The First Book to Link the Science Behind Tiny Habits to Faith and Trauma Recovery“The heartache that you woke up with this morning, that pain in your soul that makes even the task of receiving hope for today exhausting, that heartache is not who you are. The abuses, losses, and betrayals you’ve experienced do not have to continue to cast a dark shadow over your life. Your journey is not over, and you are never alone. Your situation is not your destiny, and sorrow isn’t your permanent address.”Juni Felix is a triumph—a survivor of profound trauma, a Behavior Design Teaching Team member of renowned Stanford University professor Dr. B. J. Fogg’s Behavior Design Lab, and a Tiny Habits Coach. She begins her book with these words to encourage every recovering person to design a path toward hope, peace, and joy. By combining the science of Behavior Design with faith, she equips you with a proven method that Tiny Habits, a fun and surprisingly simple system that reprograms your mind toward faith that offers freedom from the wounds of your past. In this accessible book, she offers a vision of living faith by practicing Tiny Habits that build on each other and reward us with tiny victories and celebrations along the way.As one who has long used Tiny Habits and teaches about using them to transform lives and relationships, Juni teaches that because God is a Systems Guy, human behavior is not random and unpredictable; it’s systematic. Once you understand the system, you can design strategies that work to take back your life and stop the cycle of shame, blame, and self-condemnation for good.
In the book it goes by a different name but really it's just DBT Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which is a good method of therapy.
However, I don't agree with the author's thoughts on forgiveness and feel that anyone who has read this should read Timothy Keller's book on forgiveness for that point instead.
I also feel that she focuses so much on joy, which is not entirely a bad thing except for the fact that we are to take up our cross daily which will involve some suffering. And yes we should put time into healing but we need to remember that sometimes the healing won't come until heaven. I also think it might become dangerous to celebrate absolutely everything because not only can it give you a big head in the long run but it can cheapen true celebration.
If you are overwhelmed by the commitment to the process of healing from trauma , look no further, this book is perfect for you. “You Are Worth the Work - Moving Forward from Trauma to Faith”, clearly proves that taking smaller steps at a slower pace, leads to a more manageable process of overcoming trauma and healing from it. The author, Juni Felix, says “We must slow down and commit to the healing journey”; and then, be brave enough to decide to take action. Having suffered deep trauma herself, she emphasizes the importance of acknowledging our pain, as well as, honoring what we are experiencing and feeling. Further, she states that “pain is a prompt to a tiny specific healing choice.” The process involves the science of “Behavior Design” , where we get to create healthy and small actions, called Tiny Habits, rooted in “self-compassion” and “self-love”. Consistency, perseverance, faith, hope, courage, gratitude and joy, are components of the “trauma recovery tool kit”, if you will. The author prompts the reader through each chapter, to lovingly pursue their healing journey, as she shares many examples of such. Her words are still fresh in my mind: “So what’s your mission? To allow sorrow and sadness to suffocate your light? Or will you choose to Shine, one tiny choice at a time?”. This book is so moving and life changing, and it is an invitation to a better and intentional way of living. I hope you love yourself enough to know that “You Are Worth the Work”. I highly recommend it!

I loved reading this book. The modern day movie references and the easy steps to build Tiny Habits in your life. Must read if you're dealing with trauma.
The author has given me a new light on recovery. After many years of therapist and self helps, I still didn't have a complete grasp on the recovery. Juni explains how God and Tiny Habits are our stepping stones. I know that I will always be in recovery, but this book has made the road much easier. I pray that this book helps you as well! Blessing and much love to the author, Kelle H.
I heard Juni speak on Faith Radio sometime in 2021 - compelling conversation and I was so intrigued by the Tiny Habits. Powerful and encouraging for those who have suffered trauma - solid recommendations to use this as a resource with a counselor. Also a great resource for those of us who come alongside trauma survivors. Thank you, Juni!
