I'm not sure where I heard about this specific title; however, it was a solid introduction to the series. I know that Kei Sanbe also created Erased which is another manga that I'm interested in checking out.
For the Kid I Saw in My Dreams was not what I was expecting it to be based on the cover. I didn't know much going in, but the story itself focuses on Senri who has lost his entire family to murder. While Senri doesn't feel much about the loss of his father and mother (father was abusive and he felt like his mom just took the abuse), he is struggling with the loss of his twin brother. The two have a special connection and his death impacted him in great ways. Senri then spends time hunting for the killer to enact his own form of revenge. It's interesting watching how Senri operates around people. Its complicated, but often understandable. This definitely reads as a mystery/thriller. Just when readers think that Senri is going to gain a solid lead, they realize that another complex aspect of the plot comes into play. For me, I don't feel like anything mind-blowing occurs, but it is a solid set-up to the series. I enjoyed the artwork; however, I really don't enjoy the way Sanbe draws the lips of his female presenting characters. They just feel extremely out of place (haha I know it's a personal preference). Overall, it was a good read and I'll be continuing with the series.

Nuestro protagonista, perdió a su familia cuando era un niño y pudo ver con sus propios ojos el cuerpo sin vida de sus padres. Eso hizo que una rabia y odio despertara en él y se fijó una meta. Saber por qué pasó todo aquello y encontrar al culpable para matarlo. Por ello, lo veremos de adolescente con su objetivo fijo, aunque su amiga de la infancia tratará de ayudarlo.
Me lo leí de una sentada y me dejó así 😱, me ha gustado muchísimo y estoy deseando saber cómo continua esta historia.

While not a homerun like Erased (please watch or read that one) this one is still intriguing. With a teen trying to get revenge on a killer who murdered his whole family he's hellbent on living a tough life. But when his scheme backfires will it end badly for him?
I enjoyed this one for its mysterious storyline and some surprising twist. The art is also really solid. I don't love any of the characters though and it seems like it can go only so many places. Not in love with it but intrigued enough to read another volume.

So, this was fine, but Sanbe's character designs of the two leads are SO similar to the characters in ERASED - it honestly kept pulling me out of the story.
Otherwise, this is a fine mystery/thriller. It's got the grit of ERASED and also grapples with child abuse/neglect, with a dash of the surreal/out of the ordinary. The premise of ERASED had a much better hook than this imo, but the mystery is intriguing enough so far that I want to read volume 2.

Der Auftakt der neuen Reihe von Sanbe Kei (Erased, die Stadt in der es mich nicht gibt) war einfach sooooooooo fucking unfassbar gut! Es war spannend, traurig, grausam, verwirrend... Einfach alles und mega gut! Ich kann nicht fassen, dass ich noch nicht mal weiß, wann es endlich Band 2 geben wird xx mein Herz xx

This seems promising. I thoroughly enjoyed ERASED (the anime at least, haven't read the manga) and this looks like it could be equally enjoyable. The only real criticism is that the female lead looks almost exactly like the mom from ERASED.

I picked this up because I enjoyed the author's Erased, Vol. 1. Like that series, there is a splash of the supernatural, a lot of crime thriller, and some real predictable but still interesting twists. Unfortunately, the protagonist this time is a bit less likeable as traumatic events in his past have left him a dark and morally compromised figure. It's good enough to give the next couple volumes a go at least.

Hmmm...I don't know how I feel about this. It's probably more violent than I would normally put in my teen section, and the art is mostly really pretty and good, except I hate the way the artist draws the main character's female friend - he gave her a real bimbo look, with giant lips that look so out of place on an otherwise decent character.
It was a really quick read, and the mystery/search for the killer kept me intrigued while I was reading it, but I don't know that it was enough to get me to pick up future volumes.

13 years ago, a man entered Senzi's home, murdered his parents, and kidnapped his twin brother, only to kill him later. Since then, Senzi has vowed to find this "Fire Man" and kill him.
This was a really well-plotted start to this thriller series. The art is merely ok, but the story stands alone for its ability to hold a reader's attention. I sped through this and am really intrigued to know more!

Rating: 3.5 (rounded down). My first manga to read ✒ I had a hardcover edition with the excellent quality paper and print, very pleasurable to hold in hands and read. However, story and characters didn't quite impress me. Too much violence for my taste and I would say a shallow plot. I ordered a second part from the local library to give this manga a chance, and also get deeper in the story itself. Maybe, it is just a slow start for the book.

