Healing the Orphaned Heart

Rate this book
“Why do I have to leave? Why didn’t my father make you my guardian?” Rose Williams looked at her governess and butler as tears welled up in her eyes. She couldn’t understand why her father didn’t think of these things before his death. She was an orphan now and had to move from Boston to Colorado to live with her uncle and his family.

All Rose ever wanted was the love of her father – not his money or prominence, just his love. After her mother’s early death, her father was all she had left. But, instead of reaching out to her and giving her the love she so desperately needed, his grief and pain made him pull away - leaving her to the care of his servants and staff. She grows up into a beautiful, headstrong, feisty, yet serious young woman, but no matter how hard she tries to ignore the emptiness in her heart, it was still there.
Terrified to meet the relatives she hadn’t seen since she was five years old, she makes the journey alone. She quickly realizes that her late father’s wealth - and with that, her dowry – made her a target for journalists and men everywhere.
Will her family welcome her with open arms, or are they taking her in because they have to? Is a man worthy of her love out there, or does everyone only care about her wealth?

Rebecca Lange is a devoted romantic at heart. Though she has explored a variety of genres throughout her writing journey, her deepest passion lies in historical fiction—particularly stories set in the 1800s American West and the Regency era.

A passionate advocate, Rebecca uses her stories to raise awareness of abuse, human trafficking, and the devastating impact of drug and alcohol addiction. These themes are not woven in for suspense alone, but as a reminder that such struggles are tragically real—and that victims are never to blame.

She is also a firm believer in women’s rights, inspired by the courageous women of the 1800s who fought to prove they were not the property of their husbands but their partners and equals. Rebecca upholds the conviction that violence has no place in relationships or marriage.

Originally from Germany, she was born and raised there before moving abroad in 2002 to serve a mission for her church in Scotland. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she now lives in Utah with her husband, their two sons (ages 18 and 20), and two lively Yorkie puppies.

Her writing motto is: Never Smut, Always Sizzling Kisses, Consistently Closed Door. Rebecca delights in weaving passion and tenderness into her stories, offering what she calls “sweet and diet spice” romance. Diet spice—what is that, you ask? It’s the thrill of longing gazes, passionate kisses, and close embraces that build anticipation without ever crossing into explicit territory. For her, the most powerful love stories are those that remain tasteful and teasing, proving that romance can be both heart-stirring and wholesome.

Rebecca has been crafting stories since her teenage years, always drawn to tales of love, resilience, and timeless emotion. She published her first work, a small cookbook, in February 2013. Since then, she has released a trilogy and continues to grow her author career, one heartfelt story at a time.

This book made me hate self-publishing. I did not enjoy this book, it was just bad. There were no stakes, though the author tried, and failed to create them. It was exhausting to read in every chapter a new horror that would randomly befall Rose never to see anything come from it. No growth, no lesson learned, just refortifying what we already knew from the beginning, since the passing of her mother the life of this rich privileged white girl has been “tragic”.

All the characters were shallow and I wasn’t able to connect to nary a one. None of them had a distinct voice from one another. They were all flat and unoriginal making it hard for them to connect with one another let alone the reader.

My two biggest pet peeves were the voice of the overall book, I suppose, and it’s egregious historical inaccuracies. For the overall voice at no point did I feel like I, as the read, was being shown something deeper. Getting guided through an experience that can only be told through the medium of novelization by a well written character via their psyche is why we read.
For the historical inaccuracies, the most obvious one was on the cover— the girl, assumed to be the main character Rose, is clearly wearing a hoodie. This book roughly took place from 1881-1885, we know this from the President at the time, President Arthur, who was weirdly one of the secondary heroes in this book. Hoodies weren’t invited until 1930 (https://sanvt.com/journal/history-of-...). Also, the characters all spoke with the vernacular of today— not the late 1800’s. At one point Rose said, “It is what it is.” I can just see her putting that in a hashtag in a tone deaf post about the most recent social issue and how her problems just aren’t as bad. I’m not a linguist, but it seems wildly unlikely that those living in the late 19th century would use such phrases.

