Rise Again Warrior #2

Mission: Accept

Rate this book
Mission: Accept is the second story in the Rise Again Warrior series.

Dana Donahue might be Shane Logan’s cousin, but she’s nothing like him—she’s quite the opposite of him. Her thoughts focus on what money and people can do for her. She never approved of Shane joining the military and knows little about the world he has lived in for most of his life. All that will change when she has to ask him for a job after her father cuts her off.

Derek Stall lives on the streets by choice—not circumstance. Memories of what he did under order sometimes haunt him, other times give him the strength to move through one more day until he can finish the mission he started.

A chance meeting between Dana and Derek will lead to an unlikely friendship that might just save his life, but the drastic differences between them could be the dividing wedge that keeps them apart.

When Derek feels he has to leave Rise Again Warrior to complete his mission, he begins to realize that he could be leaving behind more than just a few friends. Could he be leaving behind the possibility of a healthy future before he finally accepts his past?

The next book in the Rise Again Warrior Series, Mission: Repair, will be released in November 2020 for Veteran's Day.

I hope everyone has read the first book in this series. This series is so good and written so well that I did not want to put the book down. This is NOT a frivolous book that is taken lightly. I admire Ms. Eaton for showcasing military men and women and some of the problems they face when coming home. The book is so interesting. I am learning so much about these brave individuals as well as enjoying a love story. I was so glad to see Dana’s father take most of her money away from her and force her to get a jobs they are rich. It is so sad to think how many people are so oblivious to the struggles of many people in the world, and only think about themselves and what they need. Dana’s cousin Shane started Rise Again Warrior to help returning military slowly acclimate back into society. Shane gives Dana a job, not believing she will carry through. Dana meets a homeless man one day and gives him her breakfast. My heart went out to Derek for what happened to him as a sharp shooter. I can’t imagine how hard it is to forgive yourself for the things he did. I loved hearing about the organization and meeting some of the characters that worked and lived at the facility. I can’t tell you how much my heart was touched with this story. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Oh these books are just amazing! I recently read book one and it left me speechless and just sat for a while once I finished it and this second book is every bit as good! The emotions in these stories is incredible and more then once i have found myself in tears as I am stunned by some of the problems service men and women have to face when returning home. These stories are amazing journeys, complete eye openers and everyone should read them, really I cannot recommend them enough!

This was an incredible book of hope, sadness, despair, and real life people. When I read the first Rise Again Warrior Mission:Believe, I was blown away by the book. The author has put so much reality in the characters it pulls you into it. In this book, people from the first book show up and it builds up on all that is happening with veterans from different ranks of the military. This could be any of us with a loved one in the service, such as me. But by reading it, it gives me hope that this is really happening in our country. Most of us know there are a lot of our veterans not getting the help they need. The story was about a rich young lady whose father thought she could do something and took away her money and condo. She meets a homeless man and strangely they become friends, a different type of friends. Read the book and see the change to daddy’s little girl, Dana and a verteran deals with his demons. God Bless America and all the Warriors who keep us safe. I look forward or, should I say I hope, there are more books in this series.

The first thing I will say about this book, is if Dana bugs you, stick with it. She'll change and grow on you. I say that because the first few chapters I wanted to punch her in the nose and also because it shows what a great writer that Stacy is because in the end, I really grew to like Dana.
While this is book 2, you could read it as a stand alone.
This story is a bit more emotional than the first book in the series, at least for me, and there were a few places that it made me tear up. It's a good emotional journey though, not one of those exhausting ones. You get to see real growth in both characters, you get a glimpse of their past and the hope of their future. The book deals with very real issues but does it in a beautiful way. I truly enjoyed it and I recommend it to all.

Ms. Eaton is a new author for me, and after reading this story , I have become a fan.
Aside from an engaging storyline and interesting characters, what grabbed my attention was the theme.
While the brave men and women are willing to put themselves in danger to allow us at home to live in a free country, we forget that they need our support upon their return. Especially, because many suffer not only physical but also emotional and psychologically.
Kudos to the author for that reminder.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Derek Stall is living on the street as penance for a mistake when he was a Navy SEAL. Dana Donahue has just had her monthly stipend drastically cut by her parents due to being a spoiled brat. Instead of living in the penthouse, she has to move down to the 3rd floor. In order to support herself, Dana goes to work for the non-profit Rise Again Warrior. This book covers the problems of drug addiction and homelessness in the veterans of our nation and contains plenty of romance. Very highly recommended.

