A TABOO ROMANCE. A DESTINY REVEALED. SECRETS UNCOVERED.
The school year continues, and I’m digging more and more into my family history. It’s been shrouded in darkness for too long. But the more I poke into my mother’s shadowed past, the more I wonder if history is repeating itself.
Along my way, I’ve found an unlikely ally in fellow Prime Logan Brooks. And while my partially bonded mate, Ashe, is away serving in the Dragonborn Militia, Logan is here for me. He knows all the right things to do and say…
As feelings develop for both, I know I can’t lead the other on. I thought I was meant to be with Ashe… but maybe I have a choice after all.
I’m solving this Dragonborn puzzle one piece at a time. I just hope that it isn’t tearing me apart as I do.
T.L. lives in Colorado with her husband and two children. She’s a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder and an avid outdoorswoman. When she's not outside or working on her latest novel, you'll find her reading, listening to science podcasts, or playing the Sims.
*This review got a tad bit ranty and contains minor spoilers for this book.
I both love and hate this book so much. On one hand, the story is fascinating and well-written (it's probably what's still keeping me reading). On the other hand, the heroine is left in a dark so dark that I don't even know which way is up anymore. It's frustrating when everyone in her life lies to her and makes decisions that affect her for her without talking to her about it. That's my biggest issue with this series so far.
So once again, let's give it up for all the useless, lying, and manipulating adults in this novel! Woohoo! They went to new lying hights in this one, let me tell you! The only one who was somewhat more okay than the others was Evgeni (ok, ok he's actually my favorite character in this series so far!). He at least made his intentions clear from the start and told her to her face what he was willing to tell her and what was off-limits for now. I just hope I'm not wrong about him.
Unfortunately, I'm starting to dislike Ashe (the hero) as well. I understand where he's coming from and how weird he must feel about the bonding (which I wholeheartedly agree with him about) BUT why is he still making decisions for her without talking to her about it? These people expect her to just take it laying down? If you treat her like a kid she's going to act out like one. Could these two just sit down and have a heart to heart for once in their damned lives?
Logan still gives me the creeps. Sydney has made it abundantly clear that she's just open to being friends and he up and soared over that line so fast. It was disgusting and he had to get her drunk to do it too. It also seems like the Council™is trying to get Logan to Syd together, which is so disturbing. Why are all these grown adults so interested in a 16-year-olds 'intimate' life. Please grow up and leave her the heck alone, thanks. In conclusion, I humbly think that Logan should take a hike and maybe get lost in the woods and die of starvation.
Sydney has had better days. I've lost count of the number of times she's been betrayed by this point. She gets no say in anything that happens to her. Everything that happens that affects her is told to her at the last possible moment and always catches her by surprise (and it's not for her lack of trying to get answers either). All the secret-keeping is doing is putting her in unnecessary danger because she doesn't even know the danger is there until it's right in front of her. At this point, nothing is her fault because she's just trying to keep her head above the lies and not drown in them. Her grandparents seem to be the worst of the bunch right along with Angeven. She should really let her dragon dig in the minds of these adults. Maybe then she'll get actual answers before things hit the fan.
As frustrating as this book is we did get some teeny tiny sprinkles of possible answers. I'm hoping it'll get better from here because I REALLY need answers and a lot more world-building. I have so many questions about the Dragon Born society and those answers would really help with making this world more realistic.
The ending sucked. The minor cliffhanger was understandable. What Ashe did and put on her was not. Again, I understand and sympathize with what he's going through but I dislike how he's going about it. Making decisions for Syd based on how you feel is not the right call here. I guess Book #3 will be seeing me after all.
A huge thank you to the author for sending me an early copy.
Over Easy follows Sydney as she tries to discover the truth of her family that has been shrouded in secrecy for too long. But as she delves deeper into the mystery that has been haunting her, she begins to release there is more to her family’s past than she ever thought there was and now, she must bring the truth to light.
Over Easy combines the an immersive world of dragons and Primes, with a fast-paced and mysterious. There were so many different aspects of the setting that was fascinating to read about; the systems of rituals and bonds, the laws and regulations of the world and the magic of the dragon companions. The mystery of Sydney’s family was cleverly constructed and made the book immersive and addictive to read. One of my favourite aspects to the book was the relationship and tension between Logan, Ashe and Sydney which added to the story by being intertwined with the ongoing mystery of Sydney’s heritage. The setting of Dragonborn Academy as a 19th century building created a setting for secrecy, as well as some glimpses of the wider world. I had an amazing time reading it and I would definitely recommend.
