Autumn LaRosa has been playing defense since the moment she met Julius Cunningham. After accepting a position as a meteorologist in Portland, she strives to make a good first impression. Then she meets the arrogant wide receiver who belittles her in front of her new friends. She could have walked off the sting of his bitter words, but he keeps showing up in her social circle. Now, she is determined to meet him at the line of scrimmage and prove she's not one to back down. Julius Cunningham is well aware there's a flag on the play after his harsh words to Autumn. The more he sees of Portland's new weather girl, the clearer it becomes his judgments of her were unfounded. But how can he call a timeout on the animosity he created? When Autumn attends a charity event with the Pioneer players, she sees an opportunity too tempting to resist. Julius looks miserable being a part of the date auction, making it even more fun for Autumn to bid. Will she use the opportunity for some good old-fashioned payback? Or will this be their fresh start at the twenty-yard line? Get ready for the snap and sprint for the end zone because Autumn and Julius are headed for either a tackle or a touchdown!

Have you seen a little kid play with barbies? I feel like I just read the book version.

It's childlike in its naiveté. It's about a pro athlete, who's cheating wife asks for a divorce. He thinks and acts like it'll be a quick little thing because there's a prenup, even though she's not hiding that she wants his money.

He meets Autumn, he's drunk and rude. I swear I heard a little kid narrate it as "grrr. They don't wike each otwer, he's mean to her. Boo now they wooove each owther"

And that's it. They're kinda dating. Autumn has no qualms that Julius is married, hasn't filed, doesn't have a lawyer, has done nothing to begin an actual divorce process. It's ok because she doesn't want to seem needy or pushy. And he said his marriage is over so.

Of course it eventually becomes the half assed conflict later. But not really because even when she's upset that his wife came back Autumn keeps mentioning her biological clock is ticking/needs to talk to Julius about future kids(he has 2 with his wife)

Even though I guess she's pretty new out of college. The "age gap" is mentioned a couple times without numbers. Which is a great way to have it as a vague non-issue.

And also they've been "dating" like... a month? And oh yeah he's married. So OBVIOUSLY it makes sense to want to discuss having children asap.

Uhm. Let's see. It's also a spin off series. Actually a spin off of a spin off.

So a crap load of side characters with interlocking nonsense. That's a little confusing to follow- but is entirely irrelevant to this story.

Honestly I think I must have confused this author with one I actually like. Because this shit was mildly ridiculous

There is nothing like opening a book and diving back into a world created by a favorite author. I just knew in my heart of hearts I would love this novel. I knew I was going to swoon with the hero and laugh with the heroine. I knew there would be moments that would get me all teary eyed and there would be moments that fired me up. Because that’s how Heidi McLaughlin rolls! I loved the hell out of Julius and Autumn’s romance. I was swept off my feet from the start!

In My Own Words:

Fourth Down by Heidi McLaughlin is the first book in her Portland Pioneer series! It also happens to be Beaumont: Next Generation Spin-off, meaning we get glimpses of the original Beaumont characters and how their lives are going now!! I can’t tell you all how much I love generation spin-offs!! I’m that type of reader who clings to the characters I love. When I don’t want to see their stories end, I truly mean I’m not ready to let them go. Spin-off’s such as this one have a way of putting my heart to rest. I love them!

Back to Fourth Down. This single-father romance with a slight enemies-to-lovers twist is told from both Julius Cunningham and Autumn LaRosa’s point of view.

Julius’ life was perfect, or so he thought. He had the perfect marriage, two kids, and his career was at a pivotal point. Until all hell broke loose and he realized images on the surface aren’t as they appear in real life. Now he’s finding himself looking to file a divorce, something he never thought he’d be doing and making sure his kids are settled and okay. So when he meets Autumn LaRosa, schmoozing up to his best friend, Noah’s wife, at a party. Let’s just say he isn’t the nicest version of himself he shows on a day to day basis.

Autumn’s dream is to one day take her career as a meteorologist to a national stage. For now, Portland is a step in the right direction. Until she meets a broody football player who’d rather talk to a fly than converse with her. Not even a week in Portland, and it already looks like she’s made an enemy….. Or did she!?

