Eldentimber #6

Genevieve of Dragon Ridge

Rate this book
Genevieve is no stranger to heartache, but ever since the dragons saved her ten years ago, she’s been content. Though it’s unheard of for a human girl to live in a dragon flight, Genevieve doesn’t mind. She has a family, scaled though they may be, and she enjoys her quiet, simple existence.

However, her routine is abruptly disturbed the day a half-dead prince is dropped into her life.

Lionel of Vernow committed a crime against the dragons, and in order to keep peace in the kingdoms, he must pay. Genevieve would rather execute the man and be done with it, but instead, she’s tasked with his care.

Genevieve quickly learns Lionel is as prickly as a hedgehog, as surly as a mountain cat, and as stubborn as any dragon. She also discovers Lionel’s injuries aren’t limited to those of flesh and bone. There’s pain in the disgraced prince’s past—pain that calls to her own broken heart.

In saving him, she just might save herself. But how can a wounded girl heal a wounded prince?

Charming!

I really enjoyed the world building in this one. Such a fun setting, especially the beginning while Genevieve is living with her dragon family. Genevieve is just a very likable character, easy to relate to and witty! I loved her sense of humor and the banter she had with Lionel. Lionel was gruff and grumpy but even he couldn't resist Genevieve's endearing personality. I thought the overall story was very enjoyable, and kept me engaged. It was well written and Ms. Tapscott continues to be one of my favorite storytellers.

This is book six in the Eldentimber series, but stands very well on its own. I read book one a few years back and haven't read the others (yet) and didnt feel lost at all. I love when a series is like that and each book can stand on its own.

I am SO happy to have a new book to add to one of my favorite series by author Shari L. Tapscott. The Eldentimber series is full of adventure, fantasy and romance. They are so fun and suitable for teenagers on up. You probably don't HAVE to read all the books in this series in order, but you will be much happier if you do. This story in particular has all the past characters mentioned throughout and together toward the end. It would just mean more if you had their backstory. Plus, Lionel makes his first appearance at the beginning of the series so if you want to know more about him you really should read this whole series.

Lionel. Lionel. If you love a bad boy turned good, this is your story. Poor Lionel has had a rough go of life with a father who is more monster than human and doesn't even deserve the title of father. It's no wonder Lionel is messed up but then enters Genevieve and everything turns upside down. I loved Genevieve and her dragons. I loved Lionel too. I just loved this book. The whole thing. Gah. It was so endearing. These two deserved the happiest of endings if any two people ever did. It was a long time coming but well worth the wait.

Have I mentioned that this series is one of my favorites? This author is also one of my favorites. If you haven't read anything by her, you are really missing out. She has books in so many genres, you are sure to find something you will like. Fantasy, Fairy Tale Retellings, Urban Fantasy, Contemporary Romance (sweet). I love them all.

Content: mention of abuse, kissing, mild peril, mild violence.

- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

This author can write a great story! Oh my, was this one good. I’m having a hard time reviewing it because my mind is in so many different parts of the book. Did I love Genevieve and Lionel? Um... yes! Their banter was awesome and I loved how their relationship developed. It was also unique in the fact that this story takes place over decades of time. It was how I love to read a book. Written where I get all the good stuff with out all the fillers. I can’t stand pages and pages of descriptions. I know some of you love them and God bless you, but I don’t. My mind can create a world just fine, just give me the dialogue and the setting and I’m good.

This book wasn’t 100% perfect, but it still gave me my happy sighs and my curling toes moments. I also loved the fact that I didn’t read the description before I dove in. I just knew I loved this author and she had a new book. That’s all I need to know.

Go read it! You’re welcome!!

What a great conclusion to the series. Lionel, the villain of book 1, gets his own story of redemption, love, and a HPE. His dark past sheds a lot of light on how he got to be the way he was, and you can’t help but feel for him. Genevieve is my favorite type of heroine, strong, skilled, and compassionate… And of course, dragons are always awesome 🤓

I think Elodie is still my favorite of the series, but this one is a close second.

Content:
There’s no foul language or sex. There is some violence, but it’s not excessive. The romance is sweet and doesn’t go beyond kissing. There is magic. There’s no mention of faith or God.

Trigger warning - there are multiple evil and abusive fathers in this story

I loved this story! Genevieve is my favorite type of leading lady...spunky, funny, and strong willed...and Lionel, well let’s just say Genevieve brings out the best in him. By the end of the book, he has so won me over that I think he might be my favorite Prince in the Eldentimber series.
It’s been years since I last read this series but I loved jumping back into this world. Also, this story has talking dragons and it just made everything ten times better! You can’t help but fall in love with all the dragons.
Anyway, this was another super entertaining book. I didn’t know I needed Lionel’s story but I’m so happy we got it! This is probably the last book in the series but I sure wouldn’t mind getting Oliver’s story...or even Aubrey’s, too. A girl can dream! ;-)

I'm such a sucker for a grumpy bad guy being redeemed into a good guy! In this book, the evil Lionel, villain of book one, gets his redemption and happy ending. And it might just be my favorite of the entire series! Lionel and Genevieve have such a long road, and it is an adorable romance!

