He's dead set on stripping everything I am bare.
I'm nothing but his plaything and he's pulling my strings.

Claire Marta is a USA Today Bestselling Author who writes addictive, dark, hot stories. A native Brit, she lives in Italy with her daughter and husband. She loves drinking copious amounts of tea and goes walking when brainstorming one of her twisty book plots.
The Devil's Plaything is the second book in the Ceasefire series by Claire Marta. Just like the previous installment, this one is chock full of twists and turns around every corner. There's tons of action, violence, sex, and suspense! If you enjoyed The Devil You know, you're sure to love this!
Mavi lost her head last we saw her, and now, things are more complicated than ever before. One of the Devil's commanders is still trying to take over hell, and the Devil himself is toying with Mavi at every turn. This time the Devil and his commander want something new from Mavi that she isn't willing to give, and they relentlessly mess with her mind and her family to try to obtain it.
Through it all, the Devil still possesses Mavi's heart. No matter how hard she tries to deny him, she can't. He has her, body and soul. In spite of her feelings for him, Mavi intends to protect herself and those important to her no matter the cost. Will she be able to beat the devil at his own game, or is she destined to forever remain the Devil's Plaything?
Claire gave me whiplash with this series! Nothing is as it seems, and everyone has secrets that flip everything upside down. Revelations came at me left and right so fast it made my head spin, and I loved every minute of it! I have to admit that I fell out of love with the Devil as time went on, because I just couldn't forgive him for everything he did regardless of the reason behind it. Despite that, I still enjoyed the story. The writing was excellent, Mavi was badass, and the original plot and unexpected twists intrigued me and kept me reading the whole way through. If you're a fan of dark paranormal romance, this one is for you!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️STARS ARC BOOK REVIEW Release Date-19/7/18
The Only creature who has ever been able to bring the devil to his knees, my beautiful deadly Queen
This was such a delicious concluding instalment to a series that had previously captured my attention so completely with it's ingenious and fresh perspective on that old tug of war between good and evil and everything that lies in the grey of the in-between. And after where we previously left off with this I was practically salivating to jump headlong back into the action alongside Mavi, Lucifer and all the rest of the gang. Having no idea how this was going to continue after that massive cliffhanger of a finale in book one I was ever so curious to see how "The Devil's Plaything" was going to recover from the burnt ashes it had collapsed into previously. This is one book ive been wanting to hurry up and hit my kindle like so much and I have to tell you it was so worth the wait folks. So after a quick re-read of its predecessor, I was raring to go and almost instantly catapulted into a world of confusion where nothing is as it seems and the king of manipulations and lies that is Lucifer seems up to his old tricks; scheming and playing his cards totally to his own advantage. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt really I did, but it was just so hard when time after time he seemed to be playing a game that only he was aware of all the rules. No regard for Mavi or seemingly anyone else, stomping on her obvious affections without a care. And the more this progressed the deeper the hole he seemed to did himself into with Mavi I really didn't see how he was going to explain his way out of this one. And while Lucifer spun his manipulations around the whole saga the contrast in his portrayed intent and actual attention to Mavi was just so confusing, I didn't know what to think as he was Constantly blowing hot and cold throughout. And talking of heat the sexual antics between these two were seriously smokin in nature with a raw unapologetic carnality that I bloody adored. In fact, there was just so much here that I was loving as this was just such a fantastic engaging read. I think one of my favourite aspect of this series was the unrepentant nature of its characters. I adore it when we are given an unashamed anti-hero that stays totally true to there inner nature. A monster that is still kinda a monster to everyone but the one they adore and that's what we are treated to here; Lucifer is who he is and makes no excuses for his inert essence. And Mavi herself is more than a match for him her ultimate wickedness complimenting Lucifers corrupt core just so cruelly and with such great finesse. So this is set primarily in Hell away from Ceasefire which I actually prefered. We also get to experience Lucifer this time in his true form which was also a mega plus for me. There are definitely some surprises here that leapt out of left field and totally knocked my socks off. And there were times occasions that I really hated Lucifer with a bloody passion and wanted to knock him the hell out. This is one of those reads that once started can't be put down so great is its pull. I was transfixed to the bitter end.