My Thoughts:

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again.. I freaking love Heidi McLaughlin and her ability to write a sweet and sexy romance. When I’m in the mood for all the sweet and somewhat clean vibes, I immediately go to this author. If you are a fan of the sweet romance aspect that isn't too heavy on the sexy time descriptions…. You definitely need to pick up a book… or two from this author!! You won’t be sorry!! There has never been a moment when I wasn’t captivated by these characters and their antics!

Let’s start with Julius Cunningham! There isn’t a bad word about him in my mind at the moment. This man is not only sexy and sweet, he’s also an amazing father to his daughter and his son. Everything he did in life, he did for his family. When shit the fan, Julius did everything he could to shield his kids from the blow back, especially his eight year old son Reggie. I loved his one on one times with Reggie. These moments were raw and felt real. It honestly felt like I was sitting in the corner of the room watching Reggie and Julius’ heart to heart. I don’t think my heart has ever swooned this hard before. This man was everything I look for in a book boyfriend.

And then we have Autumn LaRosa! I loved her character just as much as I love Julius’ character. First of all, I loved her drive and her ambition to follow her dreams. She new what she wanted and she set her sights on the prize. But throughout this novel, I loved the fact that the prize (her dream career) slowly morphed into a new and bigger dream (a life with Julius and his children). I also loved her sweetheart vibes and the way she took to this single father’s children as if they were her own.

Speaking of relationships, let’s jump to the relationship aspect… Julius and Autumn’s connection throughout this novel was pure FIRE! But that isn’t the only relationship I enjoyed in this one. The friendships in this novel were off the charts! I loved the one on one chats between Autumn and Peyton just as much as I loved the bro chats between Julius and Noah. And then we have the sweet and endearing moments between Autumn, Julius, Roxy, and Reggie!

Overall, Fourth Down by Heidi McLaughlin was the exact book I needed in my life! From the intense chemistry to the sweet heart moments, I couldn't get enough of this one!! I can’t wait to see what’s to come! Heidi McLaughlin tugged my heartstrings with this swoony single father romance!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Story
🔥🔥🔥Steamy
🏈🌦Fourth Down is the first book in the Portland Pioneers series, a spin off of the Beaumont Next Generation series. We see familiar faces from Heidi McLaughlin other series. Liam, Peyton, Oliver, Noah, and a few others.
🏈🌦Noah is the quarterback for the Portland Pioneers and a good friend of our mmc, Julius. Peyton was a sorority sister that our mfc, Autumn, didn't get a chance to really meet in college. She accepts a job in Portland at MCAX as their new on air weather girl.
🏈🌦Autumn spends time getting to know Peyton and meet Julius through her friendship with Peyton. Julius married a girl he met while in college after developing a friendship during a tornado. They have been married quite some time and have 2 children, Reggie 8, and Roxy 3. She decided to cheat and Julius was done.
🏈🌦Autumn and Julius have some instant lust/attraction. But Julius is not in a good head space for a relationship. He's got so much drama and Autumn may not be here for it.
🏈🌦Seriously the story was utterly delightful. Autumn is really down to earth and loves her job. Julius is a dad trying to do best for his kids. Heidi McLaughlin weaves a fantastic tale of family, rebuilding self, and friendship. Definitely a great story and I can't wait to see which Pioneer is next.

My favorite kind of hero is one with an underlying vulnerability beneath the flashy bravado, and just enough baggage to make things interesting. That said, Julius Cunningham is a train wreck. His personal life is off the rails, trying to balance his NFL career with sorting out his home life and taking care of his number one priority, his children.

Autumn LaRosa is new to Portland and the latest addition to the local television news team. Coming from a small-town station, she's not used to the notoriety she quickly finds as the area's newest meteorologist. She's found an authentic friend in a fellow sorority sister and NFL wife, Peyton Westbury, and seems to fit nicely into her new group of friends. Except for Julius. He's nothing but awful to Autumn from the start, so when, on a whim, she places a bid on an auction a at a charity function that involves spending an entire day with him and wins, she plans to put Julius in his place.

You’d have to be living under a rock to not at least be familiar with this talented wordsmith’s name. Or the Beaumont name. Or the movie based on the first book in that series. Surprisingly, I haven’t seen the movie or read any of the books. (I like my life under the rock. Don’t judge.) So I thought it was past time for me to find out what all hype was about, and McLaughlin has made me a fan for life.