I cannot!! 😍 Shari is one of my favorite fantasy authors ever!! I’ve read almost every single one of her books and looove them so much!! I was so excited to finally be able to read Genevieve of Dragon Ridge, the last book in this series, and it was so reminiscent and beautiful. 😭😍 I couldn’t remember a decent amount about different characters because it’s been a long time since I read the rest of the series, yet even so I never felt lost or like I was missing something.

I absolutely loved Genevieve and her personality!! She was so fun. I loved how she was this strong character living with dragons, yet she was still broken and hurting inside. She and Lionel compliment each other SO WELL!! I did not like Lionel at all in the first book (like seriously hated him), so I was intrigued to see he got his own book, and let me just say I love him now!! What he’d done in the past was horrible, but when he was at his lowest of lows, he found Genevieve and she helped heal him. I loved seeing how he changed and made an effort to apologize to the people he’d hurt in the past. I love a good redemption story, and this one was fabulous!! 😍😍😍 Also their banter was priceless. I laughed so much reading this!! 😂

All of the side characters were written so well and now I want stories for all of them. 😅😂😂 I mean can we please get books for Oliver and Aubrey?? 🙏🏻 I absolutely love when books bring in the MCS from previous books in the series. It was so fun seeing all of them, and this one overlapped with a scene from Elodie, so that was really cool!!

Also side-note but I loved the dragons so much. Their personalities were the BEST! 🤣 The world building with them was great!

The plot of this book was a little slower than the others, yet I feel like it was perfect for this story. It was more centered around the characters and their stories than some big plot, and honestly I loved it! That’s not to say there wasn’t tense and actiony scenes, because there was. 😋 And man did my heart HURT. That time jump killed me! 😭😭😭 I love how Shari wrote Genevieve and Lionel’s romance, how it went wasn’t a steady uphill climb but instead they really had to fight for it. It shows how true their love was. 😍😭😭

Shari’s books are always clean, never going further than a passionate kiss, which I appreciate so much!! This one was actually on the cleaner side, which was funny to me since this was Lionel’s story. 😂

If you haven’t read this series yet, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you do!! From Pippa of Lauramore to this book, they’re all FANTASTIC!! And so are literally every other series she’s ever written. 🤩🤩🤩

Light-hearted and sweet. The h had quite a few lines that made me smirk early on and I liked both MCs.
I have not read any of the previous books in the series. Events from other books were mentioned (possibly more than I realised) and characters from other books also made appearances but I didn't feel lost.
One thing greatly diminished this otherwise enjoyable story for me, but I still definitely liked it.
What annoyed me may not affect someone else's enjoyment of the story. I know if I could have ignored this would have been a 4 star read.

More details as to why I was annoyed me (bigger spoilers):

This was pretty good. Cranky injured prince nursed by snarky woodcutters daughter raised by dragons. First half of the story is adorable. Then 8-year separation with no contact, which sucks. Not a fan of time lapses. Got pretty worried that the book would follow all the sucky tropes. Like “we’ve been apart so long and now you aren’t reacting how I thought you would... maybe they don’t like me anymore?” And then, “oh no, he’s a prince and I’m a commoner, we can’t be together.” Etc. Etc. The false start conflicts are numerous but brief (thank goodness). And then, dun dun dunnn! The evil king of Vernow! Lionel’s dad is up to his manipulations and creepiness. Again. But his efforts are also prematurely squashed, but in a highly satisfying way. Really, you could get plot-conflict whiplash from the last half of this book. But glad I read it, cause I really liked the main couple. They were great as characters and their relationship was awesome. This is a standalone, but you may want to read Pippa of Lauramore and Grace of Vernow first. The story will make more sense and mean more if you do. We get quite a few references to these stories that you’ll miss out on if you haven’t read them yet.

Genevieve of Dragon Ridge (The Eldentimber Series Book 6) by Shari L. Tapscott is part of a series that goes in chronological order where some characters overlap. That said, Book 6 can also be read as a standalone.

I began this book when it was a serial in the author's newsletter. When I got the ARC, I started again from the beginning because it's so good.

A broken Prince Lionel gets dropped at Genevieve's feet. Tarith, the dragon leader, says that Lionel must stay to pay off his crimes, and she must care for him. Lionel is in bad shape and has a broken leg, but he doesn't want Genevieve's help. She isn't interested in helping him either. What was Tarith thinking? This is an impossible task, especially since the patient and nurse are both stubborn. Will our heroes get their HEA?

