Night Shift is the city's thin, silver line- and some nights it's thinner than others. It isn't the fact he almost died last night that's thrown Night Shift officer Kit Marlow. He's used to that. It's the fact that instead of a werewolf trying to rip his throat out, it was his friend and colleague who tried to put him in the ground.

Well, 'friend.'

Now Marlow's been framed for a murder he didn't commit by a man who's committed more than his fair share. Half the cops in San Diego want to see Marlow behind bars for what he's supposedly done, and the other half want him dead before he can tell his side of the story. The problem is that he can't tell them apart.

There's only one person in town that Marlow can trust, even though he knows he shouldn't drag Cade Deacon into his problems. The sharp-tongued CEO of a private security firm might have gotten close to Marlow over the last few weeks, but taking on the SDPD is a lot to ask. Marlow doesn't have much choice, though. If he can't clear his name before the last full moon of the month sets, he might not see another one. That'd be a shame since Marlow would really like to spend the night with Cade without needing protective gear.

4 Finale Hearts!

This is not a standalone book as it continues immediately right after Split Shift ends.

Last we saw Kit, his past was coming back to bite him hard, and he’s forced to go on the run, framed for murder. Dare he ask for help from the guy/wolf he’s reluctantly falling for?

Cade in turn, still doesn't want to admit that Kit has gotten under his skin, but actions speak louder than words when he basically pulls out all the stops for his...boyfriend? It's laughable and cute and endearing that these men don't want to show their cards but end up doing so anyways, and both Cade and Kit are ultimately pushed to the limit in what they’re forced to do for the other and not once, do either hesitate.

For my fellow readers who love nice, neat, and perfectly edited and thoroughly explained, unfortunately, you’re not going to get that here. I know that it's been a point of contention in past Moore works so I’m just warning those who’re wondering!

Regardless, I obviously really liked this series (split into 3 manageable parts), and I’m eternally grateful that I didn’t have to wait long for them to come out. Each installment progressed things enough to make me want more and more, not only in the plot development and main mystery but also in the romance. I’m not saying I don’t like it fast, hard, and wet when the occasion calls for it, but I can pull out some patience and am okay to wait awhile to get the ultimate satisfaction, and I can safely say that I was satisfied.

So again, this is a meaty gritty paranormal romantic suspense that one can really sink their teeth into. Definitely no OTT fluff here but when it counts, it counts. I get the feeling Moore is typically not all hearts and flowers, and it shows. Reassuringly, Cade and Kit win, but not everything is tied up perfectly with a big red bow as the author leaves some things dangling and the bad guy(s) don’t always die a slow, deserved painful death.

Overall, this series only served to put Moore on my radar even further. I look forward to going through her backlog, and I will definitely be checking out any future works she may produce!

Thanks to the author for a copy in exchange for an honest review

A solid ending to this trilogy of Night Shift novellas.

Although I found myself confused within the plot at various points of this series, I still find myself generally impressed with Moore’s distinctive narrative style and unique urban fantasy world-building.

If you enjoy M/M stories with werewolves and humans co-existing, or you’re a sucker for well-developed slow-burn romance, or you just love a good crime procedural, that features a good mystery component and a solid conclusion, then this series of run-on novellas might be the story for you.

Just note, these stories are NOT standalones and are intended to be read in the correct release order (as both book one and two feature MAJOR cliffhangers connecting one story straight into the next).

Nice read, I would definitely not mind a continuation of Cade & Marlow's romance.
The length of it all (short) was perfect for the time I had on hand. Highly recommend it for a fast-paced paranormal fix - Will definitely check out more of T.A.Moore's books in the future.

Great ending. Solid, interesting world building. Compelling characters including women. Absolutely enjoyable. However, this should have been one book, not three novellas.

UPDATE: shit. This author is a Dreamspinner Press apologist who has bullied authors who speak out against this publisher’s financial practices - which are so unbusinesslike as to have gotten them censured by major author associations.

Loved the whole trilogy.
It's a great and easy mystery/crime series with some intense or slightly dark moments. The chemistry between the two main characters was great and I loved the side characters as well. These books are very character driven, because the plot was.. well, not that deep, but I didn't mind.
Will definitely read more by T.A. Moore.

