Suits & Sevens #2

Mr. Right Now

Rate this book
Right place. Right Time. Right Name.

Drew

When my parents decided to name me Andrew I doubt they could have imagined it would lead me here…

Where is here, exactly?

The short version—the Wattleglen Inn on Long Island, where my roommate’s billionaire brother has roped me into pretending to be his boyfriend for a family wedding weekend. All because I happen to have the same name as the ex his family still thinks he’s dating.

The long version—a ton of questioning, fantasizing, and giving in to temptation after being on the receiving end of the most epic BJ I’ve ever had in my life.

Sullivan Stapleton is the last person I should be getting involved with; he’s on the rebound, he’s a guy, and he’s a freakin’ billionaire who never saw a problem he couldn’t throw money at.

But I can’t turn down the cash he’s offering to be his fake boyfriend for the weekend; not when I’m in dire need of funds to repair some storm damage to my auto-shop.

And then after the wedding…well, I should walk away. But for some reason I just can’t seem to let go.

Re-read on audio on 1/29/24 .. still pretty enjoyable!! ❤️❤️

4 Stars! Another one of those fake-boyfriend/fiance` tropes and I still loved it ❤️.. I am such a sucker for these kinds of books.. the all-around-feel-good stories where there is no angst, everyone is really nice (except of course for the evil-ex)l families are supportive, there are too many handsome & single hunks💘 (who are either gay or questioning.. 😉) and just loads and loads of steamy romance 😍😍. This was one of those 😍... Isla Olsen has fast become one of my go-to authors for quick, fun, light-hearted reads and this was no different. There is a little bit of a cross between this series and the Kelly family series and it would be great if you have read that series and the previous book before this one, but it's not essential. It can be read as a standalone. Yes, there are some questionable decisions 🙄 BUT.. despite those pitfalls, it's still a fun read. Looking forward to the next one with Sully's brother Deacon.. 😉 Highly recommended to all rom-com fans looking for some extra steam.. 💓

Really well-written fake boyfriend/fiancé trope with no angst.

Finally, an Isla Olsen book without a horrible miscommunication or super contrived problem. I loved this book so much more than I thought I would. I was expecting a 3 star book with some minor disappointment near the end and was pleasantly surprised that it was good from start to finish.

Things to know:
1. Fake boyfriend/fiancé trope
2. No angst
3. So fluffy it’s basically instalove
4. Lower end of the heat level, but really good for the few scenes you get

I love lighthearted and this book was that. Our MCs agree to fake date for a wedding. It goes exactly how you want it to and everything is smooth sailing from there. There are no consequences for their lies and no big gay freak out. It’s really sweet and super charming. I thought this was some of the best dialogue I’ve read by this author and that’s what truly elevated this from 3 to 4 stars for me. It’s was funny and had me smiling for a lot of the book.

Absolutely perfect if you’re in the mood for a romcom ❤️

And given my current circumstances (broke my arm, had to have it screwed back together) a lighthearted audiobook narrated by the one and only Nick J. Russo was the perfect choice for me.

You know I love NJR, and while this book wasn’t really a challenge for him (almost all of the characters are from the U.S.) he still managed to give life to each and every one of them, as well as a unique voice that fit their characters.

That being said: it’s the story of Sullivan, who’s not quite a billionaire, and who needs a date for his sister’s wedding (and he didn’t confess to his mum that he broke up with his latest boyfriend). And he asks his brother’s roommate, Drew. Who needs money to repair the storm damage in his shop. And who’s straight.

At least that’s what he thinks 😬

The trope isn’t exactly new, I know. But I loved the lightheartedness, paired with just the right amount of possessiveness. And I definitely fell in love with both Sullivan and Drew, and some of the side characters - while this book can be read as a standalone, it’s part of a bigger universe.

4 well deserved, smiling stars 🤩

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

‘Mr. Right Now’ is the first book I’ve read by Isla Olsen. It definitely won’t be the last.

Sully, Drew, and all their friends are terrific characters. This completely engaging story has just moved to the top of my current favorite fake boyfriends list. It’s sweet, funny, and simply a very good read.