Overall not an enjoyable experience, don’t waste your time. Your ‘To Read’ list is in the three digits, knocking out one of those books is a better use of your time.

A new book from Rebecca Lange, a story that you will want to read in one sitting. I have already read “Joining Hearts for Christmas” and “Grandfather’s Will”, and I was eager to read her latest story. She is a talented writer and “Healing the Orphaned Heart” certainly did not disappoint.
Within the pages of this book, I found a romance story that was lovely to read, standing as proof of the author’s never-ending imagination. With plenty of twists and turns, it kept me interested until the very end, which was completely unexpected. Suspense accompanied me every step of the way, and I could not wait to find out what happened next.
Those who are passionate about romance novels will find this story to be utterly delightful. The strong and feisty heroine, Rose, is a great main character. She is beautiful inside and out, and powerful enough to overcome the adversities of life. Even though the book is set in a different time period, the author has managed to make her readers feel as if they are part of the story, of course also thanks to the great characters.
I found Rose to be resilient above all else, and I was eager to se where her search for love would lead her. The male hero was the perfect addition to the story, but I am not going to offer too many details about their interaction, you will have to read the book to find out. All I can say is that the author has an incredible affinity of integrating powerful messages into her stories; this time, we are taught how big of a difference keeping our faith can make.
A well-written book, with an interesting story and a powerful message. The author has managed to deliver a beautiful YA Christian romance novel, one that I can only describe as fast-paced and thoroughly enjoyable. Another great book from an author I have grown to love, well done!

Will her family welcome her with open arms, or are they taking her because they have to? Is a man worthy of her love out there or does everyone only care about her wealth.

🌹I loved reading this heartwarming & beautiful book . It's a story of Rose & her journey after her fathers death .There're some extremely warming & heartbreaking scenes especially in Chapter -9 ,which I love the most. - The heartwrenching letter that Andrew wrote to Rose.

"All these years she had thought of him as her best friend, yet this letter was full of accusations &Censuring."
Had he always been self centered? Why would he accuse her of not caring? And he was the one who spilled the information to press? Rose heart aches deeply. He didn't even ask if she was okay. "

I loved & enjoyed every bit of this book, it's well penned as well as all the characters are well knitted together.

I'm thankful to the author Rebecca lange for this arc.

This is my first book by Rebecca Lange and I have to say I really enjoyed it.
The premise of the story is already a good one - a wealthy heiress who is sent to live with relatives after the death of her father. A dowry that puts her in extreme danger. And a town that comes together to protect her. I also really enjoyed reading about this time in history and the trials of woman and indigenous peoples.
Lange's execution of the story is wonderful. I was turning the pages to find out exactly what would happen to Rose. She went through some terrible ordeals but she is a strong, intelligent woman.
The question is - who will win her heart and who is playing her for the money?

When I received this book as an ARC, I knew I was in for a heartwarming story, and I was right.
Healing the Orphaned heart follows a young lady, Rose, whose mother had passed away when she was just a young girl. Due to the heartbreak of losing his wife, her father becomes distant and even somewhat neglectful, leaving her to grow up feeling alone and unloved, except for the care of her governor and house servants.
The story picks up shortly after Rose's father dies when she is sent to live with family members that she barely knows. From the onset of this journey, she is opened up to a number of adventures, friends, and enemies.
I liked Rose, although I did find myself shouting at the pages several times. She was constantly being hounded by men who wanted to claim her for the sake of her dowry, and she refused to keep herself safe, even though there were people around to protect her. But she was very headstrong, and I couldn't help being reminded of one or two overly strong-willed girls I knew back in the day who would very quickly do what they thought was right, regardless of the possible consequences. So it was easy to forgive Rose for her seemingly stubborn character, especially as a lot of the time she was trying to help someone else.
We start the story with a few possible love interests and I quite liked all of them, but I was very happy she ended up with the one that she did. He was my favourite, But I won't give away anything here!
The writing style is quick and to the point, so the story is easy to follow and I enjoyed the whole journey she went through during the story. She started as someone cautious of what her new life would be like, and whether or not she would be accepted, and, although things didn't become much easier and there seemed to be quite a bit of heartache along the way, the feeling of hope remained until the end.
It was a truly heartwarming tale of love, courage, and one very feisty but loveable character.

