This one was a completely cover buy. How could I not with that gorgeous cover? I usually don't read sports romance but the idea of marketing executive falling in love with billionaire sponsor sounded interesting.

Giana has had her eye on landing an endorsement deal with Stark Inc for a long time however she's having trouble securing a sit down with CEO Wynn Starks. After he cancels their meeting she shows up at his gym and she means business.

It felt a little long to me despite the short page length and I think that had a lot to do with the repetitive drama between Wynn not wanting to get into a real relationship and Giana having anxiety over him not wanting to get into a real relationship. It's definitely okay to want love and marriage but they clearly weren't on the same page with that which ended up making the end feel extra clunky to me.

Wynn and Giana had explosive chemistry from the beginning and that hot elevator encounter solidified it for me.

It could've used more Christmas in it. I felt like it breezed through the holidays despite being set in the holiday season. We got quick descriptions of what they were doing but instead of the recaps I would've loved to see some of these activities play out in real time. Instead they were tacked in-between sex scenes. It was clear the author is a foodie and I enjoyed hearing about the food. I would've liked to experience Christmas dinner more. I enjoyed the Lockett family and their interactions were great. I enjoyed how close and supportive the siblings were of each other.

There was a 3rd act breakup that involved Wynn acting like a manchild because he caught Gianna at a meeting with a rival that she didn't even initiate herself. There was more angst with his dealings with his ex-wife so really this whole plot point could've been scrapped for me. As explained earlier in the text they really can't stop the players from seeking out opportunities with other sports drink companies. While companies will often ask for exclusivity it was weird that their business dealing didn't seem to be an overall corporate sponsorship and instead seemed to be exclusive to the top player. The details with that could've been ironed out a little better.

I’m loving Yahrah St. John’s Locketts of Tuxedo Park series. The series focuses on the adult children of Josiah and Angelique Lockett, an African American family who are football royalty, owning the fictitious Atlanta Cougars professional football franchise. There are currently three full-length novels and one free online read, with at least one more full-length story to come. All the installments are truly standalone reads.

Holiday Playbook is the story of Giana Lockett, the third child, and only daughter. Giana is the chief marketing and branding officer for the team. She oversees the team’s marketing efforts, business operations, and strategies surrounding the team’s brand. She has been tasked by her father to sign an endorsement deal for their star player Curtis Jackson with Wynn Starks and his health and sports drink company, Starks, Inc. The problem is that the elusive billionaire has kept Giana at arm’s length for much of the year. With Giana not making much headway, her father starts back on his ramblings about her not being cut out for the job and maybe more suited to being a married Southern Belle working with various charities. Desperate to prove her father wrong, Giana pulls out all the stops to finally get Wynn to notice her and agree to a meeting. And notice her he does….

From the moment the two lay eyes on each other, there’s instant attraction. But Wynn has a strict no football players rule, which means Giana is going to have to work extra hard to get him to agree to work with them. From being trapped in an elevator together to explosive kisses and tender moments these two find a way to mix business and pleasure and make them both work. Unfortunately, old insecurities, outside forces, and a misunderstanding threaten to destroy the fragile trust they have built.

I loved Giana and Wynn for their great banter, chemistry, and big hearts. I loved that Holiday Playbook was low on drama. I won’t necessarily say that there’s a dark moment, but your heart does break a little watching everything unfold. Going into this story, I thought Consequences of Passion with Roman and Shantel were my favorite book and couple of this series, but it and they have been replaced by Giana, Wynn, and Holiday Playbook.

The next book in the series is A Game Between Friends, featuring the youngest and most elusive Lockett, Xavier. So far in this series, he has had very limited page time, but you do see him a little bit more in this story. I'm definitely looking forward to reading his story and finding out more about him and the woman who has captured his attention, heart, and love.

~ Favorite Quotes ~

“Love is a powerful force and it won’t be denied.”

“You are worthy.”

Although I've enjoyed all the books in the series, this one is in the top. Gianna is the only daughter in the Lockett dynasty and she is determined to hold her own. She is determined to get Wynn Starks to allow one of the team's newest players to become Wynn's latest spokesman. Sparks fly, and things seem to be progressing between them personally and professionally, Things are not always as they seem, and trouble comes and possibly tear them apart.

Although I'm not a big fan of sports romances, this was such a great story. I really loved Gianna and her relationships with her mother and her brothers. And I felt so sorry for Wynn, but especially enjoyed his growth throughout the story. I can't wait for Xaviar's story next.

I received a copy of the book via HonMagPR and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts.