Another great book in this series! Derek has been through so much and is struggling to move forward. Dana has always had a life of privilege but may be just what Derek needs if she can open her eyes and see what is going on.

This by far is the best book that Stacy Eaton has ever written! So So So emotional, you will need tissues! Ms. Eaton opens our eyes, once again, to the trials that our veterans face when they return from war. The things they see, the things they suffer, the way that they are treated. This is a must read! The writing is incredible.

2nd in the series. Normally I would say you can read Stacy's series in any order. Not so much this one. I started this book, stopped to reread the first one before continuing. The continuity of this story is important. These are intense reads - while one could classify as a romance this is so much more -this shows a journey that is representative of many of our service members returning home. Stacy has managed to capture the depth of emotions of veterans as well as those who care about them. Highly recommend this read. I put it down only so it would not end too soon - I didn't want to let go of these characters. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

Mission: Accept
Rise Again Warrior Series, Book 2
By: Stacy Eaton
Narrated by: Ryan Clark
Series: Rise Again Warrior Series, Book 2

Stacy Eaton delivers another awesome novel in her “Rise Again Warrior” series, a series I am loving, not only are the stories and characters amazing but the books contain so much heart and brings out my patriotic pride and respect for those who served and sacrificed so much for our beloved country. I recommend starting with the first book in the series “Mission: Believe” it sets the foundation for the concept of “Rise Again Warrior” a non-profit organization and program to help returning soldiers acclimate back to civilian life. This book is Derek Stall and Dana Donahues story, Derek, a former Navy Seal, has not had the easiest of times, he deals with memories of a mission gone wrong and haunting guilt. He lives on the streets, surviving day by day. Dana Donahue is a spoiled, prima donna who lives off of her families’ wealth, she has no responsibilities, that is until her parents cut her off to teach her a lesson. She is on the phone with her father while sitting on a park bench trying to change his mind, Derek was asleep under the bench and heard the whole conversation. Two people living two very different lives meet and start talking, it was an eye opener for her but there was something about Derek that go to her, she just did not know it at the time. She goes to to see her cousin Shane Logan about a job and gets hired to work along side, Nate. This book is raw and real, the story is brilliantly plotted and I loved how it all plays out. I also loved how clueless Dana was at first and how much she grew as a person by the end. The same for Derek, with the help of others he learns to live again and see things in a different light, copes with his PTSD and survivor’s guilt. Stacy Eaton, thank you for another amazing novel, it is a story I can not praise or recommend enough.

I listened to the Audible edition, Ryan Clark is the perfect narrator to bring Stacey Eaton’s characters and story to life. You could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures the character emotions and projects them into his performance. His portrayal of the characters is spot on as he truly grasps each of their personas and makes the role his own. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. I loved touching performance at the end too. Thank you for another awesome listen 🎧

This is book two in The Rise Again Warrior Series and it is Dana and Derek's story and omg what an emotional ride this book will take you on. Derek used to be a navy seal but when a mission went wrong he decided to leave and that has left him on the streets trying to make amends for what happened and that is where he meets the women that he can't stop thinking about even though he knows that nothing will ever come of it. Dana was from high society, she is a snob, spoilt, vain and took life for granted so when her parents cut all her money off and told her to get a job she was outraged as she had never worked in her life but she decided to go and ask her cousin Shane for a job as he owned and ran The Rise Again Warrior or RAW as.it was known as which helped veterans get help and improve there lives. Dana and Derek meet in the park where he is sleeping and Dana starts taking food to Derek who then surprises her by giving some of it to other homeless people and this forms a friendship between them but it is a very difficult one as Derek doesn't think that he deserves anything in life after what he had done but as Dana gets more into her job she realised that she wants to help more than she already has. When Derek goes to Dana's and when she is attacked he is stabbed so she takes him to RAW so he can be taken care of but he doesn't stay as he has a final mission to do. I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series as Stacy Eaton certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention as this book grabs you right from the first page and to the last and I couldn't put it down as it was so addictive and I had to keep turning the pages to see what would happen and and there are many twists and turns along with emotional situations that you will not see coming. I definitely recommend you read this book, series and other books by Stacy and you will definitely not be disappointed.

Ms. Eaton has another winner here. This second book of the series shows someone finally realizing her life is more than just about her. Dana slowly changes both her attitude and her life. The right person came along at just the right moment. I didn't like her at first and even rolled my eyes when she opened her mouth. Derek is a man you would probably cross the street so you didn't have to walk by him. You would probably turn your nose up coming up with your own reason as to why he is as he is. Would you shake his hand? Would you talk to him? Would you even offer a helping hand?

