I’ve been a saint for three years. I kept my hands off her curvaceous body and my filthy thoughts to myself. Until last night when she asked if I had any dirty little secrets...
Theo Carmichael might be an alpha grump-hole supreme but curvaceous Wren Adler won't be intimated by the much older tycoon. She's always had a crush on her moody boss but what she doesn't realize is how hard he fights to keep his hands off her tempting body.
Alexis Winter is a contemporary romance author who loves to share her steamy stories with the world. She specializes in sexy billionaires, cocky alphas, brooding bad boys and the women they love.
If you love to curl up with a good romance book you will certainly enjoy her work. Whether it's a story about an innocent young woman learning about the world or a sassy and fierce heroine who knows what she wants you're sure to enjoy the happily ever afters she provides.
When Alexis isn't writing away furiously, you can find her exploring the Rocky Mountains, traveling, enjoying a glass of wine or petting a cat.
Not what I expected from the title/synopsis. Reads more like a sweet, almost clean, regency style romance
I don't know where to begin. Technical stuff first I guess. This writer had an odd habit of reversing the natural speech patterns. So there were times when you're understanding one thing only to reach the end of the sentence or paragraph and realize it was the opposite. Then you had to go back and re-read with a new understanding to make sure you interpreted it correctly. Fortunately there were only 3-4 times where this actually caused such confusion. Additionally, some typos, misplaced or repeated words, and a couple of instances where timelines don't fit and you know this book needed better proof reading and editing.
Now to the storyline itself; a good premise, but I expected this to go in a different direction. Instead, it didn't seem to go in ANY direction...just more and more of the same. With a title like Dirty Little Secret, I expected more excitement, more titalation, maybe even some danger or intrigue. Even if it was just about an "against the rules" affair (boss/employee) being found out by a co-worker who tries to cause trouble. Instead, what we get reads like a clean regency type romance between the H and h. With the exception of one kiss at about 40% and one sexual encounter at 53% (an attempt to make this steamy?) which they never talk about or even mention, they just go on as if it never happened and continue dancing around their feelings and each other until the end. And the H's fear that "if I tell her how I feel and she doesn't feel the same I could lose her forever" was overused and just got old. Grow a pair man!
Then there's the issue of the ex boyfriend, an entitled, manipulative jerk who lived off Mommy and Daddy's money and did nothing useful. Now this could have/should have gone somewhere. (See next paragraph.) The ex had always been accusing her of sleeping with her boss, the H. (She wasn't). She got tired of the fighting and accusations and broke up with him. But he continues constantly calling her, manipulating her to stay in her orbit. Her therapist tells her he's manipulating her, but still, she gives him the benefit of the doubt and continues to befriend him. Even after she's given proof that the ex hired the guy who's been following her stalker-like, he tells her he did it to keep her safe because he was worried about her. And she believes it? Really?
I'll tell you where I expected this story to go, where I think it should have gone so it would have been a more exciting, more realistic tale. After their first sexual encounter, maybe the don't admit loving each other, but they admit their attraction/desire and start dating. The ex continues to follow her, causing trouble, scaring her and gets pissed seeing her with the H and kidnaps her or holds her against her will. The H comes to her rescue and finally admits he's in love with her. Instead, in the last chapter before epilogue, (where she finally accepts that friendship with the ex is not possible), the H goes to see the ex (without her knowledge); tells him to leave her alone threatening legal action if he doesn't. Later, same day, she goes to see ex; tells him she's done, it's really over and they can't be friends anymore. (This would have been the perfect time for the psycho ex to hold her against her will.) But No! .... We're supposed to believe that the entitled, manipulative jerk, use to getting what he wants, who pestered her for a year after the break-up and who was jealous of her boss, just let her go without a fight, disappeared from her life never bothering her again? Seriously?
The events, as potrayed, just didn't seem believable. There could have been so much more to this story...it just never built to anything epic. Maybe my disappointment comes from the fact that I like confident men; men who know what they want and go after it. This H may have been confident in business, but certainly not with women, especially the h. And I really dislike women who are so easily manipulated or controlled (unless the story line calls for it, e.g. a natural submissive or a history that gives cause/explanation for it). A smart women would realize when she's being played and manipulated...especially after 4 yrs. After all, why did she break up with the jerk in the first place?
