This is a great re-telling of Jane Eyre! I was captivated from the beginning. The suspense that was happening had me continuing to the next page even after my bed time. The connection that Jane forms with Adele early on was so heartwarming! It was beautiful to see. And don't even get me started on the wench who shall not be named. She had me so angry! You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals and children. And she was NOT a nice person! Definitely an enjoyable read!

This was a new to me author and one I'd definitely be interested in reading more from in the future.
For me personally I struggled to connect with either the characters, plot or both for about 60% of this book, especially when going in I was expecting more suspense than mystery.
In saying that though, the last 40% though made everything worth it, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
I'm not going to comment on the characters and you'll understand why by the end.

WARNING: Do NOT start Jane Deyre unless you have time to read it in its entirety! Nelle L'Amour's updated take on the classic will NOT let you go until you finish! While Jane Deyre is a retelling of the classic by Charlotte Bronte, Nelle L'Amour most definitely puts her own light on the story, giving it new life. It is sure to become a classic in its own right!

Jane Deyre has it all... Mystery, suspense, tragedy, romance, history, adventure, and even a little science fiction. It is extremely well written with well developed characters that are easy to love and an easy to read, enticing plot. Well, all of them except for the house manager, Ms. Fairfax, who is just a bitter, angry old shrew.
Jane comes from an especially rough childhood, full of turmoil and poverty. Even as a young adult, she battles to make ends meet and has an obsessive ex-boyfriend. A chance meeting of her idol, actress Edwina Rochester, has her suddenly employed as a nanny for the actress's goddaughter, the adorable but struggling young Adele.
Edwina's Thornhill Estate is where Jane meets Mr. Ward Rochester. He is the immensely handsome and wealthy father of Jane's new charge. The chemistry between the two is immediate and hot.
This story takes many sudden, yet well thought out and executed, twists. They keep the reader guessing. Many strange events occur such as odd sounds from the room next to Jane's, things randomly disappearing, and strange notes to Jane showing up just to name a few.
You will have so many questions as you read this novel. Will Jane and Ward become a HEA? Will young Adele be able to flourish? What will happen to Edwina? What about Ms. Fairfax... Will karma finally give her her due?
To get all the answers, take a personal day and give this new classic a read. You won't regret it!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is a contemporary retelling of Jane Eyre. I have to say that this was a great retelling and I loved every single second of reading it. This book has all kinds of suspense happening. A house that has had terrible things happen to people in it. But now Jane has gotten a job to be the nanny of the goddaughter of legendary actress Edwina Rochester who is Jane's idol her entire life. Jane hasn't had the best childhood and now she has this super obsessive ex and a change of scenery to be a Nanny at the famous Thornhill mansion is just what Jane thinks she has been looking for. She and Adele hit if off right from the beginning but Adele is struggling and Mr. Fairfax, the house manager is good gosh I hated that woman!! I literally cringed when she come into a scene and I had to read it. I wanted to throw the kindle up against the wall a time or twenty. She has to be the most horrible character ever written but I can't say that she wasn't written well. Then you have Ward Rochester. Adele's dad and the stunningly handsome mad that Jane can't quit thinking about. There is mystery and death threats, things disappearing and strange happenings in the house that will keep you one the edge of your seat all wrapped up in a love story. I really enjoyed reading this book and hope that y'all do too!!

Jane is not living her best life. She is doing whatever she can to get by, and her current job has her wearing a Smurfette costume and working for tips. She has no one to fall back on since she grew up in the foster care system—and can verify that the bad stuff you hear is true. Jane has dreams but no idea how to make them come true.

As Jane is heading to work, as Smurfette, she helps a woman on the sidewalk and saves her cat from going into traffic! The woman is so grateful that she offers Jane a job on the spot taking care of her young goddaughter, and she won't take no for an answer.

Jane cannot believe her eyes as they enter the gates of Thornhill Estate. And when she realizes the woman sitting next to her is one of her idols, she can't believe it! She knows Mrs. Rochester's story—and the tragedy of her baby's kidnapping many, many years ago.

The things Jane loves about her job are many-sweet, sweet 5-year-old Adele, her new friend, Grace, a long-time employee of Mrs. Rochester's, the time spent with Mrs. Rochester, the roses, and Ward Rochester, Adele's handsome father who is writing Mrs. Rochester's memoir.

