Sometimes home is a place you've never seen, a place you've never been, or even a place you never dreamed existed…

Nothing in Gwelle’s seventeen years aboard the starship Deliverance prepares her for life on the surface of Varax, her new home world. Life is good, but hard. But Earth’s last survivors have lived through hardships before; they will survive this, too.

Or at least that is what Gwelle thinks until accidents begin to plague the settlement. But wild beasts, explosions, and kidnappings do nothing to deter her from living her best life. That is until she uncovers a secret no one is supposed to know.

Together with the help of her friends, and the boy who broke her heart, she will do whatever it takes to protect those she loves. Gwelle has no problem breaking a few rules to get to the root of the tragedy wracking her world.
What she isn’t ready for is embracing her past. But to forget yesterday’s pain, she will do the one thing she does not think she can.

She will remember.

SJ Moquin writes fantasy and science fiction mixed with a dash of adventure, action, and dark mystery, as well as a bit of humor and a good dose of sweet romance. She believes in happy endings, fairy tales, and the power of love to conquer all, and has been known to fan-girl with the best of them over a hunky book boyfriend or two.

I received an ARC of this in exchange for an honest review. It can be quite a hit or miss for me when reading fantasy—especially sci-fi—but I really, really enjoyed this book! It was one of those stories I couldn’t put down and kept telling myself ‘one more chapter…’ I really like how fast-paced it was, I loved the main character and the romance was *chefs kiss*. I recommend this book for anyone that enjoys a fun fantasy read that keeps you guessing until the very end! Suitable for ages 13 +

REMEMBRANCE is unforgettable! . . .
. . . SJ Moquin delivers with this fast-paced sci-fi thriller."
-Michael Holiday

When the starships carrying the remnants of Earth’s population limp onto Varax, they find a paradise of wonder and danger, and a promise of hope.

Moquin’s world building is beautiful!

Fantastical predators thrive in the illuminated jungle, but Gwelle’s protector Raiden, is fearless—and good thing, because their new home is threatened by something even more deadly.

Some would do anything to protect the ones they love.

After an errant mission goes awry, Gwelle Airda must team up with an unexpected ally to piece together the clues and sift through the subterfuge to discover the greater danger and stop it before the future of humanity is obliterated.

Some would kill to protect the peace they’ve found.

Lines of loyalty blur between the colony and the boy she loves, and Gwelle is forced into the battle over her very soul.

A suspenseful and clever mystery that will satisfy a diversity of readers.

REMEMBRANCE is one of those stories you never forget. Heart-wrenching and cleansing. A page-turner planted with plenty of plot twists. You will delight in escaping to Varax and getting lost in Moquin’s amazing, bioluminescent world.

[I received an ARC for an honest review.]

The colors. Gwelle's voice. The Varax' descriptions especially the landscape and plants were breath-taking. I throughly enjoyed this sci-fi and mystery story! Of course, my heart got all giddy with the "friends to enemies to lovers" trope going on with Gwelle and Raidan. 💕 Lark and Knox are fantastic friends! The pacing was great especially with the sub-genres emerging together.

The theme of remembrance was huge. And one of my favorite lines was the very last line. (I won't mention it here, but you can bet I'll be highlighting it to remember. 🤗 ).

Thank you for writing this amazing story!!

Fascinating story.
One of the few futuristic tales of earth’s demise and star faring generation ships that has an intriguing story. Love all of the main characters all the way to the end. Finally a scenario that gives us hope.
I love books that make me think and feel the characters as this author has done.

Young romance, with action, adventure and sci-fi.
When humans have successfully destroyed Earth, they set off to colonize another world. But what of the resident race?
An easy read which would probably appeal to young adults as well as us 'grown ups.'

Okay - I'm probably not the perfect reviewer for a YA novel since I don't really read a lot of YA. However, I do read SciFi, and I very much liked the premise of the story, so I accepted the challenge.
I was not to be disappointed.
The author creates lively, realistic characters and places them in a world that is as dangerous as it is intriguing.
I love stories about colonists ever since I came across Anne McGaffrey's Pern novels. Following a group of human survivors as they try and create a new world for themselves is fascinating, and the author here makes a great job of the challenge.

Seventeen-year-old Gwelle Airda grew up in space. Born on the starship Deliverance, Gwelle and her friends developed bonds that continued to grow as they settled on the planet Varax in a new community called Nova-Zera. As a botanist’s apprentice, Gwelle is tasked with classifying and studying the myriad flora surrounding their new home. An overnight expedition reunites her with an old friend, and when disaster strikes, the two companions must overcome past wrongs to determine who is threatening their community before it is too late.

This young adult sci-fi novel combines action and romance in nearly equal parts. The bond that grows between Gwelle and her childhood best friend Raiden after two years of estrangement is heartwarming, guiding much of the story’s progression. Through chaste and respectful romantic interludes, Gwelle and Raiden support one another’s survival while establishing the foundation for a future together. The action sequences give momentum to the narrative, leap-frogging around the moments where Gwelle and Raiden’s relationship deepens.

Amid universal human emotions and struggles, this story brings a hypothetical, space-aged setting to the forefront of readers’ minds. Though humans have settled on a distant planet, feelings of love, betrayal, and redemption connect these futuristic earthlings to their contemporary counterparts. The narrative makes good use of advanced technology and an alien environment to craft a landscape that is comfortable despite its unfamiliarity.

Young adult readers who appreciate stories where romance and adventure intersect will easily connect with this novel. Mid-length chapters keep the pages turning, and though several grammatical and punctuation errors are found within the text, they do not detract from the overall story. Fast-paced and intriguing, this tale and the characters within it endear themselves easily to young adult readers. This is an enjoyable addition to teen collections of romantic science fiction books.

“Remembrance” introduces Gwelle, a seventeen-year-old girl who also happens to be one of Earth’s last living survivors. She’s been living on the ship Deliverance but her people are now ready to move more to Varax- a possible new home world. But new dangers lurk around every corner and not everything they’ve been taught turns out to be true.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. The plot moved along quickly but at a rhythm that felt natural. There was not dragging through pages in this book! I kept turning more pages to see what was to happen next. The concept and the mystery components were intriguing as was the new planet of Varax. The main character of Gwelle was relatable and endearing, but some of the ancillary characters were better developed than others. The full blog review can be found at heatherlbarksdale.com

I had difficulty getting into this book. There were a lot of descriptions that were necessary. Once the scene was set the plot moved along.
