Summer Murdock As a top Manhattan realtor, my work is my life. It doesn’t bother me that I’m still single at thirty or that my assistant is my only friend. I like it that way. But now I’m being tasked with selling my late grandmother’s house in Havila Springs. A small tourist town in the middle of the desert. I lived there briefly during high school and fell hard for the local bad boy, Graison Wells. He broke my heart, and I ran back to New York as fast as I could. It’s been over a decade since I’ve been back or thought about Graison, so my goal for the next forty-eight hours is to handle Grandma Bea’s affairs then get the hell out of town before running into anyone from my past.Graison WellsI only have one regret in my life, and her name is Summer Murdock. It was love at first sight until I had no choice but to let her go. That was over ten years ago, and now my life is busy raising a daughter and running a business. The last thing I have time for is Summer coming back to town with her golden legs and sexy smile. I fell for that once, and I’m not gonna let it happen it again. Here's what you can expect from Return to ♥ Sassy East Coast heroine ♥ Sexy restaurateur love interest ♥ Hip desert backdrop♥ Enemies to lovers, slow burn ♥ Second chance romance ♥ Flirty & steamy with all the feels♥ Guaranteed Happily Ever After*Return to Summer is a stand-alone contemporary romance for 18-year-old + readers
Return To Summer is a quick read, I finished it in one sitting. It's a sweet and cute story about Summer and Graison, who were high school lovers in a small desert town. After graduation, they broke up, and Summer left town. But now she is back, and they meet up? Will they rekindle, or are the scares of the past too big? I loved Graison, he wasn't only hot, he also had a big heart. Summer needed to realize something. The lesson she had to learn was very familiar to me, and I think many other people will recognize the situation. Return to Summer is a good story, but in my opinion, it would improve by fleshing it out. We see both main characters' insight into the situation, but the author skipped a few stages that people go through in that situation. For example, Summer and Kerri getting to know each other better is one of the stages that would have made the story more complete. There was a good build-up to the sex, and it was well written. If you need a quick read and like a mildly steamy, second chance story set in a small town, I recommend Return to Summer by Krista Harper.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Summer is a spicy New Yorker which is the perfect juxtaposition to Graison and his sweet small-town heart. These two fell in love once years ago and didn't realize it until they meet again over a decade later but they've never actually fallen out of love with each other.
This book tugs at your heartstrings as it pulls you from Graison's perspective to Summers and you can't help but root for these two to figure it out and get together!
This is the second book of Krista's that I have read. I just adore how she has the ability to suck you in fast, making it hard to put her books down. I hope Krista's future holds more from Havila Springs!

Title: Return to Summer Author: Krista Harper Hero/Heroine: Graison & Summer Trope: Second Chance Romance
THE GOOD 😁
I love a second chance romance, there’s just something about two characters who drift apart for one reason or another who then find themselves back together. Such is the case with our hero and heroine, Graison and Summer. They had an intense relationship during their last year of school, however, due to reasons unknown to Summer, Graison breaks up with her and she leaves their small town to attend university in New York. Back in the small town of Havila Springs over a decade later to sort out her late grandmothers house, Summer is forced to confront all of those old feelings of hurt and rejection when faced with Graison once again. Both Graison and Summer are dealing with their own issues; Graison is a single parent and trying to provide a stable upbringing for his daughter, and Summer is tackling feelings of guilt over the fact that she didn’t spend any time with her grandmother before she died. When they both open up and start talking about the past, truths are unearthed about what really happened regarding their break up. I loved the slow burn aspect of this story and the fact that they didn’t just jump straight back into a relationship with one another, they had a number of hurdles they had to get over first. A low angst, feel good story with a few will-they-won’t-they moments, Return to Summer was the perfect escapist read.
THE BAD 🙁
Nothing too bad as such, but I would like to have read more about Graison’s daughter Kerri. I felt that we didn’t really get to witness much of the father daughter relationship between them.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: A feel good second chance romance in an idyllic setting STEAM LEVEL: 🔥🔥 STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Return to Summer was everything that I wanted it to be, and then some. When Summer returns to Havila to take care of her grandparents house, in the wake of her grandmother's passing, she's met with those small town vibes and old memories she's been dreading. However, Havila is now taking its turn in the 21st century and is becoming a bustling little oasis of new, organic, artsy, and delicious - which totally catches Summer off guard.