Jane does not like: cranky, evil Ms. Fairfax, who is mean to Adele, mean to animals (even if they are snails), demeaning, rude, and aggressive. And Jane does not like the scary sounds in the guest quarters where she stays or that there is no lock on the door. And, especially not the strange notes that keep appearing or the noise she hears.

When Jane and Ward fall in love, they need to keep it a secret, especially from Ms. Fairfax, who can make everyone's lives miserable, especially Jane's. But, there is one other person out to ruin Jane too. And he will kill her if he finds her. Ward has rescued her once, but can anyone be safe with all of the secrets there are at Thornhill Estates?

"Suspense, romance, good, and evil all come together into one fabulous book!"

"I LOVED this book! Every page, every word is so well thought out and fabulous! The character descriptions are great, the mood that is set in each scene...it is like watching a movie in your mind!"

Passionate age-gap romance with intrigue and mystery...Fantastic!
One of the loveliest books of pure fiction that I have read for some time. Beautifully written, well-edited, mysterious, compelling premise with passionate characters. The blurb tells a lot about where Ms. L’Amour wanted this book to go. Read it and see what you think.
Poor 20yo Jane dressed in a hot cartoon character costume must make multiple bus transfers to get to Grauman’s Chinese Theatre for touristy pictures. She hates this job but she needs the money! Pretty humorous in a sad way to see this young woman who needs this gig to pay for rent in an atrocious apartment in a terrible part of town. On her way she helps an older woman who falls on the street near one of Jane’s many bus transfers. The woman turns out to be a former famous actress who Jane has always admired, Edwina Rochester, and she invites Jane to come to her home. Next thing we know, Jane is hired to be a Nanny to Adele. Then we meet Adele’s hunky and older father, Ward Rochester, writer and attentive Godson to Edwina. Ward is thirteen years older than Jane. This fact comes out casually much later.
Jane’s life is forever altered from that fortuitous day but there are many scary moments before she and Ward get their happily-ever-after. There are some awful characters to counterbalance the sweet and loveable ones. There will be strange things happening and a shocking ending. I loved this story and would give it more than five stars if I could. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book. If you like mystery and intrigue with your age-gap romance, read this book. You’ll love it too.

Oh Fantastic I Loved it.!
Jane Eyre is one of my all time favourite romance novels and always has a special place in my heart as it was my first ever encounter with an Alpha male and a strong Heroine and romantic connection when I was an 11 year old girl.
Nelle L Amour has written a beautiful, compelling and mysterious rendition of the classic by Emily Bronte.
This Modern take on the story just swept me away into its whirlwind of a romance story between Jane and Ward, all the bones of the story is there from the classic book Nanny taking care of the heroes child, but in many ways it is different too.Nelle puts her special flair on things that makes the story its own book.
Oh Ward Rochester what a guy !!..argh I loved this sexy broody brute of a man I Loved him.
Jane is so sweet and good and pure but strong too taking care of Ward's daughter....But there is something sinister happening within the house, something dark and a secret that Ward is keeping.
There are unexpected twists and curve balls I honestly had no clue what would happen, and the whole story just surprised me.
I thoroughly enjoyed going on this journey with Jane and Ward,it was such a page turner and I couldn't put it down.It is AMAZING .
A Brilliant read that I highly recommend.

HOLY HELL! I love this author's writing so much, but I have to say she's reached new levels of brilliance with Jane Deyre. I'm sure anyone who has read about this book knows it's a modern twist of Jane Eyre, but still I needed to say it again for those in the back LOL! There's so much mystery to the story with twists in every corner that I'm going to stay vague with this review, especially since I 100% believe going in blind will make it even better. The secrets that don't make friends are ever present with hints sprinkled along the way so I couldn't put it down to save my life as I NEEDED to know everything more than doing anything else. The characters (with a few exceptions) were easy to love from the jump & easy to cheer on as the story goes on so I was fully invested in their story with a (mostly) delightful supporting cast. Everyone NEEDS this book in their lives who read, so get to your one click buttons immediately as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Jane Eyre is my favorite classical novel, so I was very excited to read Jane Deyre. Nelle did a great job in retelling the story and giving her own twists and turns that were different from the classic story. I definitely got the Victorian/gothic vibe throughout the book which was a nice touch. After being introduced to each character, I was hooked to figure out everyone’s mysterious secret! By the end of the story, I was screaming “I KNEW IT!!”. Although I wish the unraveling of the mystery was a bit longer, by the end there was nothing that was left out so it was a satisfying ending overall. There weren’t that many spicy scenes (more is always great) but I was okay with that since I was more focused on the plot and figuring out the mystery. One bonus was that there was a mini public sex scene! That completely surprised me! I had to reread that part to figure out where the MCs were.