Ultimately, it wasn't the story I'd hoped to read. But if I take my expectations out of the equation and rate this as I would any other clean regency romance, maybe it's worth at least 3 stars.
the female main character is so pathetic. All she does is complain about how her boss would never like a woman bigger than a size 2. What she doesn’t know, is that her boss actually appreciates her curves and who she is?!!!!??
Ew, and the fact that nothing happens for more than 30% of the book? yeah no. 2.5 stars because things picked up in the last 50 or so pages.
tropes: billionaire boss, age gap, workplace romance, friends to lovers and proximity
I was so excited to get this book. Alexis is a new to me author and I thought that the blurb sounded so intriguing! I was not disappointed. Wren works for Theo and had just come out of a relationship. Theo is all super protective and wants to look out for her when the ex starts acting a little psycho! They were both already hot for each other so you can imagine what happens. It wasn't quite as suspenseful as I had thought it would be. But it was so hot! A bit of a slow burn, but boy did they make up for lost time! Definitely a book I would recommend and I will totally be looking into this author's back log! I think I need some more of her stories in my life! Story 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶 Swoon 😍😍😍😍
Really great story that is well written with likable characters. I enjoyed how sweet the hero was and the fact they didn't necessarily feel the compulsion to have children like almost every other romance, lol.
New to me author. Age Gap. Work place romance. I enjoyed this. It was a quick and easy read. I was hoping for a little bit more… 🥴 Might have to check out the other books. Available on KU.
This billionaire boss/employee age gap romance was well done. It was told from both POV which was good. I also liked the fact that Wren was a curvy girl... not some size zero. Made things more believable and realistic. It was a slow burn romance... Theo trying to keep his feelings in check because she is his employee and 11 years younger than he is. When trying not to fall for her best friend because she doesn’t believe that he would see her anything other Han a romp with a bigger girl. Theo and Wren had some wicked chemistry together... but also their share of drama. (Which was a little drawn out) I felt that he relationship between Wren and Penn was quite toxic... When it came to Penn she seemed extremely gullible and weak. It didn’t match the way she acted with everyone else... even Theo. In every other aspect of her life she was strong willed and confident. I didn’t think it matched her character to be so blind to Penn’s intentions. Easy read that was really enjoyable.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Steamy, BBW, older man/younger woman…with lots of drama! The chemistry is super. I love the older man/younger woman trope. Cover was fantastic! It was just too much drama. Sometimes I felt the “he can’t love me, I’m not his type” or “I’m too old for her” was overdone. On and on…these two were good friends albeit employer/employee too so why did it take them soooo long to accept their feelings for one another. I would expect some drama but this was just over-the-top. I loved Theo Carmichael who runs his own very successful mega-business and is “weeks away from 42yo.” He has lusted after his head of PR, 29yo Wren Adler for three years. She’s a voluptuous blond, blue-eyed knockout if you’re into “big-beautiful-women.” To keep us satisfied until the deal happens in chapter 14, we get their imaginary explorations of each other. Wren has an Ex named Penn who is very manipulative and has a way of keeping himself in her life, which infuriates Theo. That’s another thing…is she just stupid? I can’t believe that she keeps going back to Penn the jerk as a friend after everything that he pulled! Another facet overdone. This book was plagued with excesses: Theo thinks he’s too old for Wren; Wren is worried about being his “dirty little secret”; belabored drama and it takes too much time to get to their first liaison. I usually enjoy Ms. Winter’s romances, and I did indeed like the story line, but there was just too much angst. Like it was designed to make the book longer. Anyway, I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Booksprout. It would easily be a 4 or 5 star read sans so much emotional histrionics.
This book was suggested to me and I am glad I took the chance on it.
It was easy to read and turn pages. While the a**hole boss/secret crush theme is nothing new, this one had some cute touches and details that made it fresh.
This didn't thrill me, but I did close the book feeling good about the read. And I do recommend this read.
