Queer Africa was awarded a Lambda Literary Award for best LGBT anthology in 2014. Queer Africa is a collection of unapologetic, tangled, tender, funny, bruising and brilliant stories about the many ways in which we love each other on the continent - In these unafraid stories of intimacy, sweat, betrayal and restless confidences, we accompany characters into cafes, tattoo salons, the barest of bedrooms, coldly gleaming spaces into which the rich withdraw, unlit streets, and their own deepest interiors.
This book gives us a refreshing range of voices from all over the continent and the African diaspora. There were some stories I expected to find and others I could never have predicted but all of them were stories the world needs to hear. A wonderful collection of African short fiction.
There were some great stories in this book but I didn't manage to finish it as I find it hard to read super short story collections. Something with getting into a story and then having to switch to the next story within a couple of pages just doesn't work for me. This book has, however, opened my eyes for queer African literature and I will definitely be exploring the lists Goodreads recommends based on this book.
