Scholar and entrepreneur Katerina Thomas PhD offers her insights on why you need to invest in your well-being, emotional resilience and creativity to be able to survive and thrive in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).
In Generation The Rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur, she uses insights garnered from nearly 15 years of professional work as a tertiary educator and her experience as a businesswoman to argue for the importance of creativity, personal resiliency and entrepreneurship skills as a path to staying relevant in the age of intelligent algorithmic systems.
We are moving to a more digitised, AI-driven world, and keeping up with the pace of change will put additional pressures on our mental health. What’s clear is that there will be winners but most likely many more losers – not just among low- and middle-skilled workers but also among high-skilled professions.
Companies will use algorithmic intelligent machines to search for emotionally resilient and creative ‘superstars’. However, there is no guarantee that newly created jobs will remain unaffected as AI technology gains momentum. Now, Thomas argues, there is still time to build emotional resilience so you can prepare yourself for the unemployment tsunami.

This is an eye opening look at the coming societal change that is even now being brought on by advances in AI. It’s not a particularly encouraging look. The first third of the book has more technical detail and pointed out several platforms I was unaware of. The last two-thirds read like more of an inspiration talk, or warning of how to deal with the coming change. Technology has caused the loss of many specific jobs, but so far seems to create more jobs than it removes. People have to learn new skills and be versatile and resilient in order to stay in the workforce. Thomas doesn’t come right out and say it, but I certainly felt she is implying that this trend may not continue through this next workforce revolution. With AI now encroaching into very skilled jobs, medical, legal, and other jobs previously thought immune to automation, we may not all make it. Very likely there will be net losses in jobs for the next couple of decades. The author gives advice on how to stay on top in the upcoming competition for jobs. She doesn’t belabor the point, but she does hint that all bets are likely off once we hit the singularity. (The point where machine intelligence matches human.) This is also referred to as Artificial General Intelligence or AGI. Knowledgeable people in the field predict this will possibly occur before or around 2045. This is a short, but instructive, read that I’d recommend to anybody who plans to still be working in the next fifteen to twenty years.
The foreword does the author no favors. The writer of the foreword talked more about him/herself than the book I was about to read. And I recommend reading the book -- just skip the foreword.
I suspect that many people who are over 50 (40?) might be worried about losing their jobs to a machine or some form of artificial intelligence (AI). This book was reassuring up to a point. Thomas gave insight into what types of jobs and people will survive in an AI world. She even reminds us that we need to get back to nature to recharge our brains and our beings.
It is where she turns to suggesting that people become entrepreneurs that she loses momentum. This is the least developed portion of the book. I'm glad that my years as an entrepreneur were before I read the book. After suggesting that people become entrepreneurs, she paints a dismal picture with her statistics on mental health problems among entrepreneurs:
"A study published in the journal Small Business Economics in 2019 offered insights into the co-occurrence of psychiatric conditions among entrepreneurs. The study examined 242 entrepreneurs and found that 72% had mental health problems. The entrepreneurs were most likely to have depression (30% of the participants) followed by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (29%), substance use (12%) and bipolar disorder (11%). About one third of the entrepreneurs reported having two or more mental health conditions, and almost one fifth reported having three or more. Nearly half reported having a lifetime history of a mental health condition."
Overall, I recommend this book to people who wonder where we are going and to people who have young people in their lives who will be in the global workforce soon.
I have read many books about leadership and management, and I have found most of them very interesting. However, this one, “Generation AI. The rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur”, written by Katerina Thomas PHD, distinguishes itself in its approach. The majority of the books about management are addressed to people who are already leaders in their organizations and are guides on how to improve their management skill. This work, instead, accompanies the worker in an era dominated by technology and artificial intelligence. It is an invaluable tool for those who want to become leaders and want to excel at that position in a highly digitised world. With a very clear and easy to follow style, the writer explains how to become resilient entrepreneurs. She provides, from her personal experience and a thorough investigation, sensible advice and guidance on different aspects, not only the ones directly related to the work realm, but also the ones that have to do with character and personality. A great read, I highly recommend it.
Katherina Thomas wrote “Generation AI” in order to spread the world about the current world situation: the years of automation in which people are still being replaced by machines.
Artificial intelligence is real. People are being replaced by machines so that companies are able to produce more in less time.
What is worse, the pandemic is leaving many without jobs and making everyone stay at home. In this context, machines seem the perfect workers that can make companies continue producing without getting sick (and without wages - of course!).
Generation AI is a clever work that might help more than one to readjust to today’s world. It provides useful information about the jobs of the future, so that young minds can invest time in studying and preparing for jobs that will need them.