She has a way of perfectly balancing all the elements I love in a good romance and carefully placing them for optimal emotional impact. She then brings her words alive with detailed descriptions and authentic characters I wish I could be friends with. The fame and fortune of these characters is simply window dressing, because beneath the layers they face the same struggles and challenges we're all familiar with or have been touched by in our own lives. This allows them to easily capture our hearts and find a permanent home.

Beautifully told with splashes of humor and heat, it's the heart of this story that powerfully carries it through to the HEA. With so many poignant moments that tweaked my heart in the most delicious ways, this is one you definitely won’t want to miss. In the meantime, I’m working my way through this gifted lady's back catalog, starting with Noah and Peyton.

I was given this book as an ARC by the Author in exchange for an honest review.

This was the first book I’ve read by this Author.
Fourth Down is a sports Romance.
Autumn is a meteorologist and gets a better job offer. Which she takes. She moves and meets up with an old sorority sister from her college. She then meets through her sorority sister, Julius. It was definitely not love at first sight. Julius is going through a separation and is just in not in the best of moods when he first meets Autumn. He can’t figure out why he doesn’t like her and is suspicious of her being friends with Peyton. They keep getting thrown together in the same settings. You see how their relationship unfolds over time. It keeps you intrigued and wanting to find out what happens next! The real life situations has you emotional and feeling for the characters in the book.
I love that you get snippets of characters from the previous series (which I haven’t read...YET) I enjoyed this book and it has me wanting to start reading the original Beaumont series from the beginning!

Whenever Heidi writes a new book, I know instantly it's going to draw me right in, and sure enough, Fourth Down did just that and so much more!

In this novel, we meet one of Noah Westbury's teammates, Julius Cunningham, who has a rough go at things--he's trying to end his marriage and yet be the father his children deserve him to be. But when he first Meets Autumn, Portland's new TV Weather Girl, things don't go as planned for him, and now he has to grovel and fight tooth and nail to get the new girl to see he's worth the fight.

Autumn was terrified to pick up her life and move to Portland, but a job opportunity could not be passed up. But when she meets Julius, his attitude throws her completely off, making her question all of her decisions. Soon enough though, Autumn realizes looks can be deceiving and what she finds hidden under Julius's exterior will prove to her that he really is the man for her.

Absolutely loved this story by Heidi and can't wait for the next!

Julius & Autumn's story is complicated. There's the initial animosity - fully on Julius's part for reasons you'll just need to read to find out. Then there's the grudging respect. Attraction. Devotion. Mistakes are made, some milestones traversed too soon. Heartache.

But the overall story is full of hope, joy, friendships, healing, and of course love! I adore Julius's kids - Reggie & Roxy add a wonderful depth. The friendships between Julius & Noah and Autumn & Peyton brought a lot of enjoyment for me. I loved the peek into football & the weather! Yes, I said the weather! LOL

Highly recommend this story & the warmth it will leave in your heart!

I knew I had to read this when I saw it was a Beaumont series spin off and it was about football players! We start off the series with Julius and Autumn. Julius is Noah’s best friend and teammate and Autumn is a meteorologist. Julius is sooooo swoonworthy! And I instantly fell in love with Autumn. Julius has a lot of baggage and Autumn has to decide if he’s worth it! The supporting characters are awesome too…Reggie and Roxy and of course Noah and Peyton. We also get to see their siblings and parents again! It was so great to “catch up” with what everyone from Beaumont is up to! This was an excellent start to this spin off series and I can’t wait to meet more of Julius and Noah’s teammates in future books!

Reasons why this book is insane:

- The MMC is basically professing his adoration of her as of 40% BUT they never had a conversation until 35% in. You read that right, the main characters did not converse beyond insults until 35% and then the dialogue was written like two 10 year olds were meeting each other for the first time.

- The FMC is in her mid twenties and is freaking out about her biological clock ticking and talking about sperm banks etc. slow your roll ya weirdo. What is the fucking rush?!

