A wonderful journey of a woman to connect with her own power. The book provided me with an introduction to shamanism and the spiritual journey. I appreciated the narration of the writer - very honest, very intimate. It was an inspiring read.

I am learning and earning my rites to the Munay-Ki right now. My spiritual teacher recommended me to read this book by Marcela. This book is amazing! Marcela closely helps you understand the medicine wheel through her own experiences. I related so much to this book and it has helped me understand my own healing journey much more.

I was so disappointed in this book.
It is not as the title suggests at all. This was one woman's journey, and as not to discredit her experiences, I feel the book was misguiding in its title.
Marcela talks about her struggles through her youth and marriage, which should have come with a trigger warming for abu$e and dr×g use.
I really wanted to learn something from this book, but unfortunately, I really didn't. Even though the chapters were titled after points in the medicine wheel, there was very little to learn other than her experiences.
If you want to read others' perspectives, it's a fine book, though I personally saw many red flags, several of which made me very uncomfortable reading. It's not a book I will be returning to.

Ok, I lost the plot with this one about 80% through when she started ranting about staying with her husbands family and how she overcome it and started skipping!
I feel this book should be entitled awakening my inner shaman, as it is a memoir rather than telling you anything useful about how to implement any of the practises.
Also the fact that she feel in love with her Shaman teacher was a bit too icky for me. Considering she was working on her ego I felt it was look how great I am throughout the book in-between her whining. It was a bit too irritating for me.

I will say I do like the fact some of the teachings and stories were kind of relevant to the directions used in the four winds. But to learn more you will have to sign up to one of their expensive courses.

A good look at the wheel

This was a good look at the Sherman’s when or the cycle of birth and death we all go through during our lives if we want to shed something and be free.

The author takes us through her life and how she started the cycle and her journey. She talks about staying in an abusive relationship and why. This is a take I’ve heard many times throughout my life. The author got out and grew while so many don’t. They talk about all the lessons they learned along the way. These are lessons we all can learn if we choose to do the work. It’s a long, worthwhile journey! Chop wood, carry water!

The book is hard to read. I sympathize with the author's experience of feeling list and her cleaner to try to look for a better life, however, the book feels cult -ish. Marcela is going through the hardest time in her life and she falls for her spiritual teacher?! Although it might have worked for her, it's concerning to romanticize situation.

Disclaimer: I only got through half the book. It was hard to finish because I could see the author falling into a spiritual psychosis. I believe she needed help after an abusive relationship. It felt like instead of finding a job and taking care of her kids she took refuge in spirituality.

I am grateful for everything that Marcela Lobos puts out into the world. I had been fortunate to learn about the Womb Healing Rite that she teaches and shares so generously with the world. I appreciate the perspective Marcela is coming from - it’s one of true value and wisdom. I like to read a little at a time of the book and take it in so it becomes more of a lifestyle change. I am hoping to reset my thinking of how it’s possible to connect to nature and community in a healthy way, and Marcela helps me with that change in thinking.

So I read this book in two evenings so it's safe to say I enjoyed the book. It's a lovely memoir of the author through their spiritual journey mixed with the stories around them and various traditions.

In the first chapter of this book, I struggled to connect to the author. Though I persevered through the stories, slowly feeling more connected and towards the end of the book felt emotional about some of the stories.

Focused on the Medicine Wheel and the Hero journey while for me this did not particularly resonate. The journey that the author went through triggered some serious reflection within myself and my view of the world.

The notes on other cultures Practice exposed me to those that I was not familiar with. Strengthening my respect for those areas more so than I already had.

Though several elements did not resonate with me or my path it's always interesting to get other peoples practice. Which this book delivers in a lovely way.