I recommend this book because I believe it can give valuable information for job seekers.
The title of this book made me believe I was going to be reading a combination of artificial intelligence and business. And it is, but it is not. The author goes into detail about why she wrote this book, and a reason was that she was always being asked if robots were taking over jobs. It made sense that people would worry about that seeing as how a lot of businesses are automating their companies. Self-check outs are a good example of that. One does not really need a cashier to make a purchase. Manufacturing companies have plenty of robots doing the work that people used to do. I can see why the concern came about. I liked how Thomas explains the importance of knowing about AI and why we should care as well as how to stay relevant to the changing times. Overall, a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone who wants some guidance in the world of AI.
On the one hand, I would recommend this book to all kinds of entrepreneurs. On the other hand, I would recommend it to all my friends; because they are young adults who are building their future and there is an important foundation and principles for a better approach to that desired future. I must admit that it is hard to believe that in a few pages a whole mental paradigm can change, but this book does it wonderfully. There are funny cartoons to a better explanation of some topics and the narrative goes straight to the point along the plot.
The author, Katerina Thomas, explains this “rise” from her own experience, because she is also an entrepreneur. In this book, she shares the way to start, survive and grow in this world which is permanent changing, emphasizing emotional resilience and creativity.
This book is so excellent, so empowering, so practical and so useful that I couldn't put it down. I am reading it for the second time and I thought it will be a short process but I kept getting wonderfully swept away into practicing all the amazing processes. With each process, I gained fresh insight and inspiration and felt new understandings clicking into place. This book contains a lot of inspiration and perspectives, some that I need reminders of and others that are completely new to me. I’m so glad I obtained this because I love the reflective journey it led me through. Reading it every morning is the best way to start off the day and it reminds me over and over how the artificial intelligence is affecting my life. This is definitely a must read! Thank you, Katerina, for sharing your wisdom.
Generation AI: The Rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur was written by Kateeina Thomas, who is an entrepreneur, writer and scholar in the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship, and entrepreneurial resilience. In this book, she explains what we know as the technological age, how its long process was and why it affects us. She suggests many ways to keep us on the peak in this age, so we won't be supplanted by robots or machines. Therefore, I feel that change and entrepreneurial resilience are the best paths for all of us who will continue working for many years. The book didn't show a fantastic future but it was not terrifying either. In the book, I found skills and possibilities of change and progress, which are and will be very useful in my personal and professional life.
Generation AI: The Rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur by Katerina Thomas is a rather sobering look at how AI is going to affect the workforce and business. Well-written and full of good information, Thomas opens the door to new technology and the impact it is already having and will have in the future. The first part of the book focuses on the technical aspects while the latter part of the book focuses on the impending changes that will affect all of society. If you can stay ahead of the changes, all the better. This book will certainly boost your knowledge of a complicated topic. The competition for jobs will never be as fierce as it is now and will be in the future. Highly recommend it for an eye-opening read.
I think we all agree that we are in the age of Artificial Intelligence, but I believe we don’t always know exactly what it means or what it consists of. After 15 years of professional work as a tertiary educator and her experience as a businesswoman, author Katerina Thomas has been able to express her insights into this new world. These pages shed light into how to face AI challenges and how to open up our minds in order to be more creative. I consider this book a booster since it enhances some of our already existing knowledge while it helps us add enlightening new concepts. At the same time, the narrative can be revealing for a lot of people. Generation: AI is definitely a masterpiece and it is a great addition to my kindle!
This book covers the rise of Artificial Intelligence and its influence in recent years over various industries, even ones that we do not immediately think of (such as Automotive). With a look into the future and a possible “unemployment Tsunami”, the author gives us ideas about what we can do to get both ourselves and our families through a possible uncertain time ahead. I liked the possibilities the author gives us. Obviously, nothing is certain, however, for those astute enough to read between the lines it is easy to see what needs to be done, esp. in terms of retraining and reskilling ourselves as well as accepting that AI is here to stay in various forms. I liked the book, it gave some new perspectives, furthering my knowledge I got in some college courses previously.
Author Katerina Thomas flawlessly weaves her professional work as a tertiary educator and her wide expertise as an entrepreneur, to give birth to “Generation AI: The Rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur”, a book that delves with the importance of creativity, personal resiliency and entrepreneurship skills in an AI-driven world.
From my point of view, this book offers thought-provoking information and intelligent advice to be prepared for the way ahead, to adapt ourselves and have a strategy for the uncertainty of the future managed by artificial intelligence.
