So this was a good conclusion. I definitely preferred Lucas in this book he just seemed more relatable. As for Ella, she really was quite silly with her behaviour and actions. I think her naivety was quite annoying sometimes but I did like the way she was loyal towards her friends so her potentially stupid actions I could ignore because it was coming from a good place. The ending scene felt a little anti climactic but at least there was a satisfying conclusion. This was a good duet to read and I quite enjoyed it.

The second book of the duet and omg it went with a bang.
Cruel Confessions was gripping from the very beginning as Luca and Ella run from the horror story that is Lucas father.
So many twists and turns and an ending that had me on the edge of my seat - phew what an ending.
Ella's character developed so much in book 2.
A brilliant dark society romance that will leave you on the edge of your seat with an explosive plot.

Vi Carter wrecked me with the conclusion of The Obsessed Duet. If you thought the first book was amazing, it does not hold a light to A Cruel Confession. Ella and Lucas’s story is beautifully dark and, although it is not a fairytale, the love they have for each other is enough to have us root for their happy ending. Lucas is a hero many of us could only dream of; he might be cold, hot tempered, and tainted but he couldn’t be more gentle and caring towards the woman he loves. The wonderstruck I felt towards Lucas’s intense feelings for Ella left me heartbroken to finish their story; there is nothing he wouldn’t do to keep her safe and sheltered from the big cruel world. Ella is one of the strongest heroines I have read; she is never one to coward away no matter how scared she is and her devotion to those she loves and cares about make her a selfless, lovable character. I was immersed in this book and could not believe the twists and turns at every corner. Betrayals are at an all time high as we uncover family secrets and unforgivable actions. Suspense grips at you with each page as Ella and Lucas fight for their freedom and plans to take Andrew down are formed. Frustration was one feeling that carried on throughout the book with Ella’s, Lucas’s, and the secondary character's stubbornness and responses to the circumstances they found themselves in. Above all, the fierceness of Ella and Lucas’s love for each other and their loyalties for those they care about will leave you awestruck. Friendships and alliances are the real showstoppers in this book, without them, Ella and Lucas would not have been able to get the life they dreamed of. The characters are stunningly developed, complex, and layered. Each character’s portrayal is composed to fit the storyline flawlessly, leaving you wanting to know more about each of them. As saddened as I am about the conclusion to Ella and Lucas’s story, I could not have asked for a better plot and characters. I can only hope that we get a story for Ella’s best friends Hannah and Jessie because they were brilliant and deserve their own happy ending.

Sigh... I didn't finish this book. I started skipping from chapter ten until chapter twenty, then I just said fuck it. Ella is sooooo annoying, I just can't. I liked the lovemaking, connection between Ella and Lucas, and how Ella is loyal to her friends, but the plot drags and drags and drags and drags and drags. The two books could have been one book. I did not finish this book.

I don't understand which year they are living in, which country or if it is a made-up world. I don't understand the history nor the hierarchy and how one man is in power. Is he a prince? A real prince or a self-proclaimed prince? How is the country ruled? How long has it been that way? What is the name of that country? What is the history of their mafia? I assume they are in the mafia and they have Irish names, so ... maybe they live in Ireland? But which fucking year in the 21st century?

So many plot holes...

I would recommend this book to people who just like to read to relax, but not read to look for a real plot, logic, and ... sigh... I would recommend it if you would read just about anything.

I loved the first book so much and it was still so fresh in my mind, so when I started reading this book, I was confused. It is not a seamless transition from one book to the next, but as I kept reading I forgot about that. And as things start ramping up...bam! Right back to where things left off from the first book.
I loved Lucas! He was all in with Ella and willing to go to the ends of the earth for her. Ella drove me a bit insane in this book. How can one person be so naive? Repeatedly! She definitely left my nerves frayed.
There was so much intensity in this book! I don’t want to give anything away but I will say this book was fantastic!

Wow! This story had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation trying to see how it is going to end. It is breathtakingly haunting and suspenseful. It is packed full action with twists and turns throughout it. Ella is so head strong and stubborn at times and makes you want to tell her to grow up. But, we do see her grow throughout the story. The characters are beautifully developed and the support characters add so much to the story. It is a little darker but was magnificently written. It is a series that is a must read and doesn’t disappoint!!!!!

I devoured this book! This is Book 2 in this series. I thought the first book was good, and it is, but this book is even better. It keeps you on edge thru it's entirety. Loved Lucas ..and Ella. But at times I was actually talking to my book. Saying to Ella...what are you thinking? And noooo!!! I totally recommend this book! But you need to read Book 1 first. Loved it!

