David Weatherlys "Monsters at the Crossroads" ist ein absolut fesselndes und brillant recherchiertes Werk, das tief in die faszinierende Welt der Grenzwesen und ungewöhnlichen Begegnungen eintaucht. Von den ersten Seiten an zieht Weatherlys packender Schreibstil den Leser in seinen Bann und lässt ihn nicht mehr los. Er präsentiert eine beeindruckende Bandbreite an Fällen, die von klassischen Kryptiden bis hin zu obskureren und unheimlicheren Phänomenen reichen, und verwebt diese mit historischen Kontexten und kulturellen Überlieferungen.
Was dieses Buch wirklich auszeichnet, ist Weatherlys akribische Herangehensweise. Er begnügt sich nicht mit oberflächlichen Erzählungen, sondern untersucht die Zeugenberichte detailliert, analysiert mögliche Erklärungen und präsentiert seine Erkenntnisse auf eine nachvollziehbare und überzeugende Weise. Monsters at the Crossroads: Cryptids & Legends of Indiana, is part of the ongoing series of "monsters by state" books from author and investigator David Weatherly.
The incredible front cover features "Oscar", the infamous "Beast of Busco" - a giant snapping turtle. But, there are far more creatures and witness encounters held within. Goblins, werewolves, bigfoot, aliens, giant serpents, and thunderbirds all creep from the shadows to get their time in the spotlight.
Each encounter details both witness statements, local news reports and official statements and investigations if available. Methodically researched and documented, my only criticism of the book (as with others in the series), is that the telling of the tale sometimes lacks thrill. The matter-of-fact tone is a credit to Weatherly's abilities as a researcher, but on occasion did impact the readability.
Overall, this is an interesting and comprehensive collection of cryptid encounters in Indiana, and nothing will stop me from moving on to the next!

Second Weatherly book I've read, both were rather dry cover-to-cover but impressive in their level of research. I liked learning about Indiana monsters.
