By any means necessary.

Hi, there! My name is Mickey Miller and I write sexy, fun romance with smart characters. My books are great if you're looking for a light-hearted, steamy read with some humor and a happy ending! Happy reading!
Mickey Miller has done it again and I am at a loss for words right now. Rock Block is definitely a book that will stay with me for awhile. Once you begin this hilarious, deep and extremely steamy read, you are not going to want to put it down. Prepare to be fully invested in this story from the very beginning. Luke and Skylar’s story is perfection as well as incredibly heartfelt and profound. You will want to re-read Sky (Cielo) and Luke’s book many times. My heart is literally exploding right now. 💍❤️. Rock Block has all you could ever want in a Mickey Miller romance and then some. What an incredibly emotionally fulfilling read.
Love the description for the title cute and original. Omg I can't believe they both just couldn't tell the other how they really felt. I understand letting your love follow their dreams. I just couldn't wait that long to be with the love of my life. Warning there is a cliffhanger and it was done very well. I'm so thankful to be on Mickey arc team this book was delicious and very hot.
This is not your run of the mill average book, so if you’re looking for cookie cutter, this isn’t it!
This book is epic and the best I have read in a long time and most assuredly the best Mickey Miller has ever written. It isn’t your run of the mill romance. As someone who has followed Mr Miller for a while I have had my favorites but this toppled a long standing number one and by a long way. The premise was original and ludicrous but made for a great background to a love story that was as sweet as it was naughty. Don’t be surprised if you blush because this book definitely brought the heat - molten lava heat. Luke and Sky are a couple who bring their very real vulnerability and insecurities whilst also demonstrating that chemistry sometimes will trample all over best intention to stay distant. Epic doesn’t always run smooth but it’s worth it in the end!
The much anticipated Luke story did not disappoint. After reading Hatemates, the author asked who else’s story would we like to read. I knew right away that I wanted more Luke. I patiently waited and am thrilled to say that Rock Block is my new favorite Mickey Miller book.
It has wonderful character development, funny lines and ultimately made me cry. What more could I ask for? Truth is for me -nothing.
Miller puts it all on the table. The banter between Sky and Luke makes this an enjoyable read. I was entertained by the cameo of characters from this amazing world that has been created for me to enjoy. The “fake relationship” is my favorite troupe. I LOVE that it comes from college aged people and not billionaires.
The story is believable with passion and heat that are top notch. Another fabulous read by Mickey Miller. I am happy to recommend this book to all fellow romance readers. (Also if not a romance reader, this is an excellent book to get started in this world.)
Maybe more like 3, even 3.5 at points, but damn, am I infuriated that this isn't a standalone and there's no word of it in the summary 😤
My reading/reviewing slump continues, so this will be quick.
I liked:
↗️ Sky and Luke had a good chemistry going on, and while friends to lovers is not usually my thing, it worked so so well here - I loved how there was this focus on how they are able to be more honest and open with e/o, and build up trust in different aspects of their relationship
↗️ premise verged on ridiculous but you know what? I totally want this to be A Thing in romance now. Say goodbye to good old fake-dating due to overbearing parents or ex who is getting married. I want more of fake-dating + agenda of showing off "look! how miserable we are together, relationships suck, wait are we actually perfect for each other? oh."
What ruined it:
↘️ D/ddy kink omnipresent in ALL the smut, WHY??? If I had to name one major turn-off for me, it'd be this, and it did not help that it didn't even make sense for the characters, they were both 22-year-old college kids, how TF is he her d/ddy????
↘️ While I loved Luke and Skylar's conversations, and how they'd deepen their relationship by actually TALKING to each other and getting to know e/o (groundbreaking it may not be, but surprisingly few romance stories actually have that element?)...there's only so many times a person can mention how they are having "DEEP conversation" with their significant other without sounding like a total douchebag and methinks this limit was exceeded a few times over in this story
↘️ so obvious that the ending was overdrawn for the sake of making it into a duology, and it ended up ruining the characters? For a couple who communicated so well throughout 90% of the book, suddenly they couldn't because Reasons. Then the last 2-3 chapters were mainly Luke, and sometimes Sky, writing a dissertation of an internal monologue on What Is Love? It was so annoying, and made both of them come off as so pretentious. I was seconds away from throwing my e-reader against the wall. Because dammit, stop with the philosophical essay on what makes love REAL and GO DO STUFF TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
↘️
TL;DR: While the idea was great, execution fell short for me. But in this case it very much comes down to me problem, with the overall writing being really quite good. I might try other books from this author again at some point.
