This was just perfect. Every installment in the Lady Dreamscapes series feels like coming home to family. In this latest addition, the Nobles embark on an adventure into an alternate timeline.
I can’t say much for risk of spoilers, but OMG, this was SOOOOO COOL! It was everything I wanted and more. In the alternate timeline, Murder and Grant find a forest filled with an amazing surprise (hint: “Life finds a way.”). UNCHANGING was satisfying on so many levels and thrilled the 90s kid inside me. This short story was a microcosm of everything I love about Lady Dreamscapes: wit and wonder, action and drama, magic and music, diversity and inclusion, and contemporary, historical, and pop culture references.
Not only is the story fantastic, but the formatting and styling are also gorgeous. Merkel crafts a product with each of his books and has perfected his brand. There are stories in novel, novella, and short story form, and this variation of structure expands and enlivens his universe. Merkel really built something beautiful here.
Mr. Merkel's latest offering is brief, so I shall refrain from giving anything away, not even a hint. I shall only state that this short story is certain to delight fans of Murder and Grant and will keep them clamoring for more!
Once again Merkel returns us to the wonderful world of Lady Dreamscapes and I for one eagerly dived back in.
This time, we join Murder and Grant as they travel to an alternate timeline that varies greatly from our own, and just so happens to contains dinosaurs as well.
Filled with his usual wit, humor, and sweet moments, Unchanging is a short and sweet masterpiece. I loved seeing Murder and Grant together again and off on another adventure. Their bond and special love for each transcends timelines and I would read one hundred short stories like this.
Kudos Merkel for another wonderful addition to the world of Lady Dreamscapes.
*I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest, voluntary review.*
Unchanging is the fourth book in A.C. Merkel’s Lady Dreamscapes series. In this book, Grant and Murder are still reconnecting after his years in the past. I enjoyed seeing how their interactions became more relaxed as the story continued. To help secure their own timeline, Murder and Grant first head to Timeline Lambda to interact with some creatures that once ruled our earth. The addition of these creatures to the series makes for an extremely fun and unpredictable read. A reader does not know what to expect in worlds with seemingly infinite possibilities. Unchanging is a short story, but it contains more reality-bending elements of the Lady Dreamscapes universe. I enjoyed this book very much.