The only other reason, I didn’t give it 5 stars is that I was slightly annoyed with the MMC; he would grow to be compassionate but would revert to his old ways when FMC wasn’t with him and that just irked me. In the end, it was a HEA so I was happy with the ending regardless. I definitely enjoyed the book!

This is Nelle L'Amour's best book so far! I was thoroughly entertained and couldn't put it down. It ran in my head like a movie while I was reading and every time I had a chore/work to do, I had to run back to see where the tale would take me next!

Although this is a re-telling of Jane Eyre, it is very distinct, with a feisty heroine and a setting and sense of place that will blow you away. I loved the eerie house and garden, the mist and fog, the sense of unease, that although contemporary in modern day Hollywood, has such a gothic feel.

All the characters are beautifully drawn, from Jane to the complex and often bolshy Mr. Rochester, to Pilote the cat who swishes about the property in his diamanté collar. Little Adele is adorable, and Jane is so loving despite her horrendous history and backstory, which is threaded through the story masterfully with twists and turns you won't see coming.

Oh, and there is a twist of all twists (there are several but one BLEW MY MIND). Totally unexpected. The pace of the book moved so fast toward the end that I did want to savor that twist a little longer before I was hit with another, but did not deter from my total enjoyment of this wonderfully written book.

Bravo, Nelle! I LOVED it!

She is hired to help Edwina's aging housekeeper and soon becomes her goddaughter Adele's nanny. What she doesn't count on is Adele's father Ward being so intense, gorgeous. After being recued from a past bully from foster care, Jane becomes close to the secretive man and share here past. Mystery surrounds the house, Edwina's daughter was abducted from the house, her husband died and her best friend, Ward's mother committed suicide. What other secrets lies behind these walls? Holy Cow what a great book to read - I so enjoyed the twists, turns - the mysterious happenings at the beautiful old estate; they sure kept me wondering what the heck was going on. Don't even get me started on the old b*tch, Ms. Fairfax - what a hag. So mean, to everyone, including her employer.

The story unravels so beautifully, the love that happens between the characters was just lovely - Edwina finds a savior in Jane, Mr. Rochester and Adele, find what they weren't even looking for and Jane finds people, people she can trust and love.

The suspense that brings us into the story, was 'can't put the book down' fantastic. Answers to questions I had through the book, were answered. I was sad to see the book come to an end.

HOLY COW!!

First off, Jane Eyre is one of my all time favorite classics, so I was so excited to read this modern retelling of the story. This book exceeded my expectations, and was full of twists and turns, ups and downs. Jane is such a force to be reckoned with and her relationship with Ward is steamy, sexy, and thrilling. I loved her relationship with Adele as well and how they just bonded right from the start. I LOVE romance but when you add a mystery/thriller sub plot I am 100% in and this book had all of it for me. There were times I was legitimately creeped out and got chills....I cried in some parts, and laughed in other parts. I HIGHLY recommend this book. I am obsessed....I could not put it down and I know it will be a book I go back and reread from time to time!

A modern telling of a classic which brings all the makings of an older man younger woman, although these days age doesn’t really matter, and I think a vicious female character you want to disappear and quick!
An older wiser retired actress and a child that is adorable in the sense that children can be.
Nelle managed twists and turns, some very unexpected and this was a delight to read.
Basically I loved it !!!

Jane Eyre is my second most reread classic. So when I came across the book Jane Deyre, I knew I had to read it.

Jane Deyre is set in modern times but still follows the storyline with a nice little twist. It gave me all the thrills Bronte gave me with her work of art. Thank you, Ms. L'Amour, for being true to the source with a beautiful twist.

