Karin Makos lives a lie. Genetically engineered from birth and raised in a scientific compound to gain unnatural powers, she has since escaped and built a new life hidden from those who created her. For her, the chance to pilot a small-time scrounging vessel to remote corners of space is the dream. After years on the run with her sister and enduring the constant paranoia of living planet-side, going off-radar gives her exactly what she wants: freedom.

In a single night, that dream is shattered.

A system-wide attack decimates humanity, and the few insubstantial clues they have point straight back into her past and the horrors it holds. Plagued by strange dreams of her sister and a sense of growing danger, Karin and the crew of the Nemina must race desperately across space to find their loved ones—and answers.

The Eurynome Code The Complete Series A Space Opera Box Set by K. Gorman

This quality adventure opens with Karin Makos and her friends and crewmates on the Nemina. They’re working hard at a deep-version of antiquing when an unexpected, crippling attack takes place on the solar system. The aftermath reveals that Karin and her sister Nomiki have a dark past that accounts for their having some...unique attributes.

The Eurynome Code is a space opera answer to Friedrich Nietzsche’s famous observation that if you stare into the abyss long enough, it stares back — and in this case, starts reading to you in a threatening tone from something Carl Jung wrote. The ethically-challenged, delusion-drenched gene-splicers who created Karin, Nomiki, and a veritable pantheon of others spent way too long with the abyss, which is now striking back in a terrifying series of ways. Karin has to survive long enough to go from having the worst superpower ever (“basically a human flashlight”) to realizing her destiny as our last, best hope.

This was an awesome read. K. Gorman's writing is solid, and she's created a space opera that's flavored with horror and mythology -- sophisticated touches that are enough to keep things interesting without bogging the story down. There is a lot of late 20th/early 21st century terminology floating around, including some memorable uses of "dude" which keep things grounded, though.
Throw in some strong female characters who are challenged to adapt and overcome as the world is turned upside, political skullduggery (and just banally-amoral business-as-usual) and the possible end of the world as we know it, and you have a series that's stays engaging and interesting from start to finish.

Editor

It's hard to believe, I actually finished reading this one. Six books? Yeah, I know, it's way too long. It's so long that by the end of the story the author and I were sick of the whole thing. I finished just so I could write this review.

So, so many things made it past the editor. I can hear the books screaming; 'get me an editor.' 'Please, won't somebody edit me? I'm a good story.' The author did a pretty good job of character development of the core actors, but the author spent much too much time describing... everything. This series could have been 2 long books, without the embellishments. I was reminded of those term papers of a certain required length; a thousand words and you've only got 900.

The last book was rushed. I don't know if the editor was on your back for copy, or you really were, like me, tired of the story. The end of the series felt like the 'Big Brushoff'.

Lastely, two things: always try to keep keep your timeline constant through All SIX books and don't add things where there was nothing before (a hallway bridge and hatch) in book six.

I lied.
Much like this review, it's anticlimactic.

Wowie! This book drops the reader right into the action! But, ummmm... that beginning! 😟 The first couple of scenes read like a horror story! Wait, what?!?? I thought I grabbed a Space Opera 🤔... yeah... at least "Space Opera" is even part of the title! Although I wouldn't normally pick-up a horror novel, I was already immersed in the story, and I really wanted to find out what happens next, and hopefully, the tale will have a great payoff!
I would hafta say that the book is probably a bit of both Space Opera and horror, and I for one (oddly, given my aversion to horror), really enjoyed the ride!
I gotta say the ending was perhaps a bit abrupt, even cliffhangery... and where normally I might have been put out by this (especially if I actually had to wait for K Gorman to write and release book 2), that wasn't the case here, as I'd had the foresight to get the boxed set up front! So instead of being upset, I'm happily looking forward to diving right back into the foray!
What about the narrator, Andrea Emmes?.. well, "WOW" kinda' covers it! She gave a simply perfect voice performance!
If you can handle a somewhat graphic Space Opera, trust me... this is the one to get your hands on!!!

PS. Many of my reviews for this boxed set can be found under the individual titles...

Definitely money's worth

This is a tale off alternate universes, and the people who can shift between them. We start with an escapee of an orphanage that has the power of making liquid light. She's teamed up with a mysterious handsome ex soldier, and a feisty Korean with dreadlocks (now that's got to be a sight) doing archeological scavenging. The universe is suddenly invaded with mysterious shadow people who take over the body and turn people into zombies. Not dangerous zombies, just wandering, vacant people. Turns out the shadow people are from a different universe, and our orphan can cure the zombies with her light power. Then the story gets better as we find out that the orphanage is involved with the shadow people, and there are bad people trying to destroy the universe. So we accumulate some extra people with skills or powers to chase down the bad people and save the universe. Non-stop action throughout the books, and lots of book to read. This is a good buy at a much higher price.

Hard-core sci-fi for hard-core sci-fi readers.

This was one of the longest novels I have read in a long time. Generally it seems that with a novel of this length that at some point the author loses my attention with too much unnecessary info and I put it down and find something else to read. Not so with this one. It has a great ending with potential for a follow-up novel. And the author didn't really leave any loose ends for the reader to wonder about. Seriously, it took me almost three weeks to read it and I'm kinda sorry it had to end. K. Gorman, y'all did a great job with this novel and I look forward to reading some more of your work! Keep it up!

Unique Story Line

New ideas for Science fiction made me continue reading even with run on sentences, misspelled words, and oft repeated phrases. Really, how many times does one need to read about the smell of laundry softener and sweat? Be aware there is also the F- word at least once on every page.
I must admittedly say that the last book is free from all the above criticism. It reads smoothly and concludes nicely.

WOW!!! What a great series box set!!

This is an amazing and unique storyline, told by an excellent writer. I've never read this author before but you can believe I will now. Gene thereby, brainwashing and child murder! How did it all happen? How will it end? Where are the ones who survived? And all this happens in outer- space for the most part. You don't want to miss this one. Ultimate fantasy, space military and romance all in one series. Highly recommended.

I am very glad I bought this as a boxed set of the complete series, there were severe cliffhangers... which made it very easy to keep reading... and reading.... until I finished the whole thing. I found it to be very enjoyable, with interesting characters, varied world building and a few twists and turns in the storyline. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Amazing!

What an amazing idea! From children being created from DNA code to bring back the old gods and goddesses. Karin is person made in a lab with her sister. It was a crazy messed up story and brought together at the end. Even still, I had the wrong person pegged as the bad guy. Totally worth reading the whole series!

Actually a pretty good read. A bit tedious at times. Skipped over some descriptions that tended to distract. But still a good read. Will try to find more books by this author a see how Gorman matures over time.

This series kept my interest all the way through. It has action romance and some laughs along with some psychological elements. Recommend for anyone that likes space opera type stories.

Too much f*******

The story line was well developed as were the characters. Way way too much f****** constantly breaking up the story line. otherwise it would have been at least a 4 maybe 5.

Good story and well developed characters

I could hardly put this series down. The story was different enough that it pulled me along. The characters were developed enough that I felt I knew them.

great set of books

The beginning it was a little slow and hard to follow the technology into a believable sense. I’m glad I stuck with the book because as it went on it went off in many different angles and became very enjoyable. I highly recommend the book to anyone.

Cursing

Way to much cursing. It was very distracting. The story would have still been great without it.

Enjoyed reading about how genetic/cyber/other dimensional worlds intersect in this one. Darkness/shadow vs. evolution/light.

Lots of plot twists

Gorman has done a great job of leading me down a pathway with little bits of comfortable plot lines then suddenly jerked the rug out from under me.