This story may bring a tear to your eye as you listen to what Derek had to endure because of what he did for us. His story was as meaningful as Shane's. It was also just as inspirational. Our author shows that we need to help people just for the sake of lending a hand to a group that has a meaningful purpose. She also shows that you may not think you have any skills to help an organization but certain jobs you can learn as you go. It's also a great way to say thank you for everything some of us take for granted.

I was happy to see that Mr. Clark returned to narrate again for Ms. Eaton. He did a great job with the male characters and brought them all to life. He also made it very easy for me to picture every scene as it played out. He does an all right job with the women.

This was another book that I had no trouble getting lost in that had me forgetting what I was doing. Both the narrator and author have me impatiently waiting for book three in this series to come out. I know I could just buy the book and read it myself but I want the narrator to bring the author's words to life because there's no way that I can do that.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I found this book even more heart wrenching than the first one (Mission: Believe). I think it's because we knew from the beginning of Believe that Shane had lost a leg, and he came from a well-off family so could afford the best prosthetic. Whereas in Accept we don't know why Derek is homeless, so we have to wait to get his backstory. Meanwhile, we meet Dana, Shane's 33 year old cousin who is spoilt by her parents and has never done a days work in her life...until her Dad cuts her off. It was a pretty quick transformation of character, but once she saw how the other half lived, and took pity on the homeless scruff (Derek) and showed him some kindness, her character began to evolve. And working at RAW turned her into a completely different person. The scene in the church with Derek and Mrs Hemlock was so tear jerking, I went through a few tissues. But there is an overriding theme of kindness through this book; when Dana gives Derek some breakfast and he shares it with another homeless person; when Derek buys boots for the homeless guy who can't get work due to his tattered shoes; the treatment and care that Derek receives at Raw. This book has all the feels. And even when Shane makes Derek face his fears, it seems harsh but he needs it to be able to move on. And what happens in the latter part of the book is due to Derek's redemption.
This is an excellent series that shows different sides of what members of the military have to deal with when they get home from active service. It really makes you think.
I'm looking forward to Book 3.

Stacy Eaton is one of my favorite authors and her audio books are top notch! This story grabbed me from the first line and I could not stop until the last word. Her awareness to details bring out the difficulties and emotional health of our veterans, and I absolutely love that. Meeting Derek, we find a veteran who has chosen to be homeless as he tries to work through his experiences. Dana encounters him on the street the day she is cut off by her father and is forced to learn to be an adult. Little do these two know the impact of giving him a pastry will make on their lives. Circumstances bring these two together on more than one occasion, and her ocean eyes begin to cloud his dreams. And who would think this homeless, scruffy man would be attractive to her? But it's so much more than their budding romance. It's learning the value of life, the sacrifices people make, the compassion you have for others, things are not always as they seem and you never know the real person by looking at them. It's a fantastic listen, one that has impacted me and I am anxiously awaiting Mission: Repair!

Ryan Clark continues his narration of this series, and he has a knack for these types of characters. He understands Derek so well that his narration exudes all the emotional turmoil that is going on in Derek, just with his voice. I really was impressed with his portrayal of Derek. As Dana, he showed her maturity and growth with nuances and inflections that let us feel the change in her. It was a great listen and one everyone should grab!

This second book in the Rise Again Warrior series is just as emotional and powerful as the first. Discovering that her parents have decided that the lifestyle they introduced her to should be withdrawn until Dana has learned a few lessons, was a total shock. Didn't they realise that compassion and a sense of responsibility are learned behaviour? Nevertheless, Dana has more gumption than they gave her credit for and when she asks her cousin Shane for a job, she gets stuck in and actually makes a go of it. However, the homeless man who sleeps under the bench near her apartment has taken up residence in her mind. Comparing his behaviour with the residents of RAW, she realises that he is a military man, but before she can invite him to the facility, Derek is forced to go to her rescue and lands up at RAW anyway. A friendship develops between the unlikely pair and with time Dana begins to understand just how troubled Derek is. Her concern for him gives him the motivation to face his fears, but not without extreme trepidation and many raw tears. This incredibly emotional novel had me wiping my eyes and I felt relief at the final outcome. Despite the painful context of this book, it is not without humour and wit. It is also very well written and despite being part of a series, it is a standalone and comes to a good conclusion. I received a copy of this romance as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

4 1/2 Star Review.....