This is the story of Jane Deyre, a young woman who enters the household of Thornhill by chance. With one dreadful job after another, Jane feels like her dreams are never coming true. Her traumas from a gruesome past in foster homes are always trying to catch up with her. Here enters Edwina Rochester, hollywood royalty and well known actress, offers Jane a job as the nanny of said actress goddaughter. She’ll have to live in Thornhill, a mansion cursed by tragedy, suicide and kidnaping, where odd noises happen at night and things disapeard mysteriuosly. Little does Jane know how her life will never be the same.
Meeting the love of your life and knowing he keeps secrets close to the vest, are just one of the few things Jane has to learn to deal with. Alongside taking care of little five year old Adele, Jane starts developing feelings for Ward Rochester, father of her charge and godson of Edwina.
This retelling has it all: mystery, drama, romance and laughs, turning it into a very pleasant reading, where you don’t want to put it down and go to sleep. I’ve enjoyed reading this story, it was my first book by Nelle L’Amour, and I must say, it was entertaining and didn’t disappoint one bit. I was engrossed by Jane’s feelings throughout the book, her misery when she feels inadequate for Ward or how she wishes to be part of a world she doesn’t feel worthy of. This bares the question of will Jane be able to see herself as she truly is? Will Ward and her be able to make it with all the secrets surrounding them? and, finally, will the mystery of Edwina’s daughter's kidnapping be solved? You’ll have to read it to find out, I’ll just say you won’t be disappointed.

A classic retold perfectly

A modern retelling of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel Jane Eyre, this book was attention grabbing, passionate, romantic, intriguing, and extremely hard to put down. Nelle L'Amour exceeded every expectation I had of this book, and I'm so pleased as the original has always been a favourite of mine.

Jane is an orphan, a young woman whose life was failed by the foster care system. A chance meeting with her idol, a former famous actress Edwina Rochester, sees Jane taken to Thornhill and employed as a nanny to Adele. She also meets Ward Rochester, Adele's father, a man whose intensity and broodiness draws Jane in.

While Ms. L'Amour beautifully retold Jane's story, she also enhanced it by adding her own special nuances that made me love it even more. I adored Jane's interaction with Adele, the fact that they bonded so quickly and became fast friends was endearing, as was her relationship with Edwina. However, it was the relationship between Jane and Ward that really had my heart melting. Ward is older than Jane by thirteen years, but age is no barrier as the strong young woman and the sexy older man are inexplicably drawn to each other. Mysteries lurk at Thornhill, there's even the rumour of a curse, what is hidden within the walls of Thornhill Estate?

A superb retelling of this classic, with a surprise that brought a smile to my face.

Loved it!

First I have to say that I fell in love with Jane Eyre when I first read it at the age of 10--it was summer, I was at my grandparents', and they had an edition with wonderful woodcut illustrations. I admit that I didn't "get" all the ins and outs of the story, but I understood enough of it to have it make sense to me, and when I re-read it again at 13 it all made sense. This modern-day retelling made me love it even more. Of course some of the characters are "turned around" just a little, and circumstances are changed to fit today's world, plus it's a whole lot steamier than Charlotte Bronte's novel ever though of being, but I had trouble stopping reading long enough to go to sleep at night (because of course I would pick this one for my bedtime reading!) and I stayed up way too late finishing it. It is a delightful piece of writing and well done. Jane Deyre and Ward are an excellent heroine and hero, Miss Fairfax and John Reed suitably nasty as villainess and villain, and if there is ever to be a movie version of this, Dolly Parton MUST play Edwina! I look forward to the author's next "take" on a classic, which is apparently going to be a retelling of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Loved this take on the classic Jane Eyre story! I wasn't sure how it would play out, but it kept me engaged and swiping on my e-reader as quickly as possible to see how everything would play out for Jane. Some characters are easier to embrace than others, especially one side character who had me ready to throat-punch her; I guess that's the sign of a great author when they can create a character the reader wants to maim at some point lol.

