I’ve had a crush on Lucas Harley, the alpha’s son, since fifth grade. So when one moonlit night reveals Lucas and I are fated mates, I think I’m lucky. I have no idea my happy life in the Northwoods pack is about to crumble.
Lucas isn’t the only one drawn to me. When I’m attacked by a stalker with supernatural powers, I do everything I can to save myself… and I accidentally reveal my abilities to the human world.
Lucas rejects me. My pack turns on me. And I find myself kidnapped by surly shifters and taken away to Reject Island, where the unwanted—and unstable—wolves are both abandoned and guarded, until they can prove themselves worthy.
My stalker is still out there, still hunting me. Now he thinks I’m an easy target. But I’m determined to redeem myself by destroying him.
And as I get to know my grouchy but gorgeous guards, I realize I need more than redemption.
I need revenge on not only my stalker, but Lucas and the pack who wronged me. And I need a second chance at love.
Shameful is a standalone reverse harem romance that is part of the Reject Island shared world, which can be ready in any order. If you don't enjoy rejected mates, cocky shifters, snarky heroines and hot scenes, back away now.
The storyline was really good. I enjoyed where it went it was full of action and love and humour. All tho some things left me confused and wondering about things and the ending kinda felt a bit fast or maybe rushed for my liking. But otherwise I did enjoy the book.
2 pages in and we're talking about a college-level math being about multiplying fractions? ______ DNFing @ Ch 8. I can't. This reads like an underdeveloped fanfiction. The chapters are way too short and the writing feels basic. I'm not invested in the FMC's character. She seems so wishy washy. Do you like him or not? Be one or the other. It's like the author is trying to plant a seed that we shouldn't like the MMC but it clouds the interact of the FMC. The random chapter with some guy on an island are the only world building we get. Who is he?! And if you're here for tropes, even that didn't work. They're supposed to be "fated mates" but... nothing happens? They "find" each other in the woods like it's supposed to be special. Also, FMC is presented in the most annoying way. Perfect warrior, is soo perfect, all other girls are jealous, but FMc doesn't realize how special she is. Gag. Also how in the hell is this 74 chapters, but less than 300 pages?
Good stand alone reverse harem. Interesting characters and plot.
Plot was good with 2 mysteries though I think the ghost mystery was rushed at the end … not sure how she figured out who the killer was and what he went on to do after unless I missed a few pages 🤨.
On the night of the supermoon, Legacy goes out determined that her long-term crush, Lucas, is her fated mate. But it seems that he's not the only one out there waiting for her. In an unfortunate turn of events, Legacy finds herself fighting for her life- as well as the secrecy of the pack. Sadly, she manages to accomplish one but the Alpha, as well as Lucas, don't believe her and in fact, blame her for near exposure. They send her away to Reject Island where her only companions are 3 other male wolves that can barely get along. Can Legacy get them on side and prove her innocence. And if she does, does she want her old life back or is there something more?
I absolutely love May Dawson! Her storytelling is brilliantly weaved and you get completely lost in her books. The world-building is so precise that you feel like these places exist and can be accessed at any time. I felt like I was a part of the story the whole time. The characters are so rich and full-bodied as well. There are the clear bad guys and the bad guys who are really good. You find yourself taking a liking to them and can immediately identify your favorites! The writing flows really well and there is never a moment of "wait, what?" all your questions are answered and it is wrapped up brilliantly.
This book never really has any dull moments. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and you don't want it to end! It is a stand-alone book so all the ends are tied up- though I would love to have more of these characters! The banter and the sass that go on really does make you laugh out loud! Another brilliant book by May Dawson!
The first half was pretty good and then it went to shit. Needs some serious editing. Robotic sentences, nothing made sense, no character depth, and repetitive. They always talked about West being a psycho but we literally get no indication he is. The RH was VERY imbalanced. Legacy said that she would come back to the island and help free the ghost and yet when she leaves she said she's never going back and legit let one of her men go back and have to live there? By himself? Alot of things happened in the background, nothing was explained and you had to figure everything out yourself. Not sure how a powerful vampire turned into a scared crying mess in the end? The ending was dumb.