Billionaire BossTheo Carmichael has had Wren, his employee on his mind for the past 3 years, with constant dirty thoughts involving herself and her body. However he knows it can’t be anything or go anywhere, but what happens when he finally gives in one night? Wren Adler has had a crush on her older boss Theo, but she knows it’s not right so she keeps it to herself. But when an incident occurs leading her to be in constant close proximity, will she give into her feelings?
Theo and Wren’s story may have been a Best Friends to Lovers trope. But it wasn’t straight forward as would be expected, despite the usual drama, some mystery which created suspense, plus some angst given the emotions and feelings being put out there and of course fiery steam. The constant back and forth and walking around egg shells in each other’s presence lead to their journey being a constant bumpy ride that wasn’t easy to navigate. Considering the many faults that occurred with the mistakes both made. Seeing as it took awhile for Theo and Wren to put themselves forward, when it came to their feelings which wasn’t made easy. Especially with a jealous and possessive Ex thrown into the mix, who seemed to cause problems for Wren. All while she was trying to figure out what she wanted and what to do when it came to Theo and her growing feelings for him.
Unfortunately though I have to say I did have a really hard time clicking with this book. Not to say it wasn’t good, because it was since I enjoyed it somewhat overall. But I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I would’ve thought or liked too, like I usually do when it comes to any of Alexis Winter’s books. There were just some issues I couldn’t get over or past when it came to the overall story. For instance Wren knew her ExPenn was manipulative, having mentioned seeing a therapist who made her realise this. Yet when Penn tries to find ways into being apart of her life again, she seemed to forget all about it and allowed it. It just didn't seem to make any sense at all to me, given everything she had mentioned about it. There was also the fact of the same constant thoughts being said that lead to the story going around in circles before actually heading somewhere. The repetitiveness of it just got old having to hear it repeatedly after hearing it the first few times.
But despite all that, all in allDirty Little Secretwas still a good read. It just wasn't my cup of tea, like I thought it would've been.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Dirty Little Secret is a interesting stand alone from the ever talented Alexis Winter. This billionaire boss/employee, age gap romance is told from alternating POV and is an intense slow burn that packs some heat and has a bit of suspense to the story as well.
Wren is a bit of a sunshiney, always wants to see the best in people type of character. She's dedicated to her work and has a great friendship with her boss, even if she's been lusting after him for the last few years. Theo is a bit harder to pin down- he is described as a tough and grumpy boss, married to his work but he has a soft spot for Wren and it only partially has to do with all the wicked things he wants to do with her voluptuous and curvy body. It did take me a few chapters to really get into their story but once I was in I was hooked.
Personally, I didn't really get the vibe that Theo is a "grump" , sure he has his moments where he is quick to his temper and likes things done a certain way but I never found him to be overly grouchy or unlikeable. I did adore his friendship with Wren though. It's obvious that they are attracted to each other and work hard to keep it under wraps for the sake of their friendship and working relationship- and that slow burn attraction sizzles throughout the story. But the real winner is all those little filler moments- when Theo just wants the presence of Wren- how comfortable they are eating dinner together or watching trashy reality tv and how he jumps into action to keep her happy and safe whenever he can. And just because this book is a slow burn when it comes to their relationship- make no mistake that this book lacks in heat because there are some fairly steamy fantasies/dreams that come along long before Theo and Wren actually make any real moves.
I love books where I get emotionally invested in the characters and am literally screaming at my book when things obviously have to go awry. Theo and Wren have that kind of book and I definitely yelled at them many times to just stop overthinking everything and talk to each other- but it's always the moments that drive me crazy that also are so important to the growth of the characters.
There were a few things that I didn't love- like how there is the strict no fraternization policy at work and obviously as the boss Theo can change that but that entire obstacle in their relationship was kind of glossed over or other little things but in the grand scope of the book didn't really add or take away from my general feelings of the story.