They call him a monster. Weaver of lies. The great deceiver. Yet the devil has wept for me. Fought For me. Taken me in his dark Embrace
I cant recommend this book series enough my only criticism here is it had to end. So looking forward to experiencing much more of this fantastic world and seeing what else this talented author has planned for us next. I was provided with an ARC of "The Devil's Plaything (Ceasefire #2)" By the author of which I have reviewed voluntary. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
It’s rare that I read a book in the middle of another book but I had to drop everything to read the next installment in this series as soon as it hit my Kindle! Claire Marta totally blew my mind again! I loved this book and it’s so not even my genre! I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
"Holy Chit, our Puddin' is back" "Hormonal and armed" I think that sums it up 😉
If you have not read book one - STOP- go back and read it! Trust me 😈
In book one I mentioned that no one seemed trustworthy, it was quite possible that friends were the enemy and that our enemy was our friend (yeah I was there, the writing is that good) turns out I may have been right. I do not want to drop any hints that may cause spoilers - this is a read that will keep you edged from the first scene to the last and every taunt harrowing moment in between. Be prepared to battle your inner little minion, there are times when the need to peek at the ending is almost an absolute - but DON'T - I promise the wait is worth it.
The main characters all return along with some wonderful and even devious new ones - Plaything brings us a darker almost depraved plotline filled with bloody action and betrayal that will drag you down and keep you under. ➡Mavi returns - not telling you how, read the book - and things are even more twisted and convoluted as if that was even possible. When the book opens I was a bit confused as to what the devil was going on- hang in there it will all make sense in a couple of chapters. ➡Lucifer it seems has been searching for Mavi - he has moved heaven and hell to find his Flower and bring her home - or so she has been told - again really not sure who to believe here ➡Then we have dear old grandpa Gabrielle who claims he loves her and has her best interest at heart yet at times his actions speak just the opposite ➡ And let us not forget the one set of people I do trust her team - I adore this set of misfits so much 💕 If borderline dark paranormal filled with action, suspense and romance is what you are looking for - Cease your search! You will find it all and so much more in The Ceasefire series
What an epic sequel. I was already hooked from book 1 and book 2 just blew me away! With even more twists and turns that had me shouting at my kindle one minute then gasping omg sooooo many times. This book warps you into an amazing world that you just want to be a part of?! The scenes are hot as hell and i sometimes felt i needed to hose myself down! An easy 5* read. Just gutted it ended?!
This series is so addicting. When this book first starts, I thought, wait, did I buy the right book. Yes, yes I did.
This is not remotely a safe read, not even close. So many triggers, it’s like trigger happy. But do I want more...absof*ckinglutely. Book crack for sure. I would have given this more stars, but Lucifer is a huge pain in the ass, like you’ll want to throttle him kind of pain in the ass. That guy.....sheesh. He really pisses me off in this one, I wanted to reach through my kindle and bitch slap him...yes he has that charming effect on me 🤣. Love, love Mavi, she is such a badass and way to good for Lucifer.. Thankfully he really does know he got damn lucky she kept him around. Not gonna lie, I had my fingers crossed for the other outcome *shrugs*, but she puts up with all his nonsense. Claire Marta is such a fantastic writer and this series is just one crazy turn after another. Wild af. I can’t wait to read more books by her, I have to wait until my heart rate comes back down😂.
Well hello! If you like your stories action packed and your Angels fallen then this could be the read for you. Mavi returns in the second book of this series, and things are not what she, or I, expected. Mavi is still fearless and feisty, and takes no prisoners but now she has found herself 8 months pregnant, trapped with people she doesn't know or trust!
The story was fast paced, there is a lot of violence and blood lust, and a variety of demons to get to know, along with some familiar faces from book one. I was constantly on edge wondering who was on Mavi's side, but I never feared for her - she is tough as old boots and fights like the best of them!