Re-Read 01/2022:
Still a fascinating voice the second time around. Moores writing style is very distinctive, I believe I would know within a few paragraphs if a story is written by her. And the Nightshift series is one of her best works so far. Her wolves are scary and wild and just as attractive as bad boys always are.
---------------
Third and I guess last volume of the Night Shift Series - at least it feels so. Where the 1st and 2nd Volumes ended on major cliff-hangers, the story gets concluded here - both the criminal plot as well the relationship developing between Cade and Marlowe.

T.A. Moores Worldbuilding is full of new and exciting ideas, her characters too are interesting and stand out and the whole story is refreshingly original and very typcial for Moore. So is alas her habit of not giving many descriptions. Still, I liked this world full of deadly wolves, it would be good to see more of it.

I read this story as an azw-file on a Kindle and I had problems with the formatting. Change of perspective was not indicated.

Fantastic end to the series. I loved Marlow and Cade. Both of them are assholes and cocky and idiots and bastards and totally right for each other. I didn't think they could ever be portrayed as cute but they were and credits to the author.

The one thing I knew going into this book was that she couldn’t do it to me again. Thank goodness.

Shiftless is the final novella in the Night Shift trilogy, which meant that the author simply couldn’t end the book on a damn cliffhanger the way that she did the first two books, Shift Work and Split Shift.

Honestly, if she’d managed to do it again anyway I’d have figured out a way to reach through the screen and deliver a Howler from up close and personal because damn that would have been the absolute limit.

Not that I won’t be riveted, again, if the author ever returns to Marlow and Cade’s world. Because it’s fascinating and they’re snarky, hot and a whole lot interesting to follow.

Escape Rating A-: First of all, the Night Shift series isn’t so much a “series” as it is a single story split into three bite-sized pieces. So if you love paranormal romance, if you enjoy enemies-into-lovers, if a world where even though it isn’t quite ours the story still captures your attention from the first page, takes you away and still manages to say quite a bit about our world into the excellent bargain, start with Shift Work and settle in for a compelling ride – and read.

This is a world where werewolves rule, and the laws are bent to fit them, because they have all the power and it seems like a fair amount of the money. One of the things that makes this world a bit different is that being a werewolf also seems to be completely normal – it’s the so-called “nulls” that are weird.

If you’ve ever heard of the 80/20 law, it’s kind of like that, only the proportions aren’t nearly so even. Some people, not a big percentage at all, can’t be turned. They don’t “wolf out” the three nights of the full moon and can’t be changed to do so.

Kit Marlow is one of those nulls. He’s a police officer, a member of the “Night Shift” who works those three nights. Because someone has to serve and protect the people who don’t have an inner wolf – and sometimes even the werewolves need to be protected from themselves or each other.

The problem Kit has – well, he has two, come to think of it. He can’t trust his fellow officers at his back. Too many of them are tied in with the dirty cop he sent to prison a few years ago – and the rest looked the other way. The one person he can trust is the one person he really shouldn’t. Because three nights of the month, Cade Deacon thinks Kit Marlow is dinner – and not in any good way from Kit’s perspective.

But Kit has been framed, and Cade is his only hope of something. Whether that’s rescue, protection or the opportunity to clear his name is to be determined. What they’ll be at the end of it all, if Kit will still be anywhere at all, is anybody’s guess.

So a big part of this story is Kit trying to clear his name. An important part of the story is Kit and Cade trying to figure out what they are to each other, as neither of them has any experience with relationships to begin with – and theirs has the possibility of being especially fraught. The occasionally-partially-resolved sexual tension between the two of them heats up the entire story.

The third part is, in its way, even more interesting. Because Marlow needs to figure out who he’s going to be when this whole mess comes out the other side. Unless he’s dead or in prison and then dead which is still a possibility. He trusts a person who’s supposed to be an enemy way more than anyone who is supposed to be at least a colleague if not a friend. There’s a whole lot wrong with that picture and what that says about the Night Shift in specific and possibly about the real world in general is still keeping me thinking.

I’m going to miss Marlow and Cade and their very fascinating world. While they seem to have reached as much of an HEA as either of them is capable of, I’d love to explore this place more. Lots, lots more.

I was gifted my copy of this book, directly from Ms Moore, and I thank her kindly for that!