Despite reading this series out of order (this is my 3rd book), I'm loving it so much. Though I did confuse myself a little with a reference in another book to this one that made me think the outcome would be different. I'm so glad it wasn't!
These three men? Gah - I love them all so much. Killian, our somewhat surly, ever serious alpha should-be; West, our super surly, secretly musical surprise and Rhett, always optimistic, sweet and adorable lover.
These three pick up the pieces when Legacy is rejected by her fated mate, who continues to mess with her through their bond. Legacy is kick-ass and I love that about the hs in this series. They have no fucks to give and it's glorious!
The background story of the ghosts on Reject Island was a solid one and added a nice extra PN component. And the ending? Perfect!
I think I've found another author to add to my endless tbr
And bonus? The sequel to book 2 is FINALLY out so I can read that one
Legacy Quinn sees herself as having a great life within her pack. She’s got a wonderful, loving family, she’s well-liked, she’s kind, strong, knows what she wants, and she can hold her own in a fight, and she has a best friend who is more like family. She also has her eyes on the alpha’s son, Lucas, whom she’s had a crush on forever. When a traditional moonlight ritual reveals Lucas as her fated mate, Legacy thinks her happy life just turned perfect in every way. Little does she know her entire world is about to crumble and nothing will ever be the same again.
After a terrifying experience she barely survives her fate is sealed when she accidentally reveals herself to the human world. She’s thrust from the only life she’s ever known, separated from her family, and forced into exile by the Alpha after being rejected by Lucas, her new found mate, and her pack.
Lies, betrayal, rejection, turmoil, devastation, and heart ache follow Legacy as she’s taken to Reject Island for ‘redemption’ in order to return to the pack someday. Though now without the safety of her family and pack she’s still being hunted by her stalker and additionally tormented by Lucas in unexpected ways.
Her only hope for survival and redemption will be with help from the other shifters she’s exiled with on Reject Island but they each have problems of their own and adding Legacy to the mix really upsets their plans. The more she gets to know her fellow captives and learns about their island refuge, the more questions she has about everything. The only thing she does know for sure is that she has to get off the island, find her stalker, and confront Lucas and his father so she can be free and grab on to her second chance at love.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved that it was a standalone, it’s written from multiple POVs which gives it the added depth and emotions needed to build a great story, and all the added nuances that helped make the story unique. It’s full of suspense, mystery, action, emotional entanglements, and steamy scenes. I also enjoyed how Legacy formed bonds with each of the guys and that they each had a distinct personality that balanced her and the others well. It’s a real page-turner that's hard to put down.
A lot of it was really good. It had a really good rejected mate storyline even with tying the vamps into the story — but the whole ghost thing that was thrown in was just so random and weird idk it didn’t vibe with me lol
If you like the shifter rejected mate trope it’s worth a read but keep in mind there is some weird ghost stuff.
She went from a Virgin rejected mate to having a harem with 3 chosen mates fyi, so there’s quite a bit of smut.
Anyway, all the books in the series are stand alone, so I’m not going to prioritize the series right now but I will add it to my tbr and randomly read them when I’m in the mood for some rejected mates drama.
I was chuffed to bits this was a standalone because once i started reading it i didnt want to wait to read it all. It completely drew me in. Legacy (FMC) is a strong character but you dont really find out much about that or are shown it (i think) until shes sent to Reject Island. After being exiled there by her Alpha and his son Lucas. Rejection, underhand people, plot twists and backstories this book has all that. As well as 3 wolves - Killian, Rhett and West who also inhabit Reject Island. The dynamic between them all definitely heated up my kindle thats for sure. A bloody brilliant read
I’ve been craving shifters (as I always do), so this book dropped at just the right time. It’s a stand-alone rejected mates book, which is all part of a shared world with other authors. But you don’t have to have read any of the others to read this.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Legacy is a BA shifter who was totally shafted. But you know what they say, “every cloud has a silver lining” and all that. She may have been wronged, but she sets out to not only make things right for herself, but to make them right for the other pack members she meets on Reject Island.
It’s a really good book with a great plot. I fell in love with Legacy and the guys (Rhett, be still my heart) and I was actually sad to see the book end.