Hooked from the first page and hated to see it end!
I was really annoyed at the beginning, trying to figure out why Julius hated Autumn so much when he only just met her.
But once his selfish. self-absorbed wife appeared, quite a bit became clear!
Loved little Miss Roxy, this cutie pie really added the laughs to this story.
The football component was great as well!

Fourth Down by H. McLaughlin is the first book and stand-alone in the Portland Pioneer Series.
Portland Pioneers is a spin-off from the Beaumont: Next Generation Series. And yes, there are cameoes of characters from this series too.
Autumn is the new weather girl in town. She's good people. She reaquaintes withPeyton, they become friends and with her come the football player of her husband, Noah.
Julius is a good friend of Noah, but he has some serious issues. The single dad is a tad bit bitter and Autumn becomes his target. Yes, while I insta-connected with Autumn, Julius is not my favorite person at all. I wanted to give him a good shake and say get a grip.
All in all, this is a good first book, I enjoyed the book and want to read more about the Portland Pioneers.
Since Forever My Girl I'm a fan of the author's writing and I fell in love again with Fourth Down. I loved meeting characters from previous books and it took me just a second to get them all sorted out.

This is the first book of Heidi's that I have read, and I must say, I'm glad. I really loved Autumn and Julius' story. I loved their relationship together, how they started out as enemies even if it was just a misunderstanding. Julius was trying to move on from his marriage ending, and Autumn was trying to find her place. I found that I couldn't put this book down once I started reading. Their story just drew me in and didn't let me go. I think that I will find more of Heidi's books and devour them too. This book was perfect, amazing, and such a good read.

Didn't want it too end

I really like Julius and Autumn's love story because it's not the typical type. I like Autumn because she is a strong, independent woman who goes after what she wants. The only problem is, Julius is still a married man. Following their relationship had me either cheering them on or becoming frustrated with them. Reggie and Roxy added depth to the story and Reggie actually made me tear up. I enjoyed that Peyton and Noah were in the story but I want more of Julius and Autumn.

I have written this review many times and have deleted it just as many times. I am having difficulty finding the words to express how much I enjoyed Fourth Down. Correction!!! I loved, LOVED Fourth Down. I want to say "Just read it. You won't be disappointed."

The author deserves better from me than that. I need to find away to tell you how much the story meant to me without giving the story away. How do I explain how much Autumn LaRosa and Julius Cunningham meant to me? How do I express how my heart ached for Julius's children, Roxy and Reggie? How do I get it through to you that their relationship is one that many can identify with and can give them hope that there is light at the end of the divorce tunnel? How do I share that you might cry and you might fume but for every down there are so many ups?

I became invested in most of the characters. There is one character I would like to flush down the toilet, but she did make for very interesting situations. I got to enjoy catching up with characters from the Beaumont Series. Who could say no to spending time with Liam, Harrison, JD and Quinn? Swoon. Drool. Heart palpitations.

Julius is struggling and not handling it well. Meeting Autumn changes everything. It isn't all roses and unicorns. There are a lot of thorns on the roses and the unicorn's horn needs polishing. There is a lot of drama. I love drama. The author has away of writing drama that has me feeling deeply, has me interacting and not always in a good way. So many emotions. What a great escape!!!!

The ending was wonderful I got the happily ever after that I expect in a romance novel. I also got great satisfaction because of the way the author handled one of the characters. I actually did a happy dance. It wasn't pretty but I did it anyways. The squeal factor was high with this book and I loved every minute of it.

Let the wait begin for Fair Catch, book two in the Portland Pioneers Series.

01/24/22 GRAB the AUDIO. So fantastic

Julius a football player for the pioneers; and Autumn a metrologist new to Portland, meet through acquaintances, and find their happy ever after. Julius a father going through a messy divorce and Autumn who is focused on her career. Neither are looking for a relationship, but they can’t deny the attraction between them. Julius ex of course doesn’t make this relationship easy for them.

I absolutely loved being back in the Beaumont world! Julius and Autumn make an amazing addition to series. Several instances when other Beaumont characters are mentioned, or make appearance it brought back all of the nostalgia. I loved getting updates on previous characters, and the story of Julius and Autumn. The football lingo, the puns, and all the adorableness that is Roxy. I can’t recommend this book or this series enough. Do yourself a favor and start at the beginning with Forever My Girl, and watch the incredible story unfold.