Coming from New York City, where she fled to start her life after graduating high school a decade before, Summer is expecting the same run down desert hole she'd left alone. That can be a little jarring (said coming from an NEPA girl whose small, farm based hometown is now a hipster haven). Then she runs in to Graison and BOOM we go from jarred to tripping head over heels in love for the book's smarmy leading man.
Graison, single dad, business man, and Summer's first love is the right amount of steamy and accomplished that makes a fantastic romance even better. Watching Graison and Summer interact with each other, the flirting and the fun, was a treat. And knowing that some choices had to be made... it was a little surprising watching the two of them come back together for a sweet, subtle love.
Harper's writing is energetic and sweet, and has the ability to make a person feel good. The enjoyment, and the utter sweetness, that Harper threw in to Return to Summer was warm and wonderful. I will definitely be recommending this to anyone who likes sweet romances and cute towns.
Thank you to NetGalley, Southside Mountain Press and Krista Harper for gifting me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! . QOTD: How was your weekend? My A: BUSY. We drove 4hrs round trip for a baby shower and then drove another 2hrs the next day to pick up our new kitten. Where’s a four day weekend when you really need one?! . This was my first Krista Harper novel and I finished it in one sitting while snuggling my new guy this afternoon! With a fast paced plot and easily likeable characters, it’s not hard to get sucked into this one. A little second chance romance and a whole lotta chemistry between Graison and Summer keeps you on your toes without being too crazy in the angst department. I will say things starting to feel a little too fast paced towards the end. This is one of those books where things wrap up almost too well. I would’ve loved to see the lead up to the romance drag on a little longer, let the characters yearn a little, you know? I also wish we’d gotten more of Kerrie and Graison’s parents! I think his story could’ve been a great one if the plot had been flushed out and dragged out a little further. . This is a great book if you’re looking for something to read poolside or in the afternoon relaxing. A quick read, sweet plot and HAE, what more can you really ask for in a romance?
This story was a delight to read. A second chance/ slow burn romance with all the feels!!!
Summer and Grayson were High School sweet hearts but a misunderstanding makes this couple fall apart. Summer goes to New York but after her grandmother passes away she comes back. Ten long years have pass and Summer is not the care free girl she once was. Now her life is all work.
Grayson is now a business owner and devoted father, but he hasn't forgotten about Summer and how things were left between each other.
Their relationship has so many bumps, their chemistry is there but the doubts and insecurities are also there.
What I really liked about this story is that is not an easy ride and sometimes to get what you want you need to go all the way, take risk and really fight for what you want.
So if you like second chances then this story is for you.
My first summer read for the season and I fully enjoyed it! Return to Summer was the perfect read to get me out of a reading slump and excited for summer with a second chance romance novel. I really enjoyed how an easy read it was and how badly I wanted these past high school lovers to be together! With that said, the story developed very quickly where I wish there was more depth in the characters. It felt predictable, which is why I wish there was more depth. And Summer’s character felt confusing at times. She was this strong powerhouse female yet at certain times she felt too naive, which made me feel like it was two different characters. But for a summer read by the pool this book hits the marks for second-chance love, some steamy scenes and a feel good ending.
I would want to state that I was given an ARC in exchange for a honest review, therefore this is what I have to say.
Spoiler Free!
Even though I had some previous knowledge, I still went into this very blind. When I initially acquired the book, I thought it would be a lengthy second chance romance, but it was actually quite brief. I shouldn't be upset because it was just approximately 170 pages, but let's just say that for stories about second chances in love, I would have expected it to be longer. I didn't dislike this book, but I don't feel as if I connected with it or enjoyed it as much as I might have. I believed that certain scenes were hurried and that some issues were left unresolved. It was an enjoyable book overall, but not to my taste!
This was a lovely read with a lot of heart, perfect for a beach read. I've never visited the region where the book is set, but I could imagine the relentless heat of the desert from visiting central Australia.
I'm a fan of second-chance romance, and small-town romance, and Ms. Harper combined the two beautifully.
