Her first kiss. Her first love. Her first heartbreak.

Graham was all those things.

Now, twelve years later, Natalie has to face old wounds when she is forced to ask Graham for help finding her missing students.

Graham has never forgotten Natalie, or their first kiss. The sketch in his office―the one she drew of a Nighthawk, the one he named his business after―reminds him daily of the woman that got away. The life he could have had.

Natalie will need to decide if she’s willing to risk her heart again, but only if she can convince him heroes can have relationships and still save lives.

When Natalie goes missing, he discovers his inner demons are not alone in conniving to destroy their budding relationship. Graham will call on every skill he’s ever learned to save her. Will he find his heart’s guiding star in time? Or will they both be trapped in the darkness forever?

Natalie’s Nighthawk is the first book in the Nighthawk Search and Rescue series. A standalone, full length, second chance novel with no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a guaranteed happily ever after.

Warning: this book contains scenes discussing domestic abuse which might be unsettling for some readers.

Amanda Zook has been an avid romance reader since middle school and has finally decided to liberate the stories that live in her head. After growing up in the Sweetest Place on Earth (Hershey, Pennsylvania) she attended college at a small liberal arts school where she met the love of her life. They spent the first 20 years of their marriage on the Jersey Shore (no, not the MTV reality show), before moving halfway across the country.

Amanda now lives in the Southwest corner of the mitten state on the shores of Lake Michigan (no sharks, no salt, no problem).

She is a wife, a mother of teenage twin girls (even though she is aghast that her children dislike reading and pizza) and can now add published author to her list of achievements.

I thought this story started off strong. It captured my attention and it had me wondering why they couldn’t be together after the storm. But for me, personally, I do not like a story that fluctuates to the past, back to the present then to the past. You get the picture. I can’t ever get into these types of stories. So it doesn’t really have anything to do with the constant of the book, more to do with my personal reading preferences.
Because of that, maybe you should ignore my review.

I received a copy to write an honest review.
The book did nothing for me.
It had a very slow start I’ve read 500 pages and I’m not reading it till the end.
It goes on and on about the rescue thing.
It was to much, I know it’s the story line but I don’t want to join a team.
And the couple did nothing for me, no chemistry, nothing then a shared kiss 12 years ago.
I’m sorry but not my kind of book.

Great introduction to a new series. Has all the things I look for when picking a new read: reconnecting friends, friends to lovers, personal conflicts, surviving trauma, mystery, unexpected plot twists, and drama. I was pleasantly surprised how this book grabbed me and kept me enthralled throughout. This is the first book by Amanda Zook that I have read, but it won’t be the last.
This is the first book in the series Nighthawk Search & Rescue. It focuses on Natalie and Graham, former childhood friends and neighbors, reconnecting after Maddie, Natalie’s sister, takes Natalie to Nighthawk Search & Rescue to get them to help find two of Natalie’s students who went missing.
Natalie and Graham were childhood friends who grew up together but did not socialize with each other as teens. One day, while in high school, Graham gave Natalie a ride home. They wound up spending the afternoon together talking about anything and everything. Natalie received her first kiss that day. That day changed their lives in many ways. When they arrived home they watched a tornado destroy they neighborhood. They had no more contact with each other until that day twelve years later when Maddie (Natalie’s sister) brought her to the rescue company owned by Graham and his brother David. The plot flowed so easily: from the reunion of the two former friends, their new developing relationship, sharing their past traumas with each other and the challenges they faced were so well written. It kept me guessing and even surprised me a couple times. Learning about what search & rescue workers do and the physical and psychological effects it has on it’s workers was an added bonus.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series and learn the journeys of the rest of the “Nighthawk family” including Natalie’s sister Maddie and Graham’s brother David.

A story that has you relishing all the sweet, adoring moments between the characters and leave you feeling completely sated! This book is devour-able in one sitting, wrapped all nice with good characters. juicy plot and a small town romance that can give you all the butterflies you need. The good part is that, there is nothing too complex about this plot, but it can also be a con. There is nothing special and outstanding about this story. There is nothing that can say "grab me" when talking about the plot - it is just quite predictable. Definitely an ordinary story, with an ordinary misunderstanding and an ordinary ending. This is one of those go-to, feel happy books.

okay, wait..

Natalie and Graham met all the way back in high-school, shared a kiss then was interrupted by a tornado that tore through their town and their everyday lives as they know it. Their reunion happens 12 years later and they soon come to have their it's always been you moment. No, yeah - the author makes it distinct! They are soulmates. Nothing else.

There chemistry just felt so forced, little development because the book states pretty obviously that they are meant for each other!

You read this book knowing that these are the main characters and well.. hah! That's it! The plot is straightforward and there is no twist or turn that can keep you on your toes.

so, to read or not to read?