May Dawson has another great series start with this book. Wolves, vampires, ghosts, rejected mate, an alpha a-hole, this book has it all. When Legacy is blamed for wrong doing and weakness to survive being rejected by her mate, she thought her world was coming to an end by being sent to Reject Island to "recover" from her rejection and the punishment for an infraction of shifter law. The island is a whole new experience for her and the three hot male protective rejects from her pack are her failsafe and strength as she finds new purpose and direction in her life. A good read that has all the ups, downs and feels you could want. Enjoy!
This was such an amazing read. This book is a standalone story about a girl called Legacy. Who ends up being sent to reject island by Lucas and his dad the Alpha. This is where we meet Rhett, West and Killian. The other great thing about this book is that you get to read from each guys pov as well as her pov. With being a standalone book it makes this a hot fast- paced why choose read. That you won't be able to put down.
I loved this reverse harem romance. We meet Legacy who seems to have it all including the perfect fated mate until one night she makes a mistake and is rejected by said mate and her pack and banished to rejects island. Say what?? It’s a story about heartbreak, betrayal, lies and of course rejection but it’s also emotional and full of suspense, and a little mystery, oh and steam, such hot hot sizzling steam!!! There’s also action, some super hot guys and twists and turns to keep you guessing and the world building is incredible. Loved the storyline and I loved the characters!
May Dawson did it again I could not put this book down I read it one sitting. It has rejection by fated mates. Vampires, ghosts. Legacy is rejected by her mate and banished to rejected island. She meets guys that she knew when she was younger Killian, Rhett and West who become very protective of her. There is a lot of twists and turns along with some kick ass fighting. There is so much more I can say but I don't want to spoil anything. If I could give 10 stars I would.
I am...SO MAD. Its been awhile since I picked up a book, and literally DIDN'T WANT to put it down. My children hated me. Where is mom?! She's reading.
The twists, the story, the 'romance' all of it. So good. I wish I could even put in half a thought at how much I loved this friggen book. Give it a read. If you like sexy broooooooody men, ghosts and ghoulies - then this is for you.
Another amazing story from May Dawson. In this we Legacy, just a girl who wants to find her fated mate. Not too much to ask for right? Then one night something happens to her, no one believes her and she's sent away to live on Reject Island. There she comes across a mystery, men who will change her life forever and maybe even finally find herself. This is a standalone and it is seriously hard to put down once you start reading it.
I loved this!!!! May Dawson has done an amazing job of writing such a, cant stop reading plot. I needed to know what happened next, I just could not stop reading.
Legacy my girl, you have been through so much and you deserve every bit of happiness. This is your journey, one that will show you that where one door may close, another will open.
Reject Island may just hold her salvation and her future. Well Done May!
Started out so well, even with the younger sounding feel to it. Was well written, with an interesting plot, good dialogue, and just enough description, without it distracting from the pace.
Then approx in the last 1/3, it started shifting. First it was an issue of repetition, both in word use, and information. There was also some small issues with story continuity, where previous conditions and rules seemed to be forgotten or ignored. This continued to worsen as the story progressed. We went from creative storytelling, to numerous classic mistakes-tropes.
Such as; serious injures miraculously disappearing from one moment to the next; villains swinging from being brilliant and superb strategists, to crazy, predictable, and unintelligent; further, who can’t be defeated and repeatedly and miraculously escaping (while all the red-shirts are killed or caught); to being effortlessly overcome by the hero’s at the appropriate moment; fighting skills that improved or disappeared according to the plot direction; and dialogue that became stilted and cringeworthy.
By the end, it was all schmaltzy and very predictable, with the conflict resolutions suddenly all too easy and simplistic. Solutions so straight forward, you have to wonder why they weren’t attempted sooner?
A sad way to finish a story that started out with such strong promise. I have to wonder if the author was on a tightening deadline, or just in a hurry to finish? It read as if that last section was still an early draft awaiting editing…
Regardless, it’s still worth reading, and has more than enough early on, to make the effort of skimming or filling in where required, to be an acceptable compromise in order to reach its conclusion.
Shameful is a standalone RH rejected mates story. I really enjoyed this story. I really liked Legacy. She was a strong, kind, caring woman who thought she lucked out being mated to the Alpha’s son, Lucas. Of course, that all changes one night when she was attacked and risked exposing herself as a wolf shifter to the humans. This book was amazing and I couldn’t put it down! If you like RH, rejected mates, and hot, sexy shifters you need to check this book out!