This story has adventure, humor, and deeper moments too. I found some of the scene changes were choppy. They happened too fast. Other than that, the pacing was good. The story held my attention and I loved the ending.

Here's one of my favorite quotes and it's from Chapter 13:
I feel as if my world has been shaken. My life was carefully divided into two segments - my childhood and my time with the dragons. The two don't belong together; they shouldn't overlap.

If you get Shari's newsletter this book will be familiar to you, she serialized it for us and I really enjoyed reading each new episode.

Genevieve was the unwanted step daughter of a powerful man, and her mother wasn't a very strong woman. After the birth of their son, Genevieve is taken to the place where maiden's are sacrificed to the dragons - but unbeknownst to her family and friends (who were told she chose to make the sacrifice) the dragons took pity on this 11 year old girl and made her part of their "flight" - she was now considered by the dragons as a part of their family with all the rights of a dragon. She grew up strong, able to fend for herself and provide for herself. Then one day the head of the dragon flight brings back a man, a battered and beaten man - plopped down in front of her and she was told to care for him. She is not a happy camper and there is quite a bit of snarky conversation that passes between the two, until they slowly learn each other's stories. Just when they are falling in love and making promises to each other... well, you'll have to read the book to find out what happens next!

This is a clean read.

My favorite installment in the series!

When this story began as a blog book, I looked forward to each released scene as a relaxing reprieve in my hectic life. I loved the idea of a disgraced Lionel getting a redemption arc with a feisty and sarcastic heroine to help him along the way.
When Shari announced the weekly installments would be postponed so the entire book would be released instead, I was both sad to not have a weekly treat in my inbox and excited that I would be able to binge the story in one day. It was absolutely worth the wait!
There were twists I didn't see coming, some I did, all while tying together the stories of several other characters in the series. Next to Sheirsha's story, I found this to be one of the most emotionally charged novels in the series and I couldn't put it down.
Genevieve and Lionel's story was one of finding family and redemption, was well written, and will definitely put a smile on your face. I highly recommend this romantic adventure

After having read near half of the book in blog form, I was interested to see how this story wrapped up. I love the dragons, and the family dynamic there, as well as Genevieve’s backstory. Lionel definitely has some new character development, and I like who he becomes. As much as I understand why Genevieve leaves to help raise her half brother, the fact that eight years passes with zero contact between she and Lionel doesn’t add up to me. She sees a few of her dragons once a season, but she doesn’t return to Dragon Ridge to visit Tarith or the others? She doesn’t go back and yell at Lionel for not coming? That doesn’t seem like her at all.

It also bothers me that some dude steps in and states that he’s courting her, and she says nothing. I feel like Genevieve was at first portrayed as fierce and independent, but when she leaves the Ridge, she becomes quiet and complacent. I missed the former Genevieve. Overall though, I enjoyed the story and I feel like it was a good way to end the series.

I must say it’s been a long time since I’ve read the other novels in this series. They did not come back to me while reading this, so I was a bit confused. I didn’t find the story terribly enthralling. It doesn’t seem to have a really big plot arc. There’s just this grumpy prince and this equally as grumpy girl who lives with dragons. I couldn’t quite figure out where the story was going. And then there was this huge 8 years later gap. I was like what? I don’t know if that had to happen because of the other novels or what. The the motivations of Lionel’s father at the end just felt forced, just to give the book a final bit of action. All in all, just a few delicious moments. I really wanted more. But I do guess this satisfies readers’ curiosity over what happened to Lionel. I will say I love the whole dragon family thing. I guess it was nice for readers to see the other characters from the other novels in this series show up in this one too.

I went from my least favorite in the series to my absolute favorite in the series back to back.

Honestly, when I read the intro and the book was dedicated to everyone that had asked for Lionel’s story; that was not me. Not in the least. Lionel only ever gave me bad vibes and when he was whisked off by dragons I figured “good riddance” and I never thought about him again.

But man. Man, oh man.

His character growth. His sense of humour. His banter with Genevieve. I could not have asked for more. I was over here begging for Irving's story for five books when apparently I should have been one of those people this book was dedicated to.

This was found family in the best way, twice over (kind of) plus the addition of (almost) everyone from all the other books brought together again. Geneveive’s story was heartbreaking, and her character was so strong and so fun.

This was the best way to end this series and I am over the moon with this book.

I really liked Genevieve of Dragon Ridge! Shari Tapscott is one of the first indie authors I remember reading, and I always enjoy her books! This is book 6 in the Eldentimber series, and I recommend reading them in order as there are characters and plot-lines from earlier books that are mentioned in this book. It was fun to see those characters again!

