Maven of Mayhem #3

The Scars We Bare

Rate this book
Killer. Traitor. Queen.

I never thought learning about my parents would bring more questions than answers. I am a product of both my genetics and my upbringing, no matter how much my mind rages against recent revelations.

But now, it’s time to embrace the darkness that lives in my veins. The creature that prowls within. To end this once and for all, I’ll have to become someone I’ve spent my life loathing.

Lucas, Han, Noah, and Jacob are working to undermine Annex Security from inside with the help of a few unlikely allies while I take the reins and set my sights on a target closer to home.

The board is set, the pawns sacrificed, and when all is said and done, the Queen’s Gambit is poised to wipe the whole damn board. The only question is, can we all make it out? Can we survive without succumbing to the monsters we hide within?

The Scars We Bare is the third and final book in the Maven of Mayhem Series. It is highly recommended to read the other two books in sequential order to follow the storyline. This is a full-length, why choose novel; meaning our leading lady does not need to choose between love interests to find her happily ever after and includes MM. This book contains steamy scenes and violence. Please read the content warnings because your mental health comes first.

The Scars We Bare is the third and final installment of the Maven of Mayhem series. Now the first two had potential to be a lot better than they were. So, it's weird to get to the last book and just be bored with everything. We had this big bad evil villain throughout this series and then what happens to him just felt anticlimactic. Not to be dramatic or anything but I was definitely expecting something big to go down.

In many ways I feel cheated. It also felt like this book was taking forever to get through. At this point, I'm not even sure why we even needed a third book. Especially since nothing really happened unless you wanted to see the happily ever after? Which could have been an epilogue in any of the other previous books if I'm being honest.

Maybe it's just me feeling this way. In the end, I could have done without this book because it did nothing for me or this series.

Endings are hard. So very hard, both for the author and the reader. The author has to wrap up all the loose threads, and the reader has such high expectations. THIS 👏BOOK👏DOES👏NOT👏DISAPPOINT!👏

Seriously if all series ended like this one, I would be the happiest of campers. The good news though is that there will be more spin-offs! I'm just not ready to say goodbye to this world and the wonderful characters that Mila has created. I want more!!

We pick up from the not-so-bad cliffhanger of book 2 with big shakeups in the crime world with the Las Vegas crew being taken out. You just need to read to find out how much this impacts everyone. I don't want to give away too too much here, but it's sooo good. Mila is a masterful storyteller and wraps up all the open storylines while seeding more for the future books.

The FMC!
Rogue is the best. One of my top 5 female leads. She's so with things but also has wonderful flaws that have been woven in masterfully. She's grown so much from the first book till now.

The Guys!
I don't want to say goodbye 😭 The guys have also come so far from the beginning of the series. I can't choose a fave anymore as I want them all.

The Smut!
There is so much smut mixed in with the amazing plot that you will not want to put this down: group scenes, solo scenes, toys and more. Seriously hydrate while reading this one! 🔥🔥🔥

Having now completed this series I must admit it was a bust for me. With such amazing covers, titles and plot lines this held so much promise but it all fell flat for me. There is little to no action and even opportunities such as this book during a party situations are so casually handled it came off boring and not really enjoyable. I really dragged reading this one mostly because it just got drier and drier as the story went on. I assumed the final book would be filled by tons of action, backstabbing and retribution but alas that's not what I got. Throughout the series I've found things like plans just always worked out with no issue, far too easy for my skeptic mind to accept. Rogue made alliances and never once was anyone one step ahead, it felt so unreal. I'm really bummed by how this series resonated with me, I really tried to give it my best effort but I think for me it was a good start but the end result is only so-so. My favorite thing about this book was a Hedgehog named Sir Lancelot :)

I can’t believe this is the last book of the series. I’m going to miss Rogue and her guys so much. They have wormed their way into my heart and part of me is sad their story is over. Still have a hard time believe Mila is a new author. She nailed this book and series in general.

