"Reincarnated As My Husband's Mistress" in English via Webtoon, where I'm current to episode 35. This has it all, the romance, the historical setting, a mystery, gorgeous art. I run to read it, everytime it updates. Excited to see where it goes this year.
⭐️ 1.25/5 Beautiful art wasted on a terrible story
At first glance, Reincarnated as My Husband’s Mistress promises a gripping fantasy romance full of betrayal, secrets, and identity twists, but what I got instead was a tangled mess of confusion, nonsensical plotting, and frustrating character choices.
Adrienne Trovica, the Grand Duchess of the Rhonta Empire, dies suddenly and wakes up in the body of her husband’s mistress, Bleiah Acacia. That alone sounds like a juicy setup for drama and revenge. But right from the start, the execution collapses under its own chaos. The “I remember nothing” routine drags on endlessly, and the reincarnation concept makes no logical sense, it’s not even reincarnation, it’s some random soul swap that’s never properly explained.
By Chapter 15, I was already stunned: turns out Noevian, the “loving husband,” poisoned Adrienne. 🫠 And yet, the story somehow makes her too passive to react in any meaningful way. Every revelation, from mistaken identities to secret letters, feels forced rather than earned. Adrienne’s confusion is infuriating, and the more she uncovers, the less sense it all makes.
Around the mid-point, things spiral completely. Everyone is deceiving, plotting, or seducing someone else: Noevian steals Adrienne from Rhodnes, Rhodnes tries to steal her back, the Crown Princess wants Rhodnes, and even the maid wants Noevian. It becomes an exhausting love pentagon with zero emotional payoff. The diary subplot and the endless mysteries only add layers of unnecessary complication instead of clarity.
Then comes the avalanche, spies, kidnappings, lost twin sisters, secret identities, necrophilia (yes, that happens), and a palace basement full of frozen dead people in capsules. By that point, I was reading just to see how much more absurd it could get. Every character is either evil, stupid, or both. Even the father, Duke Pireta, is a misogynistic wreck who abandons his daughter simply because she was born with magic and therefore was the official heir of the Pireta Duchy and not the firstborn son. He is resentful of the matriarchal legacy of the Pireta´s and wants his bloodline to overthrow the official family bloodline (because he isn't a Pireta by birth but by marriage when he married the late Duchess Pireta).
The last chapters try to tie everything together with revelations, false prophecies, and a “Saint” send by the Gods to save us all, but none of it redeems the story’s lack of coherence. The writing jumps from plot point to plot point without emotional continuity, and no amount of last-minute explanations can fix that.
The only redeeming quality here is the art, clean lines, elegant styling, and good character design. But the story itself? A total waste of time.
In the end, Reincarnated as My Husband’s Mistress is an overcomplicated, melodramatic mess that mistakes chaos for depth. I finished it purely out of stubbornness, not enjoyment.
By far, one of my all time favorite manhwas/webtoons. Another reincarnation romantasy genre, but with twists and turns on every chapter and nothing is what it seems.
In this story, Adrienne is the Grand Duchess who’s married to the handsome and debonair, the Grand Duke. Although Adrienne’s life appears to be flawless on the outside, at home she suffers from a mysterious illness that keeps her bedridden. Flash forward to a few months later, Adrienne finds herself awakening in another body and attending her own funeral!
At this point, Adrienne’s life is turned upside down as she assumes the body of Bleah, the Countess of Acacia. But there’s more. Under Bleah’s identity, Adrienne soon discovers that her so-called beloved husband actually had a secret mistress and it’s none other than Bleah. Furthermore, a stranger, known as the second prince, is found grieving at her gravesite, claiming to be her first love. However, the only problem is that Adrienne has no memory of this mysterious man.
This is a wonderful story based on revenge and a second chance at love. There are several twists and turns at every corner, which makes this tale all the more delightful. Highly recommend and well deserving of five stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
I picked this webtoon just because I was bored. In the beginning, a lot of things didn't make sense and felt useless, but as the story continued, the twists were crazy and the execution was amazing too. I liked the dynamics in the book and loved how, one by one, all the villains were served right what they deserved. Loved the happy ending!
