Earth Changes: Seasons of Humanity
Seasons of Humanity is part of the Earth Changes trilogy exploring the links between terrestrial cycles, human nature, and the cosmos. The Sun is the principle energizer of cycles on Earth. Great storms on the Sun, measured by sunspot numbers and other means, send massive waves of energized particles throughout the solar system, impinging the Earth and altering the ionosphere, the electromagnetic curtain that surrounds the planet. Electromagnetism profoundly affects living organisms, including humans, and plays a role in stimulating major weather fronts. Cosmic radiation striking the upper atmosphere causes biological changes of all kinds - including alterations in human behavior. The climate is also driven by these solar forces which is why the weather connection is a primary focus of this book. Natural cycles like crop and animal abundances, industrial and technological production, human creativity, and the economy ebb and flow with great cosmic cycles. Electromagnetism and the climate act as go-betweens or transducers channeling cosmic forces to the human level. The weather thus plays a vital role in passing the forces of the universe into our very lives. Not only agriculture and farming, the weather affects human health and productivity, the location and density of major populations, industrial output, major epidemics, droughts, mass migrations, even human pessimism/optimism. It also has a bearing on human energy levels, resistance to disease, and birth and death rates. A handy reference lists the various physiological effects generated by dry and wet conditions, cold and hot, and humid ones. Another table lists the possible repercussions of strong electro-magnetic storms and passing cold, warm, and stationary fronts. Four world-wide climate cycles, each lasting about 25-years, help mold specific social, economic, political, and cultural events. Warm-wet periods, for instance, regularly correlate with economic prosperity while the warm-dry phases have produced more depressions, recessions, and economically stagnant periods. Great and compassionate world leaders thrive when the climate is right just as despots and poor leaders rise when conditions favor them. International wars are more prevalent during warm periods while civil wars flourish during cold periods. Social trends, changes in literature, music, art, and architecture all show a climate kinship. Longer climate cycles of 100-years, 500-years, and 1,000-years also dovetail with epic times in history. Evidence is given showing that these long climate cycles owe their rhythm to grand cosmic waves. The importance of sunspots and how the dynamic interactive cycles of Neptune and Pluto time solar maxima and minima are carefully but simply explained. Seasons of Humanity provides readers a new take on the celestial connection and how climate patterns generate great historical developments.