The book picks up where the last one ended. Right from the start, we are thrown back into this criminal underworld. There are a ton of players behind the scenes and a lot left to uncover. Right away we have a chaos grenade. Being the final book Mila didn’t hold back. The action didn’t stop and I’m not just talking about the main plot. Tons of steamy scenes that made me look over the shoulder to make sure I was alone.

Rogue, Lucas, Noah, Han, and Jacob are put through a lot of trials and tests throughout the series. I loved how much Rogue has grown through the books. She went through so much but her men are able to make her feel something she never has before. I couldn’t choose a favorite when I first started this series and I am still unable to. That’s how well Mila wrote these men. You can’t help but love them all. I am so glad we will be getting some of the side character’s stories. There is so much we still have to learn about this world and I’m not ready to say goodbye yet.

This book… just *chef’s kiss* It was everything I needed for the conclusion of the trilogy. This trilogy was everything I needed. I still can’t believe this was Mila’s debut.

Rogue and her men are some of my favourite characters. The evolution of each of them individually and within their relationship is so well done and I loved every part of it. Rogue is strong, sassy, loyal and a complete badbutt (you know what I mean) and she loves with all she has. The men are well rounded, each bringing something so them to the relationship. I feel like I had inside jokes with them because it really does feel like you get to know these characters on a deeper level. Mila just brought these characters to life and I am so thankful that there will be some spin-offs.

Like the previous books in the series, this one had action, twists and turns, steam, plenty of laughs and, finally, the happily ever after. My heart was so full at the end, I think I silly smiled the whole time I read it.

I know this is a lot of gushing but I adored this trilogy. A must read for sure.

The absolute PERFECT ending to an incredible series. I loved how everything was wrapped up and justice served for certain characters too. Rogue is so strong and self-assured with her guys complimenting her perfectly, making them an unstoppable force as they aim to take down the Gambit and envisage a future of peace for themselves.

I am still madly in love with Claudette and will be holding interviews for one of my own 🤣 She's just hilarious! And the addition of Sir Lancelot was everything I didn't know I needed.

Well done Mila on a fantastic series that had us gripped right the way throughout.

Amazing conclusion to the series

Oh my it's heartbreaking to say goodbye to this series, I don't thinking I've ever fell so hard for a bunch of guys and an FMC so fast. Yes I am sure we will see them again as there are books planned in this world but until then I will miss them.

This book wrapped up all the loose ends in the series but left some characters stories to be told in the future. I have to say none of it went the way I expected. Mila made a particular bold choice with one aspect of the story which gave me conflicting emotions as I read it, made me wonder about black, white and grey areas...you'll know the part when you read it.

There was plenty of steam in this one, lots of humour and lots of love and not just me for Romano, he's mine I licked him! Some great action and overall wonderful storytelling and loveable characters.

The series is now complete so if you've been waiting ...read it now.

Holy Smokes, this finale was everything I didn’t know I needed and so much more! The twist and turns this book took, had me on the edge of my seat, from the first chapter until the final words.

I fell in love with Rouge, Lucas, Han, Jacob, and my moody Noah (Cap) in The Secrets We Keep. The final scenes epilogue had me ugly crying 😭 but it wasn’t the only scene. Mila did the characters justice, and I loved the way the story came to an end. In saying that, expect to be put through the ringer before you you get to the end!

Chapter 7 & Chapter 12 totally help with any angst you must got through, 🌊 that’s all I’m saying on that 😉

I adore Claudette and her brand of crazy. Romano and Slade, Fabio and G, even Elise, get special props, as heros in this book. I could keep going with my love for this book, but I don’t want to give any spoilers, if you haven’t started the series, what are you doing with your life?

WOOOWWWW to the millionth degree!!!

