I'm just starting my senior year of college and the last thing I'm looking for is a man. Well, not the last thing. Okay, fine, I've always got my eyes out for a good time, but I don't need a boyfriend and I don't have time for anything serious. So, yes, my brother-in-law's overqualified assistant is hot, but he also talks like he went to finishing school and wears a suit when he goes clubbing. But whenever our bodies touch, I forget why this isn't a good idea. Right up until I find out his tailored clothing is concealing the scion of a crime family!
Joseph
If Alexis can't see beyond my family name that's her loss. I have much more important things to worry about than a beautiful, curvy coed who's been in over her head since nearly the moment I met her. But when she needs me, I can't let her down; I'm all that stands between her and certain destruction. Forced to man up and protect her, I'm beginning to see a side of myself I hadn't realized was there before. Maybe she was right all along. Maybe I am my father's son.
On several fronts. Even by the end of the book, we don’t know exactly what Joseph’s father did nor did we know why Joseph didn’t want to head the company now that , the criminal part of was going to crumble. Joseph came across as very naive for a 28 year old man who grew up in qn organized crime family. As for Alexis, she was insufferable. She was the definition of western entitlement. She judged Joseph about his dad without talking to him, then broke into Lena’s flat (how dare she?), landed herself into hot water and then used Joseph to save herself. Basically because of her he got mixed up into his dad’s affairs and she didn’t even have the decency to thank him for saving her life. She could have found him if she really wanted to beyond the lip service questions to Emily and Chris. She was also a hypocrite because she didn’t try very hard to find him and basically just got on with her life. She was also supposedly appalled by the trafficking but once she was safe she didn’t do anything to help or follow through or volunteer at a shelter or something. She was quite happy to continue her life in blissful ignorance. Her attitude of basically using her sex appeal to manipulate men was off putting. Lastly, I couldn’t see the romance and love story at all. It felt more like a lust driven relationship. So much so that Alexis kept behaving as if she could take Joseph or leave him. I hope that they will have both matured in the next book
2.50 Stars. (BW/AM). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. This is a long boring story, with a bunch of uninteresting characters doing all sorts of things. The hero, Joseph Lau, is a lawyer and wealthy son of a Chinese mob boss, it is unclear if Joseph has any involvement in his father's affairs. The heroine, Alexis, has a job but primarily is involved in college with the aim of becoming a lawyer. Joseph and Alexis meet at the club that Joseph that Jospeh co owns with his cousin who is dating Alexis' best friend. Alexis is not a "bad girl" but she lacks good judgment and is flirtatious and self-serving. The author doesn't show any romantic interactions between Joseph and Alexis. They have a couple of heavy petting and make-out sessions that eventually lead to sexual intercourse but no other intimacy. During the last 10 pages of the Epilogue, the author advises the reader that Alexis and Joseph are in love and plan to marry.
I love this story. It does not pad the reality of J's family lifestyle nor make the chemistry between J and Alisha stupify them so they just start having sex at inopportune times. Actually, Alisha's ability to stay in control of her body is one of the reasons I like her. I also like how the author realistically deals with J's situation and does not try to give it an unrealistic ending either. J is hot physically and mentally. I love this couple like I don't know what. I look forward to seeing them in future books.
I’ve been following this series from the beginning and I was wondering when we was going to find out what was popping off at Chris and Emily wedding. Glade Alexis and Joseph finally did the do! Loved it waiting patiently for the next book.
It was nice to read about Joseph and Alexis to see where the attraction displayed in the other series (An Arrangement) is played out😍. As with the other series this book does have taboo situations that may not be enjoyable to some⚠️.