So if you are looking for a quick beach read this summer, look no further! But do remember to bring a cold drink and some ice cream, because things heat up in the desert...
Return to Summer is an easy read. And it's just that. Nothing less nothing more. It was cute and funny but there were moments where it couldn't hold my attention for long enough and then I lost my interest altogether.
Arc provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley.
I really enjoyed this book, especially after a long winter. The book is set in the beautiful town of Havila Springs in the Mohave desert. What a great introduction to summer. The characters rediscover each other in a second chance romance. As the couple tries to figure out what went wrong in their relationship, they must decide if a future is possible. This slow burn romance will heat up your summer. Return to Summer is a fun beach read!
This was my first time reading a Krista Harper book and what a great way to dive into a new author. Return To Summer is a glorious slow burn, second chance romance that did not disappoint. A quick and enjoyable read.
*Received an ARC copy of the book in exchange for an honest review*
Return to summer was a light, flirty romance which made me smile and I had an enjoyable evening devouring this book.
That being said, I wasn't a fan of Summer and (though people are going to berate me about this) I found her very flimsy and her emotions all over the place. Yes, it is possible for their emotions to be manic and chaotic, but the buildup to having breakdowns or crying needs to be there and a lot of the emotional scenes felt very coincidental and forced, almost coming out of the blue. The romantic scenes were, for the most part, enjoyable though they did feel a little flat in parts. The ending was nice and I appreciated the epilogue greatly. A fantastic way to end the story.
The plot was guessable from the first few chapters but I stuck around to see how it played out. I did love Grayson's character (though his big reveal was a big letdown) but could forgive him for that since he was far more enjoyable to follow than summer.
All in all, not a bad book. I did enjoy reading it and it provided me with a day's enjoyment. It was short, quick, easy to read, and a nice book for a short stop in the romance genre.
Have you ever been to the desert? In RETURN TO SUMMER, our main character returns to the small desert town of Havila Springs after the death of her grandmother, and the setting - the heat and the landscape really fascinated me!
❤️REVIEW❤️ Return to Summer by @kristaharperwrites is a second chance love story of Summer and Graison, teenage sweethearts till it all ended abruptly just before setting off for college.
Twelve years later, Summer is a realtor in New York City, living and breathing her job, with little to no social life or downtime, her only friend her surly and sarcastic assistant. Graison is still living in Havila Springs, a successful restaurant owner and a single dad to a pre-teen girl.
When Summer returns to Havila Springs she sees just how much the town has evolved with the times, and along with catching up with her one-time best friend and the generosity and kindness of the small-town residents, Summer is starting to realise how much this place and people once meant to her.
I really enjoyed this read! Light but with some emotional moments and transformative thoughts and actions, this was a second chance romance that had me cheering for the couple to get it on, with their chemistry hot right from their surprise meet (again!) This book had me smiling as Summer and Graison get to know each other again, as well as the small-town vibe which is always a favourite of mine. A certain scene also raises the steam level a notch or two! Add in low angst and this lovely combination creates an enjoyable contemporary romance read. 4 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me.
When Summer returns to Havila to sell the house of her deceased grandmother, she hopes to avoid her high school love, Graison. She will only be in town for 48 hours. But of course she does bump into him and when she finds he has a daughter of 12 she is upset that might be the reason he dumped her at prom.
When she decides to flip the house and needs more time, she and Graison are rekindling their old romance. But what happened 12 years ago and will their love have a chance now?
It was nice to read about the changes in a town in 12 years. Havila has turned into bit of a booming and modern town Summer does not easily recognize. And Graison has done really good for himself too. What really bothered me that Summer had neglected her loving grandparents. She lived with them a while and she has not been back in 12 years, even when they needed her care or died? She had a career in LA, without any friends or holidays.. It did not endear her to me actually. It seemed her grandparents and Havila were just a blip in her teens and she was still hurting from being dumped by Graison and never looked back.
The other thing is that Summer kept changing her mind; gave me a digital whiplash. She wants to stay/no to leave, she tells her boss she will return/to just call HR for a paid month holiday, to sell the house/keep the house, move back to LA/stay in Havila etc. etc. She was sometimes quite rude to people about it. Make up your mind woman!
There were some really great people living in Havila. Maybe Summer should have appreciated/appreciate them more.