I just don’t even know where to start with how utterly magnificent this book was!! My mind is STILL racing with everything that happened!! Let’s see, there’s a rescue that takes place, MAJOR medical issues, a “gun” battle, TONS of steaminess…..like MASSIVE amounts!!...some torture, betrayal (or maybe not??), a sprinkle of “shade(y)ness”, and Sir Lancelot (you’ll just have to read the book lol).

This final book in the series was absolutely brilliant and perfectly executed in every way possible! My soul smiled, my heart was ripped apart, I shed a few tears, I laughed uncontrollably, I lost count of the cold showers and ice baths needed, I had a panic attack, BUUTTT….by the end, I was happier than a bear in a pool full of honey! GO. GET. THIS. BOOK. NNOOWWW!!!

Lots of Heat

I’d probably give this book 4.5 ⭐️ if I could.

This is the third book in a trilogy, therefore the previous two books are required reading to understand this one. This story is completed by this book but there is a spin-off series set in the same world with some of the supporting characters taking centre stage and the main characters making guest appearances.

This book resolves all the outstanding problems for Rogue and her men, but they have to take lots of risks to do so. We also find out why King was the way he was, even if it doesn’t excuse him.

In order to finally be free of The Gambit, Rogue must draw on all her allies to get it done, some of them from unlikely places. I felt like all these allies were being set up for future books because of their interactions with other characters, who weren’t the main ones. It was enough to make me want to hear about their stories, and the author stated that she plan to write more books in the same universe, so I’m hoping that the first spin-off series is not the last.

As with the other books in this trilogy there is an awful lot of very graphic violence and very great deal of hot action between Rogue and her men, but there is also very sweet romance, love of family, loyalty of friends and a cute hedgehog called Sir Lancelot.

Though this book was a good resolution to the series I felt that the sex scenes were almost filler because there wasn’t enough plot to fill a full sized book. Whilst I have no complaints about the quality of the writing, I felt that it wasn’t actually necessary to the plot and kind of spoiled it a bit for me because it felt excessive. For some people this will never be a complaint but I like great plot with my smut and though there was lots of the former in the first two books the latter was the focus for this book. I’m glad this book wasn’t the only example of this author’s work I’ve read because it might have put me off reading more, except when I was in the right mood 😉

Overall this was a good series and I’ll definitely be continuing to read this author’s work.

Third and last book in this contemporary RH series. We see all the pieces coming together and everything Rogue and her guys have worked towards falling into place. Satisfying conclusion, but would have loved to see Romano join the harem or at least get some satisfying closing remarks. As this is where Rogue was working towards her whole life, I also expected a bit more talk about what happens after the final domino drops. Top of the food chain, taking matters into your own hand and having lived a violent life, just settling for housewife doesn't seem likely...

I really enjoyed this series. The h is a badass and resilience to rival anyone. Her men are supportive without being overbearing and have her back no matter what. Each man is very distinct and have personalities what individually meld perfectly with the h, but solo, makes it completely understandable the h would have needed more if this was a traditional type of relationship. That also goes to say the same thing with the guys and their friendships together or in certain cases their less than platonic relationships.

It’s rare to read a RH with a “strong woman” that doesn’t second guess everything with heaps of chapters of inner monologue. She is who she is and is unapologetic throughout, which is why I think her men love her so much.

I’m glad I can upon this series and loved the non-action parts just as much as the chaos that happens at times. I’m picky when highly rating books, so it made me happy I was able to do that with this series.

Granted, some if not a majority of the content of these books can be triggering for some and not in the taste of others… but I’m a low-key degenerate who loves this kind of out of the box trope.

PS: If you are reading this review and know of/read books that have this kind of vibe, PLEASE let me know!! I need more of these types of books that are artfully written and play around with “abnormal” relationships in my life. Thanks in advance! ❤️

Mila, this final book is the perfect conclusion to an amazing debut series. It delivered everything I needed and more. This book will make you feel everything from the highest highs full of laughs to the torturous agony that pulls tears from your eyes. The action, and retribution make my heart sing, the steam is the cherry on the top and seriously hot.