This book blew me away. What an adventure reading this was. I didn't want to put it down and needed to know what was going to happen next. It was a great ending but I still am left wanting more!!!! Wow I cannot wait to read the next standalone book in this series!!! Simply Amazing!!!
It read like a first time author-fanfiction. Not great… Interesting idea but lots of repeated sentences (example. “I had a crush on him growing up!” WE KNOW YOU ALREADY SAID IT A THOUSAND TIMES) and clinches. Definitely jerky writing in places and the constant POV switches was confusing especially since none of the POV inner-voices sounded different from one another.
4++! A great standalone that has ties to other books coming. This book had mate rejected and tortured through that bond, corruption, secrets and a longtime mystery. I really enjoyed the whole thing!
Needs some editing and readers to catch the many inconsistencies that appeared throughout the book. I stopped keeping track of them after a while, but the most egregious was the FMC somehow (off page) developing a connection with the ghosts of the manor and vowing to come back to help them, and then later swearing that she didn't ever want to go back to the island and only going back because she was forced to. She said and did whatever was needed when it was needed, and then it was like it was forgotten later. Or like how one neither comments that the woman at the bar they often went to was supposedly into his brother, but when they later actually went there with the FMC, she had her own harem of men and she only barely tolerated the MMCs.
This storyline was so, so, so good, but the execution left a lot to be desired. Everything emotional happens off the page so I have idea how a relationship developed between not only the FMC and her guys, but also how or when the guys forgave each other, or even when they decided to share, because it all just sort of happened whenever it was most convenient for the story, no matter what had previously happened in the pages just before.
Things are just rushed through so by the end of the book it still felt like only a few days had passed, but it was actually weeks. One relationship is severely underdeveloped while the majority of the time is spent on the other two relationships. The ending didn't give us much, and we barely got a few sentences about how things were wrapped up, and nothing about how they were settling into their new roles and lives together. I really just wish we had gotten more from this story than we did because it's one of my favorite tropes.
Spoilery edit: I forgot to mention how sis went from being a virgin to riding on top her first time with zero instruction and was *good* at it (because of course), to having sex again a few hours later with another virgin in the exact same way, to MINUTES later becoming a double stuffed oreo with both men, with the newly non-virgin taking her ass. I just--what in the Wattpad is this??
DNF - quit at 15% The story seemed very heavy handed. A lot of stuff was going on in different places, without any intro or world building, without reading the blurb, a reader would be totally lost. I had no idea where it was going with so many points of views from chapter to chapter. I think an author needs to be careful about the points of view changes before the reader is even hooked in to wanting to continue reading, otherwise it overwhelms the readers. That's what happened to me (& I did read the blurb), I lost interest in the story because it was too jarring going from one character/location to another & then jumping back to the FMC & trying to get back into what happened previously before being interrupted by a whole other POV from a different place (we read about the FMC & wanting to find her mate, then we are jarred out of that to the island to some guys who we have no clue who they are in relation to the story except from the blurb & what those guys are doing in that instant that has nothing to do with her wanting to find her mate -in that moment in time, then we get sent back to her situation in the next POV). Instead of just following thru to the FMC being exiled without other POV's, it skips around from POV to POV for different aspects in the story & different people. It simply would have read better to keep to her POV until she's exiled, then to go to the other POV's for the other characters. There were too many characters introduced in the first 15%, with not enough background or personality development to even sort out if I like any of them or not, or to at least figure out if I want to continue reading. I was getting dizzy just trying to keep all the guys sorted out.
At my age (60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
This is the first book I read in the Reject Island series. This book is by May Dawson, but each book in the series is a standalone, written by different authors. There is no particular order one needs to follow in this series. The only constant is “The Island” where the various wolf packs deposit their rejects. In this case, it was wolf shifters who were too close to uncovering their alpha’s deceit to maintain control of the pack.
