The cover is misleading, "aunt Elf" never did return in the pages of this volume. Still, it is as good as ever, always a funny read; isekai adventures balanced with a former coma victim adjusting to real life after waking from 17 years in a vegetative state.
Just as a warning from time to time the Uncle from Another World series is a dark comedy not only dealing with moments of oblivious love but also occasionally abuse and other moments of violence so more sensitive readers might find it objectable.
With Uncle telling the story about how he meets Alicia and her two friends after they have been given hero status (mostly thanks to Uncle doing the work and not wanting to deal with the reward) we get to see them work toward a quest that would normally be beyond their skills making Uncle realize he needs to explain to the ones that gave them the status that they are not really ready. What he finds is an old ally now gainfully employed by the capital, a night conflicted with morals versus duty, and a convenient scapegoat in the head of church.
Other things we see in this volume include boys night as reptiles, when CD readers need repairs, the dangerous nature of looking for help from spirits, why Uncle's memory viewing spell would be a bad idea for YouTube, sudden worry leading to belly inspections, and a short with all sorts of information about the wonders of the Sega Mega-drive Mini system. Sega fans unite!
I came across this series by way of the recent anime on Netflix. Having watched the few episodes available I had to find out how the story developed, and found the Manga online.
The amusing story of a man who has been living in a fantasy world for 17 years adjusting to life in the regular world, interspersed with recollections of his adventures in that world. Lots of fun.