This is the third book in the Night Shift trilogy, and you MUST read books one and two first. Preferably back to back! Book one, Shiftwork and book 2, Splitshift, are both cliff hangers are varying sizes and being made to wait between them, has for ME, spoilt my enjoyment a little, I think!

Marlow is being framed for a murder he did not commit and Cade just wants him safe, with him. For all their sharp edges, Cade and Marlow are growing on each other. They just need to clear Marlow's little problem up before the full moon hits, and maybe, just maybe, they can finally have a few moments together!

I loved Shiftwork, it blew me away. But Splitshift and this one, not so much and I *insert wailing sounds* hate that I cannot pinpoint, other than not reading them back to back, why! It bothers me, greatly, when I cannot word what I need to say! But book FEELINGS, people, book feelings need to be shared and I’m-a sharing!

I enjoyed this one more than book 2 though! It rounds everything out, and we get the full story as to what's going on within the Night Shift police department, and with some help from an unexpected source, Marlow is able to finally get to the bottom of who is doing what.

Cade helps, a lot. His feelings (although I'm not entirely sure LOVE is the right word for what Cade feels for Marlow, but it's a powerful emotion!) for Marlow are growing faster than he can keep up with, so bless him, he stops trying.

And it really is wonderful that they get their moment! An uninterrupted, beautifully written, coming together of two souls who really did not want anyone, but finally realised that they NEEDED someone.

Full of the one liners I've come to expect in these three books, the witty "time of the month" jokes, and all manner of violence, I thoroughly enjoyed this, I just couldn't love it as much as book one. And I'm sorry for that!

4.5 stars (not as good as book 1, but better than book 2)

i'm (sadly) a review before read person and i have to say that the bad reviews for this series scared me a little bit. BUT i actually ended up really enjoying this series.

this series consists of three shorter-ish books, and that was actually perfect for me as i'm currently recovering from a major book slump.

✧ this is a wolf shifter story but not as you know it. in comparison with the usual wolf shifter stories, in this one the wolf is NOT your protector or soulmate. wolves can and will absolutely kill you. unless there's the night shift to protect you, the elite (human) cops active during the full moon to deal with these rogue wolves (aka most of society). there isn't a lot of world-building explaining all of this. nothing is explained. you're just gonna have to go with things and figure it out along the way. sometimes world-building in fantasy can be exhausting to read, so if you're craving shifters en fantasy but aren't really in the mood for 1000 words of complicated world-building: THIS is your jam.

✧ i really liked marlow and cade. they're very different from your usual book characters, but in a good way. marlow is tough, or pretends to be, and is not the type of person to run after you (unless you're the wolf trying to kill him). cade had to find this out the hard way ofcourse. cade who is a little bit too arrogant and proud but also a goner for marlow. i really liked how these two perfectly imperfect characters understood each other so well. it took them three books to get together, but considering the time that has passed between them (like a month) that made total sense. and surprisingly, these two even managed to be very cute in the end. even if they would never admit it themselves.

✧ the mystery plot was meh. maybe it's because i've read so many detective books that i could smell everything from a mile away. marlow might not be a detective but i sure as hell am!!!!! but nonetheless that didn't really bother me.

Wow, Night Shift Series has ended and TA Moore has enchanted me yet again. This dark and edgy story has left me feeling sated yet bereft. When I began the first book, I mentioned she had me at hello; now as I turned the last page I had hope we could see them again, in another series working as partners now that they were “a thing” ! How about it Ms. Moore?…..There are still bad guys out there!!!

Seriously, Ms. Moore as taken an edgy story line of werewolves in modern times and the threat they pose on the full moon. As always her characters are not the cute easy going guys you love to love. Cade Deacon and Kit Marlowe work through a bloody storyline of police corruption at its worst. Kit has worked for 6 years being betrayed by everyone he’s ever trusted and keeps coming back for more. When he and Cade start working together sexual tension simmers as Cade begins to think this man might be someone; more than a roll in the hay.

Ms. Moore has a way with her words and ideas that always seem to deal with characters that are wounded /broken, who the reader can understand, wanting them to see the worth in themselves that they don’t see. This gift of hers is pretty amazing.

This last book is as bloody and gory as you can get, and yet soft and gentle at the same time. There is nothing greater for me to have ‘the end’ be sad to let them go, yet fulfilled to have read it. Ms. Moore, this is your legacy for me.

