It all goes terribly wrong, and Cairn finds his priorities shifting in the face of unimaginable tragedy. The change of heart comes too late, however, and Cairn dies. He reawakens to find himself transported ten years in the past. He immediately begins to plan for the future, only to discover his killer has somehow followed him. To succeed, Cairn must unite the kingdom and discover the motivation of his killer, using as many tries as it takes.

I exhausted pretty much every time loop story ever written and decided to write my own. You'll see a few similarities here between this story and some existing stories, at least initially. There's a lot of inspiration drawn from both MoL and Re:Zero, though in terms of pathos and darkness, this story leans more towards the latter. Be warned, it is something of a slow burn. The main character will grow and become powerful, but a theme of this story is that power comes slowly and often at great cost.

This looks like it could be a good story but the pacing is slow for what it is. Moreover, the author made the poor decision to start the story off with huge events and then moves on to long simple side quests. It’s going to take quite a few chapters to get back to the main plot so I’m dropping this for now.

One star I didn’t like it. I put three stars up so that the book doesn’t look so sad on good reads.
It’s a regressor story with a twist: the main enemy comes back with you. Main character is very bland and seems written as generic as possible on purpose.

Characters: 1/5 I didn’t like the main character
As previously stated, he’s a kid who is over 18 who seems very bland, at least for the first 10th of the book, which is the point where I stopped. All we really know is that he’s salty that his dad killed his girlfriend, and tries to do his own thing. There is nothing particularly interesting about that.

World: 2/5 seems okay
Hard to tell. It seems decent, but with regressor stories the focus is usually disproportionately on characters, at least for the first half before the final run.

Story: 1/5 I personally disliked it
My reasons are very personal, and probably not applicable for most people. I’m just not ready first story about one man’s solitary struggle against an enemy across time. The personal part of that is that I have exams right now, and when I want is a feel good story where the main character smashes through every obstacle in life. However, it is also important to note that in this kind of story where the main character is basically the only constant that the reader follows, it’s pretty damning to have a bland mc.

I started the story expecting regression plus politics, the two things I’m very fond of, and that is exactly what I got. The story is unique and attractive, unlike 90% of regression and progression fantasy. This time, the MC is no ordinary person; this time, the MC is a prince, a prince to the most powerful king in the verse. You can imagine how much influence this prince has, let alone the advantage of regression. This makes for a very interesting and captivating story.

The characters are unique and well-tailored. Everyone has his own goals and needs, and when someone is so high up (shoutout to my boys Ozra and Thaddeus, my two favorite side characters), you can tell why they achieved their position and maintained it. The world-building is lovely and engaging...

The only problem I had was the prose. At first, it's so complicated that it comes across as amateurish. However, the author easily learns and gets way better at his prose so quickly, which is a huge credit to their growth and skill.

But above all, the one thing that sets the novel apart from many others, other than the politics, is that the MC is highly unpredictable! As a veteran reader, I pride myself on being able to predict plot progression up to a limit: the good do good things, the bad do bad things, and the good/bad people do both depending on what they seek. But this dude is nuts! His intentions are always good, yes, but he tends to confuse the enemy and ends up confusing the reader, too..in a good way!
