words on right cause we're also cut off. So whatever I was able to tread made no sense. I am pretty 😀 . Upset to get into a beginning book and have to a bond it. Please have a reader look at this so that no more people cannot finish a book before we even know what the cases stillbirth into.........VERY Very Unhappy as I submit this
Seattle prosecutor David Brunelle is faced with trying a murder case where the main pieces of incriminating evidence have been ruled inadmissible. Meanwhile, a killer Brunelle had put in prison 17 years before has finished his sentence and has vowed to kill the prosecutor. This novel has some fascinating courtroom drama, a lesson in hearsay rules, and an exciting, if abrupt, ending.
I've read several novels in the David Brunelle Legal Thriller series, and Premediated Intent is one of the best, especially the courtroom scenes which I felt were very informative and realistic. My apologies to Stephen Penner because I'm a cheap bastard and only download his books when he is giving them away on Amazon. His novels are well worth their normal full price.
I am a fan of this series and thoroughly enjoy how Dave pulls things together. The support fast tend to make me smile as they call Dave out. This story had a lot of elements, all of which kept me turning the pages to read the outcome. I enjoyed the way this story was told and the pace.
The author writes some of the best courtroom dramas. He was at this best on this one. Never a dull moment. I was disappointed when I finished reading it in record time. Very enjoyable read even to someone who works for the courts.
This is the thirteenth David Brunelle Legal Thriller by Stephen Penner. Amazon Prime and Netflix should take note of this. His books deserve to be made into a television series. His writing is clear and fast paced. He is a lawyer and certainly knows the criminal justice system as few do.
Another guess the outcome right up to the end, that's what I like about Penners style. Not predictable or repetitive just amazing page by page story development and story telling.
I am a voracious reader but only of well-written material. The fact that I have read all Penner's books about Dave Brunelle speaks for itself. Great plots, intelligent writing, smart but fun hero. More, please!
Premeditated conclusion I would say . I find that the Ms. Carlisle character is becoming more the entertaining character of the series. the most entertaining character in the
A very surprise ending,l was a little bit shocked when Jessica was shot thinking that she was dead. But later on to find out she did heed Dave's warning. They both are so good. Thank you.
Easy reading and natural speech. The character's language was normal and natural. People realistic in motives and actions. I enjoyed 'being' with them. shellove.
Thanks for another outstanding novel. What a wonderful mind thriller. Goad to see David, Chen and other friends figured out how to save David and ensure truth triumphs.