Oh my! Let the adventures begin!

I was honoured to receive an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is a book that you will want to read in one sitting… well a break for lunch, and afternoon tea, and maybe dinner… LOL … but otherwise… I just love the author's writing style… It leaves much "scope for the imagination" (Anne of Green Gables Quote - That wins my ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating right there!!) and keeps the story flowing quickly, with twists and turns so unexpected you are left shaking your head thinking, "Wait! What? Did that just happen? Hold on a minute… I need to reread that!" Sometimes the suspense was so much I had to put the book down and walk away for a break… that lasted all of 5minutes when I just had to pick the book up again to see what happened next! Talk about sitting on the side of your seat!! The author's promise of a "strong and feisty heroine" with a "strong alpha male" hero… Ahh!… Wow!! 💖

I love the main character Rose, she is beautiful although you would expect from her experiences she would be rather tired and jaded. Shipped across the country on the death of her last surviving parent to family she barely remembers… and the adventures begin… the highs and lows and twists and turns.

I really enjoy books set in this time period but this book feels so real, like we are walking in this time, and all the characters' personalities just burst off the page!

And the ending… my goodness… the ending... I can honestly say I did not see it coming! That's all I am saying! Now go read the book!

Oh, but make your cup of tea before you start, because you won't be wanting to stop to get it! LOL

Happy Reading! 💖

Healing The Orphaned Heart is a young adult Christian romance novel that centers on young Rose; a resilient, beautiful, quick-thinking, hopeful, yet vulnerable young woman who is in a desperate search for love and healing. After losing her mother at the tender age of five and the recent loss of her father, Rose is forced to move across the country from the stiff social life of Boston to the wild, unknown Boulder and to family that may as well be strangers.
After information on her dowry wealth is leaked, Rose finds herself prey to wealth hunters putting her journey to Boulder to a traumatic start. A series of events upon her arrival further test Rose’s faith and spirit. However, throughout, Rose learns to rely on the relentless love of her new family and community and her resilience and faithful hope save her.

Though the heroine cries a little more than I care for and finds herself a damsel in distress and in need of rescuing by a man more than is my personal taste, the overall message of allowing yourself to lean on family, community, and your faith is a refreshing one for young readers.
Also, key characters such as Clementine, provide an opportunity for young readers to have advice snuck into story that perhaps at certain ages we wouldn’t be as receptive to from our own adult role models.

Lange has a clear, innate affinity for weaving message and story and I thoroughly look forward to her next work and seeing her voice evolve.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This will be completely spoiler free.

Have you ever read a book that was like taking a step back in time yet felt like you were living it in present time? That is exactly what Healing the Orphaned Heart delivers. Rebecca Lange writes beautifully. Amongst her words are hidden gems of lessons taught and lessons learned.

There is so much character growth with the characters! Rose Williams, our heroine in this story, is a tender but strong young woman. Everyone needs a friend like Grant in their life... even Andrew. There are plenty of sad moments in this story but also so much love from family and non-family alike.

I highly recommend Healing the Orphaned heart to anyone that enjoys reading clean romances, historical romances... also, contemporary romances. There are plenty of twists and turns in Healing the Orphaned Heart to keep your interest. I would love to learn more about the side characters in the future!

Rebecca Lange is one of my favorite authors, so I was delighted to be an ARC reader for Healing the Orphaned Heart. This book is about a young lady named Rose who lost her mother long ago. She has now lost her father and been left with a hefty dowry. This dowry causes young men to chase after her. She no longer can trust anyone, not even the Uncle and Aunt's family where she is sent to live. I almost thought of giving this a 4.5/5 star review, as there is one minor issue that I had with the book. She is written in a way that she is supposed to be very untrusting, yet she goes through men a bit too easily, looking for protection and love. I can't give away any more than that, or else I will give away the story. I definitely appreciated the twist in the ending, because it helped to satisfy the need I was feeling for the first male character. You'll need to read the book to see what that's about. As always... Bravo Rebecca Lange!

