This is so intense! My heart's still hammering, won't settle for a minute. So many death that I cried and got frustrated even though I know Boichi and Inagaki will make them survive. What is revival fluid for anyway?

It came down to Science Junior Brigade's last resort—to petrify the whole world to save it. Thanks to Whyman's static voice command. Interesting new characters (that already showed up from the previous volumes and I forgot to mention). Suika managed to get revived after being rained with the revival fluid in Medusa Tower. With Suika alone in the world, it gave us a chance to see her work with science by trial and error which is delightful. Just like what Senku said—it doesn't matter if he's there or not. Science is for everyone, you'll do it if you follow one painstaking step at a time. This volume time skipped to 7 years after the world petrification—and now let's see how this life-long battle with Whyman will end in the last few volumes...

I'm so excited!!

To say I cried is an UNDERSTATEMENT CAUSE WTF WAS THIS VOLUME. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY LOST. WHAT DO YOU MEAN MOST OF THEM DIED. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY ALL GOT PETRIFIED. WHAT DO YOU MEAN SUIKA WAS ALL ALONE IN THE WORLD FOR SEVEN YEARS. 😭😭😭😭😭😭. My heart broke so much for this volume💔.
At least Suika succeeded and now Senku is alive again😝

I think this might one of the best volumes in the series (to me at least), it’s just really good. The whole first half was really exciting and you get to see all your favorite characters get shot to death. A few scenes I really liked out of that were: Tsukasa’s little dying monologue, Xeno and Senku’s final moments before being petrified (like Xeno relating his childhood to Senku’s), Luna fucking up the revival fluid toss (love her), Stanley accepting defeat in his little monologue and getting one last smoke in, and in general the fucking plan of petrifying the whole world (again) to win (definitely other moments cause this was good). Also the fucking section with Suika being all alone really got to me honestly, especially how she collected all of the stone statues and started mimicking Senku (just like this is just sad what the fuck how dare you make me feel). Anyways good volume

If you thought this series had hit a "darkest hour" earlier, THIS IS THE BLACKEST NIGHT!
But leave it up to these clever dudes to come up with a mutual-destruction-but-not-really plan that REALLY effs up everyone.
Leaving the one "survivor" to be the little girl on the cover. Can she be the savior of them all?

Chapters 188 to 196 - I have seen the most beautiful characters and world conceived in this volume. After reading it, you are left stunned and mesmerized by the grandeur of the things unfolding on this series 😁📖!

So many emotional moments in this volume! Seeing Hyoga and Taiju die and Suika having to figure out how to make the revival fluid all on her own, alone for years, really made me cry. Sure, Senku woke up alone too - but he wasn't just a kid who saw all of his friends get shot and killed in front of him. Suika's growth is something I really look forward to seeing more of.

I am re-reading these arbitrarily, since I have the whole* series and plan to keep it, so my focus tends to be on books I've either checked out from the library or picked up from various sources to review before donating to a free library.

The anime has caught up to this volume this week, though, so I really wanted to comment on it somehow!

The main thing I want to note is, of course, it being volume 22 of a long-running story means it's not going to be that friendly to complete newcomers, since this volume in particular leans extremely heavily on established story that new readers will not have the context for. For returning readers, though, this is a HUGE payoff for the investment so far, with some of the highest drama I've seen in a shounen title** culminating in .

For anyone with a heart, this is a gut-wrenching book to read for that reason. For a long time, it gave me existential nightmares when I happened to see ONLY the last few minutes of Time Bandits, where . I'd long had severe anxiety about suddenly being on my own without any kind of support whatsoever, so this is kind of a chronicle of the worst-case scenario for Child Me.

The ending is extremely filled with hope, though, so it's a very satisfying read, even considering .

Now, imagine the anime ending its season in the same place! What a frustrating wait, even if it *is* sort of a good stopping point! Nope, the anime will continue at least one more episode, though the next season will definitely be the "last" one.***

I think the only thing I don't like in this is it really did take me seeing it animated to "click" that the "Junior Science Team" really had been . I normally have trouble parsing action sequences in manga, but it was a bit frustrating to re-read this and see how I completely missed what had happened.

But then, that's why I often end up watching the anime even for titles that seem mediocre if I've read the manga (or manhwa) first. Maybe I'll understand better if I can see it move! It helps with action titles, certainly!

Anyway, very satisfying read... for fans. Probably a solid block of confusion to anyone COMPLETELY new.

*except the surprise sequel...? which I looked for in the store but didn't find and haven't special ordered because my Special Order List would be every book in existence that even slightly interests me, and I don't need the decision paralysis

**usually, people dying For Real, but not actually For Real because that's not satisfying—that's absolutely the case here, but the HIGHLY IMPROBABLE reason that they can come back and why has long been established

***unless the sequel goes on long enough?

5/5 Stars (%87/100)

I really enjoyed this one. The battle against Xeno and Stanley's crew continues. In the previous volume, it was revealed that the aim of our heroes was to petrify everyone so that they can win the war and save everyone later on. Well, the plan works but some unexpected things happen as well (which I'm not going to spoil). The last few chapters were brilliant. I especially liked the parallels between these and the chapters at the beginning of the series. The ending is also super cool. I'm enjoying the series a lot right now.

There was something oddly therapeutic about this volume, watching characters I hate be murdered over and over again. Surprisingly violent, undercut by the knowledge that when this happened with Tsukasa and Ginro they would just petrify and unpetrify and be done... and yeah that's their plan... so what's the tension? Either they succeed, so the battle doesn't matter, or they don't succeed, and the story is over.

But at least we avoided lewding the toddler long enough that they're not a toddler anymore so it's fine to draw them in questionable poses yayyyyyyyyyy

So we get the big war between Stanely's forces and Senku's group to finally end in a surprising way as we basically get a restart to the series as Senku not only figures out how the Petrification devices work but also activates one like the one that was used at the beginning of the series forcing humanity to be come statues yet again. I am not sure how I feel about this as their are some really intense scenes with Senku's forces slowly getting killed off and I wonder if those deaths are now going to be retconned because of this new petrification.

Because this series is all about saving everyone and never letting blood flow, I was quite shocked by this volume. It almost brought me to tears. Where's the next one? 😩

What a whirlwind volume. One thing I thought was missing from the last several volumes was great character moments. Too many characters introduced left too little focus on the core cast. But this volume managed to combine everything I have loved about this series into an amazing culmination.

5/5 Probably the best volume of Dr. Stone. Tense and action packed with some huge story moments and moving sequences. The final confrontation with Stanley and his soldiers. The battle so huge it spills over back to North America. And out girl Suika gets some pivotal screen time. Really good stuff.

Suika, Senku, Kohaku, & Kiseki on the cover of volume 22.

Bring out the tissues for this volume...even though I knew everything would turn out all right, this was a rough one. (And I'm gonna be a mess when this gets animated!) Still, the story continues to be excellent, I was on the edge of my seat! Another great volume.
(Also, hugs for Suika!)