Our Heroine, Legacy, is a pretty strong FMC. She’s been trained as a strong warrior and I loved the fact that we actually get to see her fight - like seriously landing and taking punches. I love strong women, especially ones with a sense of humor. Her sarcastic comebacks are hilarious I found myself literally LOL’ing at times. I think the repartee between her and her men, this is a RH story, is one of the things I loved the most about this book.
While I loved all her men, oh my I cannot help but LOVE Rhett the most. Such a great character, charm, wit, smoking body . . . Oof! Rhett’s twin brother, West is in the harem and has a very stoic, hard exterior but is pretty vulnerable on the inside. Our final MMC is Killian. Killian was the object of many a school girls desire back when Legacy entered high school. While I’m not a huge fan of RH, this one worked well for me. I think my main problem with them is most of the time the plot is built around the smut. Where here, the plot is stronger and the smut is just a nice byproduct. It doesn’t overpower the storyline.
I really enjoyed this book and do recommend it, especially if you like the rejected mates trope. I do plan on continuing with another book in this series.
Watch the changes in the point of view, they can be confusing if you miss them. There is a lot of sexual tension, bloody violence, and lots of RH explicit sex. This is not a book for everyone, but fans of May Dawson's other books will be pleased and satisfied especially as this is a stand-alone. Legacy and best friend Tania are in college but both are shifter wolves and are trying to blend in with the human students. Tania wants to leave the pack, Legacy hopes to mate with the alpha's son. The supermoon tonight is the time for finding a fated mate. Legacy and Lucas find each other but Lucas is too domineering. Is he really the right one for her? A Vampire attacks Legacy, almost killing her and blaming Lucas for this attack. She is not believed, is blamed for almost exposing shifters and other paras, is taken to Castle Island by Rhett and West to be with other rejects, and living in the haunted castle with unfriendly ghosts. Lucas tries to break his mating bond with Legacy by having random sex, which Legacy can feel as pain. She can only escape it by having sex herself, with Rhett or West or Killian or preferably, all three. The showdown with Tobias finally unfolds as Legacy and her men try to take down the vengeful vampire. Many secrets and corruption come to light as the exciting climax comes to a bloody, violent end for some who deserve it, and HEA for others who deserve it.
First, I must say that it's a good story, so why two stars? Well, I don't know why authors, at least the ones that I have read, don't develops very well all partners in RH. The FMC always spend more time with one or two, in this case, and the other partners are left out. Killian is left out in this story, Legacy doesn't trust him so she spends more time with Rhett, but she's planning on mating him too (when? At the end of the story?? She spent all her teenage years having a crush on him..but suddenly he has to wait until she clears her name, so Rhett and West get her first). Meanwhile we have to read about his jealousy and bad feelings because he thinks he's not worthy. Even West spent more time with Legacy.
For about 75% of the story there are too many loose topics to resolve, and, magically everything is explained. Come on!! Then, I don't understand why classify the story as RH when we don't get to know each partner. It seems that the author decides at the end that FMC needs another mate just because, otherwise it will not be a RH story.
Legacy is struggling with the bond, she loves Lucas, but she can mate others..and Lucas is the bad guy... (For real??) As I wrote before is a good story, but needs more chapters and development, it's too short for everything that happens, and of course, a change of classification, maybe MMF but not RH.

First book by this author and I really enjoyed the writing and the story.
The FMC Legacy thinks her life is as smooth as everyone planned for her. She’s the daughter of the pack Alpha’s head of security, she’s a good girl, a good wolf and her fated mate is the pack alphas son. One night she comes across a man who tries to hurt her, he’s exacting revenge against her fated mate, but when she tries to tell her pack what happened they don’t believe her. She needs to be punished for almost exposing them to the human world and that means exile on Reject Island.
The MMC’s Rhett, West and Killian are all inhabitants of this exiled isle and know that they’ve been deceived by their pack alpha. Once a reject no one listens and no one cares. So when Legacy is brought to live with them and is in danger no one will acknowledge it’s time for everyone to stop hiding.
This book had an interesting plot with the supernatural twists, the betrayals and uncovering the truth. I enjoyed the relationships and building between the FMC’s and the MMC’s.
I did feel some aspects were a little rushed in areas and slower in others and parts were a little unnecessary to the general story but I enjoyed the read and found this a nice easy book to fall into.