Content warning: d/ddy kink, name-calling (consensual but just in case it's not someone's cuppa of tea), separation and they are both with other people / in other relationships (at least it's hinted)
This book is a whole lot more than you might expect. While it is a steamy, romantic comedy at heart, the story being told is big and there a multitude of layers skillfully woven throughout it. To start I have to say how much I liked Luke and Skylar. From their differences, to their strong friendship, to their dogged determination to ignore the powerful attraction and chemistry that burned between them, to the insecurities and baggage they each had, I was shipping this pair super hard. They were cute and sweet and very funny together. They also have a tendency to make your heat ache and your temperature to rise in their most honest with each other moments and with their sizzling antics. As for the basic story concept, I thought it felt a bit over the top but I also admit that in today's world it totally could happen. Underneath everything else is a wealth of emotion and a raw genuineness that is compelling and captivating with its simplicity, honesty and beauty. So, why only four stars? Without going into spoiler territory, lets just say that a couple things annoyed me and left me feeling just a bit unsatisfied. This is my unbiased, unsolicited review.
Luke and Skylar were so hot and funny. The lengths these two friends went to help there friend, Ryan, was hilarious. They really went full throttle to show Ryan he’s making a mistake but while doing so they found a connection they didn’t know was there.
This was the first book I have read from Micky Miller and I really enjoyed it. It has been a bit since I have read a RomCom and it was a breath of fresh air. I loved the relationship between Luke and Skylar. They have been friends for years and the bond they had really came through. The trust and openness they have with each other made the relationship and chemistry sexy as hell. To be able to be so honest and explore who you are and what you want with someone like that it pretty special. They don’t hold back from one another.
Just a heads up, this is not a stand-alone. There will be another book to complete the story of Luke and Skylar so that threw me a bit. I can’t wait to see what happens though.
If fake relationships, friends to lovers, funny reads are your thing, I would definitely check this one out.
Rock Block was a hit! OMG - I loved Skylar's and Luke's story. It is entertaining, smexy, and completely consumed. I was a sucker for this story from the moment I started to read the first page. I have read every book that Mickey has written. I love his stories because they truly come from an author that is authentic. Rock Block seemed like it came from a different writing style. The feel was different. It was unique and the story was beautiful!
Skyer and Luke were the best! A lot of push and pull between these two, but their hearts were coming from a good place. This story has stuck with me for a few days. Rock Block is truly the best that Mickey Miller has written!
My heart has melted! My kindle may have too. Lol. (The steam is crazy good) Skylar and Luke were quite the pair. You can't help but completely fall in love with these characters.
The plan to "rock block" seems easy enough, right?! Help a friend out, make him realize how big of a mistake he's making. Yeah, well the problem with pretending is when feelings get involved. You don't know what's real or fake anymore.
I loved Skylar and Luke together. Their chemistry, the conversations, the banter, I rooted for them. I was also on edge waiting for the shoe to drop! How would this end? I was desperate to find out.
I devoured this book. I enjoyed it and wasn't ready for it to end. I'm excited to read the sequel.
Rock Block is a fun romantic comedy by Mickey Miller.
Skylar and Luke are best friends. Luke’s best friend is engaged. To a real winner. So they come up with a crazy plan to break up the relationship. What ensues is fun and funny and real feelings come to light. Will Skylar and Luke pursue those feelings or will they remain best friends?
The characters in Rock Block are well developed and really likable. I was hoping they would admit to each other how they really felt before it was too late.
Mickey puts a lot of humor into this story. As well as that, there are steamy scenes you will love.
You can tell he put a lot of time, effort, and heart into this story.
Luke and Sky definitely take you on a journey full of twists, turns, laughs, steam, and a plan to save their friend from making a big mistake. These two take a fake relationship to whole other level to try and save their friend. As the plan takes off things for these two get complicated as feelings become involved and wanting what they have been dreaming of. Will they forget their dreams and stay together or will they go for what they have planned and break up? OMG did this book make me laugh, by the end I wanted to cry, I love seeing old faces and definitely loved meeting new ones. I can't wait to read what he has next. My favorite read of the year
Damnnnnn! I loved Luke and Sky’s story. It made me feel a whole range of emotions from laugh out loud funny to balling my eyes out. It quickly jumped into my favourite Mickey Miller book.
For an extra layer, I was reading Rock Block aloud (albeit censored in some parts) to my 11 week old infant son. He just started that babbling stage and I swear that he said ‘ah boo’ not ‘ah goo’ in the most appropriate scene. 😂He’s got to learn language from somewhere and I wanted to read this 🤷🏻♀️ ☺️ two birds, one stone.
