I read the whole web novel in a couple weeks and while I do really love the overall plot and characters, sometimes things drag on too long for my liking

-SPOILERS-

I've got many conflicting thoughts about this. I've read every available chapter of the novel in English that I could find, and I'm up to date with the webtoon as well. I started reading the webtoon when it was first published in English so its quite dear to me which is why it hurts for me to be rating this one star but there's some issues that I just can't ignore. I'm going to be honest, I personally didn't notice this issue that I'm going to bring, but I rather have seen it on instragram, and ever since then, it's been living in my mind. I feel like I can't enjoy the story anymore now.

The issue that I want to talk about is how the author has made a slave the villain.

The main conflict in the book is that Sovieshu brings a slave and makes her his mistress and then divorces Navier to marry Rashta. While I may not agree with Rashtas' actions, at the same time, I have to acknowledge the fact that she did all of this because she was a slave. She run away after she saw her baby dying and she might have been possibly raped by Alan as well so is it really that surprising that she would do anything in her power to be the empress and finally have some control over her own life? It doesn't seem that far-fetched to me.

All I feel towards Rashta is pity, and I'd like to include a quote from her because I really want to talk about this.

‘Why was I born a slave? Why did I have to be the daughter of that trash? Why was Navier born a noble? Why did Navier have loving parents and live happily?’

Rashta raises some very good questions here. Her only crime was to be born as a slave. If she wasn't born as one, she wouldn't have been desperate and cruel to achieve her goals. All Navier's done to have a good life really was to be born a noble, so the question that comes to mind is what is the message of this book? Slaves should remain slaves? It's the policies of the nobles and royals that make cruel and desperate people like Rashta. She never had anything good in her life, she's pitiful and if she had been the main character, people would have excused every one of her actions.

The person who's really to blame for all of this is Sovieshu. He cheats on his wife, manipulates a vulnerable girl into becoming an empress all for his gain, washes his hands of everything bad that he's done, and pins it on Rashta. When rashta was on trial and her crimes were read out, half of them were not even her fault.

“Empress Rashta Isqua, you will be sentenced for the following crimes: 🩵Collusion with Viscount Roteschu and his son Alan to deceive Emperor Sovieshu in an attempt to make Alan Rimwell’s child a member of the Imperial Family; 🩵💚Identity theft by passing off Viscount and Viscountess Isqua as your real parents in order to ascend to the position of Empress;💚 Unauthorized use of Empress Navier’s promissory notes as your own; The unjustified and heinous order to cut out a maid’s tongue to hide another of your crimes; 💜Attempted murder of Evely, the court mage’s assistant; 💜Borrowing large sums of money from a foreign duke on behalf of the Empress of the Eastern Empire and, to top it off, the unauthorized transfer of land from the Eastern Empire to this foreign Duke; Attempted murder of the Duke and Duchess Troby; Contempt for the High Court; 💛Defamation of His Majesty Emperor Sovieshu;💛 🩷Lastly, you impersonated a commoner as well as a noble when in reality you are a slave, and you tried to murder your real father to hide it. 🩷Do you plead guilty to these crimes?”

🩵Rashta never did that. She genuinely believed that she was pregnant with Sovieshu's child. She's not cunning like that and wouldn't have been able to pull this off. No one knew that the child was Alan's until the test at the temple.

💚While these parents might have not come from Sovieshu, he was fully aware they were fake and he was even willing to provide fake parents for Rashta so she didn't really commit the crime of identity theft did she.

💜She didn't know that her fake parents were planning on harming Evely, so how was she complicit in the attempted murder. Sovieshu knew this, but he did nothing.

💛Sovieshu is infertile, so is it really defamation.

🩷She might have planned to murder her father, but Sovieshu was the one who took Jim away. He was also fully aware of her status as slave so that crime of hers is all invalid.

All of the other crimes can be excused as well because if Sovieshu hadn't made Rashta the empress, then none of this would have happened.

While this was the main issue with this, the pace of the story was really slow as well. After Rashta died, I didn't see the point of more chapters as the main conflict was resolved. It was just a drag and boring. I don't think I'll be continuing the webtoon any longer, but I digress.

Might add more things later on if I remember more things I didn't like.

Sovieshu= lo peor que existe

I'm still enjoying this, but it's starting to feel too drawn out. I've been skimming a lot on Yonder.