Juni Felix encourages trauma sufferers to pursue healing over the long haul, taking tiny, gradual steps towards wellness and spiritual wholeness. Felix is forthright about her own difficult background, but shows the reader how her life gradually changed as she began to think of trauma as "bad code" that she could rewrite by changing her habits. She urges readers not to blame themselves for feeling stuck or unable to heal, but shows them how a systems mindset for human behavior can help them make incremental changes that lead to transformation. Much of the book's thesis originates from work by Dr. B. J. Fogg, a Behavior Design specialist, and Felix shares her passion for how a "TinyHabits" system can help people grow in self-compassion, love, and community.
I enjoyed Felix's warm, personable writing voice throughout this book. Her unique personality and compassion for others come through clearly in her writing, and I appreciated her many different reflections about common issues and experiences that trauma survivors struggle with. She seamlessly interweaves Scripture with her personal reflections and ideas for behavior design, and even though I found some aspects of the TinyHabits system gimmicky, the core truths behind the program will invite transformation, regardless how someone adapts it to their tastes. I would encourage people with less emotive personalities to read this book for the wisdom it offers, even if they find parts of it cheesy or unnatural to them.
You Are Worth the Work is full of practical ideas and loving encouragement for trauma survivors. Most of the examples focus on trauma within the family, since Felix's background involved severe abuse and neglect at home, but people with different backgrounds can still benefit from her perspective and identify with her overall descriptions of life with trauma. Also, I'd like to note that this book is appropriate for teenagers. Felix avoids delving into graphic content, so this book can be helpful for anyone with the maturity and reading level to engage with the complex topics it covers. I would recommend this book to people who feel overwhelmed by the healing process, no matter what they have specifically suffered, and this book would also be a great read for family members, friends, and spiritual leaders who want to better understand and support traumatized people in their lives.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Juni Felix is living proof that healing from complex trauma is possible and now she's sharing her system with others that long for that "reprogramming." If you have experienced trauma, Juni has lots of small ways to help get big healing. Her insights include practical help in connecting dots from abuse in the past being continued in the present because the shame and self-condemnation are emotional familiars. We can actually continue where the abuse left off in choosing coping devices that are hurtful and unhealthful to who we deserve to be. Juni hasn't just pulled a thorn...she's pulled the sword from the stone in making the discovery that God is a "systems guy," and then sharing that system with others who hurt, providing a step by step map out of the pit. Excellent and God-honoring. Hooray for Juni Felix!
I received this book free from the publisher, and it is a blessing because of its uplifting message that even though there's trauma in my life, I can move forward toward a productive life, and know, without any doubt that "yes, I'm loved and worthy of peace in my life, beyond that trauma" Juni, thank you for this book. It is sooo needed!!
Not new information and I really didn't vibe with the way it was presented. I mean, the info itself is valid, but just not my favorite book on the subject.
Amazing book!!! Terrific encouragement to heal through faith in Jesus, the ultimate healer. Thank you Juni for pouring out pain and sharing how healing happens. I daily cherish "shine" moments. I share this book with hurting friends.
SO good. she incorporates strategies that work for not just one area of your life, speaks aaamazing Truth, and made me feel seen and loved <3 highly recommend. I’m inspired.
I didn't give this book a rating because I feel conflicted about it. On one hand, there were some ideas presented that I found to be profound as we think of healing mentally/emotionally and moving forward after trauma. Such as taking small steps, and celebrating tiny victories, and realizing sorrow/depression may be pointing to a wound that needs attention.
On the other hand, there were some things that I perhaps strongly disagree with, particularly on matters of doctrine and faith. As always, it's helpful to remember that no book is perfect, and to measure it all up against Scripture. God's Word is the only source of complete truth.
Some tiny but might reasons for you to pick up this book... > It's approachable. > It's practical. > It's proven. > It's fun!! Juni is a wonderful writer with an engaging voice, and she balances the depth of life's difficulties and the technicalities of science with the fun of enjoying life and finding victory in the journey. Please, please, please take your next tiny but mighty step toward healing and pick up this book.
