I have one rule. No distractions. I’ve been burned enough to not let anything get in the way of my dream. And that is what I am here to do. I am at my family’s vineyard ready to revive it back to life. But no one told me they hired someone to do my job. I should know better than to let Everett Taylor get to me. I hate him. No matter that he looks like sex on a stick. Or volunteers as a firefighter. Or acts like a saint to my great-grandmother. I try to hold myself back. But with every minute I spend with him I just want to get closer. But I know the heat between us will eventually turn to ash. — Distractions only. That’s all I ever let myself have. Never a deeper connection. Until I meet her. Layla Jones despises me as much as I despise her. She’s selfish and annoying. I should ignore her. But I can't fight my attraction to her. And our time together creates enough heat to light us ablaze. But we only have the summer and I know this fire is going to burnout.

This was my first time reading this author, and I hate to say it but I almost didn't finish it numerous times. The flow was off for me, but more importantly, I just did not care for Layla at ALL. I understand her mother was horrible, but that doesn't give you a free pass to treat others like crap. I don't think she truly deserved Everett -- who is the saving grace here, hands down -- and I just never once connected with her. I just found myself getting angrier with her as the book went on, and was hoping there was a huge twists and Everett would find someone else.😂 that's how much I disliked Layla.
The three stars are for Everett alone, because he truly is the ultimate book boyfriend!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions**
What a refreshing small-town romance. Everett was such a broken soul lost trying to figure it out. Although Everett was dealing with his demon, I love how he was still very much an alpha male. Then you have Layla, who is also broken and trying to mend the scars of her childhood. Layla is very determined and devoted to bringing her family's vineyard back to its original beauty. Everett and Layla have passion and chemistry in spades. The book takes you on an emotional journey as they work to heal their scars and build a beautiful relationship.
* * I HAD BEEN GIVEN AN ADVANCED READERS COPY IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW * *
This was my first book by Tori Fox and I was not sure how to feel at the start of it all. It kinda gave off the vibe that I should have read another book before this. But I was wrong it all made sense the more I read and got sucked into it.
It shows a lot of hidden trauma that even we don't know exsist within ourselves and how we are the ones causing the issues in our lives not those around us.
Layla and Everett are my go to couple this year for overcoming their traumas and figure it all out in a semi healthy way.
Layla doesn't see how broke she is and how fractured her family kinda is until a mirror is put up in front of her face, and she doesn't like what she sees and rebels against it.
Everett is still broken from a trauma and loss and has been hiding out and trying to find things to numb the pain. Either Alcohol or adrenaline, just to feel something other than his hidden emotional baggage.
Together they heal each other, but is that enough to be together?
This book had me all emotional because neither Layla or Everett are perfect. They are bent not broken but together, I could see how they healed each other. They both have baggage and seeing them work together and their relationship develop had me crying and smiling at the same time. The chemistry is amazing and the story is sweet and sexy all at once.
Layla's returned home to revive her family's once legendary vineyard. She is less than pleased to find her grandmothers have hired a guy to take care of her vineyard while she's gone. A guy who clearly has no idea how to care for a vineyard. Everett takes one look at the gorgeous granddaughter come home and he's hooked. Too bad she clearly already hates him. But the attraction is still there. Will Layla give into it? And when (if) she does, will she open up her heart along with her body?
I wanted to like this - a firefighter and enemies to lovers?! Two of my favorites. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into this one at all, for a couple of reasons. One being the lack of contractions took me out of the story every single time, interrupting the flow of the story, and there were A LOT of places where a contraction (they're as opposed to they are for example) should have been used but weren't. And the last reason, the biggest one, is Layla drove me nuts. Now don't get me wrong, her mom was horrible and affected her a lot, obviously, but she was an adult and completely capable of not behaving like the selfish, annoying little twit she was throughout the majority of Burnout. The saving grace for me was Everett, he was a dream of a bbf, and completely too good for Layla. If he had been paired with a heroine as sweet as he, and if the wording were more flowing, I could have easily given this 4 stars, but as it's written, 3 stars is as high as I can rate this.
"You made me whole Layla. You took this broken man and healed him." And with those words Tori Fox and Everett stole my heart.
