Rate this book
EVERYONE HAS A BREAKING POINT. When Dawson Reeves, a seasoned detective on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is involved in the death of a young girl while pursuing criminal suspects, the incident is so traumatic it obliterates his ability to process the overwhelming self-doubt and tremendous guilt he feels. Stymied in his search for answers as the streets fall under the control of a powerful New England crime family, and with nowhere else to turn, he starts to spiral downward, away from reality… and into an abyss.Once there, he’s not sure he’ll ever be able to get back. Because to get back, he’ll have to battle his own demons… and that's not something he's sure he can do.The resulting guilt-riddled journey takes Reeves from the shores of New England and Cape Cod south to the Florida Keys and the island of Key West. There, it is not the colorful tropical lifestyle that embraces him, but rather the dark underbelly of the the illicit drug trade business and its players. When those players learn his true identity, they seize him and take him all the way to the bottom. Now, saturated with heroin, enshrouded in an evil Voodoo curse and dumped in an abandoned overgrown parking lot on the outskirts of town, Reeves must battle his way back, fighting to rediscover his own identity… and the identity of those responsible for the death that started it all. It will be a battle for his own sanity and peace of mind, and that of the young girl’s family. A battle that forces him to return to the dangerous underworld of the Cape, which so few see. From idyllic Cape Cod to flamboyant Key West, Reeves must learn the hard way that he cannot fight alone. Only through the help of life-long friends, wonderful strangers, strong women, a canine soulmate... and a street junkie named Roscoe who has finally had enough of it all... will he finally get a foothold on reality and find justice for the young girl who was killed and her family.

Not great

But not bad. The story started out well enough, quickly building characters and developing a good storyline. However, the book is about 1/3 too long and lost my attention. Many grammatical errors and occasionally drifted away from the storyline. Not bad, but it could have been so much more.