Rogue is an amazingly flawed fmc, who has shown so much growth over the series and its made her one of my all time favourites.

Noah, Han, Jacob, and Lucas are without a doubt the team you want in your corner. I have loved their growth and drive to become the best versions of themselves. I love how each of the guys is so rounded Lucas and his humour is just executed perfectly.

This book, no this series is nothing short of a masterpiece and its left me with a serious hangover. The evelolution of the plot and characters will keep you glued to the edge of your seat, it's full of twists and turns you don't see coming that will grip your emotional core. This series is a must read.

There could not be a more perfect ending to this series. The characters got everything they deserved but you are going to FEEL your FEELINGS and question everything along the way. The action was high, the emotions were higher, the spice made me tingle and the tears were real.

The entire series was a five-star read and I know I'll be returning to this world many times over. I don't trust that I picked up all the perfectly placed details and hints on the first go-through, and I could never be bored while reading about Noah, Jacob, Lucas, Han, and Rogue. Mila has done an incredible job with this masterpiece and I'm in awe of the intricate criminal world we've glimpsed. Now I'm hoping for some spinoffs because there are a FEW characters I need to see again. I'm not emotionally prepared to say goodbye to these characters forever.

Bloody fantastic book! I loved this trilogy and I especially loved this book and ending! The book was a “pedal to the floorboard” the whole time. Incredibly detailed, action packed, suspenseful, and so many mind games and tricks! What a ride it has been. Rogue was amazing FMC. Such a badass, intelligent, caring, dangerous, and a queen. I really enjoyed reading her character and her journey.

I loved her men and how supportive, possessive, and loving towards Rogue.

What I loved is how Rogue kicked ass and took her life, future, and freedom into her hands. It was awesome!

Harem: Noah, Lucas, Jacob, and Han

Sexiness: 5 out 5; contains MM and MFMM 🔥

I recommend this trilogy!

This review is of my own opinion.

All the pieces in Rogue's puzzle finally started falling together, but Mila, being the skilled author she is, doesn't make it all that easy.
This series finally was EVERYTHING I hoped for and more! Once again, Mila makes it so difficult to leave a review without dropping a whole bunch of spoilers hahaha. But this book has heaps of steam, action, plot twists (Oh, those twists are everything)
Do yourself a favor and get started with this incredible series.

REVIEW:

A decent ending to the trilogy.

As a whole this trilogy had a good overarching plot. Taking down the gang and the corrupt company they've all gotten wrapped up in proved to be an interesting and sometimes-suspenseful plot.

I will say that some of the plot was a little too easy and predictable. Especially taking out King, which I figured would be the most challenging part of their plan, proved to be the easiest and least anticlimactic. That was disappointing, however they went on to take out more than just King and that made up a bit for lost time. And the events at the party were a good surprise.

I totally called it with Romano working with the feds. But I gotta say I kind of missed his presence once they were divorced. :( I just really liked him. So I'm hoping he will get a book at some point. Perhaps Claudette, Shade/Reese, G, Fabio, and Romano? Mmm. Wouldn't mind that combo. ;)

As a RH they were all very sweet. They all quickly got on board with everything. Even Noah, who was hesitant about group activities at first, got on board with things quickly. And they had a good overall dynamic.

The steam in this was just a little bland though. I like the things they do, but the descriptions are kind of boring and the scenes progress and are over way too quickly. It's just meh. Which is disappointing, but they aren't awful or cheesy. Just a bit lacking for me.

Still, I did like all the characters and the RH had a good dynamic. So it wasn't all bad.

Overall it was an okay RH trilogy. Decent overarching plot with likable characters and a good RH dynamic. Not the steamiest and a little predictable. But still a pretty fun read.