Burnout is another beautiful addition to the K Bromberg Everyday Heroes world. These small town romances have such big hearts and deal with such depth of emotion.
Burnout is a heated summer romance between volunteer firefighter Everett and vineyard owner Layla. He is broken hearted, lost and lonely (but also domineering, sensual and cocky). She has hurt and demons from her childhood that won't allow her to find value in herself. Yet she is free spirited, determined, beautiful and so loved by her extended family around her.
This story all takes place around a crumbling vineyard and Layla's devotion to restoring it to its glory days. She was raised by two incredible and beautifully written grandmothers (one being her great grandmother). The women in this book are so full of love and sass. They are a joy to read.
And the passion between Layla and Everett leaps from the page. I felt every emotion with them and had a little cry at the bumps along the way. He was so in love and she is so afraid. But ultimately this is a story of healing and trust and love. And the epilogue is swoon worthy romance .
Layla Hessen has returned to Coyote Rain Vineyards to turn it around and make it as or more successful than her great-grandfather and grand-father had in the past. She has travel Europe, Spain while attending college to get the knowledge she needs to make it thrive again !!
Little does she know that her grand-mother and the care giver of the vineyard has up and ran away on a much needed vacation .... for a while .... But Layla is determined to bring it around before he goes back to her last year of graduate school .. there is just ONE problem and his name is Everett Taylor, the NEW caregiver and boy does he give her a run for her money or is it her running him around ??
These two have a chemistry that everyone can feel that are within 12 inches of each other and boy do they fight it !! She is head strong and he is too BUT they each other have good reasons for there guarded hearts !!
Can Layla finally let someone in that she feels might be the one or will it be too late ?? Will Everett run off to help fight the forest fires and never return ??
This installment of the Everyday Heroes World will have you laughing, crying and scream all at the same tome at BOTH of these characters BUT you will LOVE them ALL the same !!
Layla has come home to fix the family vineyard to get back to the successful glory days, but she's not pleased to see Everett working with her vineyard. She's not exactly a nice person to him, and frankly, she got very annoying after a while. I know that she has demons from the way her mother treated her, but seriously, enough is enough. Everett has his own demons which have really put him on pause with life (I can't blame him there), and he certainly can't understand why Layla would hate him from the jump. However, they have chemistry in spades so it's only a matter of time before the sparks ignite into serious flames that neither will be able to deny. Of course there are the demons of the past of both of them, so can they really give it go together?! You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out! And I can't forget to mention the secondaries who brought the thunder to this story so I'll end with HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!
4.5 Stars for Burnout (Everyday Hero’s) This is the first book I have read by this author but it certainly won’t be the last. Burnout is Layla and Everett’s story and it’s a captivating tale that drew me in from the first page. Everett is a part time firefighter as well as overseeing the running of Layla’s family vineyard. When Layla returned home she wasn’t expecting a new man to be running the family business and truth be told she doesn’t take kindly to Everett, in fact she goes out of her way to prove he isn’t up-to the job but as he is not going anywhere she needs to find a way to make this work for the sake of the vineyard she loves. As the summer moves on this couple start to share a lot more than job related tasks, the passion starts to rise as they realise the feelings they have for each other. This book has all the feels and I highly recommend it to all romance lovers. I loved this couple, the chemistry they share is intense, the banter is witty and I was glad I joined their journey to happiness. I’m looking forward to reading more from this talented author.
Layla has her life planned out she wants to bring her family's vineyard that use to be the best back to life. Now she's home to do just that, however, things have changed and she is not able to handle them. Everett is a volunteer firefighter who was hired to manage the vineyard that Layla's family owns. Her grandmothers are a riot, her best friends will crack you up, and her heart will make you feel like one of her best friends. Everett and Layla have sparks and decide a summer fling could work out their stress. Neither of them wants more, but this whole story cracks you up. Their banter is sweet and funny and just makes you swoon. But when things get to be too much can Layla relax enough to let Everett in or will they both walk away. This story was great and I loved that every page you turned it was more of the story and the reason they both are the way they are. Both have had heartache, love, and both are just as independent.
