Magia

Rate this book
Magia is an apocryphon or ‘secret book’ delivered by Alan Chapman to a small group of students on retreat in Pelion, Greece, in May 2019. The book is the rebirth of a tradition most famously known as Gnosticism at the beginning of the Christian era, and more recently as Magick as this period came to an end. The book is made up of twelve teachings that describe the mysteries, the true earth, our relationship with the ancestors and our place in creation, along with detailed instructions in Magia practice and an account of how the book came to be.

One of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read.

This is a book I’ve bought several times. I can’t be without a copy and yet I keep giving them away when the occasion is right. Great conversation starter too.

Them “what’s Magia?”
Me “Magia is the old word for what today we call Magic.”
Them “Oh… Is Magic real?”
Me “Of course not..”
Both of us - Shared laughter.

There is so much I like about this book. I love Chapman’s writing, and have read some of his other books (including Advanced Magic for Beginners—it changed my life!), but something about it felt off. Almost like a misremembered dream, or garbled message… the structure felt right, but the specific words and messages never quite hit home for me. I want to live this book so much!
