Can we just appreciate the beauty in glory that is Yara Flor as wonder woman? I have a literally been waiting for this issue for a very long time especially since I first saw her in infinite frontier. This is one of the best first issues that DC has put out so far this year. I think that it is full of myth lore and legend and Brazilian culture that readers will definitely appreciate. It chronicles Yara going back to Brazil after an extensive period of time. I think that this serious is going to provide readers with a lot of action and a lot of intrigue and character development. And let’s just talk about how stunning the artwork is in this book. I think that this may end up being one of the best series for DC in the next year or so. I don’t see them dropping the ball when it comes to Yara as a character. I’m just really excited to be able to pick up the next issues whenever they do release.
A great start. We learn a little about Yara past and it aint so pretty. Then thrown into modern day with her and some stunning art to showcase it all. Bit confused why we're shown so many other tribes and people though.
I don't usually review single issues, but I had to review this one in the hopes that more people read it. The new Wonder Girl, Yara Flor, is one of the most interesting and exciting characters to come out of DC Comics in a long time. Writer and artist Joëlle Jones does an amazing job with the art. The character designs are amazing, the colors pop, and the layouts are intriguing. The story involves the Greek gods, which is something I always enjoy in stories related to Wonder Woman. Keep the mythology coming!
After reading Joëlle Jones’ Future State Wonder Woman we continue with the spin-off series of Wondergirl (7 issues), where Jones introduces her officially into the DC Universe.
In Homecoming Part One:
Raised in Boise, Idaho, Yara Flor has always felt something was missing from her life-and now she is headed to Brazil to find it. Cracking start to this series. Joëlle Jones really makes stunning art. All those gorgeous women!
Themes: Brazil, the Gods and the Amazons get restless.
I really great introduction to Yara, I love her already, and the artwork is stunning. Usually I find the first issue with a new character can feel a bit flat, but a lot of background was packed in thanks to the creative layouts, and I feel like I have a good grasp on the kind of character and story we're about to get from this series already.
This was an awesome debut. Makes me wish I didn’t skip Future State: Wonder Girl. Perhaps they’ll include that run with the collected issues for this first arc? I sure hope so!
I like Yara’s spirit; it’s nice to see a strong heroine that isn’t just yelling everyone’s head off and punching them. And don’t get me wrong, there’s room for strong and loud heroines too, but only if they’re nuanced beyond just yelling and punching everything like their boring male counterparts that perform the same schtick.
I’m also super curious what weapon Yara’s capable of activating and why that makes everyone in the DC universe (from Nightwing to Harley Quinn) nervous. Even if the possible doomsday set-up is well-trod territory, I’m still super curious.
Joelle Jones’ art is ridiculously gorgeous, as usual. I loved following some of her Catwoman run a few years back. I’m reeeeally tempted to add this to my pull list at my area’s comic shop.
I love this!! I waited so long and it didn't disappoint! It's beautifully drawn with a good blend of storytelling in text and in the panels. I love the mixture of the Wonder Woman mythos and the other tribes. I look forward to it converging and seeing how Yara reacts. I loved the Future State series and am sad the CW passed on the live action show.
Finally got to reading this and...it was as wonderful as I was hoping it would be. The set up for what the first story arc will be was really great, this was a good introduction to Yara Flor (though I recommend reading the Future State books that include her before diving into this), and I'm loving Queen Nubia.
Also, the art was killer. So so so so stunning. I'm really glad I bought a physical of this one so I can just stare at the beautiful pages for hours.
(Also, we had a mini Cassie cameo and I'm begging Joelle Jones to bring her into the fold of this series somehow)
YES to everything going on in here. I love this first issue with my whole heart. And if you think that Yara was awesome in FS, buckle up because it seems it’s only getting better. The beginning with the throwback being shown as we simultaneously read the flight attendant’s instructions was a *brilliant* idea. It was only when we returned to the now that I realized I was holding my breath. Queen Nubia? I was so surprised and so ecstatic I was grinning the whole time through.

The art is awesome. Bellaire's brilliance as a colorist is well-documented, but I think I'm new to the clarity, dynamism, and expressiveness of Jones's art.
I feel a little bit like I've been dropped into a continuity/etc that I wish I knew better, but I'm mostly pushing that feeling aside. Gotta start somewhere.