Sydney.... Sydney.. this girl. I swear she really irritated me in this book. In the first book i could understand her reluctance to this new world, but surely as someone who has grown up human most of her life, she can realise that a relationship with a grown man is not entirely normal.
She was 100% selfish in this book, and it really turned me off liking her... I just wanted to yell at her and say NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT YOU! Every 5 mins she was wondering why Ashe hadn't called her, or if he would leave her, all the while trying to convince him to cross a line, that he knows is wrong.
Not once did she try and see it from his perspective, he is a GROWN ASS MAN and she is a 16-year CHILD - she kept saying she's not a child, but everything she did in this book was childish and completely proved Ashe's point that she was too young for the bond to be completed.
Not once has she thought about what her presence has done to his life, which completely changed from the moment he met her. He has a job to do and she's over in her room bitching about how he doesn't dote on her 24-7, how he can t be with her. Well, that's because he is an ADULT with responsibilities and not a STUDENT like her, why would the be hanging around a school all day???
The only reason I want to continue the series is that I like Ashe, and I want to understand the mystery about her mom and adopted dad. Sydney is the most annoying person ever! And now I feel like the next book is going to show her making even more stupid decisions because she didn't get her way with Ashe, she really needs to get over herself! BIG TIME!!!!!!
She's actually really immature and I'm not surprised that Ashe doesn't want to be bonded to a child who gets mad at everything he doesn't do rather than trying to be more respectful the way he is with her!
All I can say is she better grow as a character in the next book with some redeeming qualities, and actually stop and think things through before throwing a tantrum.
I had a hard time putting this one down. I did not want to come back to the real world. I definitely recommend this one. Read this series in order or you will miss something.
.....
Poor Sydney, not torn between two men but head over heels for one. Everyone is trying to make decisions for her and no one will listen. It bugged me a few times when she was looking before leaping with a few situations but get it girl! Why won't Ashe listen to her??? He thinks he's doing whats right for her but he just won't listen to her side. And all these people after her! Whoa! They all want a piece and she's just trying to navigate her new world. I cannot wait to read the next.

I honestly don’t know where to start with this book. I have been (im)patiently waiting for the arrival of this and now that it’s here I can honestly say it was definitely worth the wait! The author did NOT disappoint.
Sydney is a teenager, sixteen and a half, who finds herself uprooted from the life she has always known and thrown into a new world full of secrets and dragons with no answers to her questions. She is snarky, intelligent, and has lived more in her short life than most people have their whole lives. She’s used to being treated as an equal. Then there’s Ashe, who is determined, a planner, loyal, sweet, compassionate, and gorgeous. As she goes through her new life she must learn the ins and outs of high school, the Dragonborn community, and who she can believe. Together they must learn to communicate to one another, to lean and trust each other, and so much more. Will they be able to get over the bumps thrown at them?
This book has a little bit of everything! People with hidden agendas, family feuds and royal families, and so much more. It’s an auctioned packed book that sucks you in from page one and hasn’t let me go even know. There’s chemistry and romance, jealousy and rivals, and so much more. Wonderfully written in a way that flows and is impossible to put down. You will NOT be disappointed.
I have been patiently waiting for this, after reading the first in the series, and now I'm gonna be jonesing for the next installment. TL has a writing style that engages you from the onset. Her characters are real, they are who they are and make no apologies for that. She writes in detail so that the characters and the settings come to life in your mind. Take a chance on this series, the you are guaranteed to love it!
Well. Ive been patiently waiting for this since the first book. This is the 2nd part and you must read the first book first to understand whats going on, i loved this almost as much as the first, again this ended on a bit of a cliff hanger, deffo need book 3 asap!!!
Does sydney end up with ashe? Or does she go to logan?! Argh i neeeeeed to know!
What an amazing story. The intensity of the connection between Ashe and Sydney is breath taking. I had all the feels with this story and can't wait for book three to see what happens next. I'm rooting for Sydney and Ashe.
OMG. This is my favorite series of all time. I started reading and had to binge the entire series. (I just read the whole series, so I'm going to write one review and copy them to each book.)
Yes, there's an age gap, but the way it's done is so realistic, honest and soul quenching. The main characters are amazing. Sydney is mature for her age but vulnerable and intriguing as she discovers this new Dragonborn world. I love the world we're thrust into and it's so refreshing to learn along the way with the characters then just be given an information dump :)
Sadly, I almost didn't read this book because of some of the angry reviews, but honestly, I have no idea what book they read because this book was delicately balanced between reality and the world inside this book.