Mission: Accept is the second book in Stacy Eaton’s Rise Again Warrior series and another fast-paced, action packed and profoundly emotional story that delves deeply into the lives of those who protect and serve their country and the ramifications of that service and the physical and psychological fall out when they return home. It’s important to read these stories in order as each flows into the next and the continuity of the foundation is paramount for full understanding. Dana and Derek are from completely different walks of life and at first, it’s hard to fathom they could possibly have a future, but as Dana interacts with the veterans she finally realises that not everyone is born with a silver spoon and the men and women who serve their countries are far too often disguarded and treated with contempt. Ms Eaton writes powerful and exceedingly raw stories that highlight the failings of those who shun the needy and the veterans who have given everything for our way of life. Many tissues are needed when reading these stories, but they have important messages that we all should acknowledge. As much as these books rip apart my heart and soul, I’m eager to read the next in the series.

Wow!!! Just wow!! This story has just left me in a book funk. It is so darn good!! I don’t want to start reading anything else. I feel as though through reading both of the Rise Again Warrior books I’m having my eyes opened up, like Dana’s, to many of the problems facing the men and women of the military when they come back home after tours of duty. These stories have had emotional impacts on my life each time I read one. And man have I shed some tears while reading them.

Derek and the life he lead in the military was so emotionally hard on him. And facing those demons back state side proves so difficult for him. In comes Dana that doesn’t have a clue about anything. She’s never felt hardship or tragedy with daddy paying for everything. She takes everything for granted. Well daddy decides to turn Dana’s world upside down while Derek accidentally overhears everything. Can Dana’s eyes be opened or will she go through life a spoiled brat expecting everything to be handed to her? With daddy cutting her expenses way down, her parents suggest Dana ask for a job from her cousin Shane at Rise Again Warrior. No one has any idea of the eye opening journey this sets Dana on and how an accidental meeting on the streets with a homeless Derek will impact their lives.

Mission: Accept by Stacy Eaton is the second book in the Rise Again Warrior Series and definitely worth reading if you love stories that revolve around military, family and friends.
Dana has no idea what it takes to make it in the real world because her parents have always given her everything she wants and needs, but her father has had enough with her selfish ways. He is cutting her off and expects her to get a job so he suggests she ask her cousin Shane who started and runs RAW, a place where former military personnel can go to heal emotionally, mentally and physically in order to make their way in the civilian world.
Derek is a homeless veteran by choice and wonders why Dana even bothers to make an effort to be nice to him until one night he saves her from being attacked and she does everything that she can to make sure that he survives. They form a bond, but since they are so different the friendship is really unstable and might not last not only because of their many difference, but also because of his past.
I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more in the future.
I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Phenomenal story. Absolutely phenomenal. This author has treated the returned men and women with so much dignity and compassion. I would recommend this book to anyone - 100%. Dana is a spoilt society girl until one day her parents cut her off. They want her to learn a lesson in compassion and empathy. She is moved from the penthouse to a much smaller apartment and now has to pay all of her own expenses. Whoah! How on earth is this society princess supposed to work for a living? Even though she has a business degree. Derek is a veteran living on the streets. They meet when she is having a conversation with her father on the phone outside near the bench Derek sleeps under. He can hear everything. When she sits on the bench, they both end up having a conversation. Dana ends up going to her cousin Shane to ask him for a job. Expecting it to be in a cushy office, she is astounded to see that she will be on the ground running, working for Rise Again Warriors. I just cannot convey just how much I enjoyed this book and the first one. I am really looking forward to seeing just what this author comes up with the third book.

Dana is a spoiled rich girl who is cut off by her parents because she is directionless. Derek is a homeless veteran who carries a lot of guilt around for what happened when he was a Navy Seal sniper.

Dana meets Derek by accident on the streets and they keep running back into each other as Dana begins to realize that there is a lot more going on around her than worries about shoes and penthouse apartments.

When her dad cuts her off, he suggests she approach her cousin Shane about a job. Shane founded Rise again warrior, and he offers Dana a job at the ground floor, literally. Rise Again Warrior is a project to help veterans accept and overcome the baggage of war and move on to re-join society. Gradually, Dana begins to learn about the problems the veterans have and the need for a place like Rise up Warrior.

I enjoyed the book. It is challenging in places because of all the hurt and emotional scars of the numerous characters, but rewarding with more than one happy ending. This book is well worth your time.

