Jack Ryder is a private detective in Greenwich Village. It is 1943 and Ryder has to deal with a Nazi spy and a man who fell in love with a woman he saw on a train platform. For the first time since his wife’s death he thinks he’s in love. And then a rival comes along.
This is the sixth Jack Ryder book, and it starts in an odd way: Jack is a private detective and is asked by the US government to murder a Nazi spy. Just why the US government cannot do this themselves is curious, and they don't even pay a fee (apart from not locking Jack up, but if they could do that on no grounds, why can't they with a spy?). Anyway, is you may guess from the title, Jack is in danger. Unfortunately, the book is told in the first person so we know Jack can't die until the last page, and not even then if the author wants book 7. Jack is somewhat light-hearted, and the author is not that interested in clever detection; basically Jack does a lot of footwork, and the cases, and there is a bit of a tangle of them, are more or less only demanding of such footwork, and some helpful friends in the underworld. The writing style is rather light-hearted, so it is easy to read. Jack is a well-defined character, the rest are a bit murky, which is what they should be so we can suspect them. The action is plausible, although I think Jack should have died the way he carries on. To summarise, it is a pleasant crime story that portrays something of the life in New York during the war.
Graveyard Bound is one of the best mysteries I've read in a while! Graveyard Bound is a crime detective novel featuring a thriller story and a romance element, as well as emotional themes that will appeal to a wide audience. This is one of those books that you won't be able to put down until you've finished it. The narrative is truly wonderful, and you'll be anxious to flip the pages until you're done, thanks to Jack Ryder's many twists and turns.
Knots behind each and every incident keeps us remain with the book, it's just amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this crime detective book, the author doesn't fail to impress me through this amazing mystery. This will be the best choice for people who love crime detective fiction.
I love detective novels, and "Graveyard Bound" by Lawrence J. Epstein is being added to my treasury of detectives. Ryder is just one of those characters that you cannot help but feel connected to. I realize that this is not the first book in the series, but it is the first book that has introduced me to Jack Ryder. Not to mention that the time frame in which the story takes place is not one I read about too often unless there is some sort of time travel gimmick. Ryder is no innocent flower and he certainly has plenty of flaws, but he is relatable. How many people in this world can honestly say they are a paragon? Very few. Being tasked to kill someone, by the FBI no less, as well as investigating for his actual clients brings on the mystery, the plot twists that we might not see coming. There is even a bit of romance thrown into the mix and I feel this gives the story a realistic quality. I love the wording and descriptions, the emotions portrayed, the acceptance, and knowing where the character stands and where they could go from there. I want to read the other books in this series, I loved this one that much! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good thriller as well as detectives.
Jack Ryder is back at it again! This is the 6th book in the Jack Ryder series; the cases just keep coming to Jack. This time he is hired by the FBI to murder a dangerous nazi spy. The series is set in 1943 and Ryder is the best in his field. Cases seem to rain down on Jack which sometimes can become a little overwhelming for him but he carries on anyway. Author Lawrence J. Epstein does an outstanding job at bringing Jack to life. The book is told in Jack's point of view as he lives his adventures. The writing style is easy flowing and easy to comprehend. I recommend the Jack Ryder series to all mystery enthusiasts as it is an amazing series to follow and it will capture any reader. The series can be read as individual books or as a whole series, either option will set Jack Ryder as a savvy and entertaining detective!
Jack Ryder is back! But only this time he found himself joggling between a case hunting down a Nazi he was supposed to kill and find a mystery woman his client fell in love with, his feelings stepped in, and he has an extremely hard choice to make. This is a remarkable story that will keep the reader at the edge of their seat. It is not my first time reading one of the Epstein books, and he does not disappoint! This book is a little bit shorter than the rest of them, but it is full of surprises and unexpected turns that blow my mind. Jack Ryder, the main character is, as always, very well-detailed and so are the other roles that are always introduced at the beginning, so you get to know them from the start. The story itself is quite easy to follow and has like two different stories going on. I can't wait for the next Ryder story!
I have been following this series and I think that each instalment is excellent. “Graveyard Bound” written by Lawrence J. Epstein is book 6 in the series “The Jack Ryder Mysteries” which has the cleverest detective as its protagonist. This time the Private Eye will have to help the FBI in catching a dangerous Nazi. Meanwhile he will also fight for love. This book is very well-written and the ability of the writer can be seen in how the chapters are composed to raise suspense and to inevitable attract readers. It is not very extent, it has a few more of a hundred pages but the story is developed thoroughly through detailed descriptions and interesting dialogues. This book is a real treat and I highly recommend it.
Lawrence J. Epstein is a master! I like his books a lot. As soon as I start one, I am instantly involved in the story and really invested in the characters. “Graveyard Bound” is another good example of this.
It is the sixth book in the “The Jack Ryder Mysteries” series. This piece of writing is set in the year 1943 and tells the story of Jack Ryder, a private detective, whose work takes him to different adventures: kill a Nazi, reunite a man with a lover and a lot more.
All in all, I highly recommend this book, especially for mysteries fans, like me. I had an amazing time with this read.
Graveyard Bound is Book six of The Jack Ryder Mysteries series. Written by distinguished English professor, Lawrence J. Epstein, this is one of those stories that stays with us long before we finished reading them. The story is set in New York in 1943 and it revolves around a detective named Jack Ryder. As I carried on reading the story, I felt an attachment to him. I did not want him to get hurt and kept wanting him to succeed at his goal. The author wrote and created this character very well, and I really appreciated that. I would definitely recommend this story to anyone who likes crime and historical thrillers!