*** I received an ARC via Netgalley and this is my honest and voluntary review. ***
I thought I was really into dark romance but after this book, I think I'm sold for romcoms.
Return to Summer was a refreshing mix of laughter, heat, and romance. This second chance at romance was just what I needed after a long day of work. I found myself looking forward to reading every night.
I probably dragged on the reading because I didn't want it to finish. This is one of Krista's reads that was very enjoyable and inspiring.
I fell in love with Graison the moment I met him behind that bar. The nerves that built up for him to walk over and talk to Summer were everything. Every time he tried to explain to her what happened, he got a ball of nerves and I got so excited.
Summer on the other hand is so feisty and independent. She is a determined New Yorker who unwillingly came to the dessert but eventually willingly stayed. I just love how she tried to avoid Graison at all costs and still was unsuccessful.
Small town Graison is the perfect match for this independent New Yorker. The right mixture of sweet and spicy, heat and romance is just what is needed on a hot Summer day.
If you're looking to really enjoy your Summer, then Return to Summer and a cold cosmo is all you need. Rock back on your beach chair, sink your toes in the sand, and journey with this beautiful couple as they figure out their second chance romance.
Thank you NetGalley and Southside Mountain Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Rating: 3/5
I couldn’t put this book down. It was addicting and a page-turner! I finished this in one sitting, and I have no regrets whatsoever.
Summer Murdock is a successful New York real estate agent. When her grandmother passed away, she got put in charge of listing the house. The thing she’s not looking forward to? Going back to Havila where there’s bad memories and estranged relationships. On this trip, she’s hoping to not see anyone from her past, especially Graison Wells: the man who broke her heart.
I honestly enjoyed this read. I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what was going to happen and uncover the secrets that characters were keeping. However, I was getting tired of reading repeated events. It just felt like history was repeating itself which was a bit frustrating. Other than that, I thought this was a good, fast paced, romance read that did keep me interested with every page.
Second chance romance are on my list of my top five favourite topics. So when I read the synopsis, and saw the fun cover I though this book would be right up my street.
We meet Summer Murdock she is a real estate agent living in New York who has to come back to her old hometown of Havila Springs to sell her Grandmother house after she passes away. She intends to get there and back to New York as fast as possible, but fate and old friends have other ideas. Graison Wells was her first love and after loosing her virginity to him one night, he breaks up with her and never looks back. So when both are invited to a beach party by a mutual friend they are both shocked to see each other again after so long. And all these old feelings he has for her come flooding back.
I really enjoyed this book, all the characters are very likeable and I was routing for the pair. I finished it in one sitting and makes the perfect beach or garden read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Return to Summer is a short but sweet romance about Manhattan realtor, Summer, who heads back to the town she called home in high school to sell her grandma's home, following her death. Of course, the town has grown up since then and she realises it might not be so bad, even if her ex, Graison (the one that got away) still calls it home.
This is a quick and fast-paced romance told from both Summer and Graison's perspectives. Summer is a strong and independent woman that gets things done, while Graison is a sweetheart with a heart of gold. Return to Summer features many good things: second chance romance, a cool desert town backdrop and some always-welcome steam. While it may be short, Harper managed to fit a lot of character growth into the book, which I always appreciate.
I definitely recommend adding Return to Summer to your summer romance reading list. It would make the perfect beach read that could totally be read in one sitting.
Thank you to Southside Mountain Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for this honest review.
This was such a cute and lovely quick read! I managed to finish this book off in one day. It’s a perfect book to read in the summer at the beachside. The storyline was nothing what I was expecting, it was much better!
This book is about Summer and Graison, they were both together in high school but then they broke up after graduation and Summer was heartbroken. Summer ended up leaving this small town and moved to Manhattan. It is now that she ends up coming back to the small town where all the memories were left behind.
The best thing about this story was that Summer and Graison have so much of misunderstanding about each other but deep down they have so much love for one another. The whole way I was like… will Summer give Graison a second chance?!