My one disappointment was the manner in which the story so quickly wrapped up and ended. Still, getting there was lots of fun, and I look forward to reading more of Olsen’s ‘Suits & Sevens’ series.

I truly enjoyed this second book of the series "Suits & Sevens". It was funny and low angst, with a very well written fake boyfriend trope.
Drew needs money urgently to fix his shop after a bad storm and Sully needs a boyfriend to attend his sister's wedding with. Since Drew is Sully's brother's roommate, he thought it was the perfect solution and he offered to pay Drew enough so he could fix his shop. Of course, Drew couldn't refuse as he needed the money but things ended up very differently to what he thought.
I loved this book. The fake boyfriend trope is always so much fun, here it was also beautiful. There was an agreement between the MCs, but they just felt attracted to each other from the beginning and Drew discovered he had been gay all along. Sully was amazing and understanding, and their relationship followed a normal course until they were both head over heels for each other.
I laughed so much while reading this book and that's something that always makes me love a story. Sully and Drew were cute together and I appreciated not being a big freak out from Drew upon discovering he was gay. It just felt normal and he accepted it one he realised it.
This was a wonderful read, enjoyable and funny, romantic and very entertaining. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

I been wanting to read this book for awhile now. Was waiting on the release date for this book.

Finally got a chance to read this book, I can say … I definitely enjoyed it wasn’t disappointed at all in this book. Deep down Drew was actually gay but it took him to meet Sullivan in order for him to understand his sexuality. I was glad his family or friends didn’t judge him or disown him for being gay. His family already knew he was he was the only one who didn’t know.

Sullivan was the right match for Drew. He for Drew. I think Deacon didn’t care that his best friend and brother started dating.

Only thing he didn’t like was Sullivan getting into his business. But I will say this I’m sooo ready for Deacon book. To see what’s going on with him and the guy. Or another guy. But I’m thinking he and his best friend Jackson are going to start dating.

I was expecting the ex to crash the wedding or do something stupid. Nope, gossip article sabotage. That part annoyed me. I like how things aren’t confusing yet with the group. Seeing the rugby names though, I’m guessing most of them are getting hooked up.

Both Sully and Drew were down to earth. I liked how easily they fell for one another and Drew’s awakening. The vegan and engagement part was funny, it was a surprise that the families still didn’t know the truth. Felt sorry for Deacon, hope he finds someone sweet.

It is.. okay..

Lately, I am really dreading reading Isla Olsen books. The last few have been so.. meh. I would even say this one is pretty basic. Basic story, basic characters, basic setting. This one was very basic. I was sorely disappointed in Drew. It wasn't a bad book, but it felt like a..quickie. Like when you have sudden guests arriving, you look in the fridge and throw something quickly together from whatever you have there. No preparation, no consideration and planning, just a quick improvisation. I didn't feel any depth or effort in this book. Everything happened very fast, characters have sudden eureka moments where they realize life lessons and everything is just fine after that without them putting much work or personality into it. It wasn't bad, it was an okay story, perfectly average.

While I usually rate Isla Olsen’s books 5 stars (Counting this book I have only rated three books by her I’ve read under 5 stars) this book just didn’t meet the expectations I had.

I’ll start with what I really enjoyed. Both MCs were great characters and I love the dynamic of the white collar/blue collar relationship. The fake relationship trope is one of my favorites and fir the most part it worked well here. I also loved all the side characters in this book. They really added a fun dynamic to everything. I also loved how most of the book was really light and fluffy because it fit the plot so well.

Now to the elements I didn’t enjoy as much.
There are some kind of medium spoilers below so stop reading if you don’t want to see those.

I really felt like the way Drew realized he was gay was so clunky and weird. Like he lived his whole life being straight and then after basically one kiss he was like maybe I’m not straight, then after one more moment with Sullivan he was like “I guess I’m gay” It just did not work for me at all. It seemed like a too easy way to go. The next two events I didn’t enjoy actually kind of go together. There were two moments of really forced angst that did not fit into the story at all. To me felt like they were added to increase word count and not to improve the story. The first is when for no reason at all Sullivan’s ex shows up. It takes up very little time and made absolutely no sense. The second time of forced angst was the big misunderstanding/short break up between the MCs. Again it made no sense and added unnecessary angst to this story. It didn’t last long and just seemed so out of place and out of character. To me to took away from the story instead of adding to it.

