9/9/24 This was a really sweet engaging story that I read because I saw the drama had a super high douban score. I also binge watched the drama as soon as I finished the book. Kinda wavering between three and four stars ... so I guess I'll bump this one to four since I'm too lazy to bother with the rest/consider what I liked about the chapters/volumes. I do know I felt it got draggy at times.

Really liked FL in the book - and ML [and felt ML in the drama was great too]. I liked that so many of the women in this book were totally "hey fuck that man" - especially the woman of the plains. "All I needed was a kid, not the trash ass man."

I did get super frustrated about the cousin though I get the author wanted to add more drama and shit. Also that bitch "sworn sister" - like a goddamn cockroach. I LOVED that the empress [the last empress in the book] was basically a crouching tiger, hidden dragon. Would've loved to get more about/from HER. [Also lol maybe I shouldn't have watched the drama before writing this review cuz they're kinda running together.]

LOVED when FL strategized with ML for his take down of the pirates. Also had been so mad at his lies but felt he offered sufficient grovel.
Liked the secondary characters too, and ML's sister getting a second chance romance.

Can't recall if FL had female friends...

Anyway could definitely see myself re-reading this book. Solid C++ maybe even B-?