There is more to Joseph than what meets the eye and Alexis accidentally stumbles into his dangerous world unknowingly😬. Alexis is all talk backing it up with little action and Joseph is eager but holds back. Their chemistry is hot and cold but steadily warm throughout till much later in the book🥵. Its unfortunate that Joseph is unwillingly pulled back into the family business but it was the only way to keep Alexis from harm. What he does to keep her safe is admirable especially against Paul and his men😤. The things their subjected to is crazy🤯 but when your life is in the line you do what you have to😰. Im glad they were able to get through it together and seal the deal at the end😘❤️.
The story has action and suspense with plenty of sexual tension. It does end in a HEA but there is definitely more to the story and I’m eagerly waiting for the next book. Def recommend reading if your the Arrangement👍🏽
but not bound by it. I love BWAM romances, but I hate that many of them are built around the premise of illegal activity or billionaire status. Not all Asian men are Triad, or Yakuza, or billionaire tech prodigies. The MLC , while the son of a notorious crime boss, was a refreshing departure from the stereotype. I enjoyed the storyline. There are a few notable things. First, the book is written from the two main characters’ point of view, switching back and forth. However, the FLC is written in first person, while the MLC is in third person. Second, although this is a complete, standalone storyline, it is obvious there are books preceding it. Minor characters, events and relationships are mentioned / referred to as if the reader knows about them. It’s not enough to detract from the storyline but it is noticeable.
I really enjoy this author’s books and I love how this one is constructed. It has three distinct parts and while I could anticipate some of the storyline, I was constantly surprised. Alexis and Joseph have great chemistry. The villain was both clear and ambiguous…huh! So many layers….it was great to catch up with Chris and Emily, too. I know that we will see all of these characters….and more again…can’t wait!!!!
I would have given this book 5*s but I held back because of the poor grammar. Being dyslexic, this book took me longer than usual to read. However, this bib not stop me from enjoying this book.
Some of the scenes, were a little. For example, one minute they are planning into the sea and the Next moment they are being rescued by Alexis brother in law.
Still I really did enjoy this book and would recommend it as a good read.
I stopped reading this book at 41%. A black girl took a key and went into someone's house, and that someone was not immediate family? Nope make that stupid stuff make sense. And the first thing she did when she got caught was lie. Didn't she stop seeing Joseph because he lied. I didn't even get half way through.
The two leads have great chemistry. The adventure they go on is nail biting. It must be said, this book is filthy. The sexual acts are raw and filthy. The world building is great. Did I mention it’s filthy? Glad to get that off my chest. I loved every minute of it.
I was back and forth with this story. I like the relationship but we didn’t t get to see it develop well enough. I was feeling booged down with the main scenario and the climax of it was anticlimactic. The ending was heading in the right direction but just ended. I’m sad about that. I would have loved to have gotten more. I am hoping for a continuation to their story.
An interesting read… the story kept my attention and I’ll like to read what happens next. The typos and misplaced or missing words were distracting but overall a good story.
Really liked this book, I read the arrangement series and even though we saw the characters from that series, I liked the different direction of this book. I cannot wait for Brea’s story!!!!!
Slow warm up between the characters. Alexis didn’t seem to connect with Joseph. Very little chemistry. I was very displeasedthid ended on a cliffhanger! I probably won’t finish because I’m not that interested in the couple.
Entertaining story. A slow build, but worth it. Mystery and action that suck you in and wondering what's to happen next. I hope book two is coming soon as this book ended on a cliffhanger. I am looking forward to the next installment. A good read.
I have never read this author before but since this story was so entertaining I will have to check out her work. There is a slow build with mystery and suspense. Overall I thought it was a good start… I didn’t know it would end with so many unanswered questions. Will Joseph and Alexis be together? Can Joseph protect Alexis?
Joseph is so cute he and Alexis made a cute couple. This was a good story with a good plot, I'm so glad it turned out the way it did, wow Lena was a terrible friend and Paul was just evil. I wondered what happened at the end on the beach were they going to be under attack...
So that was…something. Messy plot, odd characters, a couple of times when text abbreviations were used in in place of real words or phrases. A lot that didn’t add up really
