Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!! I find Enid Blyton’s writing so inspirational, this book is the perfect mix of intriguing and adventurous. What I like about Enid Blyton’s books is that everyone is different and you can never guess what will happen next, I think that this book encapsulates that to a tea. My favourite part was when they found the passage that led from the painting to the cave behind the waterfall! DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THAT CAVE!!!!! I would have loved to find something like that it would be so cool!!!!! Anyway I won’t give anymore spoilers but please read this book I think you will enjoy it so much, I sure did!

Reading 'The Valley of Adventure' by Enid Blyton was a very pleasant experience for me. I read young adult and even middle grade books fairly frequently. Most of the middle grade books I read are books or books from series that I fondly remember from my childhood. I have been thinking about the "Valley of Adventure" for years. I remember exactly where it was on the shelves in my school library and that it had a textured solid color hard cover. Enid Blyton wasn't a name that I was particularly familiar with and I wasn't sure this was exactly the book I was thinking of even though I knew 'my' book was about children who landed in a valley and were adventuring on their own. Once I began reading this book I was convinced it was the book I remembered. Now I remember other details (such as the cave of echoes). Not only did I enjoy the book because it took me back to a pleasant childhood reading experience, but the book was written really well and was engaging and exciting throughout its entirety. Never once did I feel like I was reading a children's book. Enid Blyton wrote over 700 books and Philip, Dinah, Lucy- Ann and Jack (who were in this book) appeared in a series of them. While I probably won't read more of her books, I would definitely recommend this book particularly to Middle School age children. Even though the book is almost 75 years old, it did not feel dated to me. The children were in a valley climbing trees and through caves and definitely didn't have time for electronics and other modern distractions. I give this book five stars. Buy it for your children!
These are fun, wholesome, big adventure stories where four resourceful kids fall in and out of mysterious tangles. The adults always come in at the end to make sure the bad guys are all taken care of and the kids get home safely for big mugs of tea. I’m reading this series aloud to my son and we both love them.
