I loved Rehtaeh and Avery’s journey. His desire to really get to know her and actually become her friend before romance even entered the picture was so sweet. I loved Avery’s energy when it came to Rehtaeh and her kids. He played no games when it came to them. I just adored Rehtaeh. There were so many sides to her personality. She had just the right amount of shyness, feistiness, and confidence and she never let her circumstances define her. Avery was just the type of man Rehtaeh needed to bring her out of her shell. That f*ckboy baby daddy of hers was the worst of the worst. Jermaine was trash pure and simple. He didn’t even have the common decency to apologize when all of his skeletons came tumbling out of the closet. Then, he had the nerve to get pissed off when Rehtaeh finally moved on three years later! Yeah, Jermaine was on some serious Ken level audacity from behind bars. And, that damn Troya?!!! I’ma just say she got exactly what she deserved and leave it at that. The Chase was a short but, entertaining read. It had the right amount of romance and action with just a touch of ratchetness. My only issue with this book is, the storyline is centered around a plus size heroine. Rehtaeh is a size 20 but, the chic on the cover is every bit of a size 4. Why write a book about a plus size character and don't feature a plus size woman as your visual?!!! That's equivalent to writing a story about a black woman and putting a white woman on the cover. If you ask me, it's a tad bit disrespectful but I digress. Other than that, this book is definitely worth the read.

Reh and Avery

The heroine's name, I thought, was extra odd. Heather spelled backward. The story, however, was nice. Avery was bae all day. Nice🥰

Gotta love the chase!

I loved everything about this book! The author always gives us something deep to think about while allowing us another chance to enjoy her words. Rehtaeh and Avery were couple goals ❤ They were so good to each other. I appreciated the way Avery chased Rehtaeh, making her feel every good feeling that she deserved to feel. This book was so good!

The chase

I loved how Avery stepped up and stepped in for Rehtaeh and her kids. Jermaine know he was wrong for what he did to her. Trout and Kel got exactly what they deserved. Overall this was a well written story.

You deserve The Chase

I liked this story about Rehtaeh and Avery.

Rehtaeh was so young when she met and got with her ex-boyfriend Jermaine, who was 21 to her 16. I wasn't sure why her mom just let her move out with him once she got pregnant, so I thought her mom was on some 'you grown now be grown', yet that wasn't exactly how it went down. Jermaine was a man on a mission to have babies since his wife, yep wife, wouldn't have any, so Rehteah being young and naive fell right into his trap. He did her so wrong, yet she used that situation to become stronger. Being a young mom to 2 kids, living at your mom's, trying to work and get into college was a lot yet she didn't let that stop her from being great. I'm glad she had Emma as a true friend and that their sons were friends growing up together. I like that she wanted to protect herself and her kids from just any man being in their lives, so I'm glad she let Avery "chase" her. They were definitely a good look.

Avery was not a man of many words, yet always about his business. I gave him a hard side-eye for his situation with Troya, his screw buddy. She was beyond foul, so I wasn't sure why after the incident with her kids needing her, yet her choosing to keep pleasing him, wasn't an immediate red flag for him to leave her alone. Either way, once he saw Rehtaeh, he knew he wanted to have her for life, so he let the chase begin for her. I like that he wanted to protect her immediately and be there for her two kids. He honestly was a good dude with great business, so I like that he went hard yet slow with Rehtaeh.

This was a good story. I didn't quite love it like I have all the other Mel Dau books, yet it was still a good read nonetheless.

Avery is bae!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”To Love, I am waiting for you to chase me. I will be willing to slow down so you can catch me when you’re ready.” The Chase by Mel Dau was a great way to kick off my August reads! Rehtaeh, the leading lady of this story, was a young ambitious single mother of two. Her first love and father to her children was not the man she thought he was. Over the years, instead of putting energy into the heartbreak she focused on motherhood. But mamas need fun too. In comes my newest book bae Avery, who is smitten with Rehtaeh immediately. She doesn’t make things easy for him. Luckily, he doesn’t mind the chase. Sometimes a man just knows what he wants! I love love loved Avery’s energy when it came to Rehtaeh and her children. He played NO games when it came to them! I felt like Rehtaeh was a really strong female lead. She didn’t let her circumstances get the best of her. She had me cheering her on when she was so unbothered by situations that many woman would have a fit about. Avery was just the type of man that she needed! This story was short but definitely entertaining! I loved the characters! Beautiful storyline! I found myself blushing and all giddy throughout the book. I’m looking forward to reading more from this writer! You won’t be disappointed with this read!

Nothing like a good chase 😊

Short and sweet .I Guess you can say it’s a real good example of art imitating life .