Overall guys, it’s a great quick romance book to read! I want to read more books of Krista Harper now! 4/5 ⭐️
Remember your first love? Your first kiss? Those warm feelings of euphoria and nostalgia come rushing back in the pages of Return to Summer. Summer and Graison reunite under unexpected circumstances when she returns to her hometown to sell her beloved grandparents’ house. Despite the way things ended years between the high school sweeties, the attraction is still there, and the time apart has only made hearts grow fonder. I loved Harper’s charming characters, her slow-burn pacing and clever phrasing. As irresistibly sweet and blissfully refreshing as a double scoop cone, Return to Summer is a must-read that will leave you happily sighing. It’s true what they say: You never forget your first love.
I enjoyed this story so much. I love second chance reads and how it all comes together. Graison & Summer (once childhood sweethearts) reunite after Summer comes back to Havila Springs only to arrange and sell her grandparents home after her grandmothers passing. She thought she would be in & out in a few days, but after running into her once Best friend, Jillian who then insists on taking her to dinner. Just so happens that it’s once of the restaurants that Graison now owns.
It’s a really sweet story and it truly makes you fall in love with the characters. Graison is a strong family man who puts his daughter above all But his still growing love for Summer is what makes you love him that much more. Great read.
This is Summer and Graison's story and how they get their second chance at being together.
Although I did enjoy this book I really felt it should have been 'padded' out with more detail. As readers we were not really given enough background information on some of the characters, and plotline(s), and just accept that you can be out of peoples lives for 12 years with no contact whatsoever and then just waltz back in and everything will just fall into place without question.
For me, this was an easy read that could have been a great read. Would this stop me reading any more of this authors work? No, I enjoyed it enough to want to read more of her work.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and am voluntarily leaving an hones review.
A second chance romance that takes place in a small tourist town in the middle of the desert? Sounds like a perfect summer read. And delightful it is. It's a contemporary romance that follows the story of Summer and Graison as they crossed paths again in Havila Springs after a decade of Summer being away to New York.
I can feel their tension and repressed attraction towards one another. I can also feel their apprehensions and traumas but still I can't help but root for them to be together again. Although the ending was good, I felt like it was rushed. But overall, I think it's okay. The book is perfect if you want a short, summer read.
I would like to say a very big thank you to the author for kindly forwarding me a copy of this book , for my Kindle, in return for an honest review. I really loved this book and once I had started reading it, I couldn’t put it down and read it really quickly. This book is a slow burn, second chance romance, with a little bit of sizzle and takes place in a wonderful setting. I loved the two main characters, Summer and Graison and I really enjoyed how their story slowly unfolded and became intrigued by their history together. A wonderful, feel-good read, with a few will they won’t they moments thrown in for good measure!
This book was an enjoyable read, and I really liked the hero of the story. I struggled a bit with the heroine once in a while, I get with second chance romance there is a bit of anger between characters but sometimes I felt she was a bit mean without actually listening to Graison or even her friend Jillian. I also felt part of the story was a little rushed, like I was on fast forward or missed a few pages. I did like the plot, side characters and the ending!
I received a free copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
After her grandmother passes away, Summer has to return to the town she spent her senior year to sell her grandmother's house. She doesn't expect her past, in the form of Graison, to catch up with her the day she arrives though.
I really enjoyed the first half of the book where Summer is rediscovering Havila Springs with fresh eyes. I loved the descriptions of the town and the way it forced Summer to reevaluate her own life. In the second half, the relationship between Graison and Summer felt a little rushed, but overall I really enjoyed this novel.
Big city girl has to return to the small town Havila which is filled with memories and people she wanted to forget. What she thought would just be a quick 2 day visit to organise selling her recently passed grandmothers house ends up being a lot more. With the excuse that the house needed more work and the recent reconciliation with her childhood best friend she takes a well overdue break from work. Running into her first real love stirs up lots of trouble especially now he has a daughter, can they overcome the past, can they work living right across the country? I found this a great read and loved seeing them work through their seemingly difficult lives.
arc provided by netgalley! this book was a quick easy read but it was so cute! i really liked how the second chance lovers trope was used in the story. the settings were also really nice, i loved how the it took place in a desert town, its really different than the usual places story take place in. the smut was also pretty good!! and graison is a single dad which is just INCREDIBLE. the only trope i didn’t really like was the misunderstanding trope which was the reason they broke up in the first place. overall this is a cute easy romcom!!