While this book wasn’t one of my favorites it was still an okay book, not a bad book at all. If you like Isla Olsen or the tropes featured in this book I do recommend you check it out, and will definitely still be reading the next book by Isla Olsen.

I did receive a free ARC of this book but that did not influence my review.

Self-evaluation: I once read a book by this author that I liked. Since then I am convinced that I like this authors writing so I read her books and am always disappointed.

I didn’t like the first book in this series and I didn’t like this one although the books have my favorite tropes. So what was wrong? Everything. The straight guy is suddenly gay. Everything is rushed. No drama, suddenly constructed non-drama drama. The chance for drama was there but the author chose to ignore her options. The first one had a least drama but the conclusion was awful. Also if you wrote fake-boyfriend then stay at it. Don’t write this washed up crap. The fake trope was so low in this book you could have written a meet cute instead. And it would have been better.

Note to self: stop reading this series and this author. You don’t like it.

In theory

I think I need to watch a rugby game only because of Drew’s reaction to him in his uniform. Nnngh, Sully and Drew have chemistry, powerful, smoking hot chemistry, but what I really adore about them is how they’re friends first, they’re each other’s confidants, how they make each other laugh and smile, and how they trust one another. “You’re going to believe me when I say I love you. You’re going to trust me when I say I want no one but you. And you’re going to admit that we belong together.” 100% for all the spicy food in the world, Drew and Sully are meant to be. And that’s in reality, not theory.

I always know a book by Isla Olsen is going to be two things: Steamy and humorous. Mr. Right Now included both of those things and was an enjoyable read. I adored Sully. The poor man has more money than god, and all he wanted was to find someone to settle down with who loved him for him, not his money. With his track record of dating gold digger after gold digger one would think he'd give up on his dream of finding the one. Not Sully, he continues to give people a chance and the man falls fast and hard to say the least. He's also a total mommas boy who never wants to disappoint her, even going as far as to lie to her about breaking up his with ex Andrew.

Enter Drew, aka Andrew, Sullys brothers roommate. Did you follow that? Drew provides the perfect cover for Sully to bring as a date to his sisters wedding since he shares the same name as his ex and his mother already loves him. Win Win right? Except this Drew is a tattooed, straight, and slightly chubby mechanic. So not his usual type. Fortunately he also is in dire need of funds to fix his Mechanic Shop, so he agrees to the farce. I'm guessing he never expected it to go as far as it did.

Almost immediately Drew begins noticing his attraction to Sully which leads to some questioning. I mean that literally too. Drew bravely asks some of his questions to Sully one night in their hotel room which leads to the hottest hook up of his life. Of course it snowballs from there, with Sully falling head over heels per usual and Drew slowly catching up. The biggest hurdle in their relationship wasn't even the fact that Sully was a man, it was the fact that he was rich and in the spotlight. Thankfully neither let that issue stand in the way of their HEA.

I loved how Sullys brother made it clear to Drew, no matter that they were close friends, if he hurt his brother their friendship was toast. You have to respect someone who is so loyal to his family. The poor guy also got one hell of delivery of bad news to him too so I hope his book is next and he gets to find his forever love. I have a sneaking suspicion it's going to be the person responsible for his bruised heart and if so there better be some intense groveling and explanations if I am ever going to forgive.

First, let me say that I'm a huge fan of Isla Olsen and I was really excited to read this new book. It wasn't exactly like all of her other books: it was more fluff with a little bit of misunderstanding. I'm a huge fan of the fake boyfriend/fiance trope which is why I was drawn to this book. I believe she tried everything she could to make this as fluffy as possible yet give Drew and Sullivan as much depth as possible. Honestly, the supporting characters were just as much a highlight of the story as the two MCs. The only thing I wish she would maybe have done was to give the story a little more angst or some extra drama.