Okay so my gf gave me this and she had problems getting into it as she’s reading erased and the characters are re used. For me this wasn’t a problem tho and I enjoyed reading it, I might have a slight crush on Enan.. she’s badass 🙏

Promising start. It's refreshing to read a thriller manga - and especially one with subtle supernatural elements. Some call Sanbe's art ugly, but personally I like it and I think it fits the story well.

While I wouldn't go so far to say that it is a night and day difference, much of what I appreciated in Erased has vanished in For the Kid in my Dreams: the wonderfully-realized settings in Erased have caved in to an ambiguous squalor in For the Kid in my Dreams; countless sympathetic characters (even the villain!) are replaced by grumbling ciphers; even the mangas' superpowers have traded from a unique viewpoint on time and memory to the twin telepathy shtick.

Senri est un adolescent comme les autres ou presque. Il est orphelin. Son père étant plutôt violent lors de sa jeunesse, son frère jumeau l’enfermait régulièrement dans un placard pour subir les coups à sa place. Enfin, ça ne changeait pas grand-chose, car lui et son jumeau avait une connexion particulière. Ce que l’un ressent, l’autre le ressent également, accompagné d’une vision parfois. Un jour, rien ne s’est passé comme d’habitude. Il a senti une douleur dans le bras horrible et en sortant du placard ses parents étaient morts et Kazuto avait disparu. Une vision de Kazuto lui est venu, le bras de l’homme avec une cicatrice particulière, qui sort du lors. Treize ans plus tard, il voit un reportage à la télé, avec en fond un homme dont on ne voit que le bras… Qui contient les fameuses cicatrices. Il a une piste. Il ne souhaite qu’une chose, tuer le meurtrier de son frère.
J’avais déjà beaucoup aimé Erased du même auteur, alors découvrir sa nouvelle saga était pour moi inévitable. De plus, j’adore le principe. Des jumeaux qui sont tellement connectés, qu’ils ressentent ce que l’autre vis et subit. Ce premier tome est introductif et il nous montre bien l’univers dans lequel évolue actuellement Senri. Pourtant, on sent son envie de vengeance toujours présente et l’apparition de ce bras à la télévision réveille sa haine ! Un personnage fort en caractère et qui est très intriguant. On a envie d’en apprendre plus sur Senri, sur cet homme à la mystérieuse cicatrice. Puis cette fin… J’ai très hâte que le prochain tome sorte.
C’est une histoire vraiment géniale. Senri n’a pas perdu son objectif de vue, même treize ans plus tard. Il veut retrouver l’homme à la cicatrice et il pense avoir une piste. Ça ne sera pas simple, car il y aura d’autres personnes sur son chemin qui risque de lui faire obstacle. C’est une histoire que je trouve originale et prenante. Une intrigue qui se construit progressivement dans ce premier tome et qui se conclut sur un cliffhanger beau comme tout. Très hâte de découvrir la suite !

The same creator of "Erased," an incredible story of a man who gets an opportunity to travel back in time to stop a serial killer in his hometown, this story kicks off with a similar gruesome plot. A young boy is a sole survivor of a slaughter - his parents and twin brother were killed in their home by an unknown man - and the only clue he has is that the man has an unique scar on his right arm. Fast forward to current day, the survivor is now an older teenager and his only mission in life to kill the man who killed his twin brother.
Initially the plot intrigued me, but with all the additional elements - your standard childhood female friend who tries to stop you from being bad, your clueless grandparents, the involvement in gang activity to swindle people out of their money - make this story very stereotypical and predictable. The protagonist doesn't have a developed personality to make him anything - interesting, funny, kind, troubled, whatever - he is just simple an angry person. There is nothing to him that makes the reader gravitate towards him and root for justice for his horrific past. He is just kind of... there, mad all the time.
I might check out the rest of the series at a later time to try again and hope for more developed, interesting story and character growth.

