Just a small town girl, living in a... dangerous world. Tyrannical psycho running the world? Check. Loyal and bloodthirsty followers? Check. Still, somehow, Arcantens most wanted criminal? Check.
I still might not know what's going on, but at least I have three soulbonds at my beck and call. That's how it works, right? Unfortunately, no, it's not.
While trying to work through these new relationships - thanks Whizz - I am still running for my life. Forced to flee to the City of Shadmere to beg the elves for assistance after humanity has turned their back on them. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it sure as hell wasn't this.
I still have all the questions, with no damn answers. I guess I'll just have to keep taking every hit life throws at me with a smile on my face, a penis joke on the tip of my tongue, and a few pranks hidden up my sleeve. All while trying to stay breathing.
If you can believe, this book is even heavier than the first one. It's more dealing with mental health than romance, so heads up for you going in. After the ending of Defied I thought it'd start out pretty happy, but no. I was very wrong. The book picks up two months after the end of book one, and Ave has pretty much stagnated. Her moods are all over the place and she's worn out and run down (for plenty of reasons). All the pieces are getting moved on the board for a final show down. I don't know how many books are in the works for this series, but there is a lot of butt kicking planned. I am also secretly hoping for more drunken shenanigans.
This book was amazing. It took me on an emotional roller-coaster and I can't wait for more. Of course the ending has left me devastated for more. I can't wait for book 3. Definitely should read this. I love all the humor and fun characters.
I could not put this down! Not only did it have me crying, my heart aching for Ave and what she'd been through, but it also had me crying tears of joy and laughter. This book is just as hilarious as the previous one and even more suspenseful! Ave's growth, as well as her friends and mates, is amazing. She struggles so hard, fights so hard for everything but never gives up, no matter how hard things get. She always manages to keep pushing. The ending is one you will never forget and one you will scream about for hours. I'm already pining for book 3 and I can guarantee that I will devour it just as I have the first 2 books in this series! Absolutely phenomenal!
I appreciated the first book were the FM was strong even when dealing with the loss of her only home and family. This book, on the other hand, was very hard to get through. Avonlia was whinny and crying a lot. She played the “why me” victim most of the book. She pretty much devolved until the very end where she faced the villain. I’m almost not sure if I want to read the next book.
This review is a little salty and also has spoilers.
While I had issues with book one, I enjoyed the story enough to keep going with the series. Right off the bat I was thoroughly disappointed. HUGE time jump from The cliffhanger in the last book only to find that the irreverent but strong FMC became a sniveling, poor me mess over having two more soulbonds, and never stopped to consider their feelings. Then she has her come to Jesus moment and realized that yeah she hurt them, resolves not to do that anymore and instead of having a talk, she clings to soulbond 1, flaunting their sexy times and her love for him.
Until of course other women are about and her jealousy makes her decide that she does want them all....for about 1 paragraph and then she's back to feeling guilty for wanting them too even though soulbond 1(Jed) has already told her he's fine with it and having already told her that his mom had multiple soulbonds.
Then out of nowhere she's finally having sex and claiming SB2, immediately before her unclaimed SB3 and lifelong best friend, SB1 and a 4th destined-but-not-bonded SB leave for months. I thought it was incredibly stupid for her not to close the claim with SB3 before he was sent off on super dangerous mission but I expected that the time apart would be used to cement the new claim with SB2 and instead we get another massive time jump of 4 fricking months and a vision that alludes that the FMC was destined to die.
I sincerely doubt that will happen as knowing it now would drastically lessen the impact later but that is where I tapped out. RH's in my opinion only work when they are a complete unit that comes before anything and everyone else and while everyone has their weaknesses and strengths, they help each other grow stronger.
This series is like being in a wonky carousel, with imbalances of both affection and growth. To be honest the guys seem a better unit WITHOUT her added to the mix than they do all together, as they talk things out amongst themselves. And no-one seems to give a crap about getting their shit together power wise despite the fact that there is a huge ass conflict going on with their soulmate stuck smack dab in the middle. In both books they all remark on the fact her sentient power is being weakened as well as it being unpredictable, just like it's obviously because they haven't all been claimed through sex, but again no communication while entire paragraphs are devoted to the FMC pointing out things that look like cocks.
