This is one of my five all-time favorite books -- and a must-read for all Latter-day Saints who are desirous of increasing spirituality, drawing nearer to the Lord, and eventually having their calling and election made sure. The author puts forth the idea that we all go through a process in our spiritual growth which brings us closer to the Savior. I love that you can read it and see what you have already experienced and then know what the "next steps" will be and what the blessings are if you keep pressing forward.
I have personally found the most valuable chapters (so far based on my own progression) to be "Into the Wilderness" and "Satanic Assignments." That second chapter title I just mentioned might scare you, but don't let it. The purpose of the chapter is to help you see how the adversary and his minions work so that you can recognize what they are doing and be better able to dispel them before they have much impact.
Although this book is now out of print, you can often find used copies. I really encourage you to add to this "must read" shelf, and then go buy and read it. You will be so glad you did!
This book is basically a sequel to the author's earlier book, Spiritual Survival in the Last Days. In many ways it picks up where that book left off. I've read it before and liked it and learned a lot from it, so I expected to have a similar experience with this book and wasn't disappointed. I found this an interesting book that talks about a number of gospel subjects such as repentance, being born again, deepening conversion, being tried and proven; confronting and overcoming Satan; calling and election made sure, and the Second Comforter.
I have read other books that taught about these subjects, so not everything in here was new information to me, but I appreciated the author's perspective and he definitely clarified and deepened my understanding of many of these topics. I appreciated his use of the extended metaphor of the journey in the wilderness as an illustration of our spiritual progression. That made a lot of sense to me and shed light on some things that I hadn't considered before.
Reading this book was a valuable addition to my self-education on the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I would recommend it to friends.
Second time through and I love it just as much as I did the first time. I read this along with my scriptures and enjoy the clarification I received on several topics. I definitely recommend!
This is books such good advice on how to improve ourselves spiritually. The principle of grace to grace and line upon line gives me hope as I continue to make progress towards my goals.
This book was amazing. It covers the same topics as "Following the Light of Christ into his Presence" by John Pontius and "The Second Comforter Conversing with the Lord Through the Veil" by Denver Snuffer. It added additional information that was very enlightening that these other books didn't cover. All of these books provide information to help individuals with their spiritual progression so they can receive the new birth by Fire and the Holy Ghost, be sanctified and work toward having their calling and election made sure and even eventually having the privilege of the Second Comforter if they prove worthy in time. As a result of reading these books and other experiences I now believe that these principles are not only possible but they are the reason for our being here on this earth and everyone should be doing all in their power to learn of these principles and have them occur in their lives.
I found it disappointing. I know many have found it very profound, and I can kind of see that, but it seems like a lot of the things that it stated were pretty basic, and then the less basic things were more questionable.
That's not saying that I think it is horribly false. For example when he talks about knowing the names of the devils, but then really it's knowing their missions, like some are specifically working on divorce, I'm not sure that I believe that, or that knowing it is more helpful than realizing that there are temptations and troubles and they would attack things that are important, like marriage.
The point that I fully agree with is that it is easy for us to be lax, and that there is good reason for us to be diligent, but I am not sure this is the most effective book at getting that point across.
This book pointed out several different principles and their deeper meanings. It's a real motivator on striving to become a reliable servant of the Lord. I would read this again, mostly because there is no way to remember it all and it was enlightening.
This is a quick read, very interesting, chock full of information. It is the second book I've read that delves more deeply into the subject of the Second Comforter. Great book.