Now the wait begins for the rest of this amazing series!

4.25 stars--FOURTH DOWN is the first instalment in Heidi McLaughlin’s contemporary, adult PORTLAND PIONEERS romance series-a spin off /companion to the author’s BEAUMONT and BEAUMONT: NEXT GENERATIONS series. This is meteorologist Autumn LaRosa, and Portland Pioneers’ wide receiver Julius Cunningham’s story line. FOURTH DOWN can be read as a stand alone. You do not have to have read either of the previous two series to follow. Several of the characters cross over for cohesion and familiarty.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Autumn and Julius) FOURTH DOWN follows the building romance and relationship between meteorologist Autumn LaRosa, and Portland Pioneers’ wide receiver Julius Cunningham. Autumn LaRosa believes she has finally found a direction in life, accepting a position in Portland as the evening news meteorologist but reconnecting with Peyton Westbury, a former college sorority sister, places Autumn in the direct line of fire when Portland Pioneer’s wide receiver Julius Cunningham takes an immediate dislike and hate-on for our story line heroine. As a friend and teammate of Noah Westbury, Julius struggles with Peyton’s immediate friendship with Autumn LaRosa, a friendship he believes to be orchestrated by our story line heroine. Julius Cunningham is in the process of a divorce, and struggles with his attraction to Portland’s newest ‘weather girl’, and in this directs all of his anger at our story line heroine. What ensues is the building but contemptuous relationship between Julius and Autumn, and the potential fall-out as Julius’ past demands everything and more.

Julius Cunningham is heading for divorce in the wake of his wife’s affair but Julius refuses to give into Elena’s demands, demands that will force his children to choose sides. Meeting Autumn stirs something deep within our story line hero but from the outset Julius struggles with his attraction to a woman he fears could break his heart. Autumn LaRosa has no idea why Julius Cunningham despises the ground upon which she walks. With little knowledge about Julius and his life back home, Autumn will get caught up in the drama of his impending divorce, drama that threatens her relationship with the man with whom she is falling in love.

The relationship between Julius and Autumn begins acrimoniously as Julius refuses to accept Autumn as anything more than a star-crossed, gold digger. There is no reason for Julius to presume such a threat but his anger towards his wife is now direct at the woman with whom he will fall in love. As their relationship builds, Julius quickly discovers that everything he thought about Autumn is built upon his own anxiety and fears. The $ex scenes are all implied and fade to black.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Julius’ children Reggie and Roxy, his soon to be ex-wife Elena, and his parents Susan and Roger; Julius’ teammates Alex Moore, and Chase Montgomery, station owner Leon Woolworth, and Autumn’s ex Camden Porter.
We are reintroduced to Noah and Peyton Westbury (Beaumont: Next Generation), and Petyon’s sister Elle; Liam Page, Harrison and JD, as well as Quinn James and Nola, and several more characters from the previous series.

FOURTH DOWN is a story of family and betrayal, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is emotional and real; the romance is seductive and tender; the characters are animated and edgy. FOURTH DOWN is a welcome addition to the Beaumont Family of stories and books.

This is a brand new author for me. So I had never heard of the Beaumonts, I also am new to her writing style and characters. I want to start out with my review stating that, because I did not know anything about her other books. I saw this was a new series and thought it sounded good and so I wanted to check it out.

That said its not the type of book I enjoy. But I think that had to do with the authors writing style and how she placed her characters than that I did not enjoy the story. If that sounds confusing. Its my thoughts. While I was not a fan of the authors style, I also learned to love the characters with their very messy lives and honestly I could not put the story down. I wanted to see how it all ended. It was a bit of a train wreck but it was interesting, flirty, had a bit of hate, and characters I cared about.

So what did I not like and why do I call it a train wreck? First, the hero lead character, Julius is married through most of the book. Not just married but not even legally separated or even anything official. He is very angry at his ex because she cheated on him. But he never actually files any paperwork to get a divorce going until almost the end. Yes he has sex while still married to someone else, and while technically they are separated though not legally, he feels like he cheated on his wife. Which did not make it seem romantic with Autumn at all. I did like that he sought therapy after he feels that way and the way he treated Autumn after.