Genevieve was sacrificed by her stepfather to the dragons, but they saved her and adopted her instead of killing her. Genevieve’s struggle with feelings of abandonment and worthiness was well written, and I loved the banter between her and Lionel. There’s also a redemption arc in this story, and I always enjoy those!

If you enjoy clean fantasy, this is a great series! It’s one of my favorite indie fantasy series, and I highly recommend it!

The first book in this series, Pippa of Lauramore, is in my top ten favorite books I've ever read. It's a little bittersweet to read Genevieve's story as it's rather like the end of an age. But it doesn't disappoint. This was such a great ending to a wonderful series. The characters have great chemistry, and I loved the way that Tapscott wove little snippets and the timeline in from the other books. That was a lovely touch that I wasn't expecting. The book spans a significantly larger timeline than most of Tapscott's other books in this series, and I wasn't overly wild about that, but I like the reasoning behind it. It's logical and plays very nicely with the plot.
All considered, another strong novel, and well worth the read.

Absolutely wonderful! *happy sigh*

This story so beautifully wraps up the Eldentimber series! Lionel was such an awful person in the first book; how satisfying, if not fitting, that the series ends with his healing & redemption.

If you haven't read the previous books in the series, some of the scenes may seem a bit cursory, but that's because they were taking place parallel to some of the other characters' stories in which Lionel & Genevieve are on the periphery. There's sufficient explanation to follow their story without reading the previous books, but I don't know if one can fully appreciate Lionel's transformation without them.

Needless to say, this is now my favorite book in the series!

*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

Another great addition to the series!!

I've loved every single Eldertimber book in the series, and this one was no exception. Genevieve was such a fun character, but I thought there was no hope of me EVER liking Lionel, the disgraced Prince from Vernow, because of the events in book one, Pippa of Lauramore. I was glad to be proven wrong. After they became friends, Genevieve and Lionel were so cute together, and I couldn't wait for more moments when their friendship was on the verge of something more.
"Is this a confession?"
"Do you want it to be?"
Swoon! It was fun seeing character cameos from different books, and I really enjoyed the story. I stayed up late to finish it--my best compliment to the author.

Weak characters, weak plot.

I thought the description of the book sounded really fascinating, so I was pretty excited going in. I wasn't interested in any of the other books that were in the series but this one looked interesting. It unfortunately failed to deliver on its promise. The characters are very weak with absolutely no chemistry between them, and the pot leaves a lot to be desired.
What made me give this book only a one star is the eight year time jump that happens in the middle of the book. To make matters worse, the guy she loves breaks his promise to her, and essentially ghosts her for the entire eight years, but then she forgives him and takes him back.

Adorable story, especially loved the first half. The teasing and banter between Genevieve and Lionel made it an adorable and funny read!
The romance was too little in the second half, in my opinion. They haven't seen each other in eight years, and yes Genevieve was angry, but Lionel required very little to pull through. They were adorable, no question, but not as richly as in the first half.

Love the cover too, just wished that Lionel would also sport his light scruff, would better fit his description.

Spicy, yet clean Fantasy Romance

Rimantic Fantasy that was spicy, yet clean. I love the stories around Lionel, and how he goes from immature, but well-meaning in Grace of Vernow, to villain in Pippa of Lauramore, to hero in Genevieve of Dragon Ridge. I feel like Wicked-Witch story retellings are common for female villainesses, but less common for males, particularly across multiple books.

Fantastic!

I think this is my new favorite! I love that we get to see a relationship develop and ripen over years not months or days. It feels much more real. I love that there are elements of Jane Austen’s Persuasion through the storyline. I adore the banter between Lionel and Genevieve. There is so much to love about this love story. 10/10 fantastic!

It feels like I waited forever

I happily anticipated reading this story, having followed the chapter released blog, and it did not disappoint. There were some changes of course but the core that I loved, remains. There was that one part though, that had me tense and holding my breath, but I pushed through to a satisfying end. Over all, a good read.

Lionel and Genevieve bring Eldentimber full circle

I'm not sure what I loved more in this book, getting to know Genevieve, finding out who Lionel really is, or the dragons. Probably the dragons. I really hope we get to come back to Eldentimber, because these characters feel like family.

I think I would have appreciated this book even more if I'd recently read the Eldentimber series (it's been a while and my memories of it are fuzzy). However, it was still a phenomenal read. The character development and growth and enemy-to-friend-to-love progression were written really well. It was just a delightful book and definitely one I'll reread.

It was clean, no cursing, and only kissing.

Genevieve has an interesting story. I was entertained. It wasn’t crazy fast or slow.

Cons: It was a bit hard to not hate Lionel since he was the villain in the previous books. It was good to watch him change and grow. In the end they. finally get together