I have mixed feelings with this book I liked it but hate it at the same time I like Mavi but, sometimes I don’t understand her. She forgives so to fast to the H. And the things he did to her were a little too much for me. Some things were unforgivable to me
I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT! I LOVE IT!! What an amazing sequel it was!! Mavi is the best!!! I love this series so much!! It's everything I wanted in a book! Claire Marta is freaking genius!!!
The beginning of this book almost made me think I was reading something else, it's not what I was expecting! It does make sense though just keep reading! It's just another one of Claire’s unexpected plot twists, but it fits, it fits so well! The Devil's Plaything draws you straight back into the Intricate paranormal world created by Claire. I had no idea where this book would take me and these characters. The characters have continued to grow and evolve, they showed just how much as they continue to face what Claire throws at them. Claire's writing style flows almost effortlessly, she has an incredible talent for writing paranormal with some seriously mind-blowing twists and turns. This book has things that I could never have anticipated happening! Her characters continue to get under my skin and I even found myself liking some of the bad guys; I mean who could resist Lucifer?? I have loved this book; well 2 books; so much. These characters are amazing, Claire is so talented as a writer! Even though this book is paranormal romance/erotica, I would highly recommend it to anyone, even if erotica isn't your thing, you might be surprised by this series. I'm still not sure I'm ready to say goodbye to the characters yet, Claire please write more Mavi and Lucifer.
I have been eagerly awaiting this conclusion since the second i finished swiping away at book 1. I was hooked on book 1 and this one was no different. Mavi and Lucifer's push and pull relationship escalted tenfold this time round. The devil drawing Mavi further into his world with every passing word. I adore these 2 characters and the way they collide and then grow. It is a true battle of the forces of good and evil.
I do kind of feel cheated a bit though. I really wanted to see Mavi focus her power, embrace her strength. Dont get me wrong, her strentgh and determination throughout this book are enough to blow you away and have you waving your bra in solidarity but i just wanted that magic.
It's still a wonderful conclusion to the story though and one i will definitely be recommending.
Book: The Devil’s Plaything (Ceasefire Book 2) Author: Claire Marta Rating: 4.5 stars Reviewer: Emmasromaticreviews17 on Facebook Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh wow, I am not even sure I am well enough to write this review because I’m pretty sure I’m suffering from whiplash! There is more plot twists, lies, deception and surprises in this book than you could possibly expect. It draws you in, keeps you on your toes and has you addicted until the very end. This book picks up eight months after the cliff hanger ending of the first book. So if you have not read the first book then this review will contain major spoilers and you will need to read book one first.
After being decapitated during the final battle scene by her brother Nate whilst defending Lucifer, Mavi awakens with no knowledge of who she is or what happened and there are some pretty big surprises in store for her. She is being held captive by some low level demons who are abusing and raping her as their prisoner. She starts to have dreams remembering who she really is and dreams that draw her to Lucifer. When she finally remembers she escapes but is faced with many new battles.
Mavi believed that when she killed Trukun in the battle that she had defeated all of the generals of hell and could finally get her soul back from the Devil but it turns out that the general Markaz is not dead like they previously thought. Mavi knows that she has to kill Markaz if she ever wants to be free from Lucifer. But as things progress her reasons for chasing Markaz becomes a lot more personal and her desire to get away from Lucifer grows weaker.
The chemistry between Mavi and Lucifer is off the charts and it really is a case of that there is a fine line between love and hate. While Mavi wants to hate Lucifer and struggles to trust his behaviour she is drawn and enticed by him on a sexual level. The sex is just as scorching hot in this book as it is in the first. He appeals to Mavi’s innermost dark side and she flourishes when united with him but she also knows that Lucifer threatens all that she is and all the people she cares about the most. Mavi is faced with the challenge that she needs to beat the Devil at his own game or she will forever remain the Devil’s Plaything. I should note that there is a scene where they have sex in a church confessional and I know that not all readers will enjoy this.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this book features dramatic revelations at every turn and with every revealed secret things are flipped upside down. In my first review I said that I was just as drawn to the Devil as Mavi was but in this book, the more the storyline progressed, I started to dislike the Devil and did not like his scheming or his blatant disregard for other people. But I think that is very much how the Devil should be portrayed, as it made me believe that this is how the Devil would naturally behave, after all he is never going to be a natural leading man. His behaviour was completely unrepentant and that made him the perfect anti-hero that, I believe, Claire Marta was trying to portray. But even so I felt like he was perfect for Mavi and I was willing them to find their twisted, dark version of happily ever after. But while my love for Lucifer was dwindling, luckily I had his gorgeous, dark and cocky right hand man Raziel to draw my attention. I loved him so much and I can’t wait to read his story in the next book.