Another issue I had with the book was I could not get a read on the characters ages. It was all very vague. Which is not a huge deal except when Julius or Autumn keep referring to the age gap but never actually mentioning the ages. From what I gather, Autumn graduated college a few years before the book stars and Julius is around 30 but not 35 yet. I really didn't understand why the author didn't just give us their ages.

The connection to the Beaumonts was through friendship. Peyton and Noah are both good friends with Julius. Also Noah plays football on Julius' team. Autumn, moves to a new city and she is told that Peyton and her went to college together and were members of the same sorority. When they meet up they find a new friend in each other and she invites her to a party which is how she meets Julius and as she hangs out with Peyton, thats why Julius keeps running into her.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the first book in the spin-off series of the Beaumont Next Generation series. Autumn was a delightful character, I love the refreshing idea of her being a meteorologist. Then we get Julius, he is a complicated character because of his initial situation, but I really enjoyed him, being friends with Peyton is what will drove me to him. I also loved some cameos of my beloved characters. You can read this if you haven't read the previous series, but you will enjoy them so I recommend you read them all!

If like me you are a hockey romance fan, then I have found you your next not to missed new series. If you are new to Heidi Mclaughlin, then you are in for a treat, and if like me, you love Ms Mclaughlin's books you will not be disappointed. Fourth Down was an engaging enemy to lovers, single parent delight. From the first interaction, you knew that Autumn and Julius story would keep you entertained with a book you wouldn't want to put down. TV Weather girl Autumn finally gets the break she has been after and moves to Portland, where she comes face to face with hockey player Julius, who is entering into a bitter divorce. Unfortunately for Autumn, Julius sees all women as only out for themselves, which is his first opinion of Autumn.

I did spend a good deal of the first part of the story shouting at Julius on my tablet, I am not sure what my dog thought of that as he kept running to hide, it's as if he knew I was getting frustrated with the big broody hockey player. Autumn doesn't understand why Julius dislikes her so much and keeps blowing hot and cold, but she can't deny the attraction she feels towards him. Julius's children are adorable, going through this nasty breakup is taking its toll on Julius's 8-year-old son Reggie the most.

A great start to a great new series for 2021.

I liked that the main character was a dad pro athlete, and his kids were very well portrayed, and that Autumn was independent and the one to keep the romance at arm's length. (His cheating wife was a bit of cliche, however.) I didn't like that the H/H slept together so early on, as if they were kids who couldn't manage their desires (or worse, representing the male pro athlete cliche). This story was tied to some other series (that I haven't read) via a very loose connection; I'd rather the author didn't try to drag out more series sales but just start fresh with a story that a reader can follow even if they haven't read the other books. (The epilogue, especially, drove me nuts because suddenly there were a dozen new characters and references to how they were related and I couldn't follow any of it nor did they impact the central character romance.) There were a number of scenes that didn't need to be there and made the story longer than it needed to be. It was also at times repetitive and inconsistent (for example, we learn how she got into being a meteorologist three times, each slightly different). And the age gap came up multiple times but we never find out their ages so what's the big deal? And the twist at the end... ack, it was totally unnecessary; there was already plenty going on.

Autumn is a meteorologist who is offered a fantastic job in Portland so she would be a fool not to take it, and she's not a fool. So she packs up her life & moves to Portland for her new job. She learns quickly that a woman named Peyton (Holding Onto Forever) was in her sorority so she sets out to meet her not knowing exactly who she is. Julius is going through a very tough time after finding out his wife has been cheating, and while he's very angry & acting out, he's more upset about the effect it has on his two children. Julius is Peyton's husband Noah's best friend & teammate, so when Peyton invites Autumn to their house, she comes face to face with Julius, and man he's horrible to her. Hell he's still horrible to her several times afterwards until he finally owns his bad behavior. They start dating but there are all these complications because of his divorce so it's not smooth sailing so it hit me in the feels more than once. I think because he owned his own behavior is why I was able to forgive him for his mistakes despite the fact that I did call him a name or two along the way LOL! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this brilliant author, and I CANNOT WAIT for more of this spin off in the future, so it's safe to say that I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

4.5 Stars

Fans of the author's Beaumont series will not be disappointed by this new spin off. we all ahve watched Peyton and Noah grow up. This series will follow them in Portland with a whole new set of characters. Yes--we get to meet and play with Noah's teammates on his NFL team. BUT--we also are catching up with Noah, Peyton and all the Beaumont bunch as we go along. Loved all of that!