If you haven't started this series yet you definitely should. Be prepared - a lot of snarky, dry humor, banter is hilarious, palpable attraction between the two, but the focus is on the plot with a lot of action and mystery and several multilayered characters. The MC's get to really act on their sizzling attraction in this last book and I absolutely loved it! In my opinion it's one of the the best written "bedroom" scenes ever. I've read hotter, or whatever "er" you can imagine, but this one was so real and characters fitting that it climbed high on the top of my list - memorable! I loved the ending. They get their HEA and all the questions from the past are answered. This installment is definitely the best of this series - I couldn't put it down. It has everything I was hoping for. The world the author created is unique but the plot might be a bit confusing at some points (starting book one) . My advice is to go to authors website and pick up two free novellas - First shift and Shift plan. One is a sort of a prequel - they definitely fill the possible gaps and answer all the questions you might have. Although there's a HEA and according to author this is the end of this series I feel that there's a huge opening for more stories to tell about this couple. I'm certainly hoping to hear more about them in the future. Holding my fingers crossed 🤞

I super enjoyed this series (trilogy?) and would recommend it. At first I was a little worried this would be a situation where one character is kind of a huge asshole but thanks to the alternating perspective (which I always like) we see that the truth is funnier and sweeter.

Cade is a hilarious and lovable character and Marlow was amazing. Marlow's reserve and unrufflability were sweet and honestly as a quieter and very reserved person myself I found it relatable in a way that's sometimes hard to find (this is not a criticism of the prevalence of other character types).

I binged all three of these back to back and would have found it hard to read any of them as stand-alones but the three books form a complete story with resolution.

TA Moore’s books are instant-buys for me, and when this series began with Shift Work, I was hooked.
This final book is just as good as the first two, if not the tiniest bit better as we finally get some answers to the questions we were left with in the previous two installments.
The world building in the book is just so well-crafted that you can smell and taste every little detail as you read. I was honored to have received an ARC copy of this book, and it was so so so good I had to leave a review.
If you haven’t picked up this series yet, you really need to. You won’t be sorry~

This is Book 3 in the Night Shift Series and i doesn't disappoint. It starts off with Kit on the run for a murder he didn't commit. He has no idea which of his colleagues he can trust. Everyone is a suspect except Cade. He turns to Cade to help clear his name and catch the real killer and along the way falls in love. This a another great read by T.A. Moore and I really didn't want it to end. Maybe in the future there will be a spin off for Cade's brother or a few short stories. All 3 books in the series are a great read with plenty of action. I can't wait for the next book.

Shiftless by TA Moore was given to me in exchange for an honest review. The third book in the series was exciting and takes on a ride of emotions as you watch Marlow and Cade work together to clear Marlow’s name. Moore drags you into the craziness during a blue moon and wolves with such beautiful imagery you feel like you are part of the story. I also love the chemistry between Cade and Marlow with the snarkiness and respect for each other is awesome. I couldn't put this book down.

This review and much more can be found at Love Bytes Reviews

Note: This is the third book in this series and does not work as a standalone. This series is more of a serial and thus builds on the previous installment and contains huge spoilers for the previous books.

Book 3 picks up right where we left Cade and Marlow in Book 2. Marlow has been set up. He knows who is behind the continued corruption and who Piper left in charge of the not so legal goings on with the Night Shift. But the problems is he still doesn’t know who else is involved. There is no one at the Night Shift he can trust and when he’s now public enemy number one, there is only one person he can trust. Cade Deacon has proved that he doesn’t take things at face value and he’s had Kit’s back – well when he’s not a wolf 😉

Cade comes through and helps Marlow stay out of sight, but there is a lot more to this than meets the eye. Yes, he’s been framed for murder, but that is honestly the least of his problems. If he’s captured, it’s pretty certain that he’ll never live to tell the tale or solve the mystery of the dead wolf and how a colleague has been able to run the Night Shift without raising any other alarms. Who is he protecting? Who is protecting him? Or is it her? Marlow has his suspicions. But with another full moon, he’s only got so many hours he can even try to figure out how to build the guess and get the evidence.