I can deal with a quirky character, I can get behind humor to cut tension but in EVERY instance where FMC takes the lead as the super special prophesied chosen one she blusters and bullies her way through it with raw displays of power and no finesse or cleverness. Because of that, I think this story would have knocked it out of the park for me if Ave bad been the scrappy nobody who blunders her way into accidentally helping the real Queen\chosen one save the world, with the help of her destined mates she picked up along the way.
I just can't buy Ave in the role the author has written for her and if I can't believe that, there is really no point in me going any further in this book, let alone the series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I feel like Persephone was trying to rip my heart out with this one. So many heartbreaking emotions and soul shattering occurrences. But I have faith in the author and the overall happy ending.
Avonlia is broken multiple times in this book. But like the strong bad b she is, she picks herself up and only gets stronger. I loved watching her dust herself off and start to become the true “Chosen One”.
I enjoyed seeing in to the guys heads in this book as well. Seeing the distinct differences in each of them gave them all more life. I’m curious about the addition of Kian. While I like him, I’m also a little skeptical. I can’t wait to see more of his character arc.
The last several chapters were brutal but added so much to the story. I am both anxious for the next book and sad that the series will end. I am not ready!
Ave and her men return in the second installment of the Breaking Series, an absolutely epic sequel to Defied!
I love that we get so see really growth in Ave, as wel as the forming connections between herself and the men who would do anything for her. We also get to meet a new mystery gent, Kian, who is a truly compelling character.
I’m floored at the truly unique world Persephone has created, vibrant with a multitude of different species and characters. It is one of a kind world building, on a level you often don’t see in the Romance genre.
I absolutely cannot wait to see where Ave’s journey will lead in the next book!
This second book was a lot more emotional than the first. Ave is separated from all but one of her bonds for most of the book. She has a rough time but is able to figure out everything and come out stronger in the end. Still has laughs throughout the book. I love Wi!lie and Ave's friendship so much. There is so much to Kian that he cannot speak about and he has some much pain dealing with that. These characters kick ass and are some of my favorites. Can't wait to see how Ave and her bonds kick assign the nextbook.
Absolutely devoured this book and the first one, and oh man am I dying for the next. I love this author and how up to date she is with the slang and certain things just pull you in more. This series will have you laughing your ass off, crying like a baby , and as horny as a teenage boy!!!
Ever read a book where you keep rooting for a hero and then something tragic happens and you want to scream and hit things and then you need more because you need that guy to have way more happiness than all the others? If not you should read this book. Then you’ll know how to be invested and sad and hopeful all at the same time.
is there such a thing as an intense action rom-com?
Spice: 2/5 - I think it’ll build a lot in final book
Omg. This series is HILARIOUS. I love her inner thoughts, I was almost peeing myself reading this book. I love the characters, the plot, the way it’s flowing. Overall, amazing series so far!
This book is absolutely amazing. Ace has such a good sense of humour. Author bring out the story in such a marvelous way. Once you start you can put it down. I loved this series. Please bring part 3 soon
Wow! The quest for freedom from tyranny is on and Ave and her merry men are in a fight with impossible odds. This really is an incredible book and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
Reading this book, my heart was ripped out of my chest, stomped on and picked up. It hasn’t been put back together yet but I’m hoping that will happened in the next book. I loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one.
I LOVED this book! How could I not? I loved the dif POV’s, I loved how the fmc is a self proclaimed bada$$. Everything about this book was awesome. I only wish it was longer. Can’t wait for the next one to come out.
The second installment of The Breaking Series did not disappoint. Aves story continues on a breathtaking rollercoaster ride of emotions and action. Cannot wait for book 3...but I don't want it to end.
This second book in the series is so action packed. Ave and the guys barely got a break. I could barely put the book down. I loved the book. The ending was such a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read what happens next. Good writer
What a great second book to the series. I loved it! Persephone Steele does an awesome job of world building. I'm loving the fmc and her men. Can't wait to read book three 💜💙
Thoroughly recommend this author. All her series have strong characters & detailed plots. Genuinely cant put them down until I finish all the available books.
I LOVED this book!! From beginning to end, it gripped me and wouldn’t let go until I’d finished it. The plot is fantastic, the characters are so endearing, and I loved all the twists and turns. Definitely a must read!!