Rehteah being young and inexperienced made some uninformed decisions at the age of 16 that almost ruined her life. After having a big dose of Life happening in the middle of what she thought was her almost perfect life , she found herself and two young children, back at home with her mom.

She was determined to make a better life for the three of them and took a Job at a Gas station. She never imagine that a customer coming into the station near closing and observing her moping the floor would change her entire life.

Avery a young educated black businessman knew the moment he laid eyes on Rehteah working hard in the gas station that night, that he wanted her in his life and even though she avoided him he was persistent and was up for “The chase”

The events that take place in this story could very well cause some people to be put off. However at 70 plus years of age. I could relate to many of the events, and found them to be believable. This was a very enjoyable read

Avery was most definitely book bae. He stepped into Retheah's life and demanded his spot. He started the chase the minute he laid eyes on her. Retheah deserved all the love he was handing out because the father of her kids was the definition of sorry. He was so wrong on so many levels with the way he treated her. Avery was really her knight in shining armor and I loved how he encouraged and made sure she finish her schooling. The way he loved and adapted to her kids were exemplary. My 💜 was bursting when J.J. started calling him Daddy. Little miss Tawnee already had a big personality but I thought it was funny when she "pinky swear" with Avery.

Mrs. Dau penmanship is exemplary. I have read a few of her books now and has not been disappointed once. If you have never indulged in any of her books you should. She writes page turners, you will be intrigued from start to finish. She addresses many topics within her books because it was a lot that happened in this book. All issues were presented and resolved.

Aw😊

This was an awesome chase. Loved Avery and Rehtaeh’s journey. Avery’s desire to get to know her was everything. Loved that he wanted to be her friend first💃🏽💃🏽. Jermaine was the worse🙄🙄. The definition of a man and daddy wasn’t even in his vocabulary. The nerve of him to send her that letter trying to shame her while he had a whole other situation while they were together🤦🏽‍♀️. Like are you serious right now? Troya🤦🏽‍♀️ the fact that she couldn’t understand that there was no relationship between her and Avery other than what it was, was detrimental to her health. She wasn’t a good mother but I still felt sorry for her at the end. Poor kids😔🙏🏽. Her baby daddy Kelz got what he deserved🙄🙄. Nuff said✌🏽. Happy for the side kicks Emma and Drew and their HEA as well. The kids, everybody happy, I’m happy. It was another great read by this author. I enjoyed it and recommend it💃🏽💃🏽🔥🔥😜

5 Stars is not enough! The Chase is everything! The first few pages of this book had me and would not let go. Again this author takes sad real life situations and showcases the light at the end of the tunnel. Rehtaeh got caught up, like so many young "good" girls, and literally had the rug snatched from under her feet. While she learned that everything that glitters isn't gold, she worked hard and was able to become Avery's "good thing" once she realized her worth and recognized what real love and dedication looks like. This was an insta love story but the author allowed the characters to become friends first so that the chase could intensify the love and connection as it developed. Mel Dau has easily become one of my top 5 authors!

Great Story!

Rehteah's back story was 😳, whew, it was a lot! Really, she was just naive and sheltered, so she was ripe pickings for someone like her ex. Shout out to her mom for not turning her back on Rehteah and always being supportive. That support is what helped Rehteah heal and grow into an amazing mom. I love that Avery saw what he wanted, Rehteah, and made his interest and intentions known up front. I enjoyed his chase! The incident at the store was scary, but was the impetus for Avery pulling Rehteah even closer. I loved that the kids were pro-Avery from day one. Drew and Emma were cute to read about too. Another great Mel Dau story!

Sweet story! Rehteah got caught up being young and in love with the wrong man. But she didn't allow that to define her. She bossed up, took care of her business, her children and kept it moving. Meeting Avery was eye opening for her. No one had held her attention after her fiasco with Jermaine. She didn't trust herself to allow another man into her life, or children's. But, Avery enjoyed the chase. Soon Rehteah enjoyed being chased as well. They were so good together. He allowed her the space to feel comfortable with the relationship they were building, while he showed her how much he cared about her. Another great read ma'am! 👍👍👍

The feels!!

What can I say about Rehtaeh and Avery’s love story. It’s a beautiful story. Rehtaeh has been thrown a hell of a curve ball in her relationship. She bosses up and decides to focus on her further. Her future turns out to be Avery. Avery is a man who is about his business . When he meets Rehtaeh he knows he needs to make it his business to get to know her. Rehtaeh learns what being loved and cherished is all about with Avery. Mel Dau knows how to dial into the emotions of her readers . This is such a Beautiful story with plenty of action, some ratchetness, and plenty of good love! The Chase is worth the read!!

Oh yeah…now THAT was cute and beautiful!