I highly recommend Rock Block and author Mickey Miller.
Luke and Skye were amazing. Their story was emotional, fun and full of feels, you will not be able to put this book down. When Luke comes up with this ridiculous idea to show his best friend what his life will be like if he marries his fiance, all he needs is a willing participant. Will Luke convince Skye to go along with his crazy scheme or will she risk their friendship for a fake relationship to make a point? Great read as always by this author.
Rock Block was totally different than most Mickey Miller books. It was a story that grew on me the more I read it. I am totally in love with Lucas. The emotions that this story will pull from you are astronomical in comparison to past MM books. The story of Lucas and Sky was definitely different but so captivating. I didn't not expect the ending that we got...
Not very funny and quite implausible..... I did like how the ruse backfires?! But did it really!? The writing for them growing into a relationship was good writing but so much more could of been written with hapless Ryan and his fiancee that could be funny. I liked how ending happens. It was actually quite good.
Omg!!!! This book was sooooo good & hottttt!!!! Luke is the man. Their chemistry was so off the chain. I couldn't put this book down. It was good from beginning to end. I can't wait to see what happens between Luke and Sky!
“What I don’t tell Luke is that the most dangerous part of this whole thing might not be the lies we’re telling the outside world, but the lies we’re telling ourselves.”
I wasn’t sure I wanted to read this book. I wanted something that would make me happy and make me laugh. However, not reading this book would have been a huge mistake. The story of Luke and Sky is so beautiful and moving in so many ways. It is not only a must read, it is a must buy and keep on your shelf forever.
I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.
Mickey Miller has become an automatic, must read author for me in the past year! This book has everything in it: love, friendship, romance, heartbreak, laughter and sobbing. It was a roller coaster of emotion and I was along for the ride.
I really adore Sky. She's an anomaly. On the one hand, she's very upfront and open about her thoughts. She's so honest and truthful and very curious about a lot of things. Sky doesn't shy away from most topics and she's very down to earth. But then she is also very closed off about her deep, true, buried feelings. She tricks herself into thinking that her true feelings are not correct and she's hiding a piece of herself.
So Sky is a normal human being, essentially.
Luke had good intentions with his crazy plan, but he really doesn't think things through that well. Thank goodness he paired up with Sky, who did think things through - well for the most part anyway.
I really enjoyed this storyline - it was different and unique from anything I've read before. I also didn't realize that there is a followup book to this story, so now I will sit here twiddling my thumbs, waiting for that one :) I know readers will adore this book!
Seeing your friend in a loveless engagement and wanting to help can spark crazy ideas. Lucas is determined to save Ryan from a gold digger who is the epitome of "devil child". Lucas brainstorms with is eccentric friend Skylar. She's her own kind of woman. Doesn't follow the trends and is a artsy hipster kind of woman. She sees the desperation and sees the dangers their friend Ryan is in especially after overhearing the devil woman herself plotting her "out move". Sky and Lucas commence their plan to "Save Ryans Life" They take a romantic relationship and start their plan. Working like a dream, but when they end up crossing a line on the physical level their hearts are far behind. Can you say disaster? Well..... their hearts don't care and they're determined to stay strong willed and not interfere with the life plans of the other. Love is a fun thing. You think you can Express it for others to see but sometimes you just need to say the words because if not.... life happens!
This was a brilliant story and im.on the edge of my seat waiting for the sequel after a heartbreaking and heart pounding cliffhanger. Wonderful job and another fantastic story I absolutely loved Mickey Miller!
This book was amazing. The friendship and chemistry between Luke and Skylar is so good. They just get one another and support each other. The fact that Skylar is willing to help Luke save his friend from what he sees as a bad decision even though its kind of crazy makes for such a great read. They are able to communicate and willing to listen to one another. The plan they come up with is so out there and yet both are willing to go through with it. Feelings of course get stronger between them and there in lies the question of whether to express how they now feel about the other. Clearly both have fallen for the other and don't want to let the other know for fear of it somehow interfering with the life goals each has. I really feel for each of them. I will have to say the ending I did not see coming. I hope that we will be reading more about this amazing couple. I can see that Mickey Miller put a lot of himself into this story. One of my favorite reads.
"I love this girl, and I can never tell her. But I can show her."
Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men as they say...