When Cade’s connections pull through for them, it looks like if they can get through one more night of the full moon, they might be able to exonerate Kit and finally point the finger at the culprit who has taken over Piper’s operation and gone one step further into cold-blooded murder. Because there are two murderers on the loose – not just one. And just when all seems lost, Cade and Kit manage to get the jump on the bad guy in a totally unexpected way. And it’s worth every moment of the series to get him 😀

Finally! I really liked this last installment of this serial, although to be honest, I probably would have liked it more if it had just been one book. I’m not a huge fan of cliffhanger endings, but now that the story is complete, I enjoyed it much more 🙂 Cade really grew on me over the course of the series. There are still some unanswered questions – about his past, his friends, his brother – but we get enough to know that despite his badass snarky veneer, he’s actually a decent guy. Kit is definitely weary in this one – he’s just been on the losing end of things – but despite that, he retains his humanity, does the right thing over and over. He saves the day, his reputation and lives repeatedly in this one without any support from anyone except Cade. I loved seeing him stick it to those who stupidly underestimated him. He solves multiple cases without any police help and I was cheering for him. The secondary characters – whether friend or foe (mostly the latter) – were well written and believable in the context of this story and universe. Bennett, Lem, Jason, O’Hara and others lent an authentic tone to the book that made me want Cade and Kit to come out on top. The heat between Cade and Kit is also turned up in this one – which I’m sure we all had been waiting for. There were some fresh and interesting twists to their interactions that added to the overall tension. And the epilogue was so completely on point 😀

For those who haven’t picked this up yet, I recommend reading all three straight through. Anyone who doesn’t like cliffhangers will be satisfied that the story arc is complete in these three books. Recommended especially for fans of gritty romance, bad guys getting their due and tarnished good guys getting their HEA.

Kit Marlow has gone on the run for a murder he didn’t commit. He has choices: turn himself in, not knowing who he can trust or seek out Cade’s help. He knows turning himself in could very well lead to his demise and the best choice seems to be Cade.

After the full moon night, Cade Deacon has made his way to his office. Lem shows up and has a news video for Cade to watch. Cade knows he needs to protect Marlow. He makes one demand of Lem and that is to find Marlow, no matter what. But Lem has a point, does Cade want to risk everything for a guy he hardly knows?

There’s also decisions that need to be made. Marlow is very dedicated to being Night Shift and he has to weigh the options. What is he willing to give up for the man he’s continued to make a special connection with?

With still lots of investigation, is anyone willing to help Cade and Marlow as they start to dig deeper into the killing and who is really in control Piper or Franklin?

“Shiftless” is the final book from TA Moore for the “Night Shift” series. As always, it’s fast paced action, and a very complex investigation.

Cade and Marlowe, also work on that long awaited connection. Cades vulnerable side comes through even more in this last installment.

Again, Lem is quite the character, he can have his serious moments but he brings lot’s of banter and fun to the story.

I highly recommend reading: “Shift Work” and “Split Shift” before “Shiftless” as the first two novels are cliff hangers and pick up right where the previous leaves off.

I hate that this had to end and I wish there was more to come with this action packed, quirky, paranormal, fun trilogy. But, I know TA Moore will bring something new and exciting to the world of reading!

Setups and serial killers

A great ending to this novella trilogy! There was a sort inevitability building up, that there were no ways out except for some terrible options. But this still managed to take it's own path and being things about to a really great conclusion!

After the past few times waking up after the full moon Cade is no longer positive that Marlow is dead, but does know that things aren't good. Finding out that Marlow has been framed for murder just means the man is out there alive and he can help. Marlow is of a very similar frame of mind and as soon as he can reaches out to Cade for help. So much of this beginning is very telling of how quickly the relationship has progressed between these two. Cade is confident that Marlow didn't murder in cold blood and immediately knows it is a setup, one he can figure out somehow. It is a big sign of how much he trusts Marlow, and the company resources he throws at the problem show how much he cares and is willing to risk. Marlow himself shows his absolute trust in Cade when he calls him immediately. Marlow has always been more of a lone wolf, even in his team dependent work, so reaching out for help with so much faith shows the trust he has built up.

All of these feelings of trust and growing love are important for them to get through the rest of the blue moon and figure out how to protect Marlow. After all, even innocent of Marlow turns himself in with no evidence he may never get back out. The two have to truly work together and see how their relationship can work when under such stress and what they can salvage for a future.