This was a really special story, I love it strong female lead that is not above getting dirty to get the job one. When Giana showed up at the gym to corner Wynn into hearing her pitch I knew she was my girl. I felt for Wynn but he definitely met his match with Giana. I liked that this wasn’t the typical sports romance, Giana is the chief marketing and branding personnel over the Atlanta Cougars, the football team owned by her family. In another word, my girl was a big deal! Wynn owns a sports drink company and Giana is trying to land a deal for one of the players on the team. Wynn also has an athletic background. After the initial meetup, these two get stuck in an elevator and the sparks were flying. I really enjoyed going down the journey with these two and I loved their chemistry. It was a good read!

Giana Lockett was trying to get an endorsement from Wynn Starks for his sports drink company. She was the youngest of the Locketts and the only girl. Wynn had been ignoring her calls and not making an appointment with her. She decided to show up at the gym he used. He was not happy at first but it got his attention. Both Giana and Wynn were not looking for a long-term relationship. But they connected one night and ended up being a couple. Wynn agreed to have his sports drink being used by players from the Atlanta Cougars in ads that highlighted sons with their fathers.

What a Playbook

Great story of love and struggle with past and present. But love always wins over all. Such a wonderful story of career focus people with past family drama and how they got to be where they are now and how it is still effecting them now and almost cost them live but love prevails. WONDERFUL, can wait to keep ready the story and see the next chapter of the Lockett family

Very good book

This is the 3rd book in the series and it didn’t disappoint. This is Giana’s story. She had been trying a year to meet with the H for a business deal. They finally met and the chemistry was off the charts, both were not looking for relationships. The H had major trust issues due to his mother leaving him. They were able to find their way back to each other. Great ending.

Wonderful Story 🤗

I loved book 3 of the Locketts series. Giana and Wynn's story, though a work of fiction, comes real close to what many real life couples face. It is hard to put past hurts and demons aside, especially when they run years deep like Wynn's, but in order to truly live a fulfilling life, you have to do the work and try. On another note, someone needs to make Papa Josiah sit down somewhere and stop being so messy.

Currently reading for the 2nd time since release. Loving it!!!

I love this author. The books are very well written. I feel like I know them and would feel right at home . The main characters are flawed in many ways but then so are we in real life. I talk about my favourite authors all the time and I do recommend them to my friends.

Keep up the good reads!

Wonderful

This was a wonderful holiday romance read. People often don’t want to acknowledge how much their past impacts how they interact with people in their present. Yes, we need to learn from our past but unlike Wynn we cannot let ourselves be stuck in it. As the only girl Lockett, obviously the princess, Giana has fought for everything she wanted and this HEA is perfect.

Loved It

Giana had to prove to her family that she can do the job. Finally meeting Wynn she became attracted to him. Wynn had trust issues with women because of his past. Giana tries to show him that all women are not the same. Giana fell in love with Wynn. Wynn finally realized he loves Giana. Good book. Can't wait for Xavier story.

Great

I had a good time reading this book. Giant and Wynn are great together and miserable apart. Love was there in the beginning, I am glad they realized it. Stop living in the past for him and stop looking for approval of a father that's a control freak. Live life at its fullest.

Keep it coming! Great story!

Come through Lockett family! I thoroughly enjoyed Giana and Wynn's story! Once again, love wins in the end. I'm sick of their controlling father. I'm glad that the siblings have stood firm and have allowed themselves to let love rule.

Holiday playboo

À good book that brought in love to hard working people. How a female can in love and still be a great exec. Although, business is the framework of their reasons. Love can happen in the deepest way.

"'Your capacity for forgiveness humbles me, Giana'
'That's because you haven't known the kind of love in your life that I've known in mine,'" (214)

HOLIDAY PLAYBOOK is a cheery and glamorous Black sports romance that includes football, the Black elite and drama set in the timespan of Christmas to New Years. It was exactly what I was looking for, a decent Christmas romance with Black characters. That being said I was surprised at how quickly the Christmas events flew by, those scenes were light on details when I wanted more of the cozy mansion cabin vibes. I was surprised but also tickled by how fast the romance develops, it starts off as heavy on the lust and then they start slow dating which is actually normal but shockingly absent in a lot of romances. The biggest negative with this story for me is Wynn's blow up at the end, I'm not sure I'd forgive him but Giana's quote about forgiveness and love really hit me right in the feels. I did want more of a focus on Giana's family being one of the few Black NFL team owners (I'm assuming they're one of the few at least) and also more of a focus on the Black elite in Atlanta, there was some potential here that's never unearthed. I also found it ludicrous that Giana's dad wouldn't have wanted her to go to college, I'm not sure finishing schools even exist anymore?? I think it would have been far more compelling if instead we had focused on Giana not wanting to be boxed into marketing since that's often seen as a "soft skill" and "women's role" within corporations so that her father sees her as able to co-run the team but instead we get these comments about her mother wanting her to go to finishing school and her father not wanting her to go to college. So that minor plot line was inane. Other than that, Wynn seemed hot and mostly kind, Giana was smart and firm, their romance developed at the perfect pace and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.