This is my first book by Tori Fox but will NOT be my last one. This is a book in the K. Bromberg Everyday Heroes Collection. This book features Everett, a volunteer fireman, who moved to get away from his past along with his family. He lands a job taking over a vineyard that is trying to renew itself from a loss. He is a hot alpha male with a brain, yea ladies a rarity in today's world! He meets the vineyard's actual owner, Layla, a college student. Layla's family has owned the vineyard but due to a death in the family, the vineyard is now a loss. While trying to make the vineyard thrive again, she is also torn in should she make her heart thrive for Everett. This is a book of trying to find a way to overcome your past and go for your future. Will Layla be able to make both work or will she sacrifice her desire for love for the vineyard? This was a book I read in a day, it flowed well and enjoyed every page!!!
4.5 🌟🌟🌟🌟✨ I love the world created by K. Bromberg"s Everyday Heroes and Tori Fox's edition is a perfect fit tn that world. We have our cocky, alpha volunteer fireman Everett. Versus our sassy heroine determined to save her families winery while guarding her heart but not her sharp whit. This would be Layla. Both characters are fighting in a way to save themselves while fighting their growing attraction to each other. To not get hurt. Yet the feeling of finally being complete again, how do you walk away without taking the risk. Will the fire they've started truly burnout or can the find their happiness and continue to feed the fire? Well I know and I 100% recommend that you read this so you find out as well.

What a refreshing small-town romance. Everett was such a broken soul lost trying to figure it out. Although Everett was dealing with his demon, I love how he was still very much an alpha male. Burnout intertwines with the Everyday Heroes World and takes us on the journey of Layla and Everett's HEA. The chemistry between these two is intense and can be felt radiating off the words on the page. These two fight like cats and dogs and this only causes the intensity between them to rise. A story that gives you a little of everything and will have you crying, laughing, frustrated but ultimately falling in love with these two right alongside them. Their story is enchanting with just the right amount of heat.
Layla knew her entire life that she would one day take over the family vineyard. She knew how to take care of the grapes, make wine and now all she had to was finish her MBA. Everett hasn’t been home in a very long time he feels like he can’t go home. A tragedy from his past has him unable to move past anything with his family. When Layla comes home for the Summer to find Everett has pretty much taken over the care of the vineyard she is not happy. She is down right mean to Everett every chance she has. These to eventually cave into the amazing chemistry they have. Will they work though the other issues? Can they really work together? This was a very cute read. I found Layla to be a bit immature and emotionally closed off but with a mother like hers that would make sense.
This one started slow for me and it took me awhile to get into it. I struggled to connect with Layla and Everett! I will say these two have so much to overcome and they work so hard. They each are broken in there own ways and it so sweet how they work on healing each other.
This was my first time reading a book by Tori Fox and she did not disappoint. Burnout brings us the story of Everette and Layla. Everette is a part time firefighter and overseeing the family vineyard, Layla's vineyard. Layla has been traveling the world and while she was gone Everette was hired to oversee things. Needless to say, she was not happy and their relationship started off not liking each other.
Through out the summer, secrets are shared between the two and the passion and steam for each other grows. Their relationship flourishes until things become apparent and get in their heads and hearts.
Overall, this was a great story of love and loss. I absolutely loved it and look forward to reading more by Tori Fox.
Burnout, by Tori Fox, is set in Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes universe. It follows Layla, who returns home and has plans to fix up her families vineyard, Coyote Rain, and bring it back to its former glory. When her great-grandmother hires a stranger to work on the vineyard, Layla isn’t pleased with his experience or lack thereof. Everett Taylor has temporarily moved to Sunnyville for the summer to volunteer at the fire station for fire season. Everett is struck by Layla’s beauty from the first time he sees her.. as he’s in a tree, trying to rescue a cat. And all would be well, except that Layla storms off the second she learns that Everett is the one who has been tending to the vineyard.
I nearly DNF’d this multiple times. I couldn’t get on board with the heroine. The vineyard is Layla’s pride and joy, but I felt like she came home and immediately sucked all the happiness from the room. She was quick to judge Everett for no reason. She’s completely annoyed by his mere presence. Her behaviour was honestly childish and unreasonable and only so much of it can be blamed on her personal demons and fears. I found it impossible to like her.
Despite Everett also having something significant and difficult happen in his life, he is able gives her more respect than what she gives him throughout the book. All the stars are for Everett.