This small town romance is a one way street to absolute satisfaction and cheeky happy endings. This is one of those books you pick up to get all the sweet moments and ultimate romance feels. Don't expect too much if you do pick it up, don't expect riveting action or suspense, but do expect the one track course to two always-meant-to-be lovers finding their happy ending.

Thank you Netgalley and team for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

I am always on the lookout for new authors to add to my library's collection. This book is the first of the new Nighthawks Search and Rescue series. The book started off well and grabbed my attention, but I got to a point where I just was not interested in what was going to happen Graham and Natalie. While I forced myself to read until the end...I almost gave up. I personally am not a huge fan of the past/present back and forth. Yes, some information is needed to show why we are at this point, but throwing that in with world building at the same time just drags this story down. I will still give the second book in the series a shot, just in case.

I was given a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

This was a great start to a brand new series! I loved the premise behind the storyline, how action-packed it was and of course the happy ending! I would have given it 5 stars as I loved the characters but the MMC, Graham, let me down towards the end of the book. I don't want to reveal too much but his actions toward the FMC were unforgivable in my opinion—but then I'm a crab and like to hold grudges (ha ha). Great read with plenty of emotional ups and downs and I look forward to the rest of the series.

From the cover I was expecting more smut but I really enjoyed the storyline and loved the characters.

The Nighthawks were one big family and all looked out for each other which gave it a lovely feel. Even though each of them went through some tough times with the love and support of each other they were able to get through it.

I guessed where the storyline was going but I still enjoyed seeing how it all panned out.

Quick, easy read

This was my first book by this author. I enjoyed Graham and Natalie, as well as the secondary characters. However, there wasn’t much depth. A quick, easy read but predictable.

Well, wow. I was so completely obsessed with this book and author by the time I finished this story that I might never recover.

I completely loved this story, which is surprising because generally I'm not a fan of nonlinear storytelling. Telling the truth, I borderline hate it, but everything else about this story was beyond epic.

The characters were sympathetic and well crafted. The little quirks they each possessed were perfect to create a 3D being on page. Each were consistent and precise.

The story itself was also excellent. I loved it so much that I put my phone down several times to read instead of browsing Facebook. Seriously, the emotion was *chefs kiss*. There were several times where I was griping my poor kindle so tight I thought I'd snap it. Very well done!

There were a few narrative issues, the characters referring to their memories while in flashback occurred a few times. There were also a few grammar problems. But none of those issues were horrible enough to bring me out of the story and stop the great narrative.

I did call the bad guy very early on, but after reading as many books as I have it takes a lot (and I mean a lot) to hide the bad guy from me. LOL!

All in all if you can forget and forgive the little narrative issues and few grammar mistakes, this book is well worth your time. I really, really enjoyed it, and will probably read it over again. The journey Amanda Zook takes you on is completely unforgettable and she'll have both my undying devotion and eyeballs for as long as she writes.

I was an ARC reviewer for Natalie's Nighthawk, a book by author Amanda Zook. This is Book 1 in the Nighthawk Search and Rescue Series. My review is based on my own opinions, and I was not coerced or compensated for it.

From the moment I read the blurb, I realised that I would be on an emotional trip that could draw raw feelings from me. I did not expect to be invested emotionally in Natalie Giannini and Graham Whitaker's lives.

Natalie and Graham past would collide again after 12 years. Like the natural disaster they survived, their complex relationship will face a number of challenges and twists and turns.

Natalie goes looking for Graham, because Lucy and Colin two of her students from Lake Haven Elementry are missing and no one can find them. She's believes Graham and his company can help her find her missing students.

The novel has challenges that I never anticipated, will they solidify their friendship from years before when they reunite or will it destroy any chance they once had.

I was suspended on the edge of my seat and I tried to predict every move. I couldn't have been more wrong because I wasn't able to figure out what happened next.

Loved the plot, the suspense, story, development of characters, placement of words, raw emotions, enormous emotional pull.

I cannot wait for the rest of this series. I would recommend this book by Amanda Zook, if this is anything to go by Nighthawk Search and Rescue series will be a hit.

Natalie has always had a thing for Graham. They were neighbors when they were kids and become friends. As they got older they moved in different clicks at school. Graham was the super popular athlete while Natalie was the art nerd. One day while Natalie was walking home Graham offered her a ride. They stopped at a spot by the lake that would become very important to both of them. It is where Graham changed his idea of what kind of girl he wanted and where Natalie cemented in her mind that Graham was the one for her. They shared a kiss then started home when a tornado struck. They watched in horror as it ripped through their neighborhood. Now as adults Natalie is an art teacher at an elementary school and she needs to hire Graham’s company Nighthawk to help find the two missing students. Nighthawk was created by Graham and his brother David and a lot of it had to deal with that fateful day that he shared a kiss with Natalie. Now that they are meeting again after twelve years they noticed that they both have the same feelings from high school and now they are even stronger. Graham is determined to date Natalie and see where things go. Has they do Natalie has a lot of unfortunate events happen to her that are becoming serious. It seems like someone is after her. Will they be able to find who it is and maintain their growing relationship?

