Combining bold, elegant graphics with easy-to-understand text, Simply Math is the perfect introduction to the subject for those who are short on time but hungry for knowledge.
Covering more than 80 key mathematical theories from prime numbers and matrices to logarithms and quadratic equations, each pared-back, single-page entry explains the concept more clearly than ever before.
Organized by major themes – number theory and systems; algebra, arithmetic, and calculus; probability and statistics; geometry and topology; logic, game theory, and computer science – entries demystify the groundbreaking ideas of famous mathematicians such as Pythagoras, Pierre de Fermat, Fibonacci, and Henri Poincaré, explaining the essentials of each key mathematical theory.
Whether you are studying math in high school or college, or simply want a jargon-free overview of the subject, this indispensable guide is packed with everything you need to understand the basics quickly and easily.

Good summary of mathematical concepts such as calculation and geometry using useful infographics to help understanding. Very brief and little here to aid further study. It also contained a couple of spelling errors which was surprising considering the small amount of text.
A good summary of the major topics of mathematics encountered at school, however, I felt it was somewhat superficial in places. Reference to more detailed texts would be required if a student were to use this as a study aid.
Math is a scary topic. This book goes right from the beginning with Arithmetic and lightly touches on the fundamental concepts of Calculus. There are some formulae but it’s more focused on a conceptual understanding of the various areas of math such as Statistics and Algebra/Geometry. That said, it’ll make you more confortable with mathematical ideas and provide you with some sense of guidance when you work on problems to further your learning. I reduced a star because there are a few typos strewn throughout the book, but it’s no so extensive as to seriously impact the quality or legibility.
I’m glad I read this text as math is far less intimidating now. I’ve learned a lot and will be able to all these new frameworks going forward. The explanations were straightforward, concise, and effective. Nothing felt beyond my reach as a layperson attempting to tackle math once and for all.
This was a really interesting look at a variety of mathematical topics and functions. I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject myself, so this felt like something easy to dip in and out of when interested. It doesn't go into a huge amount of detail or overcomplicate things, so it's easy to digest and doesn't feel too dry or boring.
I think DK do a lot of really accessible books on a variety of topics, and I'm glad I was able to take a look at this one in advance - I think this one will be enjoyed by hobbyists, students and life-long learners, and will be a nice addition to anyone's non-fiction shelf!
Thanks to NetGally and DK for letting me access the ARC - my opinions are my own, honest, and freely given.
A high-level overview of most maths domains, but a pretty comprehensive one. Predictably, the book starts with very simple and basic concepts (numbers) and ends with the more complex ones (statistics and calculus), so it's tricky to identify the audience but the books should be suitable for most secondary school kids. I liked the graphical explanations but I'm still disappointed how little attention the Bayes theorem got!
If you’re looking for a high-level overview (yes, high-level and it’s not redundant) about math, this is a good choice. It contains some good examples and illustrative graphics to help explain math concepts and use.
This was an interesting review of some of the different branches of math and the basics of each. Each chapter gave you a brief analysis about it's use, why it is important and how it is used. Recommended
This book worked a lot with graphics which is interesting, most of the other math books I own are completely void of them unless it’s graphs. It was really surface level and not as interesting as the other simply book I had.
A quick overview of elementary mathematics with lots of infographics. Sections include numbers, fractions, geometry, topology, statistics, probability and calculus, all in 150 pages with no exercises.
It's a pretty coffee table book that tells you about concepts in mathematics with nice illustrations, but does not explain them in much more detail. Not particularly educational, just nice to look at.
A rather short book, but a useful reintroduction to the vocabulary of maths. And the presentation is very good, too, with info-graphics for everything.
One of my friends often struggles to find the right English words for math related terms. This book has helped her & me learn Math in English from the very beginning. We know 98% of the knowledge taught in the book before reading it, and now We know how to talk about them in English more confidently. (Thanks to DK & Net Galley for this Book).