Drew (Andrew) is the roommate of Sullivan's brother Deacon. Sullivan is a billionaire or should I say a hundred millionaire? Drew has issues with people that have money because he grew up poor. What he doesn't expect is the one man he's ever been attracted to, to be anything but the stereotypical millionaire. Sullivan was betrayed by his ex-boyfriend, Andrew. He doesn't tell his mother he and Andrew broke up, so when she asks if he's bringing Andrew to the wedding, he can't tell her the truth. He needs to find a date for the wedding and when he meets Deacon's roommate Drew, he's intrigued and decides to just go for it and ask him to go with him. Drew thinks he's joking, but when Sully convinces him by throwing $25000 at him, he decides he has to do it. What started as fake grew to the real thing fairly quickly. Their love grew yet Drew's insecurities were still there. Can they get past the way Drew sees himself? Can their love last?

I gave this book 4/5 stars mainly because even though the characters were very likable and the chemistry between Drew and Sullivan was off the charts, I just felt like it was still missing something. I would definitely recommend it and would read it again.

I read this book for my honest review from GRR.

Mr Right Now is the second book in the Suits & Sevens series by Isla Olsen. The story can easily be read as a standalone, yet there are appearances from the author's past characters.

This one starts with a fake date, as Sullivan hires an escort to attend his sister's wedding.

Oh, this one is pure fun. Drew's always considered himself straight, resulting in a bisexual awakening. Yay! I'll admit that Drew sure was stuck on his straightness though. Damn, he was stubborn and in complete denial. It was a little too much at times, but I can easily overlook that.

If you enjoy fake relationships that easily turn real, this book is for you. If you enjoy rich versus poor romances, this one is for you.

The sex is hot. The relationship is fun. There are a couple things I don't love about the storyline, but I won't give too many details. If you go into it knowing it's light-hearted, and enjoy it for what it is, you'll be happy with it.

The writing is great, with a fast past and easy to follow. The story is pretty low angst, and tons of fun.

Mr Right Now is perfectly sweet and funny. This Isla Olsen read is a nice escape that will leave you smiling and entertained.

I am a huge fan of the Fake boyfriend trope and this one was amazing!

Andrew or Drew as he is called is straight. He is a down-to-earth guy that isn't the biggest fan of people with too much money. So imagine when he gets asked to be a fake boyfriend for his roommate's brother that is a billionaire!

Sullivan needs a fake boyfriend to take to his sister's wedding preferably one who is named Andrew. So when he meets Drew his brother's roommate he can't resist asking him to be his fake boyfriend. The small detail of him being straight isn't an obstacle for Sullivan.

“Don’t worry. All you need to do is act like you’re crazy about me. People will believe we’re together because it’s far likelier than the possibility that I hired a straight guy to pretend to be my boyfriend.”

Now throughout this story, you get to enjoy the easy banter these guys have and the funny situation they are in that makes you smile. But the really amazing thing about this book is the feeling of calm you get from reading it. There isn't so much unnecessary drama or blown-up things. Not to say there isn't any drama at all I mean we are talking about a book with a fake straight boyfriend. But I loved how easy the guys and their friends and family were about it all without making it unnatural.

All in all this book was an amazing read! It was just the feel-good relaxing book I was looking for but with enough twists and funny moments that it always had me interested.

This book can be read as a standalone

One of my favorite things about the fake boyfriend trope is how deliciously implausible they often are, and this novel is no exception (in the best possible way). Multi-millionaire Sullivan hasn’t told his family about his breakup with his evil ex Andrew-- so what he needs, in a wedding date, is a fake Andrew. Or...a different one? Enter his little brother’s friend, Drew, and brace for a delightfully low-angst love story where fake becomes real, as, of course, it inevitably must. I liked both guys a lot-- Sullivan for his confidence and patience, Drew for his humor and courage: it’s clearly not easy for him to revise what he thinks he knows about his own sexuality, but he does so with grace and bravery. Kudos to the author for giving the guys great physical chemistry and a solid conversational rapport, which made it easy to see how they’d work together and why all their obstacles weren’t really obstacles at all. As a bonus for those who’ve read other works in this series, there are some familiar faces in this one (and possible hints for who’s story might be up next) but the romance here absolutely works as a standalone as well. Overall, plenty of sweetness and heat, well worth a read.