DO NOT MISS OUT! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, but if I had to choose, I'd choose the Dragon Born Academy.
So, I don't do paranormal, and I don't do YA....and yet, here I am, with a killer book hangover and a desperate need to find out what's next for this young 'un.
Damn you, TL Christianson, and your ability to suck me into these worlds 😂
This is the second book in the series, but (being the stubborn reader that I am) I read this one first and had to go back to book #1 to get a little more background. So technically, you COULD read this one without preamble, but I'd totally recommend reading them in order so you don't wind up like me, wondering wtf is going on in the first few pages but continuing on anyway. (Unless, like me, you completely trust Christianson to write a story so good you don't care if you exclaim "so the dragons are like...legit dragons...inside of these people?!?" while at work, making your coworkers assume you've been drinking.)
This was a super fun read, with enough detail and depth to make me forget it was all fiction. I genuinely care about the characters, especially Sydney-- and even without knowing what was going on, I felt an immediate connection with George.
I still need to finish Cracked Open, so no one ruin it for me, but wanted to get this out there so everyone would know that they should read this book. Good storytelling defies labels and genres, as is evidenced by my obsession with all things TL Christianson, so even if you don't think this kinda thing is for you.... it totally is. Read it now.
The FC is a tad bit too childish and irritating but overall a good book. Interesting world and characters. Hopefully some answers will be given in the next book. I don't mind cliffhangers but be warned the first two books ends with it. I want to know more about Ashe, right know he's kind of a non developed character and I'm not sure if I like him or not.
My life as a metaphor- over easy: it’s the same egg, but once flipped, it looked completely different.
Over Easy is the second book in The Dragon Born Academy Series and it takes place immediately after Book One. This cannot be read as a standalone, you need to read Cracked Open first or you will be COMPLETELY lost. Great follow up to Book One. We see Sydney moving through her first year at Balaur Academy, getting settled in and learning how to be a student and a DragonBorn. Ashe is gone doing Dragonborn Militia things and this leaves Sydney with lots of time to devote to school, learning more about her history, trying to uncover the secrets surrounding her mom and George, and friends... like Logan Brooks. As mature as Sydney thinks she is, she is still only 16 and trying to navigate a new world and having to learn the rules as she goes. The more she digs to find answers, the more questions come about. She’s learning that everyone has an agenda and that truth is subjective. The DragonBorn are a very small community where Power is key and secrets are currency, and Sydney needs to learn to harness her DragonBorn powers and trust her gut (and Aaraeth - her dragon) We learn quite a few bombshells that once again turn Sydney’s life upside down and I’m curious to see how they will play out in Book 3. This book differed from book one in that the prologue and epilogue are in Ashe’s POV. I absolutely loved this! I think we needed to see what Ashe was thinking and feeling, I think it changes the whole trajectory of Ashe and Syd’s relationship. Ashe is a good man and I see where he’s coming from and see why he’s done the things he’s done. I feel like the prologue helped make this story not so taboo with the age gap and bond mate/homewrecker issues that arose from Book One. I’m anxious to see what’s in store for everyone as we get into Book 3, hopefully we get some answers. Solid follow up for the series!
This series is crack - the best guilty pleasure. Quick and easy read, with more mystery and political intrigue along with magic, dragons, and a bit of a love triangle. I'm here for allllll of it.
Things are heating up for our girl, Syd! Once again, we're left with more questions than answers, but I'm intrigued and excited to see where things go... ESPECIALLY after that ending, with our noble MMC just trying to be the good guy and being hated for it. Poor Ashe... but I'm glad at least one person is remembering he's 23, and she's only 16. SERIOUSLY, why is everyone so cool with overlooking that, even Sydney herself?! Leave the underage girl and her sex life ALONE. Especially when everyone has their own agenda, and no one is willing to give her any real answers or closure about her past and her mom. She has the worst luck with adults in her life, and I feel for her, even moreso now that the one person who was supposed to always be on her side is walking away...
Edit: ALSO - ASHE, STOP TALKING TO YOUR EX-ALMOST-FIANCE.