So, we have Ryan and Jennifer, right? He's head over heels for her, and she's head over heels for the ring on her finger. Lucas, Ryan's best friend can't let his buddy marry a witch, so knowing anything he says will fall on deaf ears, comes up with a plan. Fake a relationship and a bad marriage to his good friend Sky to make Ryan think twice. What could go wrong?
Lucas and Sky are just great together! I loved their banter, and the steam between these two is off the chart!! But, as you can imagine, pretend doesn't always stay pretend. But with their lives headed in polar opposite directions, can they admint their feelings, or will they end up standing in each other's way?
I will say, you will NOT see this ending coming!
I absolutely loved this story, and I need more of Lucas and Sky. I also need more of Ryan! I'm not sure if this author is planning to give us either, but PLEEEEEEASE!!
I am experiencing a book hangover like no other right now. My heart is permanently and I really don't know what to do with myself right now. This is the first time that I have wanted to throw my phone against the wall while asking myself why?! The story is just so deeply profound and insightful. The complexity of the feelings written in this book is a wonderful example of how much the author has grown as a writer. The time and care he took with this plot and small details in it shine bright with every chapter you read. As a Spanish speaking reader and, an Argentinian at that, it was amazing to see how much my home and culture (together with those of our Paraguayans') have influence the author's writing, which in my case makes the story even more special to my heart. I have no doubt that this book will bring great things for Mr Miller. It's really that amazing! .
Pretty juvenile, even for the the target demographic.
I really just wasn't a fan of this book. In general, the plot was fine; it's a standard friends to lovers romance trope, but all of the characters read like they were in high school rather than college, especially since the whole plot revolved around marriage. I really just wasn't able to connect or understand how a plan to stage a marriage could actually convince a different couple to not get married. Again, the entire thing is juvenile and lacking any maturity.
There really wasn't any banter or funny bits so I'm not sure where the "rom com" aspect comes in.
Bottom line: This probably isn't a book I'll ever be reading again or bother to read the sequel, even though this ends unresolved.
I loved this book. This romance story was brilliantly written, heartwarming, witty banter, and inner dialogue. An engaging story that will keep you captivated throughout this addictive page-turner. I was hooked from the very first page—laughing, swooning, fanning, and highlighting awesome quotes. This is Luke Rutledge and Skylar Houston’s story. Luke is a baseball jock, and he is devastated that his best friend got engaged to someone that thinks more about the size of the ring and his family’s money than the guy himself. Skylar is weird, a hipster, and hangs around the social justice crowd. She and Luke spent a term abroad during their junior year of college and became an odd couple of besties. Luke is enraptured by the feisty, weird, and beautiful woman in which sparks fly and some heavy flirtation ensues and the chemistry between them becomes very sultry. Luke devise a plan with Skylar—a fake engagement, marriage, and divorce to get his best friend to see how a relationship can end. It’s all supposed to be pretend...until it wasn’t! But will this be enough for Ryan since he is blindsided by his fiancée? Will Luke and Skylar be able to keep up the charade of a fake marriage, let alone a divorce? Can opposites attract? Find out what happened—what a conundrum! Mikey Miller manages to weave plot lines centered on romantic ideas with artfully developed main characters. If you are looking for an easy to follow, steamy, sexy, and smooth flowing read that captures your attention, then you won’t regret reading Rock Block. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
3.5 stars Omg…how dare you Mr. Miller?! I was not expecting that ending.
Skyler, who just got out of a terrible long distance relationship with Federico and also doesn’t have great sexual experiences. She is friends with Luke who went with her on the Buenos Aires trip.
Luke a picture on the baseball team in college and is a guy who gets around. Luke finds out that his friend Ryan proposed to his girlfriend Jennifer to get married. He doesn’t like Jennifer, but he knows that he can’t go to Ryan and tell her tell him that he thinks he’s making a mistake that he’s rushing into things. So he enlists Skyler to run a con To pretend to be dating, have it move fast proposed to her get married and then get a divorce. he can show his friend Ryan what a mistake he’s making.
I mean for the most part I really did enjoy reading Luke and Skyler‘s journey through this “fake relationship”. I will be honest and say I think because I listened to this narration is what killed it just a tad for me. But that wasn’t all, I think also is that I went through this whole journey with Luke and Skyler NOT expecting that ending and I’m not sure if I can go through another relationship between Luke and Skyler being with other people, knowing that they should be together.
Also, I think the author changed the name of the book. The Kindle book that I had in the narration was a bit different so I’m thinking it was rewritten re-released. I’m not sure but now there’s a book two.
The spice between Skyler and Luke was on point. The connection the chemistry was amazing, which is why it kills me on the ending.