Note: This is by no means an amazing romance, I'm only endorsing it if you want something set during the December holidays. If you just want a romance to read during the holidays I have other, stronger, recommendations!

Giana Lockett is the brains behind marketing and branding for the Atlanta
Cougars football franchise. She has her eyes set on getting an endorsement
with LEAN, a sports drink company owned by Wynn Starks. It would be a huge
win and help her father take her seriously. She is continuously proving herself
in a male dominated field. Wynn has worked hard to build his company. He is
uninterested in meeting with Giana, who he considers to be a rich, spoiled
brat.
Giana is persistent and tracks Wynn down where he works and plays. He is in
the middle of working out some stress when Giana shows up and has him
wound up all over again. As much as his mind is telling him he’s uninterested
in doing business with the Lockett’s, his body is deceiving him as it relates to
Giana. Wynn likes that Giana shows “grit and determination”. The pair
continue to cross paths and end up in a situation where Wynn is forced to
listen to Giana’s sales pitch. Let’s just say he also gets something out of the
deal.
Things escalate quickly. Wynn goes from being uninterested and dislikes what
Giana represents, to being on fire for her. It happened fast and all it took is one
kiss. Giana is equally attracted to Wynn, with his deep brown eyes and five
o’clock shadow. He is direct, straight to the point and Giana finds his
arrogance sexy. They explore what is happening between them and discover
they are a match physically and in business. Their chemistry is explosive.
The conflict is a bit predictable, but this is an enjoyable read. See complete review at romanceincolor.com.

I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway and bought the first two books in the series to better understand this one!

I really like the idea of a family dynasty and each story being about someone new, yet still having the old characters appear. There’s a sense of continuity that I appreciate every time. This book has an interesting, albeit predictable, plot. The beginning had me hooked but I’m a little disappointed on how fast the two characters began to fall in love though. They went from hating each other to loving each other in a moment’s notice which turned me off a bit given how unrealistic the buildup felt.

Nonetheless, Yahrah is a talented writer and I love her ability to get readers to feel like they can vividly imagine what’s happening in the book with the level of detail she writes with. I am curious about the final brother’s love story, so I may have to read that one too just to finish out the circle!

After a year of struggling to get a meeting with harden billionaire Wynn Starks Gigi finally gets that meeting and finds true love in the process. Gigi and Wynn were able to find true love once that got to really know each other and allow themselves to be opened to love, and Wynn finally opened his heart to love again after all the disappointments and hurt he experienced from the women in his life even after vowing never to commit again. Yahrah has been killing it with this series I can't wait for Xaiver Lockett's story.

Wynn is a loser. How are you a billionaire and can’t get over the fact that you were bullied in high school by jocks? Wynn and Giana fell in love way too fast especially with the trust issues going on with Wynn. I also didn’t like how Wynn WAS using the sports drink deal as an excuse to be around/sleep with Giana, it felt icky to me. I also just don’t think the book was written well, I was going to DNF it but since it was so short I just pushed through. This also gave me lowkey trad wife vibes, which is funny because that’s exactly the opposite of Giana’s character.

Love a business deal turned dating bet!

Giana is definitely a daddy’s girl looking to prove she’s has strong and tough as her brothers. Wynn has some serious trust issues but knows a good deal when he sees one.

I loved the chemistry between Giana and Wynn as well as the development of their relationship from business rivals to one night only to so much more. It was also great to see Roman’s and Julian’s HEAs.

I’m really excited for Xavier’s story!

Giana is an independent woman who knows what she wants and doesn't let her gender hold her back from achieving her goals. Wynn is a successful businessman whose past has helped shape him into the man he is today. When the two collide, sparks fly and each must compromise to determine whether they are meant to be together. Loved this story.

#3 in the Locketts of Tuxedo Park series. Giana is in charge of marketing for the Atlanta Cougars and is chasing a deal with a sports drink company owned by Wynn Starks. Although not planned, this relationship mixes business with pleasure. A quick read, entertaining with no surprises, and fairly light on the holiday theme.