This series as a whole was one of the worst i’ve ever read. EVER. I skimmed through most of it and it was still painful. The guys were the most useless people ever. They literally never left the headquarters and didn’t do anything helpful. Nothing they did was helpful to Roque. I’m all here for a girl boss but like this was just sad. The boys were also emotionally stunted. Why throughout the whole series were there never any arguments?? This was a new relationship and no one was ever not on the same page. I didn’t see the guys angry ONE TIME. The only guy we saw even sad was Lucas and that was a case of tell and not show. We were told he was “sad” and “angry” but that was never really reflected in his actions. I say the biggest problem with this book was the conflict. I had no clue who the villain was for the majority of the series. It was supposed to be King but he never actually did anything bad. We kept being told he was an awful guy BUT WHAT DID HE ACTUALLY DO??? In the present all we saw was him being sad and not menacing at all. She talked about some of the last stuff he’s done but we never actually saw him do anything terrible. The main villain of book three was Cross, a man we aren’t actually introduced to until halfway through the book. This guy was also useless. He was defeated so easily and once again we never really saw him do anything bad. Even the “mercenaries” sent to the headquarters were defeated in like 5 minutes. Everything came so easily in this book and the author had a serious case of tell and not show. If I could rate this 0 stars I would. This was TERRIBLE.

I DNFed. Sorry 😬
Since I dnfed this book, I won’t be giving it a star rating. Just know that i got too frustrated and stopped reading at chapter 8. Why you might ask?

Oh, because the person we’ve spent the entire series waiting to see Rogue seek her vengeance on… dies in chapter seven. AND SHES NOT EVEN THE ONE TO KILL HIM.

I’m sorry. Really, I truly understand the author was trying to give him a character arc that would allow the reader to sympathize with him, but i didn’t want that. 🤣 I have no need to sympathize with King, I literally just wanted Rogue to go all bad ass on him. She took away Rogues vengeance & my vengeance! I’m pissed 🤣

Romano (or whatever the heck is name is) is the one to finally put an end to King. After we read two entire books and seven chapters worth of this one waiting for Rogue to be the one to do it. Like come on. Seriously I don’t understand how this was an even remotely OKAY idea, let alone one that actually got included into the book. Yeah he kills him in a pretty gruesome way but it is in NO WAY satisfying because Rogue wasn’t the one to do it! This man took her from her grief of her parents, kidnapped her and her sister under the ruse of being “family”, separated her from her sister & refused to disclose information about her, tortured and abused her for her ENTIRE LIFE after the age of seven, forced her into working for him, forced her into marriage, and forced her into taking over the company. WHY THE HECK ARENT WE GIVEN THAT CLOSURE OF HIS DEATH BY HER HANDS.

ALSO HE WANTED TO DIE! TAKES AWAY THE SATISFACTION EVEN MORE. SO FUCKING STUPID JDJDJFKSKSLSS

I’m sorry but this was just dumb. And i can’t continue what’s left of the book because i’m too frustrated🤣 Also literally what else is there that we would need to read the rest of the book for. The whole series was about killing king and it happened in chapter seven. I don’t care about the rest because the author purposely made his death the main point.

Whatever i’m done and moving on 🤦🏻‍♀️
If you wanna read a book that is actually satisfying and allows the main character to get her sweet sweet revenge (whilst also being sexy & the main character has more than one love interest) Read the Maura Quinn series by Ashley N. Rostek. It won’t disappoint I promise 🖤

3.5 Star

The overall of the series was actually pretty good, I enjoyed it. This was a nice final To the series especially how it ended we got the happily ever after, in their own way.
I will say I was wrong about the relationship between King and Rogue. King is not her biological father we find that out officially in this book, but he wanted to be. He wanted to adopt her from the very beginning but her mom was not having it. Him having seizures and early onset Alzheimer's was a bit of a let down of the story. Especially when it came to his ending. I am glad King got what was coming to him. That was a nice little twist that Instead of rogue dealing With him she gave it over to Romano. I really liked Romano's character he was a very interesting person. I kind of wish we had gotten a little more about him though especially what happened with him after the story.
Now 1 thing I don't understand which really never was answered, Cross was Rogue's godfather. It was never explained how he was her godfather and why he was her godfather. All we know was he was directly responsible for her parents passing. And why he ended her parents.