Senri grew up first in an orphanage, then with his grandparents, but has grown into an angry young man with a violent streak, running scams for money and always on the hunt for the man who took his brother. One day he glimpses an unexpected clue that sends him hot on the trail, but unexpected developments put his life in imminent danger!
There is one prominent female character, a friend from orphanage days who acts as the voice of reason and has a backstory that makes her relate to his, but she is portrayed in an objectified way (slightly exaggerated figure, bedroom eyes, and highly exaggerated giant lips - like Sambo-caricature-style lips, even in flashbacks of her as a little kid) which might be off-putting to some readers.
I'm not as taken with this story as I was with 'Island in a Puddle' and 'Erased', but I am interested to see where it goes.
Content concerns: domestic violence, child neglect, bullying (including physical violence), moderate swearing (though not gratuitous), criminal activity (scams, murder, attempted murder)

I wanted to read this, as Erased, also by Kei Sanbe was one of the first Manga's I have read and watched and I really enjoyed the story-telling and pace of that. In this Manga, Senri's entire family is murdered. While he doesn't care much about his abusive father and his abused mother dying, losing his twin brother changes him and here begins the narrative of him gaining revenge. If you've read Erased, you might be distracted like I was due to the resemblance of the main characters. You could argue they are the same! Also, this is rated as a Young Adult, but given some of the violence, I don't know if it can truly be classed as that. Apart from this, the thriller element is enjoyable to read with plenty of twists and supernatural elements thrown in. The twin-telepathy phenomenon also plays a key part in the story. I like how Senri's morality is addressed throughout about what is right and wrong. There is an anime version of this, but I have not yet had a chance to watch this. I don't rate the story as highly as Erased but still a good one-time read.

It was a Kei Sanbe lunch as I read this one and Island in a Puddle which have overarching themes and connections to his other famous work, Erased, too.
Darker topics emerge as the main character is a twin whose family had been murdered while Senri sat alone until someone discovered him. The gory scene is laid out as are other memories that will creep in because Senri and his twin had deep connections and the last few physical connections are slipping away. Senri now believes that his brother is dead and seeks revenge on the killer(s). He's not so much worried about avenging his mother, abused by their father, who wreaked havoc on the whole family, but just his brother.
The "fire" clues begin to heighten the mystery along with the drawing and a girl who he knows and her own past.

I came upon this manga not knowing it was written by the same author as Erased, coincidentally an anime (based on wildly popular manga if its own) I had watched a week or so before. These two stories certainly feel cut from the same cloth.
As with Erased, I was really intrigued by the crime-mystery angle to the story, as well as the inclusion of a magical/paranormal/fantasy aspect to the main character.
Kei Sanbe loves his dark and brooding male leads and this is certainly no different. He also seems to have a way of writing his female characters that some might have issue with. I'm somewhat agnostic on the subject but understand both sides of that argument.
I'm excited to see how this unfolds in the remainder of the series.

This was an easy 3.5 stars for me. The pacing was a little too fast for me and it was almost hard to follow at times. Most of the times I just fear it’s a translation thing more than a pacing or structure gripe but this one was certainly an issue with the pacing. While the ending did hook me and kinda gave me that itch to continue the series, I’m not sure if I immediately will. The art was unique and I liked seeing an almost more harsh, accented art style that you don’t usually see in manga. I’m curious to continue this series and might have to revisit it whenever I finish up some other manga series. I have going on. If you’re into a murder mystery, psychological thriller this could be for you.

Senji grew up in a broken home. His father was an alcoholic who would beat their mother any chance he got (chapter 2). Kazuto and Senji are twins and they share a special bond in the fact that when one feels pain, so does the other. But one day the parents were killed ( chapter 20) and his brother was gone. Since that day he will do anything to find the killer. I really did like this manga; its fiction and I would rate it 4 stars. This manga makes you excited to know what’s next and the real story behind what happen, I love the way the story is centered in a love between brothers that will do anything to protect each other. This book contains abuse, blood, and murder.

Hat mich sehr angesprochen: Senri definitiv nicht der typische Held - er ist getrieben, kennt kaum Skrupel und hat einen gefährlichen Hang zur Selbstzerstörung - trotzdem hab ich ihn ins Herz geschlossen und möchte keinen Schritt seiner Reise mehr verpassen!
Ich entdecke immer wieder Details, auf die ich nach dem Lesen zurückblicken kann, um mir eine Gänsehaut zu verursachen und freue mich auf jeden neuen Band, weil ich wissen möchte, worüber ich als nächstes staunen darf.

When I accidentally saw this book on book self of the library, I got excited because I loved Erased series by Kei Sanbe. This manga has similar premise than Erased but the story is totally different. There is an unsolved murder mystery and the main character has a special power which might help him solve the murder mystery. I can't tell what is the special power because I don't want to spoil anything but I really enjoyed this first volume.
I will definitely read the sequel because I have already borrowed the sequel from my library.