All in all, this book is about understanding the importance of resilience, and I think anyone can benefit from this wise and enlightening reading.
How to remain updated and relevant in this constant changing world is a pressing issue. AI is becoming more complex and sophisticated and companies are only interested in the ones that are able to catch up with these constant changes. Katerina Thomas understands this problem and has created an interesting and worth reading book where she provides insight on this matter and suggests possible strategies to become better professionals. She has vast working experience and related qualifications that have helped her to write this must-read book. She is clear and precise and what I like the most is that she always includes statistics and anecdotes, which make this book easier to follow and to understand.
Wow, just wow! Generation AI: The Rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur is excellent in so many levels. This is a book that has definitely taught me how to be successful in a rapidly changing world. Katerina Thomas thinks that we must prepare for the big amount of unemployment that artificial intelligence (AI) is going to generate, by building emotional resilience and mental strength. I couldn’t agree more with this author and I think that what makes her opinion so relevant is that she speaks from her own experience as a businesswoman. I recommend this book not only for people who want to keep their jobs but also for those who want to know more about how AI is rapidly changing the work market!
This unique look at the changes that are being made by the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence is a vast difference from what I was previously aware of. The author examines the insights she has from her experience and shows how important it is to stay relevant with all the changes that came along with the introduction of AI. As technology is moving forward at a much faster pace than prior, learning the best ways to thrive is so important and beneficial to creativity and uniqueness. I think this is a beneficial read for everyone, as things are changing daily and it's best to know how to keep up without getting left behind in a world that is far more advanced than most of us are aware of.
This is a fantastic book. The author briefly introduces the history of technology –and what we’ve come to know as the digitalized era. What’s AI? And why should you and I care? Because, although it sounds like the movies, a robot may replace you at your job.
With a riveting amount of examples and research, fun cartoons, and a professional tone, the author puts a mirror in front of us as a society. Going against the current seems unwise and futile. The future appears gloomy for us humans unless we prepare. Unless we make ourselves valuable and irreplaceable. And the key to that is resilience. Brilliantly written.
The advancement of technology has undoubtedly been a phenomenon that has made people's lives easier and has helped to create wealth and well-being in the world. But at this point, in my opinion, the influence of technology may begin to be a serious problem for an important part of the world's population: higher unemployment rate, a more unequal world and robots instead of man as protagonists of the production process. In “Generation AI: The Rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur”, author Katerina Thomas PhD explores those problems and provides us with a concise but comprehensive research-based outline of the challenges we are facing. This is an interesting book which I highly recommend.
“Generation AI” by Katerina Thomas is a book out of the ordinary because in this piece of writing the author writes and prioritizes mental health, resilience and creativity. She explains that in a world full of technology, we must not stop taking into account the person.
Something I really liked about this book is the well-developed ideas and the easy writing style, because with all these elements she could easily catch my attention from beginning to end and that is not an easy task. In my opinion, this book should be read by everyone because we are forgetting that we work with people and how important it is to encourage them.
“Generation AI: The Rise of the Resilient Entrepreneur,” by Katerina Thomas is a very well done book and is an excellent one for all readers who have any sort of fascination or interest in the incredible and vast world of Artificial Intelligence. As a huge fan of Elon Musk and all of his technological contributions to society, this book really helped me to gain an expansive new array of knowledge that really aimed to set me up with a better sense of understanding in AI and what it means for our future.
It is no hidden fact that we live in the time and age that AI is pretty much taking over most of our living arrangements. This notion has affected our wellbeing, self-confidence, resilience, and creativity. The author attempts to assist us in learning how to be strong enough to overcome the troubles by dealing with mental health and raising intelligence towards this digitalized world. I found the book to be very educational. It is a novel approach and I look forward to reading more from this author. I recommend this book to self-help readers. It isn’t a long book but it is useful.
This book is incredibly well thought out and easy to follow, which made it a very rewarding read for me. The author has organized this book in such a way that it is simple to read and easy to go back and reference the things that you want to look into further. Chapters (and the book as a whole) are short, so you can easily put the book down and pick it back up without having to go over what you've already read. I'd definitely recommend it to those feeling uneasy about the future.
Katerina Thomas delivers a strong set of ideas in Generation AI: The Rise of The Resilient Entrepreneur. I’m always interested in reading about the topic as most people seem scared about the Rise of the Machines or something similar, but the author writes a well-balanced book presenting AI as inevitable, but, at the same time, delivering interesting insights on how to become valuable, and, therefore, irreplaceable, in the job market. Some information is not new, as I’ve read it several times in other books, but the author has a compelling way of presenting her ideas and this was a very interesting read.