This is another great story written by the talented Lawrence J. Epstein. This author fascinates me; I always like his books, whether short or long. In this case, Graveyard Bound is the sixth book in the Jack Ryder Mysteries series which I follow from beginning to end. The setting, New York in the 1940s, and the characters are the best. Not to mention the twists that got me reading at the edge of my sofa. For all these I like this series, it has always something exciting to read about. I believe that Jack is in his best installment here. I recommend this book to those fans of the genre, but especially to those who have never read anything by the author; this last book is a gem.
I never get enough of The Jack Ryder Mysteries Books! I am always keen to read about this interesting character, a lonely widower and private detective of New York in the 40s, who always has a riddle to solve, a woman or a victim to save and a wound to heal.
“Graveyard Bound” is the sixth book in the series, by author Lawrence J. Epstein, whose prose is not only clean and lean, which makes the novel understandable for the aimed readers; but also, it masterfully delves in the suspense, in an amazing and in-depth plot that will leave them on the edge of the seat with every turn of the page!
A must-read mystery story! Whenever I read one story written by Lawrence J. Epstein I cannot put it down. I declare myself a fan of his detective stories. “Graveyard Bound” is another marvellous Jack Ryder story. I found everything catchy and engaging, from the cover to the plot. I enjoyed reading and working with Jack, as well. That is one of the bits that I like the most, feeling that I was part of the investigation and the puzzle. The written style is exquisite, and the main character is well-developed and very dynamic. So, I really recommend reading this exquisite mystery story.
Graveyard Bound is the third book I read from Lawrence Epstain, and the sixth of the series “The Jack Ryder Mysteries”.
I congratulate the author since I dare say he was able to maintain the mystery and passion to the very last book of the series. At least, this is how I felt while reading the great finale. The story did not really wear out, as I was as spellbound as in the first book I read.
Graveyard Bound gave me a great closing to a story the author created detail by detail. I am going to miss the witty characters and the gorgeous settings.
I believe this work is perfect for thriller lovers.
This one took me a bit of time to really get into the story, due to it being the sixth in a series and my first read from the author, but I was pleasantly surprised with the author's detailed presentation of a suspenseful mystery read. Suspense and mystery are my favorite genres, especially when the events can turn quickly or become very unpredictable, which I was happy to see that this one was perfectly fitting for my taste. The action was plentiful and authentic throughout the story, with detailed scene depiction and well-developed characters that made the story even better. I especially liked that this novel had multiple mysteries that are working to be solved throughout the story, leaving plenty of room and time for becoming totally invested in the character's lives.
This was definitely a book with remarkable twists and turns that had me turning the pages. Graveyard Bound by Lawrence J. Epstein has a very interesting storyline. It centers around the main character Jack Ryder, a New York City private detective who was tasked to kill a dangerous Nazi and at the same time, was aiding a client with a woman that he later on became connected to.
It's my first time reading a book written by this author and I can definitely say that he is very good in this genre. He aced the action parts, making a reader feel the rush of anticipation as of what is bound to happen in the next chapters. I enjoyed the ride when reading this book. The plot was not perfect but the important thing was I found myself engaged in its story.
Graveyard Bound is the sixth book in the Jack Ryder Mysteries, written by Lawrence J. Epstein. I've read previous works from this author and it was not a surprise that I liked this one so much, because the previous ones were really good, too. Set in New York in the year 1943, this is the story of Jack Ryder, a private detective whose help is needed by the FBI. The story in which he is caught is very interesting and got me reading at the edge of my seat. I read it so eagerly that once I noticed, I was about to finish the book; it is not a long read though. I recommend this installment and the previous ones as well.
Thriller in genre, Graveyard Bound has been excellently written by author Epstein. It is the 6th installment in The Jack Ryder Mysteries series and, after having read the previous ones, this one has not disappointed me. The twists and turns present in this book are brilliant and extremely well crafted. The fact that the author has resorted to easy vocabulary and grammar and that he has penned the tale using the first person singular, make the story easy to follow. The dialogues embedded in it have also played their parts here. Every fan of detective stories will fall in love with this tale in the same way I did. Definitely, this has been a great addition to my kindle shelf! Loved it!
Another Jack Ryder mystery in a string of good books. This time, we follow Jack along as he is asked to help the FBI with an assassination. He also ends up helping a man find love and then must compete with another man for Ruth’s heart and affections. Jack is juggling a lot in this book; will he be able to handle it all? As with previous Jack Ryder books, I found the writing to be a pleasant experience and an easy way to pass a few hours reading. The author still does a good job with the mysteries and action and the overarching plot and theme does not feel tired or overworked, even 6 books into the series.
I have to say author Lawrence J. Epstein always deleites the readers with a brilliant and unique narration. Like in his previous books on this series, he set this one in the 1940's, making the story very attractive to me.
I also would like to mention that I think this is one of my favorites reads from him. I can tell the author put a lot of thought and time in the narration and the development of the character.
Although "Graveyard Bound" is a historical thriller crime, it has some colourful condiments that suit perfectly with the narration and adds up a little more drama in the story.
November 1943. Jack Ryder is approached by the FBI to kill a Nazi, an Anerican citizen. It must be done publically and for Ryder’s sake for him not to be caught. Meanwhile a client wants him to find a woman he saw at a railway station and fell in love with. Later he meets an emotionally damaged veteran who he tried to help. An entertaining story