First let me start by saying that no book has ever resulted in my shedding a tear until this book.
I really don’t want to give too much of the story away, but as the blurb says, it’s a contemporary retelling, done beautifully.
It’s a story with villains. A story with a hero and heroine that I fell in love with from the very start.
Jane’s hope and optimism despite the cruelness of her early life softened Ward Rochester and warmed his cold heart.
It had twists and turns that I never saw coming.
It had some funny moments too. Adele was a sweetheart. The supporting characters were well developed, and such was the power of the writing, I had a real hatred for two in particular.
It was probably a culmination of the story, which felt epic, and Ms L’Amour’s writing, that had my eyes watering near the end. Because I didn’t want it to end. Yet, I wanted the satisfaction of a HEA. And Jane’s final words in the epilogue made me smile.
To quote Ward Rochester: In one word, it’s a masterpiece

Jane is an orphan who was on the receiving end of how the foster system failed. About Jane, a girl trying to become an actress. Her life growing up was horrific, to say the least. Moved and was abused in the foster system and instead of falling apart from her past, she follows her heart and her vision board to follow her dreams. She saves Edwina and her cat on her way to her job dressed as Smurfette. First of all, any book that begins with the heroine dressed as Smurfette I am here for. Jane agrees to follow Edwina into what would become the next chapter of her life. Jane is struggling when she happens to meet movie star Edwina Rochester. Jane ends up working at Edwina's house which in turn has her becoming Adele's nanny. Adele is the daughter of Wade and the Goddaughter of Edwina. Jane works to fight her attraction to the distant and standoffish Wade. There are rumors of a Curse at the Thornhill the estate of Edwina Rochester.

Wonderful characters, great re-telling of Jane Eyre

Rating: 4.5

This story is a re-telling of Jane Eyre with some twists. At first, for me it started a bit slow but then the action and the twists started coming it from all sides I could not put down my tablet.

The characters in this story have great depth. When strange things started to happen I had my suspects. When the main culprit is revealed, it was not a surprise but the confessions that came with the reveal will be the ultimate shocker.

The main characters Jane, Ward and Edwina will pull at all your emotions! Even Ward's daughter is a draw in the story!!

As this was my first time reading Nelle L'Amour, I did not know what to expect but I will say that I enjoyed this story and look forward tor reading more of her work.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:

Action-packed, Entertaining, Page-turner, Tear-jerker, Twisted, Unpredictable, Wonderful characters

There is a lot that unfolds within the pages of this story that we are given for this Jane Eyre retelling. It is spicy, twisty and just down right engaging. I found myself intrigued from the start, especially with how Jane was found by Edwina. Enter Adele who Jane forms an amazing connection with to how things play out with Ward. Honestly, this is one of those stories that will have you wondering what will happen and how it will all play out. There are characters that you want to rage at as well which grips you even more and have you questioning stuff as things start to happen within that house.
Overall, this is one of those stories that once you get going and get into the groove, you will ignore the world. I devoured it in one sitting because I needed to know more. L’Amour has a unique writing style that will pull you in as well. Between the depth of the story to the concept, this is a book that needs to be read.

Let's start by saying Nelle L'Amour did not disappoint me. Jane Deyre was one giant rollercoaster ride. Nelle L'Amour filled this story with twist and turns that most won't see coming. Nelle L'Amour gives you suspense, mystery, steam and tears. There were many surprises that most won't see coming. I had the big picture figured out, it was the finer details that were off. My biggest complaint was it was a little slow moving. I think because of all the details was the reason for this. I loved Jane she is strong, intelligent and doesn't give up on her dream. I have mixed feelings for Ward he is arrogant, standoffish and very closed off. Thank goodness he finally redeemed himself but it took a long time. I loved Jane Deyre. In my opinion if you are a fan of Nelle L'Amour she doesn't disappoint. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader's copy.

It has all the usual Nelle elements: comedy, mystery suspense, tear-jerking moments, and love in all forms.

This modern-day retelling of the famous Jane Eyre novel was a fun reading. The author's writing just sucked me in and add a child into the mix, and it's a recipe for a fun.

Jane is an orphan who was the receiving end of how the foster system failed. She suffered different kinds of abuse from John Reed but she powered through with her head held up high.

It was kismet that she encountered the famous Edwina Rochester who took her in and that's where she met the mercurial Ward.

Their love story was mostly conflicting and that's what made it better. There's a surprise towards the end and you're in for a treat.

To the not-so-new readers of Nelle, you'll figure out everything because she's been dropping clues along the way.