Powerful! Tear-jerking, heart stopping, shattering!
Dana and Derek story ripped me in half. I loved the first in the Rise Again Warrior Series with Lauren and Shane's story but with this book, wow Stacey Eaton outdid herself ! First book in a long time that sinks in so deep in my soul. Mission: Accept brings out a side of the aftermath of the war on our soldiers. We see all the struggles our Veterans go thru once they are back in the civil world and how much they are forgotten and not respected for all they do to make sure we are safe and free.
Dana's life takes a curve ball and I enjoyed seeing her taking charge of her life, finding a meaningful job and how she opens up to the unknown.
Derek, well I wanted to help carry his sorrow. How he has the weight of the world on his shoulder and the pain of the guilt he bears is so well written, I could almost imagine what it would be like.
Looking forward for the next one

**Edit to Post**
I read this book when it was first released. I just listened to the audio book. It is better the second time around. I love the narration of Rich Clark.
Dana was a spoiled brat. In her 30s she had no job and she living off her Dad's fortune. Until he finally put a stop to it, he cut her off. Forced to get a job, she went to her cousin at RAW. Being the spoiled snab she was she thought she would get a cushy position. That was not the case at all.
Derek was a damaged homeless vet. The things he had done have tortured him mentally.
Derek and Dana met while spoiled Dana was arguing on the phine with her dad. The unlikely two became friends.
What an emotional journey you go on with these characters. Tissues are a must have. I thought book 1 was amazing. This 2nd is fantastic. You don't have to read book 1. However, I highly recommend you do.

Family tough love

At the beginning of this book Dana is a stuck up socialite with nothing better to do than spend her father's money. Things change for her when her father cuts her allowance, moves her into a smaller house and forces her to get a job. She meets Derek, who is homeless, by accident before she goes to find a job. They have some kind of connection but he refuses to let her help him. Dana next goes to her cousin Shane for a job working at his non profit organization for ex veterans. This is really where she completely changes and finds her true purpose in life. She keeps encountering Derek and it isn't until Derek is forced to stay at Ride Again Warrior that a real connection between these two happens. I cried buckets of tears reading this book as it is so powerful but it made me smile loads to and I will definitely be reading this book many times.

Accept, the second book in the Rise Again Warrior Series is just as good or even better than the first book. Stacy Eaton captured the very essence of the characters and their complex emotions. The story itself is exquisitely written, poignant, authentic, and a tear-jerker. The characters are phenomenally developed; there was real growth in both characters, especially in Dana. Derek and Dana's journey is one of violence, regret, anguish, acceptance, forgiveness, and love. I love this series so much because it reminds us of the physical and psychological challenges our veterans face when back home.

An outstanding performance by Ryan Clark! He emulated the characters' personalities, emotions, and connection flawlessly, further engaging the listeners. Overall, Accept is a heartwrenching story with a beautiful ending and one I'll strongly recommend.

I really enjoyed this story. It started out a little confusing and I didn't see how they could even think about a relationship. Dana grew from the self-centered creature she was before her father cut her off to the self aware person that she became. Derek already self aware, but on a mission he was having a hard time accepting. It's the reason that he is living on the streets. This story makes you aware of the actual living conditions and what the homeless actually do to survive. It's the reason why they can't accept help and the reason why we can't understand. What Rise Again Warrior does for the veteran homeless goes well beyond other services do. The story is excellent and makes Derek face his mission and what he wants in his life.

Talk about a gut check! Even though I’ve never lived a privileged life as the h in this book, I am guilty of sometimes not really seeing the homeless and being empathetic to whatever they may be experiencing.
I enjoyed book 1 but this story moved me. We take for granted the sacrifices made by our service members and their families for the freedoms that we enjoy. This book delves into this and gives us the POV of a rich heiress and that of a homeless vet, who is running from his demons. It is well developed and well written. This is a great series that I highly recommend…just keep a box of tissues at hand.

A great story. Truly inspiring. Dana and Derek are delightful. The growth which Dana undergoes is phenomenal as is the recovery which Derek attains. The style, bouncing back and forth between the two main characters, worked for the most part, however there was occasionally a bit too much repetition. The story falls short of an HEA, but has superb potential so, nonetheless, I feel it's a great story.

Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Haunting. Inspirational. Romantic. Scary. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

The saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" definitely fits Dana and Derek - the main characters of this book! She's a spoiled rich girl who never worked a day in her life and he's a homeless Veteran. When their worlds collide together, both of their lives change in ways that they never could imagine! This is definitely a must-read and while it can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading book 1 first! Author Stacy Eaton is an amazing writer...from her storylines, her attention to factual details, and the way she gets all of your emotions going is just incredible!