This book left me grinning ear to ear! I love the chemistry between Theo and Wren, as well as the banter and their friendship. Both have been wildly attracted to each other for years and have been tamping down their feelings to protect their friendship, their work relationship and his stupid no fraternizing between employees/colleagues rule. It doesn’t stop them from fantasizing about each other or looking each other over when the other is distracted. So grumpy hero….who wouldn’t be grumpy when he has been denying and hiding his feelings and desires for years. It takes a stalker and a troublesome ex to set in motion a change in their relationship. With Wren living with him, the chemistry between them goes nuclear, add in watching her dance with someone else, a few drinks and her question about dirty secret and presto, Theo finally decides to take her to his bed. You will have read the book to find out what happens next. Suffice it to say this book is sexy, steamy and very entertaining. Happy reading!

This book is a great slow burn office friends to lover’s story. Wren has worked for Theo for several years and he is her go to person when things between her and her boyfriend Penn get rocky. Theo has had feelings for Wren since the day he hired her but it’s his secret. Once Wren has finally had her fill of Penn, she calls it quits she starts to realize she has a spark for Theo. When someone starts following Wren to and from work, she starts to feel in danger and tells Theo and he is determined to take care of the woman he secretly loves. He has her move in with him so that he can make sure she is safe and that when he starts finding it harder to hide how he feels but he knows he doesn’t want to jeopardize their friendship and their working relationship. Alexis brings us a super sweet love story with a little drama and suspense and a whole lot of steam. Theo and Wren have a super-hot connection along with a wonderful friendship. I thought this author did a wonderful job with this slow burn story and as always, she doesn’t disappoint.

For three years Theo has been lusting over his very curvy, very beautiful head of his PR , Wren Adler, but he has a no fraternizing policy in his company and doesn’t want to lose one of his best employees, who turned out to be his best friend. Wren has been working for Theo for three years and loves her job, even when Theo could be a little grumpy and moody, but even a good looking, sexy, grumpy Theo was good to look at. For a year Wren is having a problem, it’s Wren ex, and he will not take no for an answer and go away, but now Wren has another problem besides her ex that will not go away, she has a stalker. To protect her and keep her safe there is two thing Theo can do. One he will hire an investigator to find her stalker and two Wren is moving in with Theo. How will Theo control his feeling for Wren, when she is at the office all day and in his house sleeping in the next room, he has no idea and how is he going to control his anger for the way Wren’s ex is threatening her. I am volunteering to leave a ARC review of this book.
My thanks to the author for providing an advanced copy in exchange for a voluntary and honest review.
I highly enjoyed this book. Millionaire/billionaire boss romances are quickly becoming one of my favorite tropes. I liked that Theo was older, but not old enough to not know about things that are part of pop culture such as Animal Crossing. I also liked that Wren stood her ground against Theo and didn’t let him push her around. These two were definitely meant to be together.
I have only one problem with this book (and others like it) which is the on/off talk of prophylactics. They make a point of mentioning condoms during the first love making, but then fail to mention them ever again. The heroines also never mention that they’re on birth control (and thus condoms are no longer necessary). Mention of unprotected sex almost always makes me think the author is going to head off into unwanted/secret pregnancy territory when it’s unnecessary to pushing the plot along. Ms. Winters is not the only author that does this and I dislike that they think the reader is going to assume the characters are practicing safe sex techniques even though they are not mentioned.
Overly familiar plot. Curvy bubbly girl can't figure out why commanding billionaire wants her. "Sigh" They've been friends for years and work together. Theo is "gasp" in love with Wren but afraid to tell her. Wren just out of a four year relationship with d-bag Penn who gaslights, manipulates, & lies to her, but has feelings for Theo. She and Theo have a great working relationship and want to take it to the next level but both of them are weak willed thinking the other doesn't want to and think about the age gap. She attracts a stalker so Theo's going to protect her. The dialogue of each of them "wondering" what the other one wants instead of asking or telling each other made the book long and boring. Wren was stupid for stringing her ex along and neither she or Theo have any friends. First book by this author and probably my last
i really wanted to like this book! i enjoyed “those three words” and this was suggested so i figured i would be getting the same sort of story. unfortunately it just fell short for me! i don’t think i realized it was more of a “friends to lovers” story, which isn’t my favorite trope, but that’s not the fault of the author! i can also handle a little miscommunication but the entire plot of this book was built on each character refusing to talk about ANYTHING which made the book feel like it was dragging for most of it. there were also too many spelling and grammatical errors for me to be able to look past them like i usually can do! it felt like no editor read this book at all which made it difficult to remain invested. overall i was disappointed with this one :/
this one was a doozy to finish. it was good in the beginning but started dragging out for no reason whatsoever. they were never on the same page and had all sorts of miscommunication issues which really frustrated me. i also didn’t like how the heroine suddenly loved the Hero out of the blue while still being stuck on her ex bf?? idk, it was a mess. the heroine was super weak as well bc she would go running back to her ex bf every time he asked for her. the premise of this book was captivating and i liked the Hero but with the immense miscommunication and the heroine’s actions, it wasn’t for me.
