'Harriet Minter offers a one-stop resource for those working from home or those who want to work from home but are still sceptical.' - The Financial Times ' . . . a must-read for post-Covid times.' - People Management Magazine The no bullsh*t guide to getting your work and life on track in the new flexible workplace.
Virtually every industry is making lasting changes that will open doors to a more flexible working week. So how do we adjust, thrive and excel in an environment where glitchy daily video conferences are the norm?
By turns fierce, funny and highly practical, Harriet Minter will show you the skills to be effective and creative during the day-to-day. Harriet breaks down how to be an inspiring and energising manager (either remotely or to a flexibly working team), how to create and thrive in a high-trust culture (on a small and large scale) and most importantly how to achieve your ambition and propel your career forwards.
Packed full of hard-won tricks, tips and tools, Harriet Minter draws on her own experience as a careers coach and adviser to companies on their flexible working culture to help you bring your best self to work - from your living room.
The author obviously started writing this before the pandemic that brought the world to it's knees and or working from home. And that's fine because rather than living at work as we all are currently she aims for a world where we are all less anxious and are able to work from home, advancing our careers, building our teams and taking care of our mental health as we do so. This book is also timely to read as I think behaviours will have to change post Covid-19. We won't be regular 9-5ers but actually think about when you are most and least productive work wise. And promote that to your colleagues as when you will be available. It is and it isn't ground breaking stuff - good news only on a Friday, no ominous emails saying let's talk about this on Monday etc. It's a book I will be recommending to many and most likely sending to my CEO.
I’ve always been a big supporter of flexible working, whether it be choosing your own schedule and/or choosing the place where you work. So when I saw this book, I was intrigued to see how aligned it would be to my understanding. It was!
I really liked how the book was structured; it was easy to understand and follow. Additionally, I really loved how the author didn’t just present an idea as a must-follow ‘just because’. She also provided the pros and cons alongside the idea, and in many places she encouraged the readers to choose what would be best for themselves.
This is a great book which I would recommend to anyone, especially those who struggles to adjust to the new way of working; remotely.
