Lady Claudia has spent her childhood at the isolated manor of her father, the Earl of Winley. Even though she didn't have many people in her life, she never felt the lack of company, as she always had an overwhelming interest in plants and herbs. Unbeknown to her father, Claudia has created a small secret garden on the estate, dedicating most of her time to her peculiar fascination. Little did she know that a rash on her hands would soon lead her to an encounter with the man of her dreams... From the very first moment she sees the attractive apothecary, she simply cannot stop daydreaming about his charming smile. With growing feelings overpowering her, will she manage to give love a chance to flourish without ending up with a broken heart?
Lucas Highgate is a man who knows what he wants from life. Although he is the youngest son of a baron, he has an overarching longing for one thing; to become an apothecary and learn how to heal with plants. Determined to follow his heart, he will refuse a stable life at the estate of his father and proceed with opening the apothecary shop of his dreams. When Claudia appears at his shop in need of a quick-healing tonic for rashes, her astonishing beauty makes his heart skip a beat. He is deeply impressed by the mesmerising woman's passion for herbs, and the sparkles of pure love instantly start appearing between them. Despite never thinking love was on the cards for him, will Lucas let Claudia bring sunshine to his life and heart?
With every passing day, the love between Claudia and Lucas steadily grows through ingeniously-contrived visits to the shop. Thrown together by destiny, neither of them can deny their special connection for long. However, Claudia's father will force her into a marriage with a dangerous man that she's scared of, a decision that will threaten to tear Claudia and Lucas apart forever. With the odds stacked against them, will the two of them fight for their emotions and choose the path of their own life? Can their love truly overcome it all, or are their hearts doomed to break into million pieces?
Lady Claudia was a dtr of an earl low on funds. Her sire invited a couple & their son & 2 other men-all 3 single as houseguests. He gave dtr 2 hours notice before the guests were expected to arrive. How would they house & feed guests? One of the 3 acted creepy. This guy made her doubt her ability to run a household, which she'd already done for 9 years!!!
Lady C loved herbs and the study of botany. She sought the help of Lucas, the apothecary, for a skin rash on her hands. She + her maid visited his shop several times. He told the h he had 5-6 customers a week, most of whom bartered w/ goods for his business. How did he survive on this?
The words used herein were too stilted and repetitious IE I reckon, Grand!, MCs showed too much self-doubt and immaturity. How could the hero support her w/ bartering? His customers seldom used coins. This story had a dream-like quality. If the MCs were more connected to reality & pride in self, it would've been a more enjoyable story?
Claudia and Lucas's story was grand. This was a delightful story about a young woman who is pretty much ignored has a love of growing who finds someone who cares for her. A Baron’s son who wants to become an apothecary learning how to heal with the use of plants he and the young woman have a great deal in common. When events cause them to meet the attraction is there and so begins their journey Claudia and Lucas work through some bumps like her father and his wanted her to marry someone she is fearful of. Her father is a fool and you know it right from the start that character would not know a good thing even it jumped up and bit him. The question is will he ever realize it? Etta, Albert, and Lady Abermale were great secondary characters with them a bit of danger I found this book to be a joy to read.
A delightfully gripping story with wonderful characters
This is a delightfully gripping story that has some wonderfully portrayed characters. This clean and sweet plot, has the two main characters having to outwit one foe and a parent who has ignored his daughter for years, to follow their dreams. The extended epilogue is used to great effect, to give an insight into their future lives. I read an ARC copy.
A Blooming Love for the Apothecary A Historical Regency Romance Book
This is a very good and enjoyable story about a young woman whose father picks suitors for her but she falls for Luke the Apothecary and then there are threats from one of the lords. There are twists and turns but the couple that belongs together are finally together. The characters are strong and courageous and the extended epilogue shows happiness.Awesome read
The prose was stilted. The characters were too old to be so naive. The villain was one-dimensional. The father was useless. Snobbery and arrogance were societal controls. Wasted time reading it.
Claudia’s dad invites 3 young men in as suitors to marry his daughter to her surprise. In the meantime, she has fallen for the town apothecary. Good story.