WOW !! I mean OH MY GOODNESS !! This was a phenomenal ending to this duet. Boy does Vi know how to right dark books and get you all up in those feelings. The ending was great!! But I’m gonna say there is definitely a difference between naive and stupidity...and Ella uugghh she was so stupid to do some of the things she did. Now Lucas he did start it by keeping her in the dark but she went way above and beyond stupidity in my opinion. WOW ! I mean that’s all I can really say. WHAT AN AMAZING DARK DUET !! Fantastic job Vi!!

This is the final story of Ella and Lucas's journey. Lucas must find a way to save Ella. His father is determined to force his agenda on to Lucas. He's willing to do everything to keep Ella and Lucas apart, including murder. Although parts of this story are a little hard to believe, especially Ella's ignorance of the danger she's in, I still enjoyed this story. Plenty of intrigue to keep you entertained.

I really enjoyed the first book but this one was even better! Omg the twists and plots and heart in your mouth moments!!! This really keeps you on the edge of your seat, the storyline was totally engaging you really wanted to get to the ending but then again didn’t want it to end to quickly! I will admit that a later epilogue would’ve been the icing on the cake but I really enjoyed this duet. 😁

This book was so good, Lucas will do anything to keep Ella safe. There’s twists, turns, romance, thrills. If l thought book one was fabulous this one was better, l loved it. Ella is a little naive at times by not realising the danger she’s in, Lucas has to use all his resources to ensure she’s kept out of dangers way. A great finish to the duet.

This book is the second half of an awesome duet. Lucas and Ella's saga continues in this nail biting thrill ride. I love everything about this book. The characters, the suspense, and most of all the happily ever after ending. Everyone who had comeuppance coming received what they deserved.

Dnf
This is the first time in my entire reading career that I willingly dnf a book.
The heroine is the dumbest most selfish, annoying, and childish I’ve EVER read and I’ve read a lot of books. Like I cant, i know her character is supposed to be naive but she was plain STUPID. Tell me why after lucas explained a million fucking times to her that they cant go back because it’s dangerous and their’s a bounty on his head and she’s due for a public punishment she still tries to sneak off MULTIPLE TIMES to go and save her ‘friend’ and then when he tells her not to call anyone bc the phone was being traced, she does exactly that and calls her mother. LIKE HOW CAN YOU BE THIS STUPID hes trying to do everything he can to protect her and she was acting like a fucking child. Also when he was angry with her abt the phone incident, she started crying and being like “leave me alone!!!” LIKE BITCH ARE YOU 5 YEARS OLD WHATS WRONG WITH YOU
This is not Ella from book 1. Lucas deserved better.
Now I need to go do some mediation because this book made me lose a few hairs.

This is the conclusion to a duet of twisted dark romance. An anti- hero who becomes the hero that saves not only his girl but the whole twisted society/cult they live in. There’s a lot of action, a lot of convoluted plot twists and everything conveniently ends up HEA. It was a strange and uncomfortable duet all the way through.

This was completely insane. Lots of running. Lots of lies. But luckily lots of love as well. Dangers are fought. Things resolved. It was less dark than first part. Secrets come to light. And happily solution is found. It was an interesting read.

When two lovers run for their lives from a twisted maniac and his crazy spawn, secrets are kept to protect, and to save everyone, they must return to remove the evil master.

Lucas is determined to protect the woman he loves from his egomaniacal father and his lunatic brother, Henry, no matter what it takes. Ella is the only one who can calm Lucas when the anger takes over, but more family secrets may break him. The lies he tells her are to keep her safe. Will she forgive him?

Ella is on the run with Lucas. The man who is her safety. The man she loves. His evil father, Andrew, wants her punished in a brutal way to get her out of his son’s life to marry another. But when Lucas lies to her, she must return to the house of horrors and take matters into her own hands. Will Lucas be able to save her in time?

I was anxious to continue the story of Ella and Lucas when book 1 ended in a cliffhanger and it didn’t disappoint. It is as fast-paced and captivating as the first book with more secrets about Lucas’ dysfunctional family and a cast of some old and new characters. In all, a great ending to a short series. I recommend that one read A Deadly Obsession to get a better understanding of the plotline for book 2.