Natalie and Graham's story is the first in the series, but I read three others (Annika, Sutton, and Sophie) first. All the books do well as standalones, though the Nighthawk and Jolene families all play good-sized secondary roles in each book.

This book, about one of Nighthawk SAR's founders, offers us the second chances and friends-to-lovers (sort of) tropes, with suspense thrown in. While it definitely is romantic suspense, more time is spent on Natalie abs Graham's rediscovery of each other and their new relationship. It's all very romantic, and Graham does and says all the things a good book boyfriend should, but it can feel a little repetitive and shmaltzy at times. In general, I liked Natalie more, and Graham should thank his lucky stars that she doesn't hold a grudge. Without saying too much at risk of a spoiler, Graham has a few things to work out before he truly deserves Natalie. He seems ready for the challenge, but his actions still made me wary.

The suspense is okay but not at all hard to figure out. Even so, I don't want to spoil anything. I'll just leave it at that.

Overall, I like this series, and I wouldn't hesitate to pick up any other book in this series or by this author.

I received a copy of this book for free. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!

It's boring. 38% and nothing has happened. The rescue of the kids takes like two chapters, but at least half of that is spent on flashbacks. It was all over the place. It felt repetitive because we kept going back to the same events but not quite, and each time we got another drop of story, then back to the present and back again for another drop of the past, and so on. It was annoying. And the worst is that most of those drops of the past we keep getting flashbacks for are completely irrelevant for the story. And also most of them were from one afternoon, the author just kept milking it for all it was worth, and that was the extent of their shared history. One freaking afternoon. Also there's exposition that constantly breaks the pace, endless descriptions of places we spend little to no time at, and some repetitive inner dialogue from both MCs. He was oh, so embarrassed by the many, many, MANY awards he had (something the author felt the need to repeat constantly, lest you think he's vain, or something), and he thinks she's so special, and he was afraid she wasn't single and that's why he didn't contact her, but she's so special, and he doesn't talk about his awards… rinse and repeat. Same with her: he's so humble, he's so nice, why didn't he contact me, he's so humble, he's so nice… I don't want to keep reading the same thing over and over. DNF 40%.

This is book one in the Nighthawk Search and Rescue series. It's a great start to what I believe is going to be an entertaining series. I really liked this book. It's fast paced and steamy with plenty of suspense. Graham has dedicated his life to helping people who are missing or lost and owns a search and rescue company with his brother. He's seen some really bad things over the years which has left him with some deep emotional scars. Natalie is an elementary school art teacher and has some deep scars too. Natalie and Graham have known each other since they were kids. When they were in high school, they shared a special afternoon that ended with a kiss. They lost touch when Graham's family had to move but they never forgot about each other. They meet again as adults, the spark and connection is still there but it soon becomes clear that someone is out to get Natalie. Can they figure out who and why before it's too late?

Amanda is a new author for me, but one I will definitely follow on. This book is based around search and rescue, and our author takes the reader into this world explaining with detail – but just the right amount - about their training facility and the courses they teach to anyone needing it. Both the main characters have had tragic events in their lives which they’ve come through with help. There’s plenty of suspense, romance, suspense, action and although you know who the person is behind the stalking, the drama slows down a little then we take that roller coaster ride that changes the direction of the couple and the story. I enjoyed travelling back in time to understand Natalie and Graham’s backgrounds and then coming back to the now.... just as you think this couple are on track to a happy ending, there’s a gasp moment but their friends, family and team to help them through.

A great debut novel and already have a note in my diary to get the follow on book.

Thank you NetGalley and author collective 20 for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

3/5 stars

Natalie and Graham are a twice again high school love story I would say. Although it’s very loosely twice again since they really only had a moment in high school. The story was sweet and had an interesting plot. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was terrorizing Natalie.

I will say that I struggled with how fast Natalie and Graham went. Natalie had some past trauma but with Graham it felt like it didn’t exist. Along with that their connection almost felt fake since it happened so fast. They hung out once during high school and they were in love. Although they never made an effort to get in contact in 12 years and then boom all in. It was a little whip lash and was hard to invest in the characters since it happened so fast. The connection didn’t pull the reader in since it happened so fast.