This story had two very great tropes going for it. Boss/employee and friends to lovers. I really love both of these tropes and this book did an excellent job of merging the two into a very engaging read.
Theo and Wren have a great friendship, but neither want to ruin it by sharing their feelings with the other. They both think the feeling is not mutual, and so don’t want to ruin what they have. Being together as friends is better than not being together at all, is how they feel. Except that they both forget about this a lot during the story…..
They definitely had some intense chemistry and this book had plenty of steam.
Theo is very protective of Wren and to be honest I don’t think he’s wrong to be worried about her because she’s pretty dumb when it comes to her ex boyfriend. All interactions she had with her ex just made me cringe.
This book was full of angst. A lot of drama from the first chapter all the way to the last. It definitely hooked me in, and had me reading this in one sitting so I could find out what happened with this couple.
Good but the end felt rushed. All of the problems are just wrapped up too neatly and then the epilogue doesn’t really add anything but overall an ok read
Outstanding!! Oh my I absolutely loved this new by Alexis who keeps delivering great books! In this age gap romance/workplace slow burn we have Wren who works for Theo an older sexy billionaire. Both have feelings for each other but because of workplace rules neither is aware. The chemistry between them is so wonderful and I was hooked from the start. I devoured this book and stayed up late to finish it! I wish I could Alexis more than five stars as it was that good! I received this book book as an arc for my honest opinion but you really need to read this book it’s that good!
I did not finish it. It was a cute read at the beginning but I personally did not like the writing style and the romance was not that great in my opinion and character where annoying the hell out of me. It just wasn’t it for me.
Theo and Wren just annoyed me most of the time. Wren was trying to move on from her ex, Penn. But she kept engaging with him. Theo, her boss, wanted her but was too backward in coming forward, strange considering he was a self made billionaire. He was worried he was too old for her. It took too long for him to make a move and when he did they both ignored it. I normally love this author's work but struggled with this one. Read an ARC for an honest review.
I love AW books but this was not my fave. Wren drove me nuts with how ignorant she was to Penns manipulations Theo just needed to man up and communicate I found myself frustrated and pushing myself to finish the book An easy read & glad I did but disappointed that I didn't enjoy it more. It wont stop me from reading more of her books though
I loved the character Theo. He was a dream from how he loved Wren to how he did everything he could to protect her. Overall the plot was good, steamy and kept me wanting more. Wren wasn’t my favorite mainly because she was so chaotic with her feelings towards her ex. I wish she would if had a more “badass” attitude. I would still recommend this book tho. Can’t wait for the next one.

I received an ARC of this book and I’m voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I’m giving this book a 3.5 stars rating. The reason being is that it was a really slow burn angsty read hence why it took me a few days to read it.
I really enjoyed the story, a forbidden Boss-Employee relationship between Mr Carmichael and Miss Adler which also included an age gap between the two and an ex that wouldn’t give up. Lots of suspense to keep you guessing, some sweet and tender moments and some hot steamy scenes!
I hope you all grab a copy of this book you won’t be disappointed. Thanks Ms Winter for another enthralling read!
I love Alexis Winters books! This one came as no surprise that I couldn’t put it down! The chemistry between the characters is out of this world. If you need to go to sleep don’t start this book. I promise you will just keep turning pages!
