Since Bridget Mitchell was two, it was just her and her father. As her father nears the end of his life, she has no idea what she will do after his death. All that she knows for certain is that she cannot live in the house she’s always been in.
When Elizabeth Tandy comes into the post office where Bridget works, she tells her to come see her because she has a letter she believes was written just for Bridget—a letter to become a mail-order bride.
Felix Potter is obsessed with getting married. He sends off for a mail-order bride, fully expecting the woman to be ugly as a toad when she arrives. Instead, the woman who comes all the way across the country to marry him is quite beautiful. Both of them are full of worries that the other person won’t find them worthy of staying beside. When tragedy strikes, they have to decide whether they care for one another enough to keep going, or if they should just give up and go their separate ways.
Can you fall in love in a few short weeks? Sure. Bridget goes West after her father dies and marries Felix. After a month she writes Elizabeth, her matchmaker back home, to report how much she loves Felix.
I'm not sure I knew how scary it was to nurse a sick husband without modern medicine, even aspirin for a fever. Cold compresses, body heat and warm fluids. That's about it. No wonder the death rate was so high! But Bridget nurses Felix back from the brink of death, a very high fever and a cough after working his cattle in a cold rain. Such are the experiences that can bring a couple closer, at least back then.
Kristen Osbourne is the best at writing sweet, clean romances. I've be reading her for years and recommend almost every one of her books. This is no exception.
Perfect story in that we have a Bride of Beckett sent to the Cauldron Valley to meet Felix her groom and although he's not a Cauldron or a Calendar, he is funny, patient, hungry and endearing!
Yet another amazing Brides of Beckham book. I’ve read and enjoyed all of them! They are filled with love and laughter many times after sadness or difficulty. I encourage you to read these books. Each is a standalone with a HEA! Strong women and good men!
Felix- wanted a wife so he sent for one and was overly excited. Bridget- father recently died she needed to do something for her future. I enjoyed reading this entertaining story that is well written with magnificent characters. Their story has a sweet and loving HEA.
This story was sad because of the death of a loved one, but the rest of the story made up for it. I thought I would not enjoy this story but I loved it. I look forward to reading more stories in this series.
Such a great story. A pair of lonely people who marry and need to learn to live with each other. Ms. Osbourne always writes stories that are a joy to read.