Clean Historical Romance-At first I feel bad for Rose as well as everything she lost and everything she’s been through, as well as everything the death of her father brought on including attacks, reporters and people fighting for her dowry, but I loved the marshals, her cousins, her aunt and uncle that she moved in with and her neighbors. I definitely fell in love with the dogs and her horse who were protective and brought comedy without realizing it.
Rose is a strong MC with a beautiful heart, who finds so much more than she believed she could. She is not afraid to fight for what she believes in, her faith strong. I loved watching the way she dealt with every situation. She felt like an angel on earth even in the face of evil. I love the way the story showed her growth, compassion and beauty inside and out. I love the creativity of the romance part of the story! I have to say I love how the story ends; it was what I was hoping for from the beginning.

Rose Williams has suffered a lot. Her mother passed away when she was young, and it deeply affected her father. He threw himself into work (needlessly, as he was already wealthy) and left the care of his daughter to the servants. When he passed away, Rose was 18 and sent to live with her aunt and uncle she hadn’t seen for over 10 years. However, it’s not a smooth transition. Being from a wealthy family, her dowry was large, attracting men who didn’t care for Rose, herself. Would she ever find love, or would she be forced into a marriage she didn’t want?

As always, the main character was a strong independent woman fully capable of standing up for herself (and she did, many times). I am grateful that Rebecca continuously writes these fierce women, because there too many books where women are perceived as weak and unnecessary. This was another book with a great storyline although fairly similar to some of her other works.

I was hooked right from the beginning with the authors note that there would be an alpha male. My favourite kind of character. Yes I love strong feisty female leads but give me an alpha too.
Speaking of feisty females I loved Rose.
Another two characters who stole my heart were Lucy and Sally. They’re great, protective, loyal dogs. I just have to highlight some awesome animal characters.
There are many fantastic characters in the book, and many twists and turns with them. The large cast of characters contribute to the exciting plot.
This book is very well written I was invested in the characters, and brought into their world by the authors well woven descriptions.
I really enjoyed the book. It left me feeling surprised. I thought I had the ending figured out but it was far from predictable!

This is my first book by Rebecca Lange and I have to say I LOVE her writing style! It allows the book to move fast and it allows the story to unfold in such a way to make it a page turner. You don't get a lot of flowery descriptions, but what you do get is a fast paced story!

Rose lost her mom at a young age and because of her father grief, essentially lost him too. Her father passes away from an illness and Rose is sent to live with her Aunt and Uncle ( her fathers brother and his wife). Her father left her a large dowry and she is relentlessly pursued by not only the media but male "suitors" as well.

I did not see the ending coming at all. My jaw literally dropped and I had to go back and re-read what happened. I love stories like this!!

A huge thank you to the author for an early ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Rebecca Lange has done it again! She has come through with another action-packed story with a sweet but feisty heroine, strong alpha males (the kind, gentle type, my personal favs) and a well drawn story. I love Rose; her youth makes her naive at times, but weren’t we all!? But her past makes her empathetic, kind, and longing for family relationships, a love to call her own. Her fears of never finding a man who will love her for herself and not her fortune are well-founded since lecherous men are lurking around every corner. The author also surprised me when something didn’t quite turn out the way I thought it was going to. I love the little twists and turns she takes within her stories.
Great read!

I can honestly say that this book warmed my heart. It is a well written story about a young woman’s journey, after her father passed away. With both parents gone she is sent to live with her uncle. Without giving too much away, so much happens to her. This is where we discover what a strong, loving, amazing person she is!

I really loved the way the author intertwined and developed the characters. There are lots of excitement, terror and surprises.

This book will truly touch your heart.

Healing the Orphaned Heart was amazing! It follows Rose, as she deals with the death of her father, leaving the only home she knows to move in with relatives she hardly remembers, and an inheritance that becomes more of a death sentence! Add in a handful of possible suitors vying for her attention, and you have a recipe for an absolutely thrilling read! Once I started reading, I could not stop! But that has become the norm with Rebecca's books!