Definitely check it out. Give it a read. It’s a great story. Tell me what you think.
Rock Block was a fantastic opposites attract college romance.
Luke and Skyler first met when they studied abroad and quickly became great friends. Now, Luke needs help breaking up his roommate and fiance since they are all wrong for each other and enlists Sky to assist.
Their solution is to stage a fake relationship, marriage and divorce with parallels showing Ryan just how bad Jennifer is ruining his life. What they didn't plan on was falling deeply and madly in love with each other all the while cementing their status as best friends. THey also didn’t plan on what happens after the staged relationship breaks up . . .
I adored this couple. Their scheme to break up Ryan and Jennifer was insane, but they really had Ryan's best interests at heart. I loved that they were best friends, which is why them falling head over heels shocked no one but themselves . . .
Luke is the best of guys when he is with Skylar. Sweet, funny, affectionate, attentive and a bit dominant in the bedroom. Skylar is a free spirit. She is genuine and committed to making the world a better place by joining the peace corps. She enjoys Luke for who he is and not that he will be a famous pitcher in a few years. And, their spanish nicknames for each other was just too sweet . . . and awfully sexy!
They both want what makes the other happy, whether that means they end up together or not. Their love story is spectacular . . . . . and I want more . . . .now . . . . honestly Mickey Miller . . . that ending . . . . 4.5 Stars!
Okay, I thought this book would be a fluff piece, a simple but cute little romcom. I didn’t expect much substance but I thought it would be a short little three star book. I WAS WRONG!!!! Wtf!!?!? This book was a five star read and has become one of my top romance books I’ve read in the past 10 years.
I’ve read all the great romance books and they’re usually three stars and four stars at best but it’s quite rare do you get a fully fleshed out, and cohesive book like this one. It was modern yet incentive and sporadic.
These characters are fully fleshed out and they have personalities that you can understand and they know them selves really well. Not only that but we don’t have characters that are so closed off they say dumb things in defence. We have two main characters that know themselves and they know their faults and they can express it to one another, therefore there is no confusion or a big dramatic break up.
It’s so realistic that the cliffhanger didn’t even really make me upset it made me hopeful for more. And you know it’s so crazy and funny. As I was reading the last chapter and epilogue, I was saying “oh I wish this book had a sequel to see what it would be like for these characters as they are a bit older”, and low and behold we have a sequel!! I am 30% mad that the book didn’t end here and I didn’t get the ending but 70% happy that I’m going to get a fleshed out sequel in some form so that excites me🤩. This book is a 10 out of 10 read and highly recommended.
Luke and Skylar are an unlikely couple, which is fine since they're really not a couple. But when Luke sees his best friend about to make a terrible mistake and marry a girl who is completely wrong for him, Luke and Sky concoct a plan to show Ryan the error of his ways. Their elaborate scheme involves fake dating, fake marriage and a messy fake divorce, all within the span of a few months, to show Ryan the inevitable outcome if he goes through with his own wedding.
Reading a Miller romance is always great fun, so I couldn’t wait to dive into this one. With his trademark humor and authentic, endearing characters, the heat level is turned up a notch. There's definitely a lot of smexy going on, but invoking a father figure behind closed doors with two characters who are barely legal drinking age struck me like my partner saying “Who's your cousin?” when things are just getting interesting. The rest, though? Yum, yes please.
I’m not sure if the final synopsis will disclose it, but this book is the first of a duet, which means there’s a bit of a cliffie and no HEA at the end of this book. Hopefully we won’t have to wait very long for the second half, because I’m 100% invested in Luke and Sky and absolutely need to know how their story ends. Grab this one now or wait until both books are out, but if you’re at all a fan of YA/NA, you'll adore Luke and Sky and love their story.
It is a new author for me. At the time of reading, I had no idea that this book is not complete. There will be one more book coming. I can't wait for the second book as I liked this book a lot. The story's pace is good, and you can feel the way the characters are feeling in any particular situation. I will read more of this author's work.
The main characters are so adorable, and I just fell in love with them. The way they are always in sync and have a good understanding is just lovely. I wish I had friends like them. The chemistry and interactions between them were good. My thoughts before starting this one were not in a good place (something personal, nothing related to the book), but while reading this book, my mood got better. Honestly, I had my doubts before starting this book, but the story surpassed my expectations. The story is about two friends faking a relationship to make their mutual friend understand his mistake of being in a relationship with the wrong person. I am so happy to find this author. This author has a very unique and captivating style of writing. I would love to read more of this author's work, and I would also recommend it to others.