This book was graciously provided in exchange for an honest review.
This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Tori Fox!
Burnout is a standalone book set in Everydag Heroes series and tells the story of Layla and Everret.
I haven’t read a book by Tori Fox that I didn’t like. Burnout was another amazing Romance book by her and I really loved Layla and Everret’s story. Although this is a Romance read, it also talks about some tough topics such as loss and an overdose. There is no trigger warning so please keep in mind that these topics will be discussed in this book. I really loved reading Burnout but I wish the author included a trigger warning. But besides that, I really enjoyed reading this book and reading about Layla and Everret.
I really enjoyed Layla and Everret’s story because it was an enemies to lovers one. I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers because there are always fights that eventually end in the character’s making out, etc. I always love the build up of these types of Romance books! Layla and Everret are so good for each other even though they didn’t realise it at the beginning of the book. I loved reading in both perspectives and I enjoyed getting to know the characters.
Burnout was a good and enjoyable Romance read. Even though I’m in a reading slump, I finished this book in two days. I was really happy with that, and it means that this book was really good! I really loved Layla and Everret’s story and I also liked the vineyard concept. It’s not something I’ve read before which made me enjoy this book even more! Tori Fox did it again and I’m so excited for her next Romance book!
This is a wonderful addition to this amazing series and is Everett and Layla’s story. When free spirited Layla returns home to revive her family’s vineyard, she is not happy to meet Everett who is a volunteer fireman, and he is overseeing the running of the vineyard. These two both have baggage from their pasts, and although Everett is domineering and cocky, they need to find a way to work together to ensure the vineyards success. This is a well written story which is emotional, and with family, passion, turmoil, and is a humorous, witty, steamy, and entertaining poignant love story. I was totally enthralled throughout this addictive page turner, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Layla still bears the emotional scars of her past and she has been educating and training to take over the family vineyard and ensure its ongoing viability. When she returns home, she is surprised and upset to find her grandmother away and that a stranger has been put in charge.
Everett is a volunteer firefighter who is trying to put as much distance between himself and his past as possible. Although he and Layla don’t get off to the best start it is only a matter of time before the chemistry between them ignites but will their pasts stand in the way of a future together?
Full of emotion Layla and Everett lead us on tumultuous journey as they open up their hearts and their pasts to each other.
This is the first book I have read by the author and being part of the Everyday Heroes World just had me wanting to check it out. I have mixed feelings about this book as I enjoy reading enemies to lovers but I had a challenge connecting with the characters. Layla returns home to resurrect her family’s vineyard. What she finds is a man, Everett, who was hired to manage the vineyard who does not really know what he is doing. From the first time Everett sees Layla, the sparks are flying; at least from his side as Layla does not want anything to do with him. Can these two work together? Overall, there were some funny moments. The writing style was taxing in spots that broke the spell of reading the words and being immersed in the story.
Tori Fox has not only given us a great addition to the Everyday Hero’s world she has taken the enemies to friends trope and made it something fresh and raw and beautiful.
This story is about Everett and Layla, two fractured people who don’t believe in love, that is until they spend a steamy summer working at Layla’s family winery. It their summer enough to heal these two cracked hearts?
Tori has given us this story of love, trust and acceptance. It’s a story about family, some heartwarming but also a little bit heartbreaking, but it’s a strong story that you will keep you involved until the end because you will care what happens to these two.
Layla returns home in hopes that can get her great grandfather and grandfather’s vineyard to be more successful that it was in the past. She even was as far as going to collage to get her MBA and to be able to know how she can turn it around; her grandmother was hilarious. Everett is a part time firefighter as well as the new caregiver at the vineyard. The chemistry that these to have is unreal. The things that these to have gone though and help heal one another was wonderful to read, it also had all the feels.
Everett and Layla have a sizzling romance. I laughed, got angry and swooned. All the feels. The author did a great job bringing The Everyday Heroes world to this book. It was an easy read and I really enjoyed the pairs journey.
I've never read anything by the author but it is actually a good book. Everett and Layla have a steamy romance. Their story is heartwarming but also a little bit emotional. So you'll get all the feels! I laughed, cried, and swooned for these two. It is such a page-turner this one.