Healing the Orphaned Heart

Thanks to the author, Rebecca Lange, for giving me this book for free. This review is my opinion.

After the sudden death of her father, a seventeen-year-old Rose Williams finds herself in an orphan position. Unlike regular orphans, she is loaded because her father was one of the wealthiest men in Boston. Since no other family lives nearby, Rose has to go to Colorado to live with her father's brother –a reverend– who will be responsible for finding her a husband.

On the way there, she is attacked by some men who claim themselves as reporters. They harass and force her to wed one of them. A man named Grant rescues her then three US Marshals show up and protect her. The harassment doesn't stop but continues even once she settles in her uncle's house. Rose and her uncle’s family don’t understand because no one knew about her trip to the state. Obviously, someone exposed her new status and the trip to a newspaper and made her a target of dowry hunters: men who are dazzled by her wealth.

The storyline is good. I’m okay with Rose’s character. She is a kind girl and is lucky to have many young men who put their lives to protect her. But she cries and blushes a lot. My favorite people in the story are her uncle and aunty because they are good and trustworthy people, which are hard to find nowadays.

This novel is under a historical Christian romance genre. So if you like the genre, you'll like this.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

You can't help but feel for Rose. She has recently been orphaned and has inherited a lot of money. After this, she is promptly whisked off to Colorado to live with her uncle and his family. Whilst travelling on the train, she is accosted by newshounds desperate for a story. This is only the beginning of her troubles. Everyone tries to get their hands on Rose's dowry or tries to marry her against her will.
I truly wanted Rose to succeed because she was kind and gentle and always looked for the best in people. Does she have a life happy ever after? This is a spoiler free review, you'll have to read it for yourself to find out!
I felt the story was bereft of descriptions and I would have liked more descriptions. I guessed that it was the 19th Century from the descriptions that were there. The dialogue helps drive the plot which is clean and wholesome. If you like clean romance then this book is for you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Healing the Orphaned Heart” by Rebecca Lange
Sweet Clean American West Historical Romance
This is a really big story. A lot happens in a relatively short amount of time. I do love fiction, the world where anything can happen. I did enjoy the story. There were times that I was not sure if it was the story or the narrator’s voice that just felt a bit off to me. But, I was probably just me and where my head & heart were at that moment in time. It is an easy listen and a good story. Be ready for an adventure when you read this story. Happy Reading ! !

Healing The Orphaned Heart is the first book I read by Rebecca Lange, and what a thrilling ride it was! I was hooked from the first page, experiencing heart palpitations at every twist and turn—and there are enough of them to keep you on the edge of your seat!

After Rose’s father dies, leaving her orphaned and rich, she leaves Boston to live with her uncle’s family in Colorado. From that moment, Rose has her work cut out for her fighting to stave off a horde of fortune hunters set on getting their hands on her dowry.

Rose is a heroine you can’t help love. She is a feisty, strong willed young woman with a big heart who faces her adversities with courage, determination, and faith. The cast of secondary characters lend so much authenticity to the story. It is so easy to fall in love with them because the author writes them so vividly.

Rebecca Lange has a talent for creating intricate, jaw-dropping situations. This book was a joy to read, holding me engaged and anxiously rooting for the man she ultimately finds love with. And what a beautiful ending! I look forward to reading more books by Rebecca.

After losing her father to typhus and not having a mother anymore, Rose is forced to move across the country to live with her aunt and uncle in Colorado. She is terrified to leave her home and live with relatives she doesn't remember, but her uncle is her legal guardian, so she has no choice.
As if the unknown of what to expect isn't enough, being the only child of her parents means she is left with a dowry and inheritance many would kill for. She might be an orphan, but Rose is also a very wealthy heiress.

Rose quickly discovers that being the daughter of a prominent and wealthy father comes with a prize. Reporters and men target her, making her a hunted prey in hopes of getting a marriage out of it and getting their hands on her money. Kidnapping attempts, assault, and several undertakings of trying to ruin her reputation become the new normal for her and the two marshals her father hired (before his death) to escort her to her relatives, realize that they can't just drop her off, but have to be her full-time protectors and bodyguards.