But overall I want to say that I loved this book. It will grip you and pull you in. It will make you not want to stop reading to discover all the hidden secrets and give you whiplash when they are revealed. For the first time you will find yourself routing for the dark side to prevail and it will leave you wanting so much more. For me this book was fantastic and I would thoroughly recommend it.
Book 2 in this Ceasefire series, and boy I couldn't put this one down, talk about riveted!! Nothing is what it seems or what you expect in this one, twists and turn around every corner, shocks galore, full to the brim of violence, sex, action and suspense!! What a read!!
After the shock ending in book 1 we pick up the story to a very confused Mavi and it did take me a short while to get my head around it as it was just very unexpected! Mavi just can't escape from the Devil who wants her heart, he already owns her soul! He wants her to kill his Generals who have turned against him and he will stop at nothing to have her.
She finds herself in a strange place, without any memory and heavily pregnant. The Generals are playing with her and her family in an attempt to win against Lucifer and Mavi is caught in the middle. Even through everything that has happened Mavi is unable to deny Lucifer what he wants, their connection is that strong, but he continues to be the Devil and stomps all over Mavi and her feelings, doing things that seem to benefit himself only. Don't you just love a bad boy who stays true to his nature!! I really wanted to give him the benefit of doubt in the hope that he had some kind motive in there, but I have real difficulty in believing in him with everything he put Mavi through!
But Mavi is a perfect match for him, the darkness within her reveling in his, their passion is explosive, carnal and raw.
Shocks and surprises galore in this one that kept me on my toes throughout and absolutely riveted to the very end. Bloody, violent, passionate, dark, twisted.... I loved it, didn't want it to end! Highly recommended reading for any dark PNR fans.
WOW! what a sequel this was, this blew the first book out the water for me,there was more of everything that i love in a dark gripping paranormal read.Claire Marta you certainly got me hooked back into this Devils playground world again.
This draws you back into the world where nothing is as it seems, you don't know where or who the next monster is going to be,with so many twist and turns throughout this book be prepared for a rollocoaster of a ride where all number of demons and monsters lurk around every corner.
Mavi is back as feisty and badass as ever after a short spell where she is sorting her memories out with what happened at the end of the last book.Mavi is one of my favourite badass female characters where she dosen't take no shit from anyone, even from the devil himself lucifer, and that is no mean feast.
What can i say about Lucifer as one minuet i love him but the next i want to kill him for what he is putting Mavi through but he has a agenda to fullfil and Mavi is his porn in the game of deceit and lies. You never know from one minuet to the next what is going to happen and this is what kept me gripped as loved how it took me for the ride along with them never knowing how it was going to end.
This book was hot as hell with plenty of action and well, pure hot sex with Lucifer and Mavi phew!!that keeps your attention thoughout till the very end,and wow what a ending i loved it. If you love the paranormal with demons, shifters wolves and alot more this definiely has got to be on the top of your list to read.AWESOME.Five huge badass stars.
If you read book one, The Devil You Know, and I hope you did, then you know how totally bada$$ Mavi St. Clair is and that she even gives the devil himself a run for his money! She is an extremely strong and feisty heroine and I do love that about her. This book is not a typical romance book in any way. There are no flowers and roses, except for the pet name Lucifer calls Mavi - Flower. It's not sweet and it isn't one of those that you gush over because they are sooo in love or sooo perfect for each other. Lucifer and Mavi do have chemistry and a connection that cannot be denied, but for me, this story wasn't as much about them as it was about her and her journey. The romance did fall a tad short but that's just me and like I said, it wasn't a sweet romance book. I was a little lost in the beginning and it took me some time to get into the book. I went back and read the end of book one for a refresher and think maybe with a reminder of how it ended or a prologue of some sort to lead me into this one I probably wouldn't have felt quite as lost, however, once I got into the story and the meat of the plot there was no putting this book down! The secondary characters are extremely likable just as in book one and I would love to see them have their own story! The ending of this book made me extremely happy and I loved how Mavi and Lucifer both stayed true to their characters! If you love PNR, you cannot go wrong with Claire Marta!