Discover the dramatic conclusion to Ella and Lucas's story!
by sewsummore

This book is the second book of the "Obsessed Duet," and I recommend that you read the first book before reading this book for clarity and better understanding. Lucas was his father's heir, but an obsession with Ella destroys his chances, and he leaves the family compound taking Ella with him. What follows is a life and death drama, full of suspense and fear as Lucus and Ella seek sanctuary with his father's enemy. With a bounty on their heads, there is only one avenue to travel. Lucas must reveal the truth to his supporters and seek justice for the ones that have died. The relationship between Lucas and Ella is the focus of this book, and when Lucas fails to reveal the truth, Ella disappears and falls under his father's control once again. I found this book an absorbing read. The relationship between Lucas and Ella was complex and uncertain. Ella demanded the truth, and Lucas hid the facts to spare her heartache. To discover the dramatic conclusion to their story, you must read this book for yourself.

This is the conclusion of Ella and Lucas story. The twists and turns, deception, surprises are so much that your head spins. This book truly draws you in from the beginning and doesn't let go till the HEA ending.

Lucas is to marry a spoilt really mean heiress, that hates Ella. Lucas falls in love with Ella, but by taking her virginity, he leaves her in a precarious spot that could mean severe punishment and disfiguration or even her death. To save her, he rescues her and takes her away leaving her two friends behind. Lucas realizes that the only way they will ever be safe is to overthrow his father. His father and his brother Henry in the meanwhile plots to get more control of the town and people and get rid of all the people in their way. When Ella tries to rescue her friends, they drug and use her to get to Lucas and his allies.
Wow talk about nail biting.

This was the second book and the conclusion to Lucas and Ella's story. This was just as thrilling and suspenseful as the first one. Lucas helped Ella escaped and they ran away. Lucas had a bounty on his head but he knows that he needs to set things right. Ella wanted to go back to get her friends who she knows will be in danger because of her. This was a truly a great story. How the main conflict was resolved was not what I expected. And this is what I loved about it, I do not know what will happen next. I cannot say more or I would be giving a lot of spoilers. But just the flow of the story would leave you turning the pages and you wouldn't want to stop until you know how everything will end. At least that was how I felt. So just stick with it. Amazing. Well done!

Do not read this book if you have not read book 1. Having said that, the story and characters are still confusing even if you have read the first book. In trying to be ambiguous and clever the author writes a tale that is circuitous and boring. A reader shouldn't have to read more than a third of the book in order to catch the merest glimpse of the plot. The transition from book 1 to book 2 is not smooth by any means. By the time I'd reached the halfway mark, I didn't care at all about the characters, the plot, or what the point of the story was. This is the second book I have read by the author. I can say without doubt that it will be my last.

After reading (or skimming) book 1, I wanted to see what happened in book 2. I liked it a little more than book 1, only because there wasn’t any OW drama for competing with Lucas through the whole book. I loved the other books by Vi Carter and I’m definitely going to read more, just this duet I didn’t care for. And I really don’t like giving negative reviews. Below are spoilers….

As the book begins, my first impression of Ella is she’s the MOST annoying & childish heroine I think I’ve ever read in a book. Lucas & her are on the run, he’s trying to keep her from being publicly punished & him from marrying someone else, and she’s constantly questioning his every decision. She tries to sneak away to go back and get another girl that was competing for Lucas, Lucas catches her and stops her. He explains how it’s not safe and makes her promise to not to do anything stupid again. Then she realizes he has a phone and wants to call her friend (but like how’s she going to call when she doesn’t have a number & her friend is still at Lucas’s house), Lucas explains it’s not safe and the phone could be traced. So what don’t she do the minute he’s in the shower? Takes the phone to call her mom!! Lucas again catches her and she doesn’t understand how he can use it but she can’t! And because of her stupidity the call was traced & now their being followed, they ditch their car and take off running into a mall. Once again, Ella is so amazed at being in a mall, she can’t believe it! Yet she’s being chased, and Lucas tells her a few minutes prior there’s a bounty on his head, instead of being scared, she’s fascinated by the mall. Then later after they arrive at someone who’s suppose to help them, they’re taken to their room, and one minute she’s building a wall of pillows in the bed for her side and his side, the next she’s wanting him! This is after they’ve done EVERYTHING sexual already, so why’s she’s needing a pillow wall is beyond me.
Then just when I think she’s starting to see the dangers and she’ll listen to Lucas, she gets an idea to sneak away from the safe house they’re staying in and return to rescue 2 girls being held in the cell at Lucas’s father house! This is after several people arrived declaring they all wanted to take Lucas’s father down and everyone came up with a plan. But stupidly she sneaks out and goes back only to get caught. She’s locked in the cell with Henry (crazy half brother) by the girl who was supposed to marry Lucas, and who’s always a b**ch. Henry ends up having his own key, opens the door and kills her. Ella runs, escaping and going to her house. She tries to tell her mom everything, but Lucas’s father shows up and tells her mom that’s she’s having a break down and isn’t well. He actually managed to convince Ella that she imagined everything with Lucas!! He takes her back to his house and keeps her drugged. But of course after more ridiculous stuff, Lucas saves her, Henry kills their dad, Lucas kills Henry, and everything is fine after that.