Epic Conclusion

It’s so bittersweet when a series comes to a close for me. I am so invested in these characters and their HEA but I honestly want their story to go On forever because I love them so much. This baby right here does not disappoint in the least it was everything I could ever want and so much more. We pick up right where we left off in book two and we are in for one he!! Of a ride. With the Las Vegas crew being taken out there is a domino effect that trickles down and it affects everyone. Rogue and the guys are phenomenal! The amount of love these guys have for her and her for them is unmatched. Rogue by far is my all time favorite FMC!! The spice the steam the love and devotion to one another is all there and heightened to the tenth power! This series was my first from this author and the way her writing and story telling just flows so effortlessly. You emerge yourself with these characters and their story. You’re along for the roller coast ride and let me tell you don’t want to miss a minute of

What an incredible conclusion to a terrific series!!
Rogue and her men are back at it again in this third and final instalment of the Maven of Mayhem series. Together, they work to take down King, dismantle the Gambit, continue investigating Annex security, and come up with a way to keep Sage safe while also planning to free the other escorts Sage has been working with.
There definitely wasn’t a dull moment in this book! And on top of all the planning, scheming, gore and action, we get a whole lot of steamy scenes with Rogue and her guys!
This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through! It was one thing after another and I could not get enough! Everything came together and wrapped up perfectly!
I absolutely loved this series and definitely recommend it! I’m so excited to hear Mila has more stories planned in this world ‘cause I’m just not ready to leave it behind! I can’t wait for Sage’s story next!

MILA SIN GO TO YOUR ROOM!!!!! The Scars We Bare is the perfect freaking conclusion to The Maven Of Mayhem series! I laughed, I cried, I made my husband question all of his marriage vows when I screamed like a banshee. It was amazing.
Noah, Han, Jacob, and Lucas are still the dream team, and they continue to grow into their best selves. Lucas brings the humor, and Jacob brings the sexy. Okay, they all bring the sexy, but I have a special place in my pants for Jacob.
Rogue is an incredible force, and I want to be like her when I grow up. The evolution of these characters and this story is masterful, and I’m in disbelief that it’s all over. You need to read this book immediately, but be prepared for twists and turns like none other. My heart stops beating just thinking about it again now. I’m going to miss this world that Mila has created, but thank goodness for rereads. Beautifully done, Mila!

The amount of times I sat there and stared at the words in this book beat out all others. How did she come up with those twists? How did she make me feel so much in such a short amount of time? (Okay, fine it is the longest book but still).

I don't know how she does it, but Mila is extraordinary when it comes to writing. I cried, I stared in disbelief, I threw my phone, I sent her many messages with gasps and "HOW DARE YOU"'s galore. She has been properly reprimanded, but I wouldn't change a thing about this book or the characters.

They all came together perfectly and everything felt real, and I could easily connect.

I am sad we are leaving this series behind but excited for her future endeavors, and I think I speak for everyone when I say "we demand spinoffs".

Love you, Mila! And I can't wait to read everything else you write. 💚

But why is it over?!

I absolutely hate that this is over. I loved every moment of the sneaky sneaks, sweet interactions, and spillings of blood throughout this entire series.

I had my fingers crossed for keeping Romano but hopefully he's got some appearances in another series in the future. That man needs a happy ending. Third marriage be the charm and all.

Hmm..now what can I say without saying it all....
There's group..."activities", m/m scenes(?), sneaky sneaks plotting, murder and a hedgehog. New friends are made, enemies ended, future plans made and all that jazz.

I'm happy for the characters ending and disappointed there isn't more for me to read. There was a promise at the end that we'll be able to see them again in crossovers though so excuse me while I pout until then.