After reading The Devil You Know I had no idea how the next book would go, however Claire Marta managed to completely throw me with this book…. Out of all the books I have read there has never been an author who has managed to throw me off guard with every single book, yet somehow Claire managed that with perfection. I found myself completely absorbed in the story and completely shocked by the turn of events. Claire has such amazing talent when it comes to writing and I seriously recommend readers to pick up her work as it will honestly shock you. I honestly can’t wait to read more of her work, I have a feeling it’s going to be as amazing as the work I have already read.
Mavi’s life has been completely turned over within the space of a few weeks, all the people that she thought she could trust she isn’t so sure on, but the strangest thing is that she has no memory of what she’s been through… She’s woken up and see’s she in hospital, the people who are around her she’s never met and the situation she’s in she’s clearly got no idea of what’s happening. What she does know is that she will have to be careful but is determined to find a way out and figure out who she is.
So much happened. I don’t think she got a second to stop throughout the whole book. And he was so exhausting. It finally seems like he’s softening and going to be honest and it turns out he was lying. Again. And again. And again. Jeez. And the amount of twists and secrets was just annoying. I stopped believing anyone else apart from her and her friends.
I wish what I thought happened happened, because that would have made me love it way more. And the rushed explanations at the end just made me roll my eyes. He wasn’t even really sorry. And she got raped at least in 2 different situations because of his actions and he never gave a damn. Seeing them have sex (which let’s be honest that’s all they’d done throughout the books anyway) and be a teeny lovey dovey in the epilogue didnt make up for any of it. Why couldn’t he have been honest, way earlier so the could begin ruling together and we’d seen their strength together? Because after the amount of times he betrayed her, I don’t think she needed him or that he deserved her. Anyway regardless, I couldn’t stop reading and the world it’s set in was interesting. And I liked that she wasn’t helpless and did whatever she wanted to do.
***This is a duet and Book 1 must be read before this one
If you like Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series, then Claire Marta's Ceasefire Duet is for you!
As I said in book one, Fans of Jennifer Estep will love this duet. Mavi is a strong, badass, paranormal assassin trying to balance good vs. evil both in reality and within herself. Little does she know, but she has the blood of both good and evil battling it out in her soul and which one that will come out on top is still up in the air. Lucifer is exactly what we perceive when we think of the devil. He is selfish and only thinks about himself and what he wants above all others. He will stab you in the back right when you think he is the only one who cares. He will forsake you and leave you drowning in the pits of despair.
OR... maybe not?
Claire Marta brings us a majorly HOT Lucifer who may have a caring bone in his body. Mavi may have to move hell and hell may have to freeze over, but she will prevail. The twists and turns are aplenty, and you won't find yourself becoming bored while reading this book.

The Devil You Know (Ceasefire 1) and The Devil's Plaything (Ceasefire 2) by Author Claire Marta
### 5 Devilish Stars ###
Until British Book Bash I hadn't heard of this author .... where have you been hiding ?
I love this series so much, an easy 5 stars. This story has everything I need: packed to the brim full of paranormal, action, dark, blood, gore, drama mixed in with some seriously juicy sexual chemistry !
Mavi is the perfect heroine, she's feisty and totally badass. I connected with her character instantly and enjoyed her journey finding herself throughout her adventures.
This series is so addictive, I was immediately captivated and transported into Mavi's world. I had to read these books back to back, I couldn't wait to get started on the second one. Now I have no idea where book one finished and book 2 started - hence my reason for a combined review.