Book 1 - 3.5 Stars.
Book 2 - 4 Stars.

Narrated in Dual POV.
Continuation of book 1, not a Standalone.

Books were written amazingly as well as Lucas & Ella's characters.

In beginning I thought I was not going to like Lucas because of his actions but slowly he made his way into my heart.
His love and protectiveness for Ella makes his other dis-qualities less important.

"She is the ground under my feet. The wall at my back. She is what makes my heart beat.
She is my strength and my weakness. She is my everything."

Ella was like a little naive girl in the beginning but she was fierce too.
Her love and forgiveness for Lucas, even after he did some bad things shows the beauty of her character. Also she was a true friend too, never leaving her friends in bad times, even doing stupid and dangerous things to protect them.

“All I wanted was you.” I look up at him now as tears stream down my face.
“Then I met you and you were so horrible.” Salty tears escape into my mouth. I half smile.
“All the stories at bedtime were lies and it hurt.”
“Ella.” Lucas’ voice is haunted with pain.
“Then you kissed me and each kiss healed everything in me and I got more than some story. I was living it.” I take a breath as I control the wave of emotions.
“I don’t regret it, Lucas. I don’t regret you.”

Overall I enjoyed reading the books but I just wanted a little more drama in the climax.

On the run for their lives....he will do anything to keep her safe and with him

A Cruel Confession is the second book in The Obsessed Duet and continues the dark, twisted and interesting suspenseful romance. It is the story of Lucas and Ella and a "society" where things are not quite what they seem at first glance.
This book picks up where A Deadly Obsession ended so these must be read in order to understand the story and characters. Ella and Lucas are now on the run from his father with a bounty on Lucas's head. Lucas is in love with Ella as she is with him. He will do whatever it takes to keep her safe and protected from his father and the rest of the society. But Ella does not listen to Lucas and understand how dangerous the situation they find themselves in is. It results in them almost being killed.
For me this second book was a letdown after the amazing first book. I found the story to still be good but I wanted to knock Ella upside the head more than a few times. The other thing that I missed was the sensuous sex between them. It was just missing which I thought was strange as they are on the run to be together. I still enjoyed the conclusion but it missed the bulleye for me.

I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Where do I even start?

This, to me, is one of them books that you don't really like, but you're curious how it ends, so you keep reading knowing it's still going to be a waste of your time. The idea of the story is good, but that's it.
Lucas, I liked him. Ella, not so much. How old was she even supposed to be in this? The author made her seem like some 13 year old idiot. They way she wrote Lucas had me thinking he was a man in his mid 20s, but after finding out that Henry was only 30, yet 11 years older than Lucas would put Lucas at 19 so the story really didn't add up with his age. Ella is much like those ignorant chicks in horror flicks that shout "who's there" as if the killer is going to respond. Or the one that runs from the killer but instead of running to safety, run upstairs with no exit and trips on her way. Her personality was very child like and extremely annoying and unlikable.
This is just my opinion on this duet. I have read other things from this author that I did like.

Lucas & Ella: The Grand Finale!!!

A Cruel Confession by Vi Carter it's the 2nd book in The Obsessed Duet and must be read after A Cruel Obsession.
I liked this book: it wraped things really nice for Lucas, Ella and the others, but it was a bit predictable IMO, and for that reason I liked book #1 the most. Don't get me wrong, it was a riveting and twisted tale full of angst, betrayal and gritty moments, but at times, Ella's behavior got a little on my nerves: she knew what Andrew and Henry were capable of, but thought herself able to rescue her friends without a plan. She should have trusted Lucas more as soon as they escaped the house.
This is a very well written story, an unusual one for that matter that is very refreshing due to the originality of the plot. Different and pretty good!

It's rare that the second book of a duet is better than the first, but this one is. Lucas and Ella’s story takes up where it left off In book1. His father is determined Lucas will marry his choice and Ella is not that. For Lucas there is no other women he wants, he is fiercely protective and passionately in love with Ella. Ella is equally in love with Lucas, she is willing to do whatever to keep them both safe. This book is full of twists, turns, drama, a few surprises, and steaminess. This book is well paced and an absolute page turner from start to finish. This duet is a must read and with your KU Subscription it's a free read!!