The school year continues and Sydney has a lot on her plate! She's trying to find out more about her mother and her family history. Her partially bonded mate, Ashe, is away and she can't stop thinking about him. And she starts to develop feelings for Logan, who's always there for her! While she searches for answers, she uncovers incidents from her family's past that make her question everything she believed was true. Will the truth set her free or will it destroy her? Exciting and imaginative, Over Easy is the second book in the Dragon Born Academy series. Sydney is a lovable and dynamic heroine and I admired her confidence and determination!
I received both this book and Book 1 (Cracked Open) as ARCs for review. It was a quick read, and I felt underwhelmed. The story was chock-full of tropes, and there wasn't a healthy relationship to be found anywhere. The focus of the story - the investigation - was never resolved (I realize it's probably going to be resolved in book 3), and it culminated in an action sequence that just...sort of...ended.
It is a stereotypical middle book, wedged between an interesting book 1 and a climactic book 3, a lull serving as filler. If you like procedural stories, magical schools, and dragons, you'll probably like it, but it isn't a shining example of the genre.
In this book Sydney discover that Dragonborn schemes and agenda are more complex and subjective that she thoughts. I like that the prologue and epilogue present the point of view of Ashe. He appears to be more human and compassionate even if he behave like a jerk sometimes. I have to say that I hated him several times in this book. He takes decision for Sydney believing that because the age gap she's unable to understand the Dragonborn world but sometimes that's him who acts like a child! Sydney gets close to Logan and we can't blame her. He's here for her but I can't stop to suspect that he has his own agenda.
I thought this book flowed seamlessly from book one. It was well written and the story and characters were well developed. I love the character personalities and watching the relationships change and evolve. The story had action, suspense, intrigue, emotion, hot chemistry and romance. I look forward to the next book and would advise to read the books in order. I’d highly recommend this book.
NB: This book has a cliffhanger type ending so please don’t read if you don’t like them (wait until book 3 is released).
The story is intriguing and very interesting, but it feels like I’ve hated every single one of the characters in this book at some point or other. I probably wouldn’t have given anyone a second chance here, if I’m being honest. And the patronisingly highhanded way the male characters are going about things here would probably blown my fuse more often than not. 4-5 stars but not sure if I’m liking it.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
There is legitimately something about these books that draw you in from the word go! I've actually gone back and am rereading book 1 now just to keep myself primed for book 3! Keep it up T.L. But then again you've never been one to disappoint!
Honestly...if you need a new author or are looking for something different go through everything that T.L. has, you won't be sorry about it!
Love love love this book hate that I need to wait til Feb for the next one oh well lol. Personally I was on an emotional rollercoaster with this story first time reading this author will definitely be looking at more of her work I was gripped the full time . again I really can't wait til Feb I was even reading out loud to my husband about the book that's when he knows that I really Like the book xxxx
Sydney has many questions: who is her real father, what happened to her mother and is she really dead ? She finds her real father, but other dragon born are trying to control or get control of her. So much intrigue. Ashe wants her to be able to choose for herself.
An entertaining and very appropriate next step for the Dragon Born Academy story as seen through the eyes of the MFC, Sydney. She has learned so much more but many mysteries remain as well as dangers. Ashe is mostly doing the right thing except what he says at the end. Looking forward to the next one. Please keep up the good writing, T.L.
I love the books. They are easy to read and entertaining. I like the character development and the story progression. The only thing I dislike, which is actually good for the writer, is that each book doesn't truly resolve our characters issues. Like life, things resolve only to get worse. So, a Kindle box set please!! That is my request.
Great read! So the second story about Sydney , Ashe, and the Dragonborn is just as interesting as the first. Keeps you hanging on to your seat waiting to see what happens next! Very intriguing and can't wait for the next one! Received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review
Book #2 in this series, and it did not disappoint! This has quickly become my favorite series this year. Great characters and a fantastic story that pulls you in and keeps you hooked. I find myself at the end with more questions. I can’t wait for the next one!
I am never a fan of dragon shifters, this series is so fresh and so different I gave it a try. Boy, I was not disappointed. The author did an amazing job with it. Can’t wait for hard boiled.
Great second book in the series, absolutely perfectly done! I cannot wait for the next book in the series to be released. Kept my interest the entire time, and pages kept turning well into the night... Well Done!
I loved reading Over Easy.. It was a really exciting to read although that lending threw me for a loop.. I didn't see it coming.. I wanted to scream just like the main character.. my heart broke for her.
I'm hoping that the scenario changes for the better in Book 3. I can't wait to read it
I made it to about 60% of the book but the insecurities about EVERYTHING was too much ofr. I loved the premise of the storyline but the main character Sydney is annoying and insecure.