This is Noah's good friend and wide receiver for the Portland Pioneers, Julius' story. He and Autumn get off on all the wrong feet but this enemies to lovers romance will bring a smile to your face in no time. First off, Julius is a newling single dad and despite all that, he mosting has his act together. His ex is a piece of work and causes a fair bit of tension in the story.

Autumn is breath of fresh air. She is a professional, she balances her work and play time well and she knows what she wants long term. I loved watching her adjust to her new life in Portland. Great girlfriend moments throughout the book.

I liked this couple together. Great romantic read. Perfect intro to the team and what may be coming up next. Loved it!

4.5 Stars for Fourth Down ( Portland Pioneers #1)
What a great start to the new series and if Julius and Autumn’s journey is anything to go by, Ms McLaughlin will have yet another hit series on her hands.
Julius Cunningham plays football for the Pioneers and after going through a messy divorce the last thing he needs is another relationship but fate works in mysterious ways and we can’t always control our hearts.
Autumn LaRosa is new to town, coming from a small town she is not used to the notoriety she gets as Portland’s newest meteorologist but she has found a friend in Peyton Westbury who happens to be a NFL wife of one of Julius’s teammates. What follows is a party, a charity auction and a miss understanding which leads to this couple starting out as enemies but sparks fly, the attraction is obvious and these enemies soon turn into lovers….
This is a book with all the feels, it’s a story built on friendship, love, trust, hope and passion, it has wonderful characters as well as a couple of adorable kids, at times my heart broke but I also smiled a lot as I enjoyed this emotional yet entertaining read. Great start to the new series.

This is my first book by Heidi.

I will say that because I haven't read the prior series from where this one spins off from, I felt a little lost when it came to the side characters. They felt overwhelming to me at times because I didn't know them, or their stories. They were amazing, but just way too much.

Julius and Amber are beautiful together, but I will say that Julius tended to rub me the wrong way quite a bit. And although he does make up for it, I feel like his character just wasn't the ultimate book boyfriend that I'm searching for when I read. And then there was Amber. I just didn't connect with her on that level either.

Ultimately, this book was a good read, but I didn't feel the connection to the characters that I wanted and it left me feeling like I couldn't connect to the book as a whole.

I do plan on going back and reading the Beaumont series, and then trying this one again to see if it helps.

3.5 (rounded up to 4) stars for a fun sports romance that had me wishing for a little more connection to the characters than I got.

Ladies heads up...we got ourselves a new book boyfriend here! His name is Julius, he is a hot, successful pro football player, single dad of 2, who has been cheated on and appreciates a good woman when he allows his poor broken heart to open up and recognize one (You will SWOON ladies!). Thankfully the sweet new girl in town, Autumn gives him a chance after his terrible first impression! Its not the best beginning for these 2 but when Julius reedeems himself, you will fall in love with him along side her! Not to mention there is humor, cute kids, football and a bitchy ex wife to hate! It checks off every box on a romance lovers list!
This is a spin off of the popular Forever my Girl, Beaumont series and throughout this book there are many appearances from all of your fave Beaumont gang!!
If you are new to this author, you will be thrilled to know when you are finished this book and you are longing for more, there are many other books in the series waiting for you to cure your book hangover with!

I like how this series is connected to the author's other series, Beaumont and Beaumont the Next Generation. I really like Autumn from the start. You could tell she was trying really hard at her job and getting offered the job in Portland was exciting for her and she was determined to do a great job! Her learning that Peyton was a connection was good, their friendship was great for them both.

Julius I had a really hard time liking, he was an ass at the start to Autumn and for a good while after that. Sure I get why he was, but that didn't make any excuses. He really had to grovel had to get out of the dog house he put himself in and he's very lucky that Autumn was such a forgiving person.

I liked how their relationship grew, it wasn't over the top, but taking time when they had it due to both of them being very busy. It didn't help that things weren't resolved in Julius's life and his ex seemed to come back at the worst moments.

When the two of them finally worked everything out, it was great for them, they were happy together and building a new life.