This was exactly what it was. A feel good complete story with great characters.
Rehtaeh, was a young beautiful soul. Albeit at times she sounded immature but the overall was cute. Dedicated, loyal and a mother, she a great main character.
Avery, boy what a bae. This man right here was the truth, and from this example here, you so do not need to be a dope boy to be so interesting.
The extras were perfect as well from Emma, to Drew to Heather was perfect, specially Heather. Troya got exactly what she deserved through karma.
This a great story that once again MS. Dau delivered flawlessly!!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. This was my first read by Mel Dau but it certainly won’t be my last. The ways she created such diverse characters made this read a fun but emotional ride at times.Rehtaeh and Avery were a great match although I found a few flaws for each they meshed well together. Avery was the well-educated young businessman who was not afraid to get his hands dirty to protect his loved ones and Rehtaeh was the young single mother devoted to giving her children a great life even though she had taken many knocks in the past. I absolutely loved the many sides to Rehtaeh she had just the right amount of feistiness and confidence. After her first and only relationship turning out the way it did, I was so happy to see her growth. When Avery came along, he was exactly what she needed. Mel Dau did a wonderful job on this story the flow, the dialogue, and the character development was spot on.

This stared with some drama but ended with a whole lot of love ❤️ Rethaeh and Avery what can I say Avery was book bae with a WHOLE LOT OF BDE he knew what he wanted and how to go get it not Rathaeh was unsure of herself and Avery’s intentions because she made a choice at a young age with the wrong older man who really just preyed on her for his own needs well Avery helped her see what being wanted and chased was……Now Troya was a hot mess of notingness wanting someone who don’t want you…..Emma and drew was so cute they both knew what they wanted from Jump but the kids in this story will make you love them

Worth The Chase

Rehtaeh Johnson was twenty and the mother of two young children when her world came crashing down.
Four years later Avery Horry with his fine self, walks into her place of employment and “The Chase” begins.

I love Avery and Rehtaeh! And their besties Drew, Emma, and Rehtaeh’s 7 year old daughter Tawnee will have you cracking up in laughter at times. But I wanted to fight Jermaine the sperm donor and Troya aka community whore! lol

The Chase, is guaranteed to have you in your feelings.
Kudos to Author Mel Dau.

I really enjoy this author's writing. It doesn't matter which book I select, it's always so doggone good! I especially love that she shows love to the plus-sized Sistas. I thank you. :-)

Avery was the perfect man for Reh'Taeh. Smart, sexy, a provider and a protector. I loved how he didn't force a relationship with her, but instead took his time, even though he knew she was the one, and went at her pace.

This was a cute, quick read to start the new year, and I'm looking forward to reading another one from Mel Dau.

Avery is bae!

I love how Avery pursued Rehteah from the start. It was beautiful to see his unwavering determination to make her his. I was still trying to process how her ex had a whole wife while Rehteah was birthing his babies. What was that about? Then there was Torya who was straight crazy and to involve her abusive baby daddy was to both of their detriment. Another good one from this author.

Good read

First time reading from this author and was not disappointed but ... yes there's a but my only issue is if the character is supposed to be a size 20 in the book can the cover page represent as such. That was disappointing because I felt like they subscribed to society's fitting model to make us wanna read this by presenting a slimmer girl on cover page. Keep it real please on your next books.

It Is On!

Well the writer tells.us with this story that Avery and Reheat are book couple goals. I love the fact that Avery stands by what he says and that he will not give up on the one that was meant for him. This was just a really sweet and heartfelt romance, that doesn't hold us down with too much drama and alot.of just out of this world crazy. This is one chase you are going to just enjoy.

The chase ended too soon

I am loving this authors style of writing. Avery and Rehtaeh's story was super sweet and even though they were not the main focus I enjoyed Drew and Emma's story also. Avery was that dude, loved the way he handled Kelz and Jermaine. Rehteah's self confidence in herself as a BBW was awesome to see. I am slowly making my way through Ms. Mel Dau's catalog.

Rehtaeh started this book finding out her life was a lie but ended it with everything she ever wanted and so much more!!

Avery knew he wanted rehtaeh when he first saw her but she was guarded, so the chase began and in the end he got what he wanted and so much more but the chase will never end.

I loved every moment of this book and my heart was happy when some of my favorite family members made an appearance!

Amazing Read

Mel has done it again! This book was everything! Rehtaeh finding someone to genuinely love her and her babies after that foolishness with Jermaine was great. Avery didn't give up his chase from day one. He continued his chase after he conquered Rehtaeh. Drew and Emma's relationship was just as beautiful. Great job, Mel.

Heart Eyes

I love this story, but editing could be a bit better. I tried to see iF it was a regional thing, but I think it was just incorrect tense in some places. Also Avery described himself as a healthy mama’s boy so I would have loved to see Rehtaeh and her meeting her for the first time.