Excellent story with a very well done ending!

This is probably not a *real* 4 stars, the book is way too flawed for that but heck I had fun!

Picking up from book 2, Marlow is being framed for a murder he didn’t commit by his corrupt teammate, and he can only count on Cade to help him clear his name.

“Your move,” Justin said.
Cade laughed at him and leaned back in the chair, arms crossed. “Hell, no,” he said. “I’m not bad in a fight, but you don’t date someone in Night Shift and punch fuckers yourself. Marlow? How much damage could you do in five minutes?”

The story is messy, the worldbuilding still as nonsensical and confusing, which is a shame because it has so much potential but it’s so dysfunctional, lol.

But what I love love love is Cade and Marlow together. I do think their romance went too fast, but these books are SHORT and they are so dam’ GOOD together, I don’t even mind, lol.

“Marlow ignored them all as he scrambled to his feet and staggered over to grab two handfuls of Cade’s bought-used and sweaty T-shirt.
“You fucking asshole,” he said. Then he dragged Cade down into a desperate, hungry kiss that felt like he needed Cade’s breath in his lungs. “I thought you were dead.”
“Now you know what it feels like,” Cade said. He realized that was a mistake immediately and pulled Marlow back. “Sorry. I’m sorry. That was a stupid thing… for your boyfriend to say.”

So yep, apparently I don’t love T. A. Moore’s inconsistent / plot holish lores, but her couples WORK for me!

Shiftless picks up the morning after Split Shift and completes the trilogy. Marlow is on the run after Franklin frames him for murder….and now he knows which dirty cop took over from Piper. What he doesn’t know is how many others are still on board, so he can’t trust anyone. He doesn’t want to drag Cade into his problems but it isn’t like he can trust anyone else; and it isn’t so much dragging Cade in as Cade barreling in and inserting himself. It’s not just all hearts and flowers he assures Marlow; Franklin isn’t someone he can co-exist with professionally, and he’s pretty sure Franklin feels the same way about him.

Cade is still as insecure as ever, despite his outward show of cocky arrogance. Before they take things past the point of no return, Cade tries to give Marlow an out and reminds him: “Last chance for second thoughts. I’m not going to be a better idea tomorrow”; and Marlow has to remind him” “I’m Night Shift, and I'm TAC team. I’m the last bad idea anyone has before they marry an accountant”. It’s fun to watch Cade and Marlow work out their feelings – in a very understated, non-schmaltzy, normal way; and the particulars of their relationship. They both like being in control; but they're also both pragmatic and willing to toss a coin to change things up. The series ends with a decent HEA; but there’s a lot of action, more attempted murders, a serial killer and near deaths along the way.

This is awesome. I've LOVED the entire trilogy (and won't lie, having them all come out so soon together was THRILLING!), and the final installment (I believe) didn't let me down.

Kit and Cade are super hot together, and with Cade being the only one Kit knows he can trust, the stakes are massively raised for them both. Their whole dynamic is wonderfully messy, and I love that in finalising the series, Moore didn't suddenly make them both magically sappy or in sync. There's a really human (haha) vulnerability to both and how they circle one another that I just loved.

This is tightly written, suspenseful and action packed - I'm as much disappointed it's over as I am delighted to have it end so magnificently.

Absolutely could not recommend these book (and EVERYTHING ELSE Moore has even written!) more. I was super fortunate to receive an ARC - I want to thank Moore for asking me if I wanted one, because I was desperate to get my hands on this!

On the run again, Kit Marlow needs to trust those he is trained to fight…
In the last instalment of the Night Shift series, Kit Marlow already know who his real enemy is, and knows he can only trust Cade Deacon, despite the fact that Cade will probably try to kill him, as soon as the full moon is up. Being a wanted man, and on the run, Kit will still prove that he is willing to risk everything to save a friend…. But to what extent can Cade go to protect Kit?
I really enjoyed these three books, the final one is as enticing as the previous two. We see the level of commitment that Kit and Cade have reached in a short period of time… although investigating a murder, and avoiding murders attempts more than once does a lot to help build a strong link. At the end, there is a chance these two achieve their happy end… provide Kit does not put his boyfriend on fire again (LOL)
I liked it a lot
I received a copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