4 Stars Review by Amy W. Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog
Angels and demons and assassins, oh my! If you enjoy paranormal romances with a bit of darkness to them, then you need to pick up The Devil's Plaything by Claire Marta. This is book two and book one, The Devil You Know must be read first, but trust me that's not a hardship.
I really want to gush about all the twists and turns, and who is on whose side in the grand scheme of things, but that would be super spoilly of me and I'm not like that. Let's just leave it at no one has a clue what is what, including Mavi herself.
The Ceasefire series is the first of Ms. Marta's books I've read, and they came highly recommended by friends. I cannot wait to explore what I've been missing and what's yet to come.
An unexpected beginning, soon lures the reader into an incredible dark paranormal romance, that has so many elements, twists and turns it will entice you to the very end.
Every turn in “The Devil’s Plaything” was not expected or as I thought it would play out, leaving me either shocked or in complete “Awe” of Marta’s abilities to take the story line that much further. Mavi is a strong female character, and although she has to sift through the bullsh##, of lies and deceit Lucifer puts her through, she still manages to hold her own, and give as good as she gets.
Mavi may be Lucifers plaything, but how will this end??
The Devil’s Plaything is action packed, intense and will take you on an amazing ride, whether you’re a paranormal fan or not, this book will sink it’s teeth in and not let go to the very end. The raw, hot as HELL sexual moments between Mavi and Lucifer don’t hurt either!!
Breathtaking, incredible, astounding & even at times magnificent , this last book in the Ceasefire series is all of those & more. Every time i thought i had a grip on this story & knew who was the good/bad guys Claire Marta threw a spanner in the works & made me re-think everything , i went from jaw dropping shock at the first few chapters to almost collapsing from holding my breath in the last few just waiting to see what was round the corner next for Mavi , as an avid paranormal reader this book ticks all the boxes & even some boxes i didn't know i wanted ticking. This book is a fast paced ride that you won't want to put down & i'm so glad we are getting Raziel's story because these are characters you just don't want to say goodbye to.
The beginning of the Devil's Plaything actually threw me for a loop for the first few pages as it was such a different opening to what I expected considering the way the first book ended. Several surprises await from the start and the book unfolds with the same twisty, emotional skill as the first Ceasefire book. Plenty of sexy action, some dark scenes that made the creepy side of my brain giggle with pleasure, and although we spend little time in Ceasefire itself, we still have the luscious Lucifer, kick-ass Mavi and our favourite cast of supporting characters to carry us on a fast-paced and thrilling dark paranormal romance adventure. Another hit for this author, and deservedly so.
I loved this book. It was so twisted and convoluted. Talk about plots within plots within more plots. Lucifer is definitely the master at that. I was waiting anxiously for this book, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. I love Mavi. Talk about your bad ass heroine, she has it in spades. What she goes through is sad and horrible and not for the faint of heart. But when you have a kick ass mentality like hers, along with the skills and moxie to use it, nothing can keep her down for long. I had no idea how it was going to all end up, but I loved the ending. Great job Claire. Looking forward to the next book.
This second entry into the series was seriously twisted and so sexy. I don't read a lot of very dark fantasy but this story just pulled me in and dragged me along for a roller coaster ride of ups, downs, twists, and turns. As you read, you think you've got it all figured out, but then something happens and you're left guessing again. Mavi is still borderline psychotic in all the best ways and Lucifer is, well, Lucifer. I was a little disappointed not to see much of Gabriel in this second book, but considering the way the story played out, it's understandable. I would love to get a standalone set in this world with Gabriel and am so excited to get one for Raziel.
Love, love, love!! What a great read and interesting story. The ending of the last book ended on such a heavy cliffhanger that I could not wait to get my hands on this book. The author did a great job in the opening chapters that I could not put this book down.
New characters are introduced, the devil confuses us because of course he is the devil. Poor Mavi is so pissed and you can’t blame her, nothing is revealed until the end. I could not have predicted that ending. Every time I read My Flower my heart bursts!!! I love her nickname, it’s sweet, sinister and hot!! I will be looking at other books from this author, just loved these characters 😈😈