Overall this was a cute love story. I think Natalie and Graham as separate characters were flushed out well. Them together was a little more blurry. They kind of skated past issues and had the happily ever after.

Natalie's Nighthawk (Nighthawk Search and Rescue series, #1) by Amanda Zook.

A quick easy read. The Kindle edition has 294 pages. Nice enough story. For me too much detail about the search and rescue aspect of the story, not enough depth of the characters. Be aware that the time line of the book has got flash backs to 12 years in the past, some readers find that annoying.
I found the story line too predictable; this story has been told so many times, the guy with the hero complex and the woman with some emotional trauma, I was hoping for more .......something. This book is the set up for a series with enough characters introduced here for at least 6 to 8 more books. Based on the many 4- and 5-star ratings, I would suggest you go to amazon.com; request a sample of the book, read the first 4 chapters and see if this book is for you. For me this is a 2.5 star read.

Graham was Natalie's first kiss, first love, and her first heartbreak. Neither have gotten over the other. She liked to draw pictures especially birds. Their senior year of school he saw her walking home from school. He stopped to pick her up because they were neighbors. They went to get ice cream and went to his special place to eat it. When they started home a tornado came through. His house was completely destroyed, but in his family wasn't hurt. She found her sister and she was hurt. Graham's family moved away and didn't come back. Years later Natalie was a teacher and two children was lost. Natalie and her sister went to ask Graham to help look because he owned Night hawk Search and Rescue Company. She was the one that got away. He help her find them and his coworker got jealous because she had her sights on him and started trying to hurt Natalie

Amazing:
This book had it all. It drew me in from the beginning and now I can't wait to read future books in the series to see what becomes of the rest of the Nighthawk members.
I appreciated that this story had a depth to it and it dealt with some quite tragic events, however the tone was still one of hope and promise. I thought the suspense element was well done and there was plenty of nail biting action interspersed with tender moments.I thought Natalie and Graham made a wonderful couple and you could really feel the emotion and bond between them.
This was an outstanding debut novel and I look forward to seeing what else this talented author comes up with.

What a great start to a series, so engaging. It is fast paced, with all kinds of action, and a good balance of steaminess. Every time you think the drama is calming down, unexpected things happen to change the direction of the story. The author did a great job explaining why they never contacted each other in that time, as well as connecting the past to the present. I love the symbolism in the book, especially that they both needed the light they could offer each other to move away from painful experiences. One of my favorite parts was the ending and what it means for Nighthawks future. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like romance with suspense.

For the most part, I enjoyed this story by a "new-to-me" author and I found it engaging. The story kind of lost me in the final third of the book. Graham was a hero, that's what the team he created did, they rescued people. But he lost it one night and took it out on Nat and was downright cruel to her-she has her own issues she was dealing with. Then so much was going on and it made it a bit implausible and over the top. I liked his pet name for Nat also, but it was used too much. There were a lot of good secondary character and I look forward to continuing with the series because I think the author has a good writing style.

Nighthawk Security doesn’t disappoint!

I first read Amanda Zoom in the new Beyond Courage anthology. I enjoyed it so much I found this series. Wow. She does not disappoint! Starting with a bang and ending with a bang. Literally. Not going to give too many spoilers but Natalie and Graham are amazing. Natalie has loved Graham since she was a child. Tragedy tore them apart. And a tragedy brings them back together. But someone wants to keep them apart. Natalie picks up a stalker, and Graham has to deal with his demons. As a first in series, Amanda keeps the story moving while she introduces us to her new world. I have already downloaded the whole series and can’t wait to explore more of her books! 12/10 recommend!

I could not put this book down. Read it in less than two days. The subject of this book, search and rescue, was something I had not given much thought to. Amanda managed to take the reader into this world where you learned about their training facility and the courses they teach to anyone desiring further knowledge. But, as in some of the first responders cases, not everything went right. Those days left a test of the soul.

Amanda wrote of these times with honesty and heart.
Loved this book and can not wait for the next ones.

Fast-paced romantic suspense and a host of characters I couldn't get enough of.
The romance had me hooked. From Natalie and Graham's innocent, short time together as teenagers to the impact that day had on their present-day lives was so engrossing for me. Graham was really sweet in how he reacted after seeing her after so many years and the chemistry between them sizzled off the page. The suspense element was more predictable but enjoyable nonetheless.
I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.

Graham & Natalie
This is my first book by this author and I loved it. I stayed up way past my bedtime to read this books. I didn't want to put it down. This book is a small town romance. Old friends reuniting. The only thing that I would say I wasn't a fan of was that it was wayyyy to easy to guess who the stalker was. I figured it out early on in the book. I wish it was a little hard to figure it out but other than that I loved the book. I will be reading the rest of the books in this series.