Drew and Sullivan

Sullivan needs a date for his sister's wedding. He luckily finds someone with the same name as his last boyfriend so his family will never know his last relationship failed. Drew is Sullivan's brother's roommate and is straight, maybe. Drew needs the money and Sullivan is a millionaire.

But they hit it off. They have chemistry and Drew finds out he may not be straight.

This story is steamy, sweet, and low angst. I like the interactions between Drew and Sullivan as well as characters from other stories weaving in and out of the present story.

Enjoyable read!!

Fake boyfriends is one of my favourite tropes, and I enjoyed this second book in the series more than the first. I liked both Drew and Sullivan, and I felt like this book better addressed the disparity in their earnings and backgrounds and the potential pitfalls this could cause.

I wasn’t expecting Drew to turn out to be gay, but I assume there are all sorts of ways that people make this realisation, sometimes later in life, so I went with it. The sex without lube wasn’t my favourite (also would have preferred if they discussed Sullivan’s health or used a condom after Sullivan made a point of asking about Drew’s health before the BJ). Otherwise, I liked Drew realising more about what he actually enjoyed and Sullivan unashamedly enjoying someone who’s a little off type for him.

Drew taking a few days to be really conflicted after the article came out about him seemed pretty reasonable to me; it hit him where it hurts, and he and Sully are still relatively new. I definitely think communication is better, but 3 days seemed well within the range of “mild meltdown” to me, lol. I really prefer something like this to a huge overblown misunderstanding.

I laughed about the fiancé reveal just gaining a life of its own and spreading more and more around them—until that “theory” became reality. I really liked how cute they are together. They definitely earned their HEA.

Rounded up to 3 stars for the narration which was pleasant.

The story was fine but very much of the hallmark forgettable variety. I listened to this for “background noise” whilst working and it did the trick. I didn’t need to focus too hard on the plot.

Perfectly fine but forgettable

Bi-awakening, fake dating, spicy. The dynamics of the Stapleton family are fun to read. Super sweet of Sullivan to realize the self confidence issues Drew had and then make him feel at ease. And then when he convinces Drew that he's truly in love with him and Drew needs to stop worrying? *swoon* Again, wish the book was longer for a little more character development. Loved seeing all the characters from the Love & Luck series, and of course baby Brad Pitt Will Crawford. Yum.

I love a good fake boyfriend story and a good gay awakening story and Mr. Right Now was a great combination of both tropes.

Sullivan is a confident, successful man who has a penchant for choosing the wrong guy. After breaking up with his last boyfriend, he has to find a date for his sister’s wedding to take his place. Enter Drew, Sullivan’s brother’s roommate who just so happens to have the same name as Sullivan’s ex. But he’s straight. Drew is a business owner and a mechanic who is a little less than confident in his own skin and is intimidated by Sully’s wealth. While at the wedding, their fake relationship starts to feel a lot less fake and brings them together in a way neither of them expected.

Sully and Drew together were on fire - their chemistry was so hot and the steam was turned up high. I loved how patient, understanding and caring Sully was with Drew at each new step in their relationship. There could have been a lot of uncertainty and uncomfortable moments for Drew, but Sully helped to make everything feel natural. I really liked reading how they interacted with each other and how sweet they were to each other. They genuinely enjoyed each other’s company and seeing how they relaxed when they were together was so perfect.

So much of this story was feel-good and fluffy that the miscommunications and things that tore them apart felt a little too fabricated. I don’t think this book needed something to force them apart for them to realize they still belonged together.

I’ve really enjoyed the first two books in this Suits & Sevens series and can’t wait to see who is going to fall in love next - all of the side characters on the rugby team are so interesting so I’m sure their stories will pull me in. Looking forward to the next one...fingers crossed for Deacon!
