Jo has always dreamed of making it as a professional astrologer. But her practical Virgo soul also recognizes she has to pay the bills, too.
When she hears about a part-time job with Macy and Wilson, a private investigation agency, she is more than a little bit curious.
Her new boss (a classic Cancer, and handsome to boot) starts her off with some routine telephone traces. Jo is sure she can make this work alongside her true passion — astrology.
But then a man is shot dead, and his sometime lover is found dead in a bath in the Wellington Hotel.
Now Jo is really in over her head . . . Will the victim’s horoscope help unravel what happened at the hour of his death?

A bland read, passed the time. To supplement her meagre income from astrology Jo applies for, and with barely any effort, gets a job for a private investigative agency as a tracer of people on whom to serve notices. Following up on one such lead, Jo and colleague Al stumble into a crime scene, suggesting a link with a suspicious death that the firm’s boss, Macy, is investigating for an insurance dispute. There are gently drawn main characters, a handful of uninspiring suspects, and a fairly thin plot. Not even much astrology. All pretty placid, certainly not gripping. Not a series I’ll continue with.
Is this yet another author getting the benefit of a relaunch with a different publisher? The whole feel of this book suggests it was written years ago. There were twists and turns aplenty, but the delivery was painfully slow and despite a new cover and lashings of hype on the product page it failed to match books in a similar genre that have actually been written in the past year. Why don't publishers give young talent a chance rather than squeezing the last drop out of writers who have already enjoyed their time in the sun?
I liked Forecast Murder. Josephine Hughes "Jo" uses the name Giovanna Conti to write a prediction column for the Coventry Herald. She loves astrology but unfortunately that doesn't pay the bills. She finds a job at a Private Investigation agency--Macy and Wilson. Her new job involves figuring out if a recent death is murder or suicide. I enjoyed reading about Jo's escapades. The people she works with are interesting and her job will never be dull. Good start to a series. I liked that a glossary of words was included.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Jo, an astrologer, needs a part time job and applies to a PI agency. Here she meets Macy, the boss , who employs her to do research for him. I liked her first case which involved a possible suicide victim. This led to a very exciting murder case and a lot of running around for Jo. I thought that the characters were well crafted and complimented each other.
Starts with an impoverished self employed astrologer in need of a job that she can do as well as continuing her as astrology. Chances in a PI's office and gets taken on part time as tracer. But during this gets involved in couple of deaths. Alongside her boss she attempts to get to truth and eventually stumbled on solution. Well worth giving it a try - may become a good series.
The book took a while to get on keel for me, but the character development was excellent. I got a good idea of the base she is building for a series of books and I think it is a solid, intriguing one. It would make a good TV series. Amazon should take a look at it.
This book was very British. It was also slow moving. But the main characters were fun to read about. I especial enjoyed the detective , Macy. He was not the smooth, handsome man who looks like a movie star. It was fun to read.
I went to see Linda at an author talk at my local library. She was a very interesting lady to listen to. She wrote this book a long time ago and has recently started continuing the series. Really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to reading the next one!
A good story line slow but interesting. Unusual in some way like Jo been able to read to tell you the future concerning the stars and your sign and having a column in the newspapers. Nice.
I enjoyed this unusual novel. The characters are just regular people, very believable and somewhat likeable. I enjoyed the interplay of the two main characters especially for the true humaness of their interactions.
Excellent set up for a series. I enjoyed the characters and especially the story. Kept me going and looking forward to more “adventures” with Jo and Macy.
